Suri Kanjariya |
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Suri rushes towards the onslaught of cats, swinging furiously as she moves, her arms a blur of flame and claws.
Izra Kayal |
Auto-success on Know:Religion DC12 (+11)
Izra cursed when she recognized the swarm, and then saw both Suri and Kwin rush towards it.
"Undead!" she warned, while pulling a flask from her bandolier. This flask was marked with Pharasma's holy spiral, and she moved to get a clear lane to hurl it into the swarm. "'Ware disease," she warned the others.
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6 Plus 1 splash damage
Moved Izra and Kwin on the map
EDIT: Ah, crap! Mis-counted actions. Forgot that a bandolier isn't a potion belt, so no free action to draw the flask. M/E(to pull flask) and Move, and the flask-throw will have to happen next round. *sigh* Unless the GM wants to treat that like drawing a weapon as part of a move...
Rasp the Rogue |
As a point of fact, I do treat this situation as part of a move. So you're golden, Izra.

Kwin Longclaw |
I went through roughly the same chain of thought when I did Kwin's move. He's BAB 2 so he can draw a weapon while he moves. And I had him grab a flask at random to align more with "drawing a weapon" (reach back, grab what you know is there, and unsheath/throw) versus "retrieving an item" (e.g. pawing through a sack until you find the one specific thing you're looking for). I was prepared for the GM to shoot it down of course, but I figured I'd at least be "guilty with an explanation." :o)
(Thanks to "whoever" for moving Kwin's token, by the way.)

Koshukhep |
"Sekhmet, Bast, put me on the right path," Koshukhep prayed as he approached the swarm, leaving a clear path for Torin to shoot through. He swung his flail at the nearest of the cats, lips drawn back in a grimace of uncertainty.
"Guardians of the tomb, let us pass!"
adamantine flail: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
dmg: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Djehuti |
Djehuti grunts, displeased at not having the opportunity to sketch the room. He draws and nocks an arrow in one smooth motion and fires at the closest undead cat.
Shortbow: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
wicked_raygun |
The barrage from the Band manages to kill off many of the animals. But the undead cats seem determined to feast. Like a wave the Ubashki overwhelm Kwin and Suri, their claws ripping into their flesh.
Swarm vs Kwin: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20, Hit.
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Swarm vs Suri: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24, Hit.
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Both of you, make me fortitude saves vs. Disease, DC 13
Kwin Longclaw |
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (9) + 0 = 9 Yay! Continued success in Kwin's campaign to become known as the guy who always rushes in and gets infected/diseased/poisoned. [/sarcasm]
Torin Ironbeard |
Torin fires a couple of arrows,
Pew: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 = 11

Ahmed Kharim |
Suri Fort Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Ahmed puts a hand on Torin's back. "Let your arrows fly true. Those mangy creatures look to be carrying disease."
Cast Guidance. +1 on Torin's first attack up above. Maybe it'll make a difference but probably not.
wicked_raygun |
Alas, even with Ahmed's assistance, Torin is unable to land a solid hit on the cats.
Round 2
Djehuti: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Kwin: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Torin: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Ahmed: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Bold is up. Sorry for the delay.
Kwin Longclaw |
Kwin glances at Ahmed. "Disease!" he yelps while reaching over his shoulder and bringing a sword slashing forward...
+1 Shortsword: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
... missing handily. "Aw man, like I haven't been bitten, stung, poisoned, burned, and diseased enough already! I gotta find a new line of work!"
Koshukhep |
"This madness is not respectful of the spirits of the dead! It is a disgrace!" Koshukhep complained to the swarm, dropping his flail to swat at the undead cats with his bare claws.
Claw 1 + flank: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 2 = 19
dmg 1: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Claw 2 + flank: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 2 = 23
dmg 2: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Kwin Longclaw |
"Not respectful to the spirits of us living, either!" Kwin grouses as he bobs and weaves, looking for an opening. "They're your relatives Kosh, call them off!"
Koshukhep |
"Is that not what I am doing, friend Kwin? Maybe they need less high-minded encouragement. BEGONE, CATS!" Koshukhep roared, showing all his teeth and loud enough to wake the dead, had they not already been awake.
Rasp the Rogue |
A series of vicious attacks from the Band is enough to drastically reduce the numbers of the Ubashki. Despite this the remainng cats seem eager to continue fighting but are cowed by Koshukhep's growl.
The few remaining cats disperse and run past the Band to exit the tomb.
Combat over.

Kwin, you have Ubashki Fever. But you won't suffer negative effects for 1d3 ⇒ 3 days. A creature afflicted by ubashki fever develops unsightly splotches and sores all over its body that persist until the disease is cured. You can make your first cure save tomorrow. But feel free to role play it up as you start to get sick. ;-)

Izra Kayal |
Once the fighting was over, Izra pocketed her flask of holy water, and moved to check the wounded, looking for signs of the disease she knew the cats carried.
Heal Check - Diagnose (Kwin): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Heal Check - Diagnose (Kosh): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Heal Check - Diagnose (Suri): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
She also cleaned and healed the actual wounds with her wand.
CLW Wand - Kwin: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
CLW Wand - Kosh: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
CLW Wand - Suri: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
If she recognizes that Kwin is diseased (and if that 1 leads her to believe that Kosh is), she'll treat them both. You said Kwin's next save is tomorrow, so I'm guessing that the treatment check for Izra will happen at the same time.
Izra Kayal |
Izra clucked her tongue after looking over the injured.
"This is infected," she said to Kwin, dabbing at one of his many scratches. She cleaned it the best she could, then closed the wound with her wand. "The injury is healed, but the infection is in your blood already. You might be able to fight it off - we will see in the morning. Do try to be more careful."
Kwin Longclaw |
... feel free to role play it up as you start to get sick. ;-)
Cool, three days to ham it up. Pity Party!!! :o)
Kwin visibly relaxes as the cats turn tail and run. "That's more like it, Kosh. I knew you had it in you." He sheathes his sword as Izra approaches to check him over.
"This is infected," she said to Kwin, dabbing at one of his many scratches. She cleaned it the best she could, then closed the wound with her wand. "The injury is healed, but the infection is in your blood already."
"The, aah, wand doesn't take care of that? I feel fine," he says, scratching the newly healed wound absently.
"Do try to be more careful."
Kwin gives her a look tinged with exasperation. " 'Careful'," he says, "is staying back at the inn, drinking and carousing. 'Careful' is shying away from anything that might be dangerous. 'Careful' is hanging back so others have to put themselves in jeopardy in my place. That's not in my nature, Izra."
He pauses to think for a moment. "Wellllll, okay, the drinking and carousing is, yeah. But you get my meaning. It's all calculated risks. I'm not rushing blindly in, my luck's just been... bad lately, that's all."
"Anyway, thanks for the patch job." He gives her an appreciative smile and idly scratches the culprit wound again.
Suri Kanjariya |
Suri glances over with a gentle smile and light chastising. "Your luck could have been worse. There's a reason the ancient Osirani worshipped cats. You could have been torn to shreds." With a larger smile, she turns towards Koshu and continues. "Still, they were no match for our own. You may have worshippers yourself one day, when word of your bravery and strength escapes these tombs."
Djehuti |
Djehuti eventually puts away his bow and goes back to examining the room for any items of historical interest. "Three days should be more than enough time for us to finish here and get you to a temple for more thorough healing, Kwin. I would not think more on it." Well, he probably would, but it was good advice.
Kwin Longclaw |
Kwin gives Suri the same look he gave Izra. "Freaky spirit fright," he says, starting to tick off points on his paw digits. "Snake, dog, grub, cats... I'll run out of fingers before I count off all the zigs when I should've zagged lately, Suri. Right now I'm the poster fox for things that can go wrong in the field."
He shrugs and scratches his wound again, seemingly unaware he's doing so. "Like I said, just a run of bad luck. It'll pass. I'm better than this."
"Although," he mutters to himself as he turns away, "I gotta admit the drinking and carousing's sounding better all the time."
Koshukhep |
Koshukhep solemnly thanked Izra for her ministrations, then grinned at Suri. "A return to the old ways would not be bad," he chuckled with a wink, and elbowed Kwin. "When the world sees catfolk returned to our former glory, there may be room for a little fox in our place of honor as well. And despite all your woes, you are not dead! Those amulets were worth every copper," he said smugly. "Though, you should stop scratching those scratches. Everyone knows wounds should be licked instead."
With that dubious advice, he sniffed about the room together with Djehuti, looking for anything of interest before the party moved on.

wicked_raygun |
The Band looks around the unfinished crypt, but don't find anything particularly interesting. So after a while they descend the steps to the South.
Room B30
A stone sarcophagus rests atop a stone platform occupying the southern end of this room. The lid of the sarcophagus bears the likeness of a man and is inlaid with gemstones and trimmed in gold. Two lacquered benches run parallel to the east and west walls just north of the platform. Hieroglyphs line the walls of the chamber, and stone torch holders are set in all four corners.
The hieroglyphs on the walls tell the story of Pentheru the Younger in Ancient Osiriani, starting with the elevation of his father Pentheru the Elder to nobility, his subsequent death, and Pentheru the Younger’s inheritance of his father’s title and lands. The story boasts of their prosperity and success as land managers, the justness with which the family lived their lives, and the care with which they treated their slaves and servants. The text calls upon the gods to smile upon Pentheru the Younger and bless him with a good and just life in the Great Beyond.
Koshukhep |
Koshukhep traced the hieroglyphs with one finger, reading the inscription aloud in fits and starts as he searched his memory for the correct translations. When he finished, he turned to Djehuti, Ahmed and Suri with a questioning air. "That is right, is it not, friends? Though, it is very strange for the inscription to ask that Pentheru the Younger be granted a pile of dates in the afterlife. Surely in the afterlife, one is not hungry." His stomach growled in low counterpoint to his musings.
Koshu's memory may not always be 100% correct. :P
Torin Ironbeard |
Torin will check the sarcophagus and platform for shenanigans, "Seems a little too easy..."
Perc: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
"I'm guessing you might frown on me prying out some of these gemstones? Desecration and all that.? They're soooo shiny though..."
Djehuti |
Djehuti points at the hieroglyph Koshu had read as dates. "That is goodness, not dates. Though if one was often hungry in life I could see how their reward in the afterlife might be plentiful food. The rest was correct, though. A very good reading."
The dark-skinned elf nods at Torin. "I would prefer that we not cause any more damage than necessary, yes."
Rasp the Rogue |
Will anyone be opening the sarcophagus?
-Posted with Wayfinder
Kwin Longclaw |
Kwin claps Koshukhep on the arm. "Good job Kosh, I'm impressed."
Then he leans in and says more quietly, "When you said 'dates' I figured it meant women."
As regards the sarcophagus, it seems Torin was checking for traps on and about it? Kwin isn't touching the thing unless it's been vetted.
Koshukhep |
Koshukhep had drooped a little with disappointment at his error at Djehuti's correction, gentle though it was. He brightened a bit again at Kwin's remark to him. "That would be a goodness indeed, would it not, my friend?" he chuckled in a low voice, and elbowed the much smaller kitsune jovially. Poking his complaining gut, he added, "And it would make more sense than giving the hungry dead only dates to eat. The dead crave blood, as well." The division between dead and undead was not, perhaps, as clear to him as other things.
Koshu can be convinced to help open the sarcophagus with a few "rituals to appease the Old Gods" for disturbing the dead. (He doesn't have Know:religion (yet), so pretty much anything that sounds right can convince him it's an appropriate ritual.) He'll wait for Torin/Kwin to say it's trap-free, though.
Ahmed Kharim |
"Boring story." Ahmed mutters with a sigh, reading the hieroglyphics. The battles had been keeping his mind and body occupied and now that they had ended, he was showing signs of restlessness. It was clear that he had hoped to find something. "Yes, dates, why not?" Ahmed replies to Koshu with a shrug, clearly barely listening. "They're delicious and healthy."
Suri Kanjariya |
Suri shoots Ahmed a look that's a mixture of annoyed and amused and rolls her eyes visibly. "Djehuti is right - it's not dates. Though the notion isn't far off." She cocks her head, pointing to the symbols on the wall. "It says that he treated his slaves well...." She pauses, "Seems a bit contradictory but okay... And that he should be rewarded in the afterlife." Blinking, she turns from the wall and shakes her head. "Silly creatures of this world, why are you all so concerned with the next life?"
Kwin Longclaw |
"Hmm? Scratch? What?" Kwin looks down at his hand and frowns in puzzlement, as if seeing it for the first time. "Oh..."
Torin Ironbeard |
Izra tapped Kwin's scratching hand. "Don't scratch," she murmured.
"Torin, will you look over the sarcophagus, please?"
Torin will check the sarcophagus and platform for shenanigans, "Seems a little too easy..."

He was still checking the platform when she spoke... Time is sort of a wibbly - wobbly kinda thing, don'tcha know? ;-)
Djehuti |
Djehuti nods at Koshu. "A few centuries in this life," for an elf, at least, "eternity once we have been judged and assigned our duties in the afterlife. It would be stranger if we did not think about what comes next."
wicked_raygun |
Ahmed opens up the sarcophagus and finds a preserved corpse, and alongside it a mummified cat.
Everyone who believes their character would have been within 20 feet of the sarcophagus, please roll me DC 13 Will Save (fear based).
Ahmed Kharim |
Will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Ahmed jumps back from the sarcophagus, almost falling over as he steps rapidly backwards away from the sight and smell. Swearing in a combination of Ignan and Ancient Orisani, he doesn't stop backing up until he runs out of room. With his back to the wall, he takes several deep breaths, eyeing the tomb as though it's a rabid dog.
