About Barret

Barret was born under some unusual circumstances. However, such things are to be expected so close to the ever expanding Worldwound. Despite showing no signs of illness, his mother died giving birth to him. Some saw this as a sign of demonic presence or something equally sinister. There was much talk of bad omens and the child was seen as a curse. However they did not abandon their own and raised him as any other child. To his credit, he never showed any sign of being something other than a Kellid child. That did not stop them from whispering about the "demon child" though. Most of the children were equally afraid of him and tended to stay away save one. The chieftain's daughter Inka saw his kind heart though through his gruff demeanor and the two were close and could be considered best friends. Like his kin, he showed great prowess in the style of fighting known as Pankration where the use of fists trumped weapon usage. However he took his love for the style just a step above his brothers. Whenever he went hunting, he generally preferred to wrestle his prey into submission before he pulled a weapon to finish it off. To him, there was nothing he could not beat with his bare hands. That is until he and his tribe brothers faced a monster later known as a flesh golem. When he ran up to grab it and hurl it to the ground, it swatted him away, knocking him to the ground. This triggered something in him. Something dark, feral that changed him. He grew fur and sprouted claws as he leapt upon the foul thing. Between his new gifts and his brothers, they took it down.

Unbeknownst to them, a certain professor was traveling by and hid when he saw the creature. He watched the creature's movements with great interest as well as the barbarian's reactions to it as well as Barret's transformation. They clearly had no idea what they were facing. So when they finally slew it, he came out of hiding to congratulate them and to introduce himself as well as tend to some of their wounds. He explained that what they faced was a creature known as a Flesh Golem and what little he knew about it. He explained that he was out here because he had heard of the sightings in this region. The leader of the scouting party thanked him for the information in case they encountered it again and told him that they had to get back to their tribe. However, Barret stayed behind for a few moments as this old man's knowledge intrigued him. He asked him other questions, such as to why a man with his frame would be out in the wilderness alone. Lorrimar explained his profession and his quest for knowledge. "Knowing is half the battle, my young friend. Also, one day you'll have to tell me about how you learned to do that. It's rather nifty." Petros said. With that they parted ways, Barret rejoining his kin while Lorrimar headed back to Ustalov furiously writing in a notebook. The revelations of Barret's power made him a legend in the tribe. He was the most powerful member of the tribe and he turned into the clan's spirit animal even.

Years later, when the dear professor passed, a messenger thought to be a spy was captured by Barret's tribe. He explained who he was searching for and why. Obviously this perplexed the young Kellid man since they had one meeting. But nevertheless it piqued his curiosity. So he told his tribe that he needed to leave, at the very least to honor the man who's knowledge turned out to save some of the tribe's people. Inka was sad to see her childhood friend leave but understood. She made him promise to return once it was over.

Description:

Barret stands tall at a towering 6 feet 6 inches tall. He has dark brown hair and brown eyes. He is nearly all muscle and he shows it off by wearing little. His physical strength is tempered by his usual amicable personality. However when it comes to the battle, he is intense as anyone, turning into a literal demon bear at times.
