Sioned Houj |
Seeing the guard withdraw into the next room, Caliban says, "Caleb, grab the door, Kloss, can you bring him down with your bow? Sioned, you and I will rush in after Kloss has softened him up! Suryani, can you follow Caleb in?"
"Good idea, we don't want the guard warning anyone."
Kloss |
Kloss switches from axe to bow, and only listening half to what Caliban has to say, rushes after the guard until he has a clear shot.
DM Le Roy Batty |
I've completely lost where we are in this complex. It is possible to get a recap?
Yeah, np! :)
You are in the basement level of this complex, having just come down a rope into this room. There are 2 battlements across this room, slowing down all straight movement, but everyone is on the eastern side of the battlements. The only door is to the east, which the guard just ran back through. You can see a large stone table inside the next room. We can go over the ground floor rooms again when you guys go back there.
DM Le Roy Batty |
Kloss enters the room to find the mongrelman rushing to a closed door on the north side. He is banging starting to bang at it. Suryani peaks her head in the room as well and sees this, while Caleb retrieves his sword.
The mongrelman is still speaking a language no one recognizes.
Inside this long, natural cavern, three copper bowls filled with glowing coals hang from the ceiling. The braziers fill the chamber with warmth and soft orange light. In the center of the chamber stands a block of stone that serves as a table, lined with wooden chairs. An enormous bloodstain, maybe a week old, darkens the stone’s surface.
There is an exit to the north where the mongrelman is banging away and another to the south.
Caliban Tre'Athkar |
Caliban, lacking a ranged weapon, begins to cross the room while casting a Ray of Frost at the mongrelman.
Ray of frost (Ranged touch): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Ray of Frost Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Kloss |
Attack (AC5?): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Kloss fires an arrow at the door in front of the Mongrelman, then adds bluntly: I'm willing to let you surrender, but I'm not in the mood to repeat myself.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Caleb D'natin |
Talking to the cleric, Whatever comes through that door might be much worse than what we have fought so far. We are pretty beat up. Can Sarenrae lend her healing to help ensure that evil die and good endure?
DM Le Roy Batty |
Kloss fires and arrow at the door while Caliban whizzes a ray of frost over the shoulder of the mongrelmen guard. He turns to leer and growl at the group.
Across the room from the other side of the table, two humanoid forms enter through an open door. One is a Tiefling - male, bright red, with rams horns, a forked tail and two knives - and the other is a female in a long chain shirt wielding a glaive.
She screams, furious, Guards, Kill the intruders!

Kloss may act first. The guard at the door to the north is 20 ft away. the tiefling is protecting his master at the other doorway, also 20ft away in the opposite direction to the south.
Caliban Tre'Athkar |
Provided nothing changes too much when the enemies go. If he's threatened directly I'll change this to be more focused on who is on him.
Caliban will turn to face the new combatants, focusing his magical energies and firing a coruscating ray of energy at the human woman.
If he can line up multiple targets with the spell who are not his allies he will attempt to do so
Ray of Enfeeblement (touch): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Strength damage fort save for 1/2 (DC 14): 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Edit:
Can spells like this crit?
Kloss |
Yes, touch attacks from spells can crit on a 20 for double damage.
Grr... what? Kloss howls in frustration at more enemies appearing. He re-aims his bow at the female, and shoots without hesitation.

Kloss shoots his bow at the armored woman, but it veers away from her at the last second and hits the wall behind them.
The woman calls out, "By Baphomet's blessing, you will not escape this place with your lives!" she removes a wand from her belt and casts a spell. A translucent glaive appears from the tip of the wand and flies over to attack Kloss...
Glaive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
dmg: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 Kloss [-15 HP]
... slicing a deep gash across his arm.
Meanwhile the last mongrelman guard charges Caliban...
MM guard: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
... but misses terribly and bounces off the nearby wall.
The Tiefling stands his ground and readies a dagger for when Caliban casts his spell, he sends it flying...
Tiefling dagger: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
.. but misses interrupting the Elf's spell. His ray fires off without problems and weakens both enemies quite severely.

Ok, NOW I'm badly hit, at 7/22
Not sure what is going on: was that glaive just a missile attack, or do I have some kind of dancing weapon in front of me?
Caliban Tre'Athkar |
Thanks! I wasn't sure I've seen different DMs do it differently.
Suryani Chaitanya |
It's probably the spiritual weapon spell, sort of like a dancing weapon. Dibs on that wand!
Suryani glances into the room, her eyes wide with fear. Taking a deep breath, she gathers her courage, and steps into the door opening, brandishing her holy symbol. "Your cow god pales in comparison to the power of the Everlight," she calls out, with a slightly wavering voice.
Channel energy: 1d6 ⇒ 4
I can deselect up to two hostile targets.
Caleb D'natin |
Feeling better from the heal and seeing the magus being threatned by the foe, the paladin charges the one in melee with the elf. See if you can take out the caster, Caliban. Leave this one to me he says as he charges past, his bastard sword and shield at the read.
1d20 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 2 + 5 = 20
1d10 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Sioned Houj |
Perhaps we should have been more careful in our room searching.
Opting to take out the seemingly easier enemy out first, Sioned goes to flank and attack the guard who just charged Caliban.
Flail attack: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 2 = 20
Flail damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Caliban Tre'Athkar |
I'd deselect the Guard and the mongrelman, since they are the only ones with physical damage?
Kloss |
Kloss steps back, out range of the glaive, and shoots another arrow at the spell caster

Caliban cast a ray of enfeeblement at the Tiefling and the human, after ducking a knife thrown at him. They..

Human Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 [Human -3 STR]
... wince as the strength is drained from them.
Suryani heals the party, while Sioned and Caleb charge and flank the mongrelman on the left. The land two hits in quick succession, but there is no escape for him now. [MM -10HP]
Kloss steps back away from the force weapon, but his shot flies wide of the caster.
The Guard takes a swing at the charging paladin with his battered sword, sensing an opening...
Guard attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
dmg: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 [Caleb -13HP]
.. and slices the paladin outstretched arm.
The Tiefling removes a bottle from his belt and throws it at Caliban..
Tiefling throw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 3 [Caliban -3HP]
.. it bursts into flames on the magus' clothes, setting them aflame. Caliban may take a full round action to extinguish this flame Reflex DC 15.
The Human woman casts another spell from her wand, and translucent glaive appears in front of Suryani as well. She directs the magical weapons and laughs: "Dance! Dance for Baphomet, and he may judge you worthy!"

Might as well use that rapid shot feat some day...
Suryani Chaitanya |
"Someone knock that girl out," Suryani calls as she backs away from the glaive. She then casts a spell, hoping to douse the flames on Caleb.
Create water on Caleb, hoping that 4 gallons is enough to put out the flames, or at least give him a circumstance bonus to put them out himself.
Sioned Houj |
Sioned takes another swing at the wayward guard. The sooner I get him out of the way, the sooner I can get to that cultist.
Flail attack: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 2 = 12
Flail damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Reflex Save (+3): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
DM Le Roy Batty |
DM, please don't forget the -1 from STR damage :)
Oh, I won't. For now it isn't effecting them. (thrown weapon uses dex and the spell uses CL/wisdom)
So is it a reflex save, or a full round action, or both?
Full round action to get a reflex save in order to put it out.

Using the above roll
Caliban extinguishes the flames on his body, with the water drenching him. (Full Round Action)

The mongrelman guard continues to attack the paladin...

miss: 1d8 ⇒ 2
... it splashes off the wall to the front left of Suryani, but she escapes the brunt of the attack. [Suryani -1HP]

Gonna get close enough so that next round he can smite.
