Bron Frostbreath |
-Let's just get outta here...
Sedelion Deighstalach |
"Indeed. This door is pretty sturdy, not going to be able to get much through it... but then, makes it a lot less likely anyone heard our exchange with the fiends down below. Shall we?"
Sedelion smiles a bit sarcastically, and looks to the beefier members of his party to be the first through the door to (presumably) the courtyard.
Libris Mortis |
"Hah. Age before beauty I guess" As Libris opens the door
-Posted with Wayfinder
Bron Frostbreath |
Bron helps Libris if he needs help, or stands ready in case something or someone is waiting on the other side.
The Black Shadow |
You open the door to the north and see that there is a long hallway 80 feet long by 20 feet wide with 3 doors to the west, 2 doors to the east and at the end of the hall. At the end of the north hall is a double door with two armed guards standing at the end of them. The halls are lit with burning wall sources so it is bright enough to see figures even from their distance. When the door opens the guards look in your direction in surprise.
One of them yells, "Who goes there! Wait! You aren't guards!"
Guard Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Roll for initiative please.
Sedelion Deighstalach |
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
"No, but we are going past your post. One chance: Drop your weapons, get on the ground, and let us bind you. Resist and meet the fate of those who were guarding us."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
The Black Shadow |
While the guards seem frightened by Sedeliion, they don't look like they'll surrender unless they're cornered. More likely he's sparked them further to find help rather than stand and fight against the party. You are pretty sure that if situations were reversed you woulden't outright surrender to a foe in your own household so long as you had a route of escape or allies nearby to call on.
Still with a natural 20, mechanically they are Demoralized for a turn, so shaken.
Sedelion Deighstalach |
Seeing the expressions on their faces, the elf sighs.
"Why can't people take the easier path for once? So be it."
Sedelion steps through the door and to the left of it, giving his companions a clear path in. Once in position, he draws his bow and knocks an arrow.
"Time to see how much I remember from my mother's teaching."
Move action to enter the room, standard action to draw my bow, free action to draw an arrow.
Bron Frostbreath |
Bron mumbles a swearing and charges forward.
As they're 80' away, I'll double move and engage them so they provoke if they try to flee.
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Randu |
Init: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Randu moves in and makes sure he's not blocking his friends, drawing his weapons again and looking for any horn or alarm bell standing free in hopes to prevent their foes from raising hue and cry.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Sedelion Deighstalach |
Wow, did not know that Ash. Thanks, taking that shot now. :)
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
After a quickly taking aim, Sedelion looses the arrow at whichever of the two guards looks most like he is about to go for help.
Libris Mortis |
Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Libris rushes at the already wounded guard, taking a swing at him as he closes the 80ft distance in mere seconds!
Charge Power Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 2 = 26
Confirm?: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 = 9
Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
The Black Shadow |
Libis using his extended speed is able to close the 80 foot hallway and stabs his sword into the wounded guard. Still with his armor it fends off enough damage that the blow is not lethal in itself. Still the stab is enough to drop the guard and send him sprawling to the ground due to the wound from the arrow.
Hound initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
The hound double moves toward the guard with his weapon ready. Usually he would have 40 speed but because he's currently crippled he has 10 foot less movement than that of his normal species.
Bron Frostbreath |
Double move won't get to them unless you have a 40 foot move speed. You could do a full run action to reach them though.
Yeah, that's what I meant, my math wasn't too brilliant, I know...
Sedelion Deighstalach |
With one guard down, and the other in range of Libris and Bron, Sedelion smiles.
"This is why people really should listen when an outnumbering force offers them the chance to lay down arms. Well?" the elf looks at the remaining guard expectantly, "Do you want to spare us the trouble or do you want to end up like your friend?"
The Black Shadow |
Ok well seeing his friend drop and an Orc in his face and being pinned down with no route of escape the second guard drops his sword and puts his hands up in surrender. "I give up! Don't kill me!"
Perception Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
It does not seem anyone responds to the combat. It appears the thick walls have once again worked to your advantage. What do you do now?
Libris Mortis |
"Yet you do not show those who come here the same curtesy? I should spill your blood just to prove a point..." he growls, his sword arm shaking
Sedelion Deighstalach |
Seeing the sword drop, and the rage in Libris' form, the elf rushes forward.
"That would make us no better than they are. Besides, this isn't Blackerly."
Turning back to the guard, the elf addresses him.
"My companion here wants blood, I suggest you don't give us a reason to let him have more. I am going to search you for additional weapons now. Don't make any sudden movements or resist."
Turning back to Libris, "If he does anything hostile, kill him even if you have to wound or kill me."
Perception: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 2 = 17 (To find and remove all items of importance from the man.)
Libris Mortis |
"I was not intending to do otherwise" he eyes the guard.
"And you are right, he is not that stain on this world. I will reserve my rage for him."
heh. One of the few times you can use a class skill as a conversation item =^^=

Maxim Ashvayne |
Having little ability to strike at the guards from this distance, Ash hurries forward toward the ensuing melee. As things have been progressively getting worse and he has found himself drawn into hand-to-hand contact multiple times, he taps into his limited arcane resources to summon an ethereal ward of force around his body.
move action to move 30' up. standard action to cast mage armor
Sedelion Deighstalach |
Sedelion breaths a quiet sigh as he removes the signal horn and weapons. "This could have been a lot of trouble."
"So, two questions for you before we knock you out. Continue cooperating and you might see your family again. First, which of these doors lead to the courtyard and what is between here and there. Second," the elf looks at Libris as he asks this question, "where are we most likely to find Blackerly?"
Libris Mortis |
"And please lie... so i can come back and beat the truth out of you. You people seem to like that sort of thing..." if he could grin he would.

Bron Frostbreath |
-Dude, now's when you think being a prisoner is worth more silver than being a guard, ironically, uh?- says Bron with a smile. Then he puts whatever items the guard carried and no one wanted away, so as to not call for unnecessary attention.
-Talk fast or die fast, man. Choose fast, also.
Woops, sorry, this was supposed to go before Black Shadow's answer :P
After the guard's response:
-How many do you call a bunch?
Randu |
Randu looks sympathetically at the man who pleads for mercy, and says, "Mitra lead you and your family to a safe path after all is done. I'll pray for them," He doubts it may mean anything to the fellow, but they need to show the gifts of kindness to teach people what it means again
Maxim Ashvayne |
Ash grabs the soldier's belt and uses it to bind his hands behind him. "What else can you share with us that will aid us in our escape? The guards and dogs in the courtyard, is there any way around them?" After binding him, he steps in front of him, coldly awaiting his answer...
Maxim Ashvayne |
Ash continues to stare at him, pondering his next move. "But if we leave you here alive, simply tied up while your fellow watchman has been run through, will they not assume you helped us escape and execute you on the spot?" He picks up his leather club, "Answer my question and I will knock you out. That way when the others find you it look as if you were defeated in combat, rather than having surrendered... or worse, conspired with us."
Libris Mortis |
"Blackerly. With 5 guards. Does not sound too difficult. We have the same equipment the guards have. And if we get some explosives. That can help too" he grins
"One last question. Armory. Where is it?"

Libris Mortis |
"Good man. Sleep well" he grins as he makes his way to the door
"Lets get ourselves equiped"

Maxim Ashvayne |
Ash sighs, then looks at the guard. "Thank you. I am sorry for this, may your gods look after you and your family." Ash strikes him in the back of the head to knock him out.
melee attack vs helpless: 1d20 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 1 + 4 = 15 effective dex 0, -5 to AC
damage, nonlethal: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
The Black Shadow |
Assume you are able to knock the guard out without a problem, assuming more than one of you pound him unconscious. You find that the door unfortunately is locked with a rather solid looking lock and a tough looking door made of hard wood banded with steel. Unfortunately none of the keys you have or find on the guards unlock this door.
Bron Frostbreath |
-Sadly, that's beyond my capabilities- says Bron shaking his head. -Our friend Sedelion, though, did a good job back there. Do you want to give it a try, Sed?
After Sedelion's answer, whichever it is, Bron talks to the others.
-So, 6 people in there. What do you say? I vote for living them alone, they'll be punished far worse than we could ever do. But...- he says that last word looking at Libris.
Libris Mortis |
"If they are the only ones left, i would like a chance at them." he says meeting the glance

Sedelion Deighstalach |
So what did we get besides the signal horn from the guards? Same kit as the first 4 or anything different?
The elf almost winces at the shortening of his name. "... Sed... really?" The grimace passes quickly though, and he does not comment on it vocally.
"I can, though we should probably stash these bodies somewhere first, especially if we are going anywhere but the courtyard. I would rather someone think they were being lazy or corrupt than to know the truth for certain if someone comes in from the courtyard."
After a moment's thought, Sedelion gestures back toward the stairs leading to the torture chamber. "I doubt any normal guard goes there without reason, and we can look in their quarters while we are there, given you had wanted a peek, Ash. After that, we should decide which way we are going for certain... further in after Blackerly and more weapons, or on our way out."
Maxim Ashvayne |
"Hiding the bodies makes sense, though that puddle of blood might be a problem..." Ash points to the pool forming below the dead guardsman. "Libris, while I understand your desire for vengeance, we have gotten lucky to this point. If we head back to face Blackerly and his five companions, we will still then have to deal with the guards on the walls, the dogs, and of course, the warden himself. I would rather retain our limited resources for the battle that lies ahead, rather than the one that we have already slipped past."
The Black Shadow |
The Hound says, "Blackary and the rest of these demented fiends should pay for their crimes against so many innocent souls. Still, I would not want to lose my chance for vengeance on my true enemy by throwing my life, not to mention your lives away without good reason. Escape should be our main goal rather than vendettas. Our escape from this place alone would be a kick in the teeth to the Barcan rule. These prison guards are but a symptom of a greater evil, not the cause."
Bron Frostbreath |
-Oh, just thinking how much will they seethe, it makes me happy. And we can claim to be the only ones to have escaped Brandescar. That'll be an uppercut right to their authority's jaws.
"I escaped Brandescar", I can see the t-shirts xD
Sedelion Deighstalach |
"Ash, you are right about the blood, but I imagine that is less out out of place than the bodies of known guards. Still, if we are mostly for leaving instead of dealing with the other evils inside this wretched place," the elf gives a querying look at Libris, "then perhaps we won't need to worry."
Taking a little of the blood from the dead guard, Sedelion draws a quick swallowtail butterfly on the door leading out to the courtyard before wiping his hands on the dead man's clothes. (Assuming he had arrows, Sedelion will also replenish his quiver from the dead man's to bring the count back up to 20.)
Noticing the questioning looks from his companions, the elf shrugs as he pulls out the thieves tools and examines the door to freedom.
"We always leave our calling card when we free slaves. It feels right to leave it here... to let them know that no amount of infernal wards or locks or walls or chains will keep out the freedom of Desna."
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Craft: Locks: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 Both on examining the lock to determine difficulty and whether there are any traps on it.
