Oh, yeah. I have ZERO problems with 1st-level characters being relatively inept (they're not much more than the kid fresh off the farm, in most cases). I just didn't realize that I'd made her quite as useless in a fight as I had.
It's fun. I *love* RP. I'm wishing I had just a little more time to spend on showing off her character. That'll come. :-)
Which is why she campaigned for the shield. I think she DOES have the best AC (especially if she drops a SoF on herself) if she uses a shield. And having someone in the party that's a hard-to-hit target, whether she's doing damage or not, is nice. Create Water is her equivalent of a frying pan (for those of us who can remember a certain red-haired bar maid...).
This group is excellent! :-)

Kwin Longclaw |

I never had the pleasure of crossing that particular path, but the game Kwin 1.0 was in featured a serving girl who was "a force with which to be reckoned":
"Threat Detected, Step Down Sir or Face Immed-"
At that moment a dwarf can be seen flying through the air, and lands unceremoniously on a table with humans seated around it, spilling drinks everywhere. The two warforged run over to the table to assist their owner.
The waitress looks at the three who were coming to her assistance. "Mighty thoughtful of you boys but I think I got it covered for th-"
"YOU SODDY B@**#!!" The waitress narrowly dodges a tankard that goes wizzing by her head.
Sigh. That was a fun game as far as it went -- the original Kwin was more of a carouser and not alcohol-tolerant like our Version 2.0, and he had a wonderful foil and snarky straight man in his warforged bodyguard (think Bruce Wayne's Alfred, or the cinematic Iron Man's JARVIS). It was a shame seeing the game grind to a halt. But that's a fact of PbP life, so... oh well!
The New and Improved Kwin might not be as much fun at a party, but I think he'll be a better ally, and this is a solid group with competent writers/RPers. I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes!

Izra Kayal |

Just out of curiosity, did anyone grab that MW spear? Cause I just realized that Izra actually knows how to use that (though it's two-handed, and the shield is probably a better use of that hand...)
But if someone brings it, it's a weapon she'll know how to use in a pinch.

Kwin Longclaw |

Sounds very cool and I'm enjoying the one "modern day" character I'm running in a Lovecraftian homebrew (and he doesn't even have a smartphone let alone a car, hah).
Sadly I've had zero exposure to Savage Worlds (I know you commented in the recruitment thread that's immaterial, but...)
In other news, Kwin didn't grab the spear -- no proficiency.

Kwin Longclaw |

Kwin falls to the ground, gasping and dying.
Ya know Ray, if you want me in your Savage Worlds game that badly, you could have just asked nicely. :op
And you're correct on the spear. The funky Swashbuckler "Weapon Finesse for light or one-handed piercing weapons; Combat Expertise uses CHA" thing is messing with my head, I think.

wicked_raygun |

Actually, the way that Swashbuckler's finesse reads, it seems to imply that you could use a short spear as a finesse weapon. Granted I've never been particularly partial to RAW. It tends to lead to far too much goofiness. Guess we'll wait for an Errata or such from Paizo.
Or presumably it would have been addressed in the Play Test.
Anyone know when the ACG drops, by the way. My wife has fallen in love with her new Hunter character.

Sorry for the delay. Had a busy day yesterday.

And they've firewalled RDP at work so I'm now strictly read-only until I get home in the evenings.
(Wow, deja vu...)

Ahmed Kharim |

Not sure how you want to handle this, Ahmed, so I didn't just go ahead and use a CLW on her. Since the Summoner/Eidolon RAW says Suri is supposed to disappear whenever you're asleep, I would normally assume that we'd all know a bit about the relationship, but since Suri ostensibly was the one who found/hired the group (or at least one or two of us - including Izra), while Ahmed was "asleep" in his prison, I wasn't sure if/how the rules have been modified, and whether those modifications affect our decisions/ability to heal Suri.
Yeah, I'm going to use Rejuvenate Eidolon and do a whole "power share" thing with them. The actual rules aren't changing, though, so whatever normally applies to Eidolons still works here. I'm only refluffing it. In this particular instance, don't worry about healing her, but I certainly don't have a problem with it in the future. :) God knows she's far more valuable than Ahmed is, hah.
Ahmed himself would have, as a young D'jinn, spent a lot of time here and taken a great interest in this world, which is why he's (semi) knowledgeable about the old gods. This is what would have lead to his capture.

So, my only question then would be to wonder how you're handling the part of the rule that states, "If the summoner is unconscious, asleep, or killed, his eidolon is immediately banished."
I'm perfectly cool with Suri being around 24/7 (more advantage for us!), but I'm not the DM. I was just wondering if she "goes home" at night (whether Ahmed knows it or not), or if that's been changed/swapped for another power/etc (isn't there a Feat that allows that?). Just so that Izra and the others know what to expect, since we've probably been around long enough to see what happens.
(I really like the idea from before that Suri was a free and independent Djin before we found Ahmed, and that the ritual we used to free him bound them together/turned her into an Eidolon. That covers all the "she didn't disappear while we were searching for him" stuff, while creating all kinds of potential for RP angst. :-D ).
Sorry if I'm nosing in to areas not my official business. Just wondering, and thinking aloud, I suppose.

Ahmed Kharim |

How do you mean as a curse? I'm definitely open to that idea. I'm basically making this all up as I go anyway.
I'm also obviously super into the idea of it being dramatic for him.
I didn't expect this AP to start off quite so dungeon-crawly. I'm going to work harder in the coming x posts to make Ahmed interact with people more. He's been kind of a recluse so far.

wicked_raygun |

Djehuti goes over to scrape the toe of his boot through the heap of sand that was the sandling. "Interesting. Is this a bound defender or an opportunist?" He mutters to himself as he pulls out his notebook to jot down a description of the creature and their encounter.
No real well for your characters to know, but the guide does say that the Sandling got in through the crack in the room.

Well, from what I understood of your backstory, it seemed like it was Suri who touched your Urn first. You could use that as a Curse of the Pharaoh type device and now the two of you are tied in a weird way. And without you, Suri is basically untethered to this plane and sent somewhere else, that she cannot recall when she returns. A little mystery gives you room to resolve it later, possibly tying it into the adventure. It also makes it a bit terrifying.

Holly hell!
I'm not complaining, but I think that's like 3 Nat-20 Perception checks for her now. I have the uncomfortable feeling that I'm gonna wind up paying for that later.

Kwin Longclaw |

I posted an "all clear" intentionally because I want Kwin to be tentative with spotting stuff. GM, if there actually IS a trap that he would have seen, he'll do a "No, wait, stop!" amendment as something odd barely happens to catch his eye after the fact.

Kwin Longclaw |

Ummm... did someone move the snake? Because when I checked the map last night, it was where Kwin is currently standing, and Suri was standing at the foot of the sarcophagus, not on it - which would have made it impossible for Kwin to 5' diagonally into the room, because of the hard corner at the doorway, and thus, Kwin would have had to move, which would have (presumably) provoked an AoO from the snake...
I think the entire map (base layer) moved beneath the avatars. When I brought it up for my move, everyone was off-center, positioned almost exactly on the intersections of the squares. I repositioned the map; vertical was obvious since we were all in the hall/tunnel and there was only one workable position. Horizontal was a toss-up, and I might have zigged it when I should have zagged.
I'm happy (well, "willing") to take an AoO if that's the appropriate thing. Or we can retcon.

Ahmed Kharim |

I forget what we're doing for HP - whether it's averages or rolls or what, but otherwise:

Koshukhep |

Ray, I've got a question for you: If I take the Natural Weapon combat style for Koshu and get Improved Natural Weapon, would it apply to the claw blades I plan to get for him later? The text of the feat does say, "a weapon or attack" at one point. As I understand it, claw blades just enhance the claws you've already got.
I just want to make sure it's worth spending feats on his natural weapons, since I intend him to stay a claw fighter.

Rasp the Rogue |

Ahmed - We're doing half +1 for HP.
Koshukhep - Man, the wording on claw blades is just horribly unclear, isn't it? I did a quick search online, and my head is just spinning. For the sake of sanity. I'm going to rule that claw blades count both as a natural attack AND a light slashing wrapon. I think that was the intent. And even if it's not, I'm going with it. Because it simplifies the hell out of that mess.
EDIT - Which is to say, yes, you can use it to qualify for Feats like improved natural attack.

Level 2 Update
+1 BAB
+1 Will Saves
Skill Ranks (+1): Appraise; Diplomacy; Heal; Know: Arcana, Planes, Religion
+5 HP
New Spells: 0-Level: Detect Magic; 1st Level(Mystery): Identify
Just throwing this out there, but if the group would prefer, she could take Enhanced Diplomacy instead of Detect Magic. Being able to grant +2 to Diplomacy or Intimidate checks for herself or any other diplomats in the crew could be more helpful than a third person in the group having DM. But that said, if she's Detecting Magic at will, that means one of you lot can prepare something more useful in that cantrip slot each day so, really, either one is fine by me. Just keep in mind that she's never going to have a really high Spellcraft. I had intended her to be our Knowledge, Appraisal and Diplomacy/Negotiation person. Healing and identifying magic items are secondary functions (though, without a primary healer, that does creep up to a "1b" function).

Izra Kayal |

As far as loot goes, she'll toss the MW Khopesh and the Holy Symbol back into the pile for sale (though she'll suggest that they'll get a higher price for the latter from the church).
I suspect the shield will prove useful, so unless someone objects, she'll probably keep that. Having a free CLW to use on herself once per day is nice, and frees up one of her spells for the rest of you.
On the other hand, we could probably sell it for 2200gp or so, and buy her a regular ol' +1 Shield and a Wand of CLW, and still have some change left over. We just wouldn't have the anti-bug protection.
I'm open to suggestions.

I'm not a prepared caster, so I'll always have Detect Magic available whether you take it or not. I think Enhanced Diplomacy would definitely be more useful, but I don't mind either way.

Torin Ironbeard |

lvl 2:
7hp
+1 Bab
+1 Saves (all)
+1 skills (Acro, climb, perc, SM, stealth, survival)
Bonus feats: PBS, weapon focus (longbow)
@Izra:Keep it if you want. I'm not all that much stickler of loot distribution and I would rather see the thematic stuff used than sold.
Does anyone want the armour?

Izra Kayal |

Hey Karl,
Any input on whether I give Izra Detect Magic or Enhanced Diplomacy? I'm leaning towards ED right now, as I had forgotten that Ahmed is a spontaneous caster.

Djehuti |

Craft: Drawing: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 Or if you'll let him use his Knowledge: Engineering instead, on the logic that studying engineering means you know how to draw blueprints and maps...
Knowledge: Engineering: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17 Or if it can't substitute for the Craft check, maybe it could Aid his craft check, adding 2 to the result?
I think ED sounds best. There are other people who can cover Detect Magic but nobody else has the Diplomancy like Izra.
