It turns out that making your mark on the world is a lot tougher than one might think. He tried to reach the Worldwound but the journey was quickly cut short when he found out how much it truly cost to get along while on the road. Thus he enlisted in the Lastwall army to earn funds for his journey. He wound up assigned to the cavalry. They taught him self-reliance, teamwork, and horsemanship during his years in the cavalry. He earned enough to afford what he thought he would need in order to make his mark on the world. He was wrong.
While being well armed and armored and even having your own horse is all well and good it does not give you anything in this world other than a hard lesson that you need more in life than battle skills to make it. So it was that he found himself hiring out his services to those traveling along the border of the Hold of Belzkin. This gave him two things, a mostly steady income and an education in things beyond faith and duty.
One of the people to hire him was Professor Petros Lorrimor. I was tasked with protecting the professor on one of his research journeys. Albert had heard tale from others who did this kind of work that Professor Lorrimor’ journeys where always interesting but maybe not always in the way you would expect. Petros Lorrimor took young Albert on a journey of discovery that also led to heartbreak and the acceptance of a yet unpaid debt. The professor left Lepidstat University with Albert in tow for a journey along the border in search of old Orc tribe encampment sites from the time of the Shining Crusade. Albert initially thought this a foolhardy trip but the coin was good so he no sense in turning it down just because he thought it flight of fancy on the professors part.
The trip turned out to be a bit more work than planned unfortunately for young Albert. The professor, it seems, was not necessarily a friend of the nearby Orc tribes. This resulted in a few scrapes with wondering Orcs who seemed to be scavengers or hunters or some other such type of loner. The professor did find what he was searching for in a secluded depression in the mountains. Of course someone had already chosen to occupy the site which met it was up to Albert to force the orc to leave or to kill it if it refused. So Albert moved in and engaged the orc and as could be predicted almost the orc chose to fight. He was a far cagier opponent than any the cavalryman had faced before and Albert, in his haste to end the fight, broke his family given sword stopping what may have been a death blow by the orc. He will never know what it is that the professor did out of my sightline but whatever it was that orc hightailed out of there right after he broke the young man’s sword.
Albert spent part of his time wallowing in self-pity after that. Bemoaning his loss and cursing that orc. The Professor however had other plans. He made a deal with Albert of a favor for a favor. The Professor would have Albert’s family given longsword repaired at no cost to Albert for a favor to be named later. Albert of course immediately accepted the bargain. It was only after the sword was whole once more and the two had parted ways that Albert began to wonder what kind of favor the Professor would ask of him and went would that request come. It knawel on him. Keeping him up some nights with worry and doubt as to his ability to fulfill his part of the bargain. Years past and yet the professor never called on him. So much worry and fret spent during those years and now Albert learned of the Professors passing from a women who claims to be his daughter. Now Albert rides for Ravengro and perhaps to finally fulfill his part of the bargain.
Lemor |
If anyone would be willing to take a look, I've added another section to my character page, which I titled "A Day in the Life". It's Lemor working for the professor, and I'm not confident that my ability to write dialogue is very good, so I'd appreciate any feedback. It's kindof long, but hopefully it's also interesting enough that it doesn't feel long. Hopefully also it gives a good sense of Lemor's voice and how I will write the character, that's what I'm most interested in.
Filiana Longsong |
Dotting in with Filiana. She was created for another CC game here on the Paizo site (the same one that Ladruca was in as it happens). Unfortunately the game fizzled out when RL stuff overtook our DM. We made it to second level but were not as far into Book 1 as this game. I'd love for her to get another crack at it.
Dr. Audubon Cawthorne |
Please see this profile for The Tick in the Barrel's character submission, originally created but not chosen for a prior Carrion Crown recruitment.
Cawthorne would explore themes of self-loathing, identity, racism, and social conformity, all of which I consider staples of the horror genre. Mechanically he is a self-buffing melee combatant with moderate healing abilities and social skills, becoming more tanky as he progresses. My intent is to take self-alteration discoveries and pick up a few Barbarian (Wild Rager) levels - reflecting his self-surgery and the stress of adventuring awakening something long repressed within him - before eventually transitioning into the Master Chymist prestige class.

Jern Adison- Human Oracle with a touch of swashbuckler
Jern is from Vigil in Lastwall, just across the border of Ustalav. His family (originally from Lozeri) moved to Vigil generations ago. Why exactly they moved is shrouded in mystery, but they have been raising horses and farming ever since moving to Vigil.
Jern grew up a farming kid, working the fields, taking care of the animals, doing his chores. He seemed totally normal until his 15th year. It's not uncommon for young men to see an increase in hair growth, but his was a bit extreme, thick, heavy and greyish. It started to become quite embarrassing and that's when the real curse started in: when Jern became frustrated, he lost the ability to speak coherently. His voice changed to growls and whines and whinnies. People can be mean, kids especially, and he was picked on relentlessly by his peers. But it was the older folks who thought something else was going on, that he was cursed and would be a curse on all those around him.
His mother chose to believe her own intuition, that it was a curse, but not a horrible one. Instead this was some sort of tie to the gods. For while humans couldn't understand his frustrated speech, animals seemed to. His parents, however, realized the difficulty this was having on him and decided his best course of action was to go somewhere where he could study these kind of phenomena. They packed him up and sent him to the university at Lepidstadt (where his great grandfather had once taught).
City life was very mysterious to Jern, but it helped that he was able to throw himself into his studies. That is, in fact, where he met Professor Lorrimor.
Lorrimor had long been interested in oracles and how their abilities manifest. Jern became both student, and occasional subject of the professors. Lorrimor also encouraged him to join one of the fencing clubs, knowing that oracles are often misunderstood by others and wanting to keep his young friend safe. Lorrimor sponsored Jern joining the Malkenclaw fraternity where Jern shined, learning how to use his strength to his best advantage in combat.
Jern is devestated to hear of Lorrimor's passing and came as quickly as he could to Ravengro to pay his respects.
ST 15 DX 12 CN 12 Int 14 Wis 9 Cha 16
Fort+1 Ref+5 Will+1 BAB 1
Traits: Teacher's pet (+2 to Kn(Rel)); Dangerously Curious
Human: Heart of the fields (replaces skilled, can ignore fatigue 1/day and bonus to craft/profession)
Feats: Power attack, Extra Revelation
Proficiencies: Lt and Med armor, Simple and Martial Weapons, Shields
Skills: Survival+1(+3), Handle Animal+1(+4), Acrobat+2(+6), Kn(Nat)+1(+6), Percept+2(+4), Heal+2(+4), KN(Rel)+1(+8), Sense Motive+1(+3), Spellcraft+1(+3), Intimidate+1(+7), Ride+1(+5), Bluff+1(+7), UMD+1(+8)
Curse: Lycanthropy (can't speak during combat, can talk to animals)
Revelations: Prophetic armor(+CHA to AC/Reflex), Eye of the moon (darkvision)
Equipment: Chain shirt, Longsword, Morningstar, backpack w/pretty standard stuff
I'll finish the equipment if selected
Basically, the rest of his levels are oracle. He will get an animal companion with his next revelation. He should be reasonably useful (some buffing, some debuffing, some combat, some healing). I'm submitting him like this mostly for flavor. I think the lycanthropy curse and lunar mystery just cry out to be used in a carrion crown campaign.

Thought I'd compile a submission list for ease of reference - apologies to anyone who sneaks one in after this post :) Submissions are listed in order posted, format is: poster main profile - character name/alias - brief character build summary. I've linked character alias profiles where available, otherwise I linked their submission posts.
As I've come to expect from a Carrion Crown recruitment of any kind, competition is similar to the Restlands's residents - stiff. At the very least I've enjoyed reading everyone's submissions (and the tweaks made to those I recognize from recruitments past) - good luck everybody!

Man, now I really wish I could have submitted that spiritualist instead. :(
I believe that GM_Carrioncat meant that he wouldn't consider two character submissions from the same person for selection, not that one couldn't change their submission to a different character. If you'd prefer to play your spiritualist there's probably still time to post her/him up, as there hasn't been an official "recruitment closed" post yet.

If that's so, then I'll get right on formatting an entry for the boards! Thanks again, TTitB!

Actually I lied - PbP is the only format where playing a Deaf character isn't painfully boring/annoying/cumbersome. I'm not going to miss that opportunity.
GM - I would love to play a non-Tian version of the Pei Zin Practitioner Oracle (It essentially gives up 2 revelations for Lay on Hands) of Pharasma. Is that a reskinning you'd be okay with? Additionally, is the Fey Foundling feat cheesy, or acceptable? I'll either take that or Extra Revelation (Channel), depending on your thoughts.

Updated submissions list. I'm about to begin driving for about 8 hours, so it's unlikely I'll be able to update again today/tonight. To any newcomers, I'd try to get your characters up tonight - stated recruitment deadline is around today.
Good luck folks!

Alright, I'm submitting Barakkas instead of Ravimir (hopefully). I still need to pick one feat and some spells for him, but I was nervous that I'd miss the cutoff, so here's everything else.
Barakkas would be a good caster/debuffer and face, and has some good Knowledge skills, with more to come.
Good luck everyone! :)

I have the stats up for my submission, Lin Grimburrow
The adopted ward of Father Grimburrow, Lin was taken in as a special favor for Professor Lorrimer (cue the "Making Good on Promises" trait). She's been sent off for schooling at Lepidstadt, and took to the Arcane arts, though she's managed to incorporate a dash of her staunchly Pharasman upbringing. She's a bookish woman who was orphaned at a young age, and taken in by the Professor during his traveling years.
I'll flesh this out much, much more, I just wanted to make sure I got my name/submission in the hat before things closed up.
EDIT: I absolutely don't have to be Grimburrow's daughter, if that's disruptive to the game. I'll gladly be the adopted daughter of some minor priest, I just assumed that name because it's one that I saw, and because it would stand to reason that Father Grimburrow would be in a position to send her to Lepidstadt for school.

I am also interest in joining, as I only just started playing Pathfinder 1 week ago, and my only character is a level 1 Rogue. I am uncertain of how to move forward from this point beyond the post thread, any advice would be highly appreciate. Hopefully this is a game with proper log following pathfinder society regulation thus allowing transition to other games as per legal official ruling, cause this is the standard that I have been encourage to play since last week. Thx in advance.

This is not a PFS game. This is an AP, basically a home game. Try recruitment threads with scenario numbers in them. Or this, they'll help you find a PFS game.

I have decided on the following two players:
Dr. Audubon Cawthorne: "A corvid's eye devoted to science and civility... a cloak thrown upon a beast's heart."
Filiana Longsong: "A beacon of light and valour, where superstition and prejudice work in tandem to snuff it out."
Go ahead and introduce yourselves in the discussion thread!
