Bron Frostbreath |
Bron keeps some of the chains still on himself. -I can use these, you can keep the dagger- he says. -When we knock out the first guards, we should have some more weapons to choose from.
Being ready for the fight himself, Bron watches as the elf is trying to liberate the strange creature. Whenever he thinks the chains make too much noise, he coughs or spits trying to hide the tell-tale sound from the guards.
Whispering: -Hey, mates, my coughings are not the most realistic of them all, I know... anyone a bit more versed in faking them wants to help me?
The Black Shadow |
1d20 ⇒ 7
1d20 ⇒ 12
They get a chance to perceive if you fail the roll by 5 or more
Ok lucky you, none of the guards respond to the clicking noises you're making. Apparently they're caught up in some conversation in the other room and not currently listening. Make me some more rolls. I'll give you a +2 circumstance bonus as you've spent time getting the feel of this new lock.
Sedelion Deighstalach |
The frustration and annoyance are plainly visible on the elf's face, but Sedelion does not relent from the task at hand.
"Come on, you thrice infernal thing, OPEN already!"
Disable Device, 4th Attempt: 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 9 + 2 + 2 = 27
The Black Shadow |
Ok finally with a curse the lock clicks and the door is open. That was definitely a better lock than the cuffs but still the locks of this place are underwhelming as the door swings open.
1d20 ⇒ 5
Fortunately the guards don't respond to the creaking gate. You're now out of your cell now and one step closer to freedom.
Sedelion Deighstalach |
Sedelion holds his breath as the door swings open, its rusty hinges creaking. When nothing happens, he exhales softly.
"Finally. We should get ready, friends, as we can't have too much more time before the patrol comes through again. I will begin working on our fellow's final restraints, keep me covered."
The elf moves softly to the creature and smiles at it.
"I am not sure if you understand me or not, but I mean you no harm. I only intend to undo these bindings. Please be still and try to remain quiet once I remove them."
Sedelion will say this to him in all the languages he knows to increase the odds of its understanding him: Common, Elvish, Celestial, Draconic, and Sylvian.
Hoping that the creature will do as he has asked, Sedelion begins to work on its remaining restraints.
If I can take a 10 on it I will, but if not including a first attempt roll. Disregard if taking a 10 is possible.
Disable Device: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 2 = 17
The Black Shadow |
1d20 ⇒ 7
The door to the cell with the Dog-Creature seems just as difficult as that of the cell door of your cell thus the first attempt fails and makes some scratching noises.
He nods approvingly, despite his look and condition you can tell that this creature is intelligent and knows what you're talking about.
Sedelion Deighstalach |
"They really were worried about what you might do if let free, weren't they? Still, these locks will eventually give, don't worry."
Sedelion smiles at the creature and continues to try to work on the locks.
Disable Device, 2nd Attempt: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 9 + 2 = 18
Libris Mortis |
the dice roller wants us not to have the element of surprise...
"If youre going to struggle, why dont we rather go get the keys and come back? " he growls under his breath. Still keeping his position next to the door, in case someone decides to crash their escape plan

Abbo Lyrio |
Abbo observes the others working. He's silent, thoughtful, and tries to meditate and concentrate on praying for Desna. Freedom, he knows, will come.
I forgot about Eschew Materials! Lol
Sedelion Deighstalach |
Sedelion briefly glares at the non-human. "For one, this lock is about as hard as the cell door. They must really not want this one to be free... more than they cared about us."
The elf's face softens a bit and he turns back to the locks.
"And for two, he was here like this when we arrived... which means he has been here longer than we have. I think he has been bound long enough, don't you?"
Disable Device, 3rd Attempt: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 2 = 16
The Black Shadow |
1d20 ⇒ 6
1d20 ⇒ 14
Ok after the 2nd attempt, you hear a voice bellow, "That's it! I'm fed up with those dammed rattling noises! That ain't just a rat. There is something those prisoners are up to. Lets go rough em up for wasting our darn time."
1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
They're reacting pretty slow it seems though, probably from lounging around in the guard rooms. You got 4 rounds before they open the door. What do you do?
Libris Mortis |
as mentioned, first guard that enters i will grapple
Sedelion Deighstalach |
Sedelion will make one last attempt at unlocking the chains, then will position himself aid Libris.
"Hells take these locks and their clinking. One last attempt, good sir... after which I might need to step away and thank our gracious hosts for their boundless hospitality."
"Desna, please help me get these finally."
Disable Device: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 9 + 2 = 18
Bron Frostbreath |
Bron puts himself beside the door, chains ready. He looks at Libris and nods. -First one to come in is for you, second one I'll make him a new face, mate- he seems to mean.
Ready an action for when the guards come in. Will try to check how many guards are coming, using hearing, scent or logic.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
I would also like to remind all my fellow cellmates that we've got 3 Hero Points at our disposition, just in case something goes tough.
Libris Mortis |
Libris nods, a smirk on his face. Tonight Charon will be pleased
Abbo Lyrio |
GM: can we cast spells already? Not sure if there's some sort of anti magic going on or whatnot. I'll cast detect magic to test if needed. If it's possible to cast spells already, I'll ray of frost the hell out of these guards :)
The Black Shadow |
Ok well taking time to set up the door swings open and four guards armed with leather wrapped clubs walk into the cell block. You may get a surprise round against them.
As for the perception, you hear 4 sets of footsteps, meaning there is 4 guards in the other room.
Usually will use maps with Google Drive, but can't do this from where I am right now so we'll use Theatre of the mind for this.
Libris Mortis may attempt to grapple a guard by surprise if he wishes. Anyone with readied actions may act as well.
As all the guards are basically the same stats I'll roll them as a group. Expect this a lot in when dealing with generic foes.
Guard Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Sedelion Deighstalach |
Will be unable to post for a few hours, rolling my initiative. Sedelion will attempt to close in to a guard and disarm him, but I am not sure if I would have been ready to do so during the surprise round... if not, assume I move into position to do so while the guards are surprised.
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Bron Frostbreath |
As soon as the door opens, Bron hurls his chains against one of the guards, catching him off-guard see what I did here?.
Readied action. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 => If they are wearing Chain Shirts and/or Shields, let me know (I might use some Stamina). If not, this should probably be a hit.
I don't know how much damage does this improvised weapon do.
After the resolution of the attack, Initiative roll. 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Libris Mortis |
Grapple: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Libris lunges at the first guard as the door swings open
Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Abbo Lyrio |
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Abbo readies his spell. His hands get cold, the ice smoke feels the air, and when he sees a guard the Ray of Frost leaves his fingers towards the target.
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Spell Resistance: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 Not sure if the guard has SR
Damage: 1d3 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Bron Frostbreath |
Chain Shirt + Shield means an AC of 16, so I'll pass.
Libris Mortis |
Chain Shirt + Shield means an AC of 16, so I'll pass.
remember for that attack they are flat footed. No dex. So maybe less 1 or 2 on the AC

Libris Mortis |
as far as i know. Im only one who took one IC. Everyone else offered to pass or take one OOC.

Randu |
Randu declined on the dagger knowing others could use it better.
Init: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Randu moves to help Libris...
I don't have disarm, but with Libris having grappled the guy is it possible to make the guard drop the club or just rip it away from him?
Maxim Ashvayne |
initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Seeing the others having trouble with their respective guards, Ash hesitates for a split second- damn, the warriors are having trouble, what can I do... But I must try... -then steps forward and thrusts the dagger at one of the guards.
melee attack (dagger): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
A single words slips past Ash's lips. "Damn."
Libris Mortis |
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Mortis jabs the one he grappled with the dagger he was given, right between the ribs
Damage: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Abbo Lyrio |
Abbo tries to attack the same guard as Libris with his Ray of Frost.
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Damage: 1d3 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
He is terrible at it!
Sedelion Deighstalach |
obviously this will come pretty close to the end, but posting now so that it is on the docket for resolution.
"I wish I had actually taken one of those daggers instead of just expressing interest in one.... oh well, I guess I will have to make do."
The elf grimaces and attempts to wrestle away the club from the nearest guard.
Disarm Attempt, Unarmed: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 6 - 4 = 16
I think that should do it... CMD is typically 10+dex+str+size mods, so unless they are really strong or really agile.... or if they aren't human, as I was assuming they were, which would knock my bonus down to 4 instead of 6. That said, I do need to dodge the attack of opportunity, or at least not take much damage from it. Assuming all these to be true, Sedelion will be grabbing the club once it hits the ground.
Bron Frostbreath |
Bron thinks that he is a person of honour - he said he would beat one of the guards with his chain, so he's going to do so.
-Now feel the chain yourself, please. I've saved the most juicy part just for you.
Attack with chain: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Once again, I still don't know the damage of the chain, so in case I hit, roll 1d?+4, please.
Edit: boooo, go home...
Libris Mortis |
I goofed on my attack roll. Should be +4 due to power attack. but i think 18 still hit
The Black Shadow |
Ok well I'll say that hits, considering he's currently grappled and can't use his shield bonus
With a swing from the chain it strikes the guard in the face, shattering his jaw and knocking him unconscious. He goes limp in the grip of Libis.
As for the guards, one attacks Libis
Club Swing: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
He thumps Libis over the head for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 non-lethal damage.
One of them moves up on and swings at Bron.
Club Swing: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 non-lethal damage to Bron.
The last goes after Randu.
The disarmed one yells, "I'll gut you dammed slave!. He pulls out his longsword and takes a swing.
Sword Swing: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Sword Swing Confirm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 lethal damage Sedelion.
Bron Frostbreath |
The club strikes Bron in his shoulder, leaving his whole arm half dazed and completely in pain.
-Ouch! Try not to make me angry, human - you really don't want that.
Sedelion Deighstalach |
Ouch... that sets me to 3 hp left.
"Heh.... <cough> seems someone is ... unhappy that... I got his stick."
"Looks like I will be seeing you soon, Lady Desna. At least I got the others free first."
Not deterred by the severity of his wounds, nor cowed by his opponent's armor, Sedelion decides to go out swinging his newly acquired club.
Attacking the guard that hit me... probably not the wisest idea, but Sedelion is convinced he will die anyway.
Melee Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 2 = 6 nonlethal.
Using your damage and adding 2 more for favored enemy bonus.
"Heh <cough><COUGH><cough> heh heh... feels good, huh?"
Libris Mortis |
Stab!: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 2 = 23
Libris forgos to attack the one with the club. A bruise or two wont matter at this time. As he steps up to stab the one with his sword drawn
Shlick: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
