Hella down for gesalt, as for second table I vote Japan or San Francisco. SF is awesome, and I live in Japan and speak Japanese so that'd be a cool language/kn(local/geo) thing (^.^).
QQ. If we have a class benefit that gives us prof with firearms, and we instead get prof with more exciting firearms?

Jade Essex |

I am considering allowing every character to be proficient with regular firearms, regular meaning something other than military grade sniper rifles, lasers, gatling guns and such. Would everyone like this?
I'd be in favour of that on the grounds that my character probably would not be super combat savvy in the first place and I'd otherwise have to burn a feat for a gun that I wouldn't use often.
I also like E6 and Gestalt.

Venturea Luminass |

I am considering, if people are interested, making this an e6/gestalt campaign, assuming that EVERYONE is on board with the notion! Basically, after 6th level, characters would still gain levels and pertinent class abilities, but would only gain a few points from their HD, probably around 1/4 of their normal max HP that could be gained for a new HD. This would increase options, but would not increase survivability. There would be no such thing as 1,000 EXP levels though. Thoughts? This is just a random idea, not a concrete game rule as of yet.
Where would everyone like the second table to take place? USA, not the USA, ect.? I can provide more info on the other nations if people want an atypical post-apocalyptic setting.
Q: e6?
A: Rebuild my PC into a system I don't know. rather not really.Q: ARE the rules for e6 online and as complete as the pathfinder rules?? becouse I would rather not be looking at big Pdf's on my phone to work stuff out, and a like linking to URLs on my PC sheets here.
Q: Gestalt campaign?
A: yes please
Q: After 6th level, characters would still gain levels and pertinent class abilities, but...
A:Trust me worry about that when and IF we get to level 6.

Civilian Firearms in USA - would be up to Semi-Automatic weapons, so those who call an assault rifle, but really it is a carbine by both Law Enforcement and Military definitions, a civilian can purchase one. Also remember, an US civilian can purchase an Anti-material rifle such as a Barrett because it is not fully automatic. The only time you need a class 3 and 4 ATF Tax Stamp or Curio's license, is when you purchase true Assault Rifles or Silencers (Class 3 Tax Stamp or Curio's license), and Howitzers (Class 4). If you are in a more firearm promoting community, it is easy to obtain an ATF Class 3 Tax Stamp as long as the local sheriff likes you, you do not have a criminal record, you pay $200+, ATF does not have a problem with you, and oh yes, you'll probably need the help of a FFL Dealer for another $35+. If you live in a nanny state, forget it.

Hey, I asked this earlier, but I don't think it got an answer...
I'm not overly familiar with the setting, so I wanted to run this idea past the GM and see if it's viable.
My character would essentially be a pre-war scientist who was doing research into better suits of armour. During the fall they went into cryo-sleep, but the pod they were in was faulty and radiation slipped through. When it finally tripped the safeties and let them out it was as a mutant, changing them into a Freak with the Ability Decay Drawback Mutation and the Enlarged Form positive mutation (Plus the Mutation Feat to even up the score).

GM Wasteland Wanderer |

Vanessa Ares, no, it would be the altered rules above. It would allow PCs to still be deadly and would keep their option expansion going each level, but they would be squishier than a normal fantasy character. That's the main part that appeals to me about E6 is that it keeps PCs from surviving 10 headshots in a row. It helps make the game more dangerous, but without making the campaign a game of rocket tag. Or, to use a Fallout analogy, it doesn't create a 'The Courier with the Esther Mini Nuke Launcher from the Gun Runners Arsenal versus the Deathclaw Mother from the Quarry after you killed her babies with your sniper rifle'-type situation. That's an ugly situation, for those without reference!
Jonny...Panic, I mean more mainstream civilian firearms. Military-grade and above is available as such: regular military grade weaponry is open to those who have proficiency with martial weapons and things above that, such as experimental weapons, will require their own proficiencies unless otherwise noted.
JonGarret, I see you have the Broken Earth PHP, if not the actual setting itself! If you have the latter, stay away from the GM section, as I will be mining it for ideas occasionally.
Yes, that idea is allowed! You said that you were planning on basically getting power armor, right?
I think people are going to like the Perks! I am breaking down some of my old Darwin's World classes and making their abilities into Perks as well. I believe that people will be pleased with these, for they range from solid passive bonuses, to flavorful option-openers, to crafting Perks that yield unique and powerful weapon crafting options, to nice activated abilities. With things like, as a 12th level Perk available only to those with the Doctor Background, being able to take the 'Hand of God' Perk and have a chance to perform one of those 'almost a miracle it was so improbable'-type resuscitations on a fallen character has been dead less than thirty minutes and is still mostly intact.

Here are the E6 rules or actually P6, the P just stands for Pathfinder. Of course, our GM may want to use different rules?
cool thanks for that, after reading it I'm fine with that subset of rules if that is all there is.
:)
PS here is another little Gem.
The fun part was always the risky Mutant rolls : lets see...
1d20 ⇒ 9
PHOTOSYNTHETIC SKIN : Character produces his own food when exposed to sunlight (or equivalent). He heals 3 times faster than normal when in sunlight. He takes only half damage from light-based weapons. In darkness, his speed is half normal and he gets only 1 attack per 2 rounds. He suffers 1 die additional damage from cold or heat based weapons. Chlorophyl in his body makes his blood (but not his skin) green.
Hay Green no food PC bur slow and hits once.

General proficiency in firearms for all characters works for me, as does the E6 option. One thing I would like to note is that I'll be travelling over the weekend, so I'll probably only be able to check in on this thread sometime on Monday. Also, 2+ posts per day is a bit brisk for me, given the projects I have this summer, so I'm willing to have my character bumped down to alternate status at best - basically, if it comes to choosing between my own and somebody else's character for the start of the campaign, go with that other person's.

Frank Teton |

I'd be up for E6 and gestalt.
Note that if I understand your new firearms proficiencies properly it would be possible for a person to be able to use a military grade assault rifle proficiently when it was set for semiautomatic fire, but be nonproficient with the same weapon when it was set for full automatic fire. Which, bizarre as it might sound to some people, actually makes sense from a real world perspective. Handling a weapon well on full auto fire takes more practice and requires burning more ammunition than using it well on semiautomatic.

JonGarrett |

Yes, that idea is allowed! You said that you were planning on basically getting power armor, right?
Yes, I have the full thing, but for just such reasons I've been staying away from the setting area and looking at only the rules.
And yes, basically, my plan is to use the Mobius Armour Core to eventually power some Rampage Armour from the Weapons of Machinesmith Destruction.
Rampage Armor (Ex): This complex, bulky suit of plate armor is distinguished by the hydraulics and gears visible in its joints and the backpack-sized engine around its shoulders. Like plate armor, rampage armor requires help to don, which takes a half hour to do so correctly. Once inside, the machinesmith must spend a full-round action to activate the armor, allowing her to move about freely and benefit from its effects. To function, the armor requires one flask of alchemist’s
fire per hour.
If the armor is not put on properly or lacks fuel, it cannot be moved by the wearer in any way, leaving her paralyzed until she can remove herself from the armor, taking 10 minutes, or activate it. When functioning properly, the armor provides a +2 mechanical bonus to Strength, and the wearer’s Strength is treated as +10 higher when determining carrying capacity. The armor has the same hit points and hardness as plate armor.
The machinesmith must be proficient in heavy armor and at least 8th level to select this trick.
Rampage armor can serve as the base for a Mobius suit. If done so, the Mobius core provides all the power the gadget requires, eliminating the need for refueling.
Rampage armor can be enchanted like normal armor.
~~~
Rampage Armor, Improved (Ex): This armor functions as rampage armor, except it provides a +4 mechanical bonus to Strength instead of +2. Also, by spending a swift action and 10 minutes of the armor’s fuel, the
machinesmith can gain an extra attack while making a full attack. This effect does not stack with haste, the speed weapon property, or other such effects. If this armor is used as a base for a Mobius suit, to use this effect the machinesmith instead spends a charge from her Mobius armor. The machinesmith must be at least 14th level to select this trick
Along with a Portable Cannon built into the suit and the ability to Redline it for more power, it should be pretty close to power armour. The only floor with the plan is, obviously, it doesn't have the Ballistic property. I figure when we get near level 8 we can work something out, though, as it's some distance away. Although I must admit the level 8 part sucks a bit.
Just made my Gestalt, Braking the game has been my worry, could have gone mad with gunslinger or marksmen. But after long hard thinking and looking at what others where making. I think I have come up with something simple focused and neat. I think she would add greatly to any party.
I will be closing recruitment on Sunday, but I WILL be doing two tables of PCs!
The second table will be set in the 'classic wasteland' area that stretches from California to Utah. I will be opening a second, semi-closed recruitment for this so that you can get a better idea of the area-specific lore and such, plus so you can get the rub on the extra races available.
If everyone could post preferences about which table you would want to be in or just post that you have no preference, please let me know.
JonGarret, feel free to add the Ballistic property to the cannon! I don't know why a cannon wouldn't be treated as such.
As for Craft (Wondrous Items), you can select that to be able to craft scientific versions of many magic items, although they are generally a bit more pricey in equivalent monetary conversions. If you want to replace it, however, Scrapper is certainly allowed.
ALL Craft feats produce high tech items. For example, Craft (Arms and Armor) can be used to create a Singularity Blade (At ridiculously high level and cash, of course!) or a suit of Nanocloaking Armor.
Cool, well see if we get a full table
Can we move to discussion?
She had been walking down the half flattened street, over to one side a wrecked mall. They had walked out onto the street, three of them, A sim and two freaks, the sim was carrying a large blunderbuss like shotgun, One Freak a scrap crossbow and another what liked like a clamor sword. The leader he spoke,
"Well, well lady you walkin down our street, you got price of walking?
His voice was slow like talking to a child.
Her hat was down, she waited a moment, the wind blow the dust past the three.
"You ear no?
He said again, the other grind an evil grin, the sim how ever fell over, face down fast asleep. The two spun round and looked at him. It was then she talked.
"look to your left boys."
head spun just in time to see the Gecko, it slammed into the Freak with the crossbow, taking him off down a side street in its jaws. The leader head spun round again to her, into to see a large revolver now pointing at his head. Her eyes now where looking at him.
"Thank you for feeding my ride, now for you, it seems you three like robing the passing trade, that is bad for business up in Scrap town. You are going to come with me and face the music or take your chance, a ..."
She stopped as he hit her with a blinding flash of light.
WTF
She heard him step close, then a sword hit, it was only her force shield that pushed it aside. But her gun flow from her hand. She dropped and rolled, coming up on the left. Her sight started to come back, but he was on her again, she had lost her focus with that flash.
As he came in again she grabbed his hand, then fell back pulling him over on top of her, He Dropped his sword and went for her neck. She could not breath, there was only one thing she could do, she linked to her psicystal and used its focus. He cried out in pain, blood came from his noise. She shuddered and fell over onto his side.
She got up, dusted herself off picked up her hat and then she walked over and looked at the dead freak. What ever he had hit her with she would not fund out about now. She walked over her gun and picked that up, the sim was coming round. She pointing it at him.
"Well seems your coming with me"
I should have him properly "gestalted" by later today. I would prefer first table. Going ranger I get to pick a "combat style". What I am going to do is to modify the archery combat style to say that it applies to firearms and call it the firearms combat style. The only real change is that I will be replacing the "Manyshot" feat with "Two weapon fighting". That will enable him to use two pistols (or a pistol and a melee weapon) at the same time with minimal penalties. It being understood/assumed that pistols in general would be considered to be light weapons.
Frank Teton |
*Sits at the second table alone*
Did we decide for sure that we're going gestalt? If so, I suppose I should figure out a second class.
*I've been meaning to talk to you about using mouth wash and bathing more often.* :-)
As to the much more important second part of your post I thought that had been decided. However, going back through all the previous posts leaves me scratching my head. So, if we could please get an official determination from our fearless GM?
Frank Teton wrote:I should have him properly "gestalted" by later today.Did we decide for sure that we're going gestalt? If so, I suppose I should figure out a second class.
Yes but E6 Gestalt, it makes more well rounded but still challenging. I am not sure if you ever been in an E6, P6, or M6, but you max out level 6 but continue to earn experience points to purchase more attributes, feats, and probably perks. In addition, the GM has a couple of modifications such as Perks we see in Fallout.
JonGarrett |
Did I miss a post? The last thing I see from GM Wasteland is that he was considering going gestalt E6, not that it was definite.
I'm happy to play at either table. I can tweek the character to fit the specific setting and rules as we go. And if it's useful., I'll keep craft (Wondrous Items) as it fits the character best. I look forwards to seeing the horrible, horrible things I can build
Jade Essex |
I literally have no idea what to do if we go Gestalt and I'm frustrated enough that I'm ready to ask for thoughts from others. All feedback is welcome - I'm going to spoiler alert my wall of text so as to prevent cluttering up this thread. Feel free to PM me suggestions for the same reason.
Gunslinger, Swashbuckler, Hunter, and Slayer are all fine additions if I want to go the Gestalt route of "Make up for what I'm missing", but it also changes my character in a way that I don't really like. Having style or being great with a weapon don't really fit what I have in mind for my character - who would be more of a scholar. It might make sense to go into that kind of thing after a while of wandering as a Ronin, but right now, she's just embarking and it doesn't feel right. Coming from a small and peaceful community, there is no reason for her to be a Deadeye shot or to be the type to do sneak attacks and murder.
I kind of like things like Monster Lore and Stern Gaze from the Inquisitor, but again, they don't feel that appropriate for the character when you factor in things like Judgement and Bane. Same goes for Machinesmith. Cool idea, but not really for me. I don't care for Psionics and am not really interested in them mechanically. Ranger has been my top contender, because it's simple enough. It adds more options without really bogging me down. For instance, if I do want to do more with weapons, I have the free Combat Feats. It also gives the option of an Animal Companion that I probably wouldn't take. Although, I don't know. A Synthetic taking weeks to train one of the first living things it comes across does have a certain roleplay appeal. But generally, Animal Companions are just annoying to deal with.
Then I came across the third party class Scholar which feels kind of great because it builds on what I'm already doing and gives me more options. Skill Focus, +1/2 Level to Knowledge. Rogue-style talents. But some of the talents themselves are so cheese-heavy that I'm not sure on its approval. (Int instead of Str to Attack? Come on. Classes don't get those kinds of abilities, and certainly not without level restriction). Though it's still worth noting that many of the comments on it indicate that it might be a weak class - because as much as it's abilities are tailored around Intelligence, it still lacks practical (read: combat) application for many of them.
Either way, then I thought, well what about the Bard (Arcaeologist), since that's another vaguely Scholarly class that has some of the same things and also nets actually Rogue talents. But I have the same problem there as with the actual Rogue. Rogue gives more Skills and Bard gives more BAB, but aside from that there's a lot of overlap with Investigator already (Trapfinding, Trapsense, etc), plus being able to take rogue talents already. And sure, I could take Rogue coupled with an Archetype that replaces the Trap stuff (Swashbuckler for more Martial proficiency would be the most likely) but that seems like a partial fix at best.
And so with that in mind, it seems like Rogue or Bard is probably my best bet, but I wonder too if I might be setting myself back with any of these ideas. Whether it's Scholar or Bard or Rogue, a big idea of Gestalt is making your character more rounded, while I'm mostly trying to fit mine further into a niche. Instead of balancing out her 3/4 BAB or grabbing more HD, I'm trying to find more ways for her to be a scholar, and that may be hurting me. But it feels wrong to go into any of the others.
JonGarrett |
Jade - if you have a few pennies spare, you may wish to go double Investigator.
Rogue Genius Games also have an Investigator that would probably compliment your current class pretty well.
Frank Teton |
I got him all gestalted as a ranger/rogue. Changed some of his feats around. I'm not sure if his favored enemy bonus would apply to all Humanoids or simply Humanoid (Human). Regardless, if I have to pick a subtype then Human is the only one that would make sense.
Currently he is set up for table 1, but I could rework him for table 2 if necessary. Would basically be just a matter of swapping out his favored terrain.
Rangers normally get animal companions, but my jury is out on that score. It's not going to be a factor for another level anyway. It looks like I will have the option of bonding to my companions and being able to grant them some of my favored enemy bonus when it applies. I might go that route.
He is now starting with Exotic Weapons Proficiency: Firearms, which given his Special Forces background is essentially a must have. Stats on his weapons and armor have been left blank as I don't know what all is going to be available.
