And Tessa leads the three of you to her boudoir for an night of many desserts.
===========================
The next day, Tessa bids you farewell, with a kiss for her dessert partners and you sail for Port Peril. The trip which takes about a week, is surprisingly uneventful and the ships pull up to dock.

"That was a quiet trip. For better or worse I'd say our reputation is working. Everyone seems to be staying out of our way."

"Yepses, everyone afraid of the Raging Storm and it's great gobgob captain!" The goblin says before he does his Captain Morgan-esk pose. "We need to sends messenger to place where longshank Hurricane King is with bribes of 4 of our plunders, otherwise he no see us."

Nice. If people have nothing to do, feel free to aid.

Yea, Port Peril is fairly big so you can pick up most things. Unless people have something else they want to do, I'm moving on.
The next morning, you are sent a missive telling you to go to the docks. When you arrive, you are greeted by the sight of a burly half orc surrounded by an entourage of fellow pirates. He examines each of you as you approach. "So you're the officers of the Raging Storm? Heh, I expected a tougher looking group of sods, not nobles playing pirate. Me name's Tsadock Goldtooth, first mate to Kerdak Bonefist. Also known as the Hurricane King and you should remember that."
DM Amazing Red |
Tsadok calmly grabs the letter while glaring at the bull, ignoring Chubs. He tears it open and slowly reads it. "Alright, you've done your homework. But just having sponsorship isn't enough. You lot have to go through the Testing." There are some oohs and aahs coming from his entourage. "For the first test, we need one of you to volunteer and no helping from anyone else in your group."
Bjorkus |
Bjorkus rolls his eyes and snorts.
"I'll take your sodding test. Leave the girl out of it."
The bull interposes himself between the orc and Opal.
"What do you have for me ugly."
Bjorkus |
"It's all yours captain. I just wanted to shut the sod up and breaking his jaw might make it hard for him to give us our tests", the minotaur said with a growl.
DM Amazing Red |
"I was wondering if one of you had a set. The first test is to prove you're not just a bunch of fancy jackets and that you're passable sailors. You will climb up to the foremast of that ship and unfurl and set the the sail from the top of the yard before one of my guys does the same on the mizzenmast. No help, no magic."
So you have to climb up 60 feet, the DC is 10 for the first 45 feet while the last 15 feet is DC 15. Contestants must then make their way along the yard, which extends 30 feet out from both sides of the mast,
untying sail as they go which requires a DC 15 acrobatics check. The sail is tied to the yard at four locations, 15 feet from the mast and 30 feet from the mast on both sides. Correctly unfurling each of the four areas of sail without it snagging or tangling requires a DC 15 Profession (sailor) check and takes a standard action.
"My boy Haines here will be competing against you. Now go!"
Give me an init in case of a tie and your actions please.

And despite his best efforts, Chubs makes a few too many mistakes and is beaten by the man known as Haines.
Tsadok starts laughing out loud as Chubs is beaten. "I knew you didn't have what it takes. But luckily for you, it's best two out of three, so on to the next test. It's one of you against me in a game of Bastard's Fool." The game is set up on a table on the Raging Storm's deck.
So to simplify this, you each start with a stake of 100 pp, which you have to provide. Tsadok has a money changer to change any gold into platinum if needed. It's basically opposed Profession(Gambler) checks until one of you runs out of money. Minimum bet is 5pp and you can always go all in. You can improves your check with a successful DC 15 Bluff check or Sense Motive check and it'll give you a +2 to your profession check. You can also try to cheat with sleight of hand which gives you a +4, but if you get caught you lose. And everytime you win a hand you have to take a shot of Gutburn Rum. Every shot comes with a DC 10 Fort Save or you take a cumulative -1 to all skill checks. And once you take a number of drinks equal to double your con modifier, you are sickened.
