Yohoho and a bottle of Rep! (subSPUF Skull and Shackles)

Game Master Rynjin

Arrrrrrr, walk the plank, scallywag and all that. This be pirates and so do ye be.

Impositions:

Disgraceful Impositions:

Yes, Sir!: For the next hour, the PCs’ crew completes any mundane tasks they’re assigned in half the expected time. This typically relates to Craft and Profession (sailor) checks made to prepare, maintain, or repair the ship, and cannot be applied to combat or more complex deeds like crafting magic items. Costs 2 Disrepute.

Captain’s Orders!: As a standard action, a PC on board her ship can cast fog cloud, heroism, make whole, quench, or whispering wind with a caster level equal to her character level. Costs 5 Disrepute.

Walk the Plank!: The PCs may sacrifice one crew member or prisoner to grant themselves and their crew one of two bonuses: either a +2 bonus on all skill checks or a +2 bonus on attack rolls. These bonuses only apply while on board the PCs’ ship and last until either the next day or when the captain leaves the ship. If a sacrificed character is returned to life, the PCs and their crew members take a –2 penalty on both skill checks and attack rolls for 1 day. Costs 5 Disrepute.

Get Up, You Dogs!: Every PC and allied character on the deck of the PCs’ ship is affected as per the spell cure light wounds, as if cast by a cleric of the PCs’ average party level. This imposition can only be used once per week. Costs 10 Disrepute.

Despicable Impositions:

5: Lashings!: Your ship's speed doubles for 1 day.

5: Shiver Me Timbers!: While on board their ship, the PCs and their entire crew can reroll initiative or roll initiative in what would otherwise be a surprise round. The benefit of this imposition can be used immediately, but only once per week.

10: Besmara’s Blessings!: As a standard action, a PC on board her ship can cast animate rope, control water, remove curse, remove disease, or water breathing with a caster level equal to her character level.

10: Dead Men Tell No Tales!: While on board their ship, the PCs can use this imposition to automatically confirm a threatened critical hit.

"So this has to do with the disappearance of Kellet." he mulls this over for a moment.

"The Admiral should probably hear about this, yes. Follow me."

He leads you to Arronax's audience chamber.

"Sir, these men are here to see you. They found something strange in Roweena Kellet's possession. A Chalaxian ledger, with your name on it, among others."

Arronax strokes his short cropped beard.

"Explain your suspicions. Leave out no details."

I have no problem doing the talking here, but I could really use some help summarizing everything that's been going on with this story. I am still feeling like I'm catching up from the middle of it all, and I don't really have time right now to dig through the last 15 or so pages to try to parse it all together.

If anyone wants to give me some cliff notes, I can try and go from there.

Male Orc Bloodrager (Primalist) 9 | Dead, essentially.

Don't feel bad, I've had trouble keeping track of this string of fetch quests since it started!

Shortly after we joined the Free Captains, we were invited to dinner by Tessa Fairwind, one of the most powerful lords on the Pirate Council. She heard rumors that the Chelish Empire is plotting to annex the Shackles, and has asked us to investigate. In exchange, we will gain a powerful ally in her, and she has also offered some additional...ahem..."benefits" to yours truly.

Anyway, she gave us two possible sources of information for our investigation: Calistria's Temple of Stolen Kisses in Quent, and Norgorber's Temple of the Hidden Name on Bag Island. We went to the Calistrian temple first. In exchange for what they knew about the Chelish attacks, the high priestess asked us to recover a sacred relic of theirs called the Golden Vespal, which had been stolen by wreckers.

We decided to see if the Temple of the Hidden Name could give us a more specific target than "some wreckers". In exchange for telling them the secret location of a long lost pirate captain's treasure (a story for another day), they gave us the name and location of Vakarla, the captain of the wreckers who had stolen the Vespal.

But for their knowledge about the Chelaxian spies, they wanted something a little more substantial. Specifically, they wanted us to find out what happened to a legendary ship called the Brine Banshee, and come back with either the ship itself, or the secret to its amazing speed and maneuverability.

And, small world, the Calistrian high priestess was able to point us to a guy named Haneilius Fitch who could help us locate the Banshee. Fitch was willing to help, but in order to track the ship he needed us to get a Ring of the Iron Skull from a pirate captain called Morton. We ambushed him when he came to port, wrecked him and his magical goons, and took the ring. Using the ring and a bone that had belonged to one of the Banshee's crew members, Fitch was able to pinpoint the ship's location...which turned out to be a ways underwater.

Once we found the ship, we went down to investigate it. On the ship itself, after killing some monsters, we found Jalhazar's Wheel, the source of the Banshee's magic. Upon returning to our ship, we found a peculiar psychic bug-creature waiting for us...this is where you came in.

You know, now that I see all this written down I'm starting to wonder if I should be asking for more from Tessa...

Odan bows, respectfully.

As you command, Lord Arronax.

Odan straightens up, and then begins his oratory:

This all started some months ago, as we were under suspicion that the Chelaxian Navy may seize the Shackles. For what purpose, we do not know, but we embarked upon a quest to uncover the truth. This rumor first came to my dear Captin Jhrak at a dinner party held by the Lord Captain Tessa Fairwind.

We sailed out to investigate, following two potential leads - temple in Quent and a temple on Bag Island. Both seemed to have some knowledge of the Chelaxian Navy, but refused to offer said information without due favors. We completed the favors and acquired a name. One Jaymiss Creft, a scrimshander and rumor monger out of Drenchport. He claimed to have heard of Chelaxian spies.

So we took to the seas to give him a visit - which I must mention was well worth it for this nice little ivory carving by itself.

Mister Creft gave us the name of a Haddon Pike - a local fisherman and smuggler who never seemed to work with any actual fish or smuggle any actual goods. Prime suspect, yes?

It was trivial to locate his home, and him inside it, dead. His face chewed off by piranhas in a fish tank. Someone was trying to make his face unrecognizable. A thorough searching of the premises uncovered a written opera with an embedded secret code.

This secret code was from Roweena, and instructed him to keep an eye out for ships owned by the Master of Gales in Drenchport. Roweena wrote that she would be in Hell Harbor for the next few weeks if he needed to find her.

So we came here to speak with her, and we found her missing. Talk around town is that she's an ex-naval officer for Cheliax, and she's disappeared. We uncovered her address and found the locale ransacked. Amongst the debris was this ledger. Whoever ransacked the place was either incompetent or was trying to make the place looked thrashed without actually destroying anything important.

This ledger lists all the pirate lords in the shackles, with a gold amount next to each one - except for yours, where it simply lists a dash. I suspect your dislike of Cheliax has something to do with that. Perhaps they cannot bribe you or make a deal with you like they may be able to with the other Lords. I say this, because the ledger suggests that every other pirate lord has either been bought off by Cheliax or whoever wrote this ledger to side with them - or they have bought off their men to mutiny at opportune moments.

And this is why we have come to speak with you.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

"You're close. That dash doesn't mean they don't think they can bribe me, it means they refuse to try. They will accept nothing less than my capture and execution."

"So, what exactly is it you want my help with?"

Odan pauses for a moment, as if in thought.

Tk. We wanted several things with you. First and foremost, we wanted to know if you had insight behind any of this. Equally important, though, was that if you did not have any insight or knowledge on this matter, we wished to warn you.

We had hopes that in providing you with this potentially valuable information, you could either assist us or guide us in our endevours. We wished to know who or what this threat is, who is behind it, and how to stop it to keep the Shackles free.

We wished to know if you have any information pertaining to Roweena and her associates so we may follow that lead - or better yet a more significant lead.

And finally, we wished to show you (if the time ever comes) - that we, the Captain Jrahk and his crew of the Devil's Pallor - are folk with whom you may place trust.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

"I'd need time to investigate. I wasn't aware Roweena was a spy, but their existence isn't surprising. Cheliax has wanted control of the Shackles trade routes for a long while now. It's the main reason they're so hardline on pirates in the first place."

"I can look into the matter and send you and Tessa my findings if you wish, though those efforts may be redundant with your own. I won't overlook that you brought this to me of your own volition, however. Initiative and loyalty are two virtues I value highly."

In simple terms: He owes you one.

Odan is going to try to discretely ask about chelaxian spies or assassins or just naval members in the city.

The first roll is diplomacy to gather information, the second roll is either stealth +6 or Bluff +3 to try to keep it under wraps.

diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

And he'll pay out silver coins to keep people's mouths shut. If he absolutely has to, he'll even pay out gold.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

As you might expect, the average citizen knows nothing about this. Some mention Roweena being suspicious, but you knew that already.

There are limits to Gather Info. Since you rolled high, I eliminated the potential "All you get is rumors and gossip" consequence. Gather Information is just asking people on the street for 1d4 hours and hoping you hear about something useful, so secret knowledge is not available.

Male Orc Bloodrager (Primalist) 9 | Dead, essentially.

Fiiiiine. Let's go to Drenchport.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

You go back to talk to the scrimshaw expert about the scrimshaw, and he tells you he recognizes the guy: The Tengu is a guy named Corlan.

...Who lives in Hell Harbor.

This is what you get for skipping clues. =p

Actually, a lot of the Tian Xia races like Kitsune, Nagaji, and Tengu are relatively common in the Shackles. Most major ports have at least a small enclave for each. They're not COMMON by any means, less than 1% of the population each, but you see them around.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

You're probably going to be pissed in a second.

"Haddon? I wo-" Corlan manages, before a shot rings out.

Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Damage: 1d10 + 17 + 3d6 ⇒ (4) + 17 + (3, 4, 3) = 31

Corlan Fort(s): 2d20 ⇒ (17, 9) = 26

A bullet rips a MASSIVE hole in Corlan's chest, the shot nailing him directly in the heart. He drops dead instantly.

You spin around and see a blond man looking down the sight of a musket at Corlan from a rooftop 80 feet away. For good measure, he cracks off another shot from the second barrel.

1d20 ⇒ 6

Nailing Corlan's corpse in the forehead, and assuring the man that the Tengu is, indeed, quite dead.

The guy, except with a musket instead of a crossbow.

4d20 ⇒ (2, 20, 17, 9) = 48

Jrahk (20)

Giles does not even try to fight you. He Runs, quite swiftly.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24

He moves 40 feet to the opposite side of the roof, and does a backflip off of it. You hear the sound of rope sliding through gloved hands, then feet hitting the street below, and pattering away.

He looked to have about a 60 foot move speed, likely due to a potion of Expeditious Retreat. Jrahk and Ace get no AoO, as they are still Flatfooted. He was wearing light armor, so he could move a total of 240 feet. The rope climbing slowed him down a midge, but he's probably lost in the crowd already.
