Katia Shelensdottir |
Katia kneels near the northward tunnel. "There are faint prints here. But I can't say what did them. Shall we go that way?"
Katia Shelensdottir |
"I am thankful we have a tracker with us. Survival in foreign lands is difficult enough. Perhaps there is a path that will lead us to the surface or fresh water. We can only live 3 days without it. Please guide us Katia to wherever you think is best."
"Water will not be an issue as long as my Lady listen to my prayers. I can create some as needed", replies Katia while waiting for the rest of the group opinion about the group's next steps.
Katia Shelensdottir |
"Let's go then", says Katia entering the northern tunnel cautiously.
Katia explores slowly, relying on her darkvision and on her stealth, not forgetting to check the roof of the tunnel for possible critters hiding there.

lol no one's moved their tokens yet? Shall we switch to 2nd Ed descriptive map and imagination? I can do that as well.

Sorry, I did not realize we could move them. Will do it at once.:)
Zakon Hellborn |
Zakon follows closely behind Katia and assists her survival without any formal training. What am I looking for? Not sure, but don't look like a fool. Moss grows north or south? I should spent more time outdoors chasing frogs instead of playing with wooden swords.

As the leading scouts move forward, they come across an even smaller cavern from where they come from.
This smaller cavern appears to have once served as a campsite or temporary lair. A torn bedroll lies next to the cold remains of a fire. A pile of bones, broken equipment, and rubble lies just past the campsite.
Katia Shelensdottir |
Katia moves into the room, checking if the rubble contains anything usable and the origin of the bones.

Both Garret and Katia spot it at the same time a pair of feelers beneath all the rubble and another opposite it. They're rather long and seems to belong to some kind of giant vermin. They do not seem to have noticed you yet.
Katia Shelensdottir |
"Shall we try to take it down? I don't really want to leave something like that behind us. And I don't thing the others can move past it without it noticing.", replies Katia, readying her bow.
nightdeath |
Zakon discovers the feelers seem to belong to a pair of slumbering cockroaches, he size of large dogs, but one is awake with its feelers twitching quickly while Garrett detects no sign of evil.
nightdeath |
Swift blows end a battle that never started as Zakon and Garrett cleaves into the helpless vermin.
Searching around the campsite, you find:
A torn bedroll
Three candle stubs (each can burn for 30 minutes)
A bent fishhook
10 feet of badly frayed hemp rope
A copper brooch depicting a bat perched on a mushroom— both of the bat’s eyes are tiny amethysts
Your appraisal reveals its worth to be around 200 gp.
Horgus remarks that he has never seen such workmanship or design before.
Katia Shelensdottir |
Appraise: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Looking at the brooch and the camp remains, Katia smiles "That means there are people living around here. Anyone has heard anything about that? I mean, we are just under the city or what remains of it...", she finishes with a darker tone, remembering the fight that precipitated them here.
"We should not delay, now. Because whoever was living there is gone or dead."
Katia Shelensdottir |
Katia moves alongside Zakon, concentrating so much on potential tracks that she bumps into some of the rocks on the uneven ground.

Garrett Carr |
Garrett will move forward with the others as stealthily as he can
perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
stealth: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0
apparently he didn't notice Katia stumbling over some rocks and stumbled over her!
"Um, sorry. Maybe I should hang back a bit and cover your advance?"
nightdeath |
Several mounds of rock lie in heaps in this cavern, recently fallen from the walls and ceiling. Now and then, bits of dust settle from cracks in the stone above.
This cave may look unstable, but it weathered the disasters above quite well and is in no real danger of collapse.
There is however a palescaled cave viper that has been dislodged from its nest and now lies coiled up and cranky amid the stones. The snake is slightly wounded, which makes it particularly quick to attack any perceived threat. It's now in attack mode, hissing furiously as your approach alerts it.
Katia Shelensdottir |
Not waisting a moment, Katia levels her bow at the hissing snake and fires an arrow before it comes too close.

bow attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19, damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

lol that was fast. Good Shot Katia.
Katia's quick shot strikes the snake just below its head pinning it to the rock. It's dying throes twitching its tail about wildly as it finally expires after the shock has gone through its mind.
The route though difficult passes by with no further attacks from anything else. The winding route seems to go on for about 1,900 feet before the party reaches a junction
To the north, a 5-footwide opening in the wall leads into a cave filled with soft but nasty-looking green light—the tunnel itself continues south beyond this toward area.
Exiting the tunnel, you find a single sizable 20-foot-tall building remains in the center of this 30-foot-high cave, a bunkerlike structure with no windows and walls of worked stone blocks. A 10-foot-long carving of a hammer decorates the building’s facade. The ruins of collapsed outbuildings stand to either side.
The symbol on the building as that of Torag.
The old stone door leading into the building is stuck, requiring a successful DC 15 Strength check to force open.
It's still well made despite its years but something is wedged inbetween its hinges
Katia Shelensdottir |
Don't want to derail the game, but Katia was still planning to explore area A3 after area A4. I haven't stated it properly so I'm fine with going forwards if there's nothing important there but would hate missing a major clue if there's one in.
Kn religion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

"If I'm not wrong, this is an old temple of Torag. sounds about right with it being undergroung and it says there used to be good people around here. There may be informations about the surrounding tunnel inside. I propose we try to get in."
nightdeath |
Noted. I have setup Map 2 and left Map 1 for further exploration. There's still an item in A3.
Lethander Grey |
Lethander had been quiet along the way, his mind entirely focused on the scales and what -and who- they represented and on the events that happened and were no doubt still going on above ground.
Getting them to safety, he thought, as if above ground is any safer than here. More than likely it will be a hundred times worse.
He was unimpressed with the bugs and the snake they'd encounter and it was obvious the others were more than capable enough to take care of it without him exhausting his magic. But finding the remains of a campsite and now an old temple shook him out of his thoughts and he focused back on the present. There were people here -or at least creatures that made campsites, so not just vermin- and if they worshiped Torag, it'd be very unlikely they were allied with the demons. Perhaps another sign that below ground was safer than above for now.
"Worshippers of Torag would likely oppose demons. Should we come across them, we should try to avoid appearing hostile. Perhaps they can lend assistance."
Lethander followed Zakon and Katia leaving a small distance between them so as not to spoil his attempts at stealth.

A3
A stone ledge juts out at a right angle on the south wall of this cavern, fourteen feet off the ground. The leather strap of a backpack hangs from the edge of the ledge, while above, a narrow fissure yawns up into the dark.
The pack itself is a well made with a symbol of Iomedae proudly worked into the Masterworked Backpack.
10 days of trail rations
a flint and steel
a set of caltrops
two flasks of oil
12 arrows
potion of cure light wounds (Labelled)
potion of lesser restoration (Labelled)
Katia Shelensdottir |
"I think I can do that.", says Katia, removing her armor to free her movements and opening her backpack to retrieve an arrow fitted with a small grappling hook.
Bow to attack the grappling hook to the ledge: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Is that enough to secure the hook to the ledge?

Yes it is enough.
Katia Shelensdottir |
Bracing her feet against the wall and using the rope to climb, Katia tries to ascend up to the ledge.

Katia successfully climbs the wall and retrieves the pack and its items.
Lethander Grey |
"Well done! Hm, another cache?", Lethander remarked, "so obviously these caves are travelled. I suppose that's good news, indicating a high chance of an exit somewhere not too far away... Unless of course it's on the other side of the cave in."
Katia Shelensdottir |
On the way back to the temple, while looking at the bag contents, Katia replies to Lethander. "This bag may have been stored here or it just fell at the same time as we did. it's difficult to say with the dust. At least, the rations seems edible. That can help us in the long way."
