"Human shield," Kwin pants as Torin walks away. "If I had the energy right now, I'd bite you."
Then he chuckles. "No, strike that. The mere thought of what you'd taste like is turning my stomach."
Djehuti |
Djehuti looks over Torin's shoulder at his finds. "May I see that potion?" He shakes the vial, holds it up to the light, turning it back and forth, then gingerly uncorks it and sniffs at it before corking it again. "I think this would allow someone to grow to huge size." He looks over at Koshu and Kwin. "One of you would probably benefit most from this."
Koshukhep |
"My family has said that I am large enough, at least at mealtimes," Koshukhep chuckled. "But if you do not wish to grow to a proper size, friend Kwin, then I will take it." He flicked rot grub ichor off his paws, then reached down to help haul Kwin to his feet.
Looking around, he grunted. "Where shall we go next? The Hall of Spiders? The Hungry Sandworm Nest? Bah. There is no honor to be had in destroying vermin, only slime and itchy bites. Let us search for Ahmed's artifact and be done with it."

There is one more room to be discovered in the western courtyard you're currently in. And then of course, there's the second floor of the mansion. I believe the original plan was to finish the courtyard, leaving the second floor for last. So I'll be going with that.
Good, god - it's 95 degrees where I am right now. I'm typing with a sheen of sweat. This is nuts.
Ahmed has assured me that he'll be playing soon. He's just swamped at the moment. So I'll GMPC him for now.
New post with map coming soon.

A rectangular stone building sits in the northwest corner of the estate. At each corner stand columns carved to resemble men and women with their arms crossed over their chests. A set of stone doors stands in the southern face of the building, carved with bas-relief faces of two men. Hieroglyphs are carved into the doors just beneath the faces.
The Ancient Osiriani hieroglyphs identify the building as the “crypt of the House of Pentheru” and warn, “May defilers be cursed by the gods until their day of judgment.”

Koshu can have the potion. If Kwin doesn't want the sword, I'll put it on the loot list.
Looking at the door, "Anyone able to read this stuff?"

"But if you do not wish to grow to a proper size, friend Kwin, then I will take it."
"That's mighty big of you Kosh, but size works against my fancy footwork. I think that potion will serve you better."
"What are you talking about. I'm delicious. Full of sugar and spice and everything nice. You want this pig sticker? It's a little too fancy for me."
"'That's what little girls are made of.' I always suspected as much," Kwin chuckles under his breath as he accepts the rapier, giving it few experimental sweeps and jabs. "Nice balance, good flex on the blade. It's worth keeping. Thanks."
As he stows it, the kitsune squints at the pictograms. "You're kidding, right?"
Koshukhep |
Just realized I didn't update Koshu's languages for that rank of Linguistics he took. Fixed!
"The old meanings come back to me, slowly," Koshu rumbled, squinting at the hieroglyphs as well. "This is the crypt. 'May defilers be cursed by the gods until their day of judgment.'"
He took a step back, his hand going to the charm that dangled from around his neck. "We aren't defilers, are we?" he asked, his eyes flicking about nervously. "We're... we're... er..." He trailed off, unable to put a pretty face on what they were doing. "The church sanctioned this," he finished lamely, obviously not even convincing himself.
Izra Kayal |
"We are doing the Church's work, which happens to coincide with our own mission of freeing Ahmed, remember?" Izra patted Koshu on the shoulder. "While we will be intruding, as you saw in our last location, friend Koshu, we will not be defiling. If we left this place to others - like Falto and his friends - there is no telling what would happen here. 'Defilement' is likely to be an understatement. Though I doubt those who left these warnings will be as appreciative of the distinction."
Torin Ironbeard |
"Ha! Wait till you meet my sister!"
Hearing that it was ok to at least poke inside the crypt, Torin pokes about the door for any signs of traps.

Room B26
The Band descends the stairs and finds that a stone altar sits upon a raised stone platform in the center of this square room. Caryatid columns carved in the likenesses of male and female figures with their arms crossed over their chests and khopeshes or ankhs in their hands stand at each corner of the platform. Empty torch holders are built in all four of the room’s corners. Two stairways exit the room— one climbs to the south, while the other descends from this chamber to the north.
In the northern part of the room, you see what looks like a mummy. It raises its arm and moves to attack you.

Since she doesn't act until after the creature, this is just fluff and intent. It would be bad to throw fire if it gets into melee range, for example. :-)

The Adherer moans as Djehuti's bottle of Alchemist fire splashes against him. The fire seems to be quite effective.
Suri moves into position and defends herself. The adherer moves toward the eidolon and unleashes a vicious slam. Despite her preparations, the adherer's attack smashes past Suri's defenses. She screams as its sticky flesh adheres to her. Grappled.

Kwin looks at Torin doubtfully, but prepares to lob the flask. Rats, I didn't realize Kwin was so far away, that'd be a -4 range penalty from where he is. Add firing into melee and it'd be hopeless.
Bobbing back and forth trying to get a clear shot between Torin and Koshukhep -- and past Ahmed and Suri -- he spits a Kitsune curse, grabs the straps of his pack with his free hand, and dashes off around the platform.
From the description it sounds like there's no way across the altar, so he's taking a 20' encumbered move counter-clockwise around the outside.
Izra Kayal |
Izra held her flask of fire, but did not hurl it into the fray. Much as Kwin had discovered, Izra was sure that she wouldn't be able to actually hit the enemy from where she stood.
Instead, she made her way down the stairs, looking for an opening. While she looked, she placed a hand upon Torin's shoulder, blessing the dwarf with divine guidance.

One of Torin's arrows hits the Adherer, but doesn't penetrate deeply. The other seems to have gotten caught up in its sticky mass and hangs oddly. Koshukhep also manages to sink an arrow, but if the disgusting creature felt any pain, he didn't show it.

Unable to get an unobstructed view from where she was, Izra circled around to her right, until she had a clear shot. As she moved, she tapped into her connection to the Lady of Fate, in the hopes that some glimpse of the future would help her in the fight.
