I was thinking about the small problem of "what the heck ties the PCs together" lately, and it just so happens a friend of mine finished DM'ing a Play-By-Email I was involved in. I invited him to the game, as Osric. I want to keep the narrative plausible, and I think Osric will be a good way to keep you all plausibly together now and then.
As Miner said, I just finished up a play by email campaign and I'm eager to engage as a PC again. While I am experienced with the Pathfinder system, I've never been active on the forums, so please have some patience if I commit a faux pas.
As for Osric, obviously I won't be able to fully replicate his style from the last PC. I'm chalking that up to trauma / brain damage from his strangulation incident. Being cut off from air seems like one of the most traumatic things one could do to a Slyph.
RP-wise, he's now far less interested in wandering off on his own and being a one-elen crusader, but rather is focused on rallying people to his cause to drive change in the system.
Mechanically, this means he's going to be far less interested in stabbing things himself. Miner authorized a mechanical re-working of Osric to suit my tastes, and I've invested heavily in improving his ability to aid another. He can provide +4 instead of +2, and he can help up to three separate rolls per round.
I look forward to joining the narrative at your discretion and Miner's timing.
I have a question, perhaps apropos of nothing, for Miner. Do elenoid shaped darkspawn count as Type: elenoid, Subtype: darkspawn, or are all darkspawn classified as aberrations (or something else)?
So you all know, in addition to finals it looks like I've come down with a bout of pneumonia - the combination has run me pretty ragged, especially since I really don't have time to spend a few hours at the doctor's right now. My posting will be minimal at best for the rest of the week.
Since the events of late seem to be coming from organized crime, I'd like to get a feel for how much Osric knows about the various gangs in the Dims...
Osric: you don't know exactly how Grosso was wounded, but it's a fair bet if had something to do with the rioting last night - he was possibly at Brightfield Arena when the trouble started, or he got caught up in the general melee around the Dims afterwards.
Growdim, Garden Street, Cleaver Street: these are all part of the "main street" of the Dims, which is kept in much better shape than the rest of the district. It is well-patrolled, and there is little gang activity. The Coal of the Dims can be found on this route as well.
Steam Slums: half owned by Misters (not really a gang), half owned by the Gasp dealers that deal from here (name unknown)
Flowdim, Garbage Alley: The Blisters Ifrit smugglers and scavengers who can stand the heat of nearby River and its boiling temperature.
Salt Street, Cast-Offs: The Turfteeth. Two-tiered oread group consisting of 1) the well-dressed ones that negotiate protection contracts and 2) the muscular ones who act either as bodyguard or enforcer, depending on who has paid.
Everywhere: there is an assortment of beggars, thieves, and cutpurses in the Dims that don't necessarily fall into any of these groups. That would be one reason to get a Turftooth bodyguard.
If this ifrit is calling himself "Capo", he probably operates out of the Eastern Marketplace.
Seeing a fire-hound like this is about as rare as seeing a fire elemental. It's not literally impossible, but it hasn't happened outside the Temple in generations (as far as you know).
I can't remember if I ever mentioned this before, but I rarely use "standard" creatures from the Beastiary, so knowledge checks are always good for getting the scoop on abilities.
Sorry, been posting across all my threads, I've had a crap week of family issues, and I'm somewhat prone to depression, so I've kinda just crashed out of society for a few days. Getting back together now and trying to catch up.
I'm making the assumption that we're on a small hiatus over Memorial Day weekend. If I see posts, I'll probably respond to them, otherwise see everyone in a few days!
Paizo.com is currently having a lot of trouble loading for me, to the point where I can't access it for hours at a time. Doing my best to keep up, but feel free to bot me if it becomes a problem.
Aside from the common legends (Volcano punished the efreeti eons ago for some betrayal; this punishment destroyed or banished them, and shattered every ruby in the land), here is what you recall as some of the more "reliable" information regarding efreets:
--Their tempers and mood-swings are legendary, even compared to the most rage-filled ifrit. Part of their downfall was their inability to work together or stay focused on long-term plans.
--Their lusts are also well known - in particular, they become obsessed with one maiden that they usually end up discarding or killing when they lose interest
--They are immune to fire, and command powerful fire magics (including the summoning of elementals)
--Unfortunately, you still have no idea how an efreet could possibly be roaming the streets and summoning elementals without making a bigger impact on the city. The efreets of the old tales would have burned down half of the Dims if someone looked at them the wrong way
Weekends are usually a slower time - could everyone give a quick consensus on Osric's plan? If I get two agrees, I'll post on Saturday. If I get it at least seconded, I'll post on Sunday.
Disagrees are fine too - the other two obvious options I see are either "stay and fight here, at least we can see" or "get the hell out as fast as possible"
They don't need to be mutually exclusive. If the old man wanted to slip out to safety, we could stand in here and fight where we can see while the misters flanked him from behind and cut off his escape.
My main goal with the impersonation would be to taunt the heck out of him to goad him into a tactically unsound position.
Odebie would prefer to stay here - he's worse than useless out in the corridors. I'll try and post to that effect sometime tomorrow; in between helping my roommate move out and a friend's 21st.
I'll put up a map later tonight. There is only north and south, and you came from the south. This means little to you in the grand scheme of things, as the path was foggy and circuitous.
