Oriana Zeru
While waiting in the shadows but still close enough to see both Zeriax and Ryu, Oriana lays a hand at her side and very quietly casts Shield of Faith on herself.
Oriana's AC is now 16 for 2 minutes.
Ryu Tadamasa
Ryu glances over his shoulder and watches Pakak move up to use his spell to aid all of the nobles in the far rear via a small burst and then he notices that Oriana uses her spell on herself before she moves hard into battle.
He looks at them both for the briefest of moments, than shrugs and moves over to X:8.
Oriana Zeru
Can Ryu see either of those things in the dark and at the distance he is from the others? He's human, right? And we have no light shining because we're trying to be stealthy. Or has Ryu activated his Darkvision scale?
Ryu Tadamasa
Last I saw Ryu used the scale once today. Also, Anevia cast light on an arrow amongst the group in the back.
The back mongrelman is the one behind the second barrier at AC,11
Correct indeed - I did activate the scale earlier. But now that I know which guy has the bow and go to AB:9 at this point.
Thank you for the coordinates :)
Zeriax
Meh, Zeriax missed :/ Need 2 more levels - GOGO!! We are still finishing the surprise round correct?
Sir Garith Mordrand
|
Garith moves up 20 ft to Z:0 i guess.
If it's not too late i'd have liked to be in front of the Nobles while Pakak was behind them, in which case i'd be able to be 10ft further. not a very good tank if I'm in the back and never make it to Melee =P
DM Variel
Got you moved up another 10 feet Sir Garith.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
1d8 ⇒ 2
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Round 1...
Taken somewhat by surprise the mongrel men guards react quickly. The northernmost guard moves to the door and does a rhythmic pounding. The mongrelman to the south brings up his lit crossbow and fires it at Ryu. His aim is off and the bolt careens down the passageway by Horgus. I thought I told you to protect me. Not let them shoot at me. Get going!! No, missed shots can't hit something else. It was just for flavor.
The last mongrelman takes a solid position between the barricades and hefts the club with both hands swinging at Ryu's face. Ryu sees the attack in plenty of time and easily ducks beneath the blow.
Good guys up...
Maelchar
You forgot to move Maelchar to AA-2, his 5' step from the surprise round... I will start counting my move from that square though
Maelchar runs forward, ending near Ryu, ready to attack next round if any mongrelmen are still up and fighting.
ending my move at AA8
Sir Garith Mordrand
|
Garith will Delay until Zeriax moves and then Chaaaarge to Z:19 and take a slash with his Shortsword
1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 2 = 18
for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
this round AC is 18 for charge
Zeriax
Zeriax moves a single step to the side, letting two arrows fly in quick succession at the mongrelman fighting Ryu.
Flurry 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6
Flurry 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
Oriana Zeru
Garith, there is no Z:19 (the map only goes to Z:14). Did you mean Z:9? Just trying to figure where you charged to, please.
Seeing her kinsmen move forward and close in to Ryu and the two mongrelmen on him, Oriana sheathes her magical morningstar and draws her longbow and stealthily moves to stand beside Zeriax at Y:4 and nocks an arrow.
How tall are the barricades, DM?
Zeriax
I'm sure Garith meant Z9 ;)
Ryu Tadamasa
Ryu glances up at the creature slobbering above him.
"Hellooo legs," he says with a fierce growl.
His body quickly fills with a deep breath and he feels himself swell with a sense of heat that elevates him into a Zen-like stage of combat...
Free action for Rage
He stabs his rapier up toward the creature's lower body.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
If it hits
1d6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 2 = 4
DM Variel
Oriana, Zeriax mentioned that he sidestepped to allow Sir Garith to pass. I put him then at Y:4 and yourself at Z:4. I hope that arrangement works for you as you indicated you wanted to be next to him.
With some deft maneuvering this round Pakak and Maelchar position themselves to where they feel they will be most useful in the coming rounds. Pakak in defending the charges and Maelchar in dealing viscious blows to the enemy. Oriana likewise moves upwards drawing her bow to shoot next round.
Zeriax takes 2 quick shots with his bow but fails to connect on either of them at the bandit in the back with the crossbow.
Sir Garith and Ryu gang up on the bandit in melee both drawing blood. Ryu in a frenzy of rage manages to strike his blow while Sir Garith ops for melee prowess instead of defense the tactic works by both both but the mongrel man takes both blows stoically and does not drop.
2d4 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 3 - 4 = 0
1d8 ⇒ 7
1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 6 - 4 = 20 +4 AC from cover
1d6 ⇒ 3
Round 2:
The mongrelman at the door quits hammering and turns to Sir Garith. With a howl he charges the paladin only to see his blow be turned aside by the armor or Sir Garith. Sir Garith is not as lucky with the second attack coming at him from the damaged mongrelman as it connects past the shield in the reckless charge. 8 points of damage from the club
The crossbowman in the back reloads and shoots at Zeriax. His aim is off completely as the bolt hits the barricade 5t in front of him.
Good guys up...
Anevia moves up 15 feet and targets the charging mongrelman. With a well placed shot the arrow hits the creature in the chest for 3 damage. Horgus remains where he is unless instructed to move forward as Zeriax and Oriana have a protective wall in front of him. Aravashinal hears the combat and casts a quick spell to protect himself from any harm. mage armor
Maelchar
Maelchar moves (to AC9) and attacks the mongrelman before him (at AC11).
to hit[1d20+2[/dice: 1d6d3d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 4, 5, 1, 3, 5, 6, 5, 4, 2, 1) + 1 = 40
Pakak
It seems constantly protecting the charges means I often leave my companions to fight alone. It's starting to sour my stomach.
"Stay together..., please." he tells the three, and moves forward.
Going to AA1. Can he see the mongrelmen from there?
Oriana Zeru
Z:4 works for me, Thanks, DM. Sorry about missing the part about Zeriax moving.
Oriana aims her bow at the mongrelman at AA:10 and shoots.
Ranged attack with long bow: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 2 - 4 = 13
Damage, if hits: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Maelchar
well crap, I really fouled up that post somehow... I guess I formatted it wrong... here goes again...
to hit: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
dmg if hits: 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 1, 2) + 1 = 7
crit confirm: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
addl dmg if confirmed: 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 2, 4) + 1 = 9
Sir Garith Mordrand
|
hopefully the other two have this mongrrel dealt with... Garith makes another thrust with his Shortsword, (if Ryu and Mal and co were able to drop the one at AA:10) at the enemy that charged him, leaving himself vulnerable to attack, though the force of the blow leads the Paladin to be more cautious, Fighting Defensively.
1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 5 - 4 = 17
for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
He then drops his Short sword and after placing his hand on his chest, draws his Scimitar
LoH: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Var, would I need a Light Shield or can I use LoH with my heavy shield? I figure i'll pass on the TWF this fight anyway, but for future fights, i can use it as a swift action on myself but it ays free hand, which iirc i can at least do with a light shield. If i can do it with a Heavy, at least on yself that'd be ideal tho... =shrug=
Standard: attack fighting defensively
Free to drop sword
Swift to LoH
Move to draw Scimitar
Current AC=22
HP=17
DM Variel
Pakak you can see the enemy at Y:10.
Oriana where is the +2 damage from on the bow attack? Its midnight so I probably am missing something myself. with the cover from the barricade the shot misses though.
Ryu you manage to drop the mongrel man with your attack.
Maelchar, i was wondering about that formatting the first time I saw it. You did hit but not crit.
Sir Garith, you could use LoH with a light shield but not a heavy shield. As it is you could use a weapon cord to drop weapon as free, heal as swift and move to grab weapon again. I would allow that.
Oriana Zeru
Okay, my mistake. I added my +2 for strength (but it should have been +3) but forgot that is just for composite longbows. I will remedy the error on my sheet. Sigh.
Maelchar
not just composite longbows - but it has to be a specially made composite longbow (made for a +2 strength - every composite bow has a strength rating, and unless you pay extra for it, it defaults to a +0, regardless of what your strength is
Zeriax
Seeing the mongrelman next to Ryu go down, Zeriax refocuses his attention, taking one step forward, and aiming at the foe immediately ahead, his bow working furiously.
Moving to Y5. Flurry of arrows on the mongrelman in Y10
Flurry 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3
Flurry 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4
Oriana Zeru
Oriana takes a 5 ft step to Z:5 and nocks another arrow and shoots at the mongrelman at Y:10.
Ranged Attack with longbow: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 1 - 4 = 3
Damage, if hits: 1d8 ⇒ 8
But the barricade proves too difficult again and the arrow goes astray.
Ryu Tadamasa
Ah - okay. I'm not sure how fast I can move over 4 feet of heaped rock, as Climb is 1/4 movement I guess that means if I move 4 feet it is like when I move 16 feet? I don't know... I also don't know if I have the space for a running jump, either.
That said, I think I'm going to drop flat on the ground in the lee of the rock ledge via cover and drop my rage to conserve it for later; trusting to Garith and that the archer can't reach over the 4 foot wall to shoot me beneath it.
Dropping down to recover my rage and rest hoping the wall offers me cover.
DM Variel
Ryu growls in some barbaric language lending aid to his swing and fells the mongrel man before him. Dropping his rage and to the ground for protection he pants with exertion. [raged for 2 rounds so fatigued till your round 7]
Ryu steps up with his mighty hammer and swings at the crossbowman behind the barrier. What he thought may have been a decisive and killing blow was defelcted slightly by the confounding barricade before him. The blow still landed but was not as telling as he thought originally.
Pakak keeps the others together and protected ensuring that they get paid well after this whole ordeal.
Oriana and Zeriax fire at the bandit attacking Sir Garith but only 1 arrow of the 3 hits. Not to be outdone, Garith flies into a frenzy of motion attacking the mongralman while healing himself at the same time. The flurry of motion worked as he hit his foe hard but to no avail. With 2 arrows and a slash to the rib cage the mongrel man still stands.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
1d8 ⇒ 8
1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 6 - 4 = 6 +4 AC
1d6 ⇒ 3
Round 3...
Continuing his assault on Sir Garith, the mongrel man lifts the cluba gain but can not time it right and misses his target by a wide margin. the crossbowman fares no better as he tries to use the cover of the barricade to protect himself as he shoots at Maelchar. The bolt flies wide and shatters against the stone wall behind Maelchar.
Anevia continues her shooting advance aiming at the target on Sir Garith. Her shot misses as she tried to avoid Sir Garith's upraised shield.
Don't forget to keep track of arrows used and shots missed. You may need to find your arrows if you run out. 50% chance on any missed arrow to find it unbroken.
Maelchar
I think you mean Maelchar, not Ryu, in paragraph two above... just sayin'
Maelchar again swings his hammer at the mongrelman traitor on the far side of the barrier.
to hit: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

The monk continues the assault - his sense of discipline apparently making him oblivious to anything but the fight.
Another flurry at the mongrelman in AB11.
Flurry of Arrows 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3
Flurry of Arrows 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7

Pakak
Pakak moves closer still to get a better view,Y3? and then unleashes a bolt of mystic energy which seems to weave around his allies like a living thing before striking a mongrel man.
Magic Missile, on AB11 if he can see it, or 710 if he can't
dmg: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
DM Variel
Mid round update...
Zeriax slams another arrow into the mongrelman at the same time that sir Garith connects with his new weapon. The two attacks combine to drop the enemy.
Maelchar swings at the crossbowman again but the hammer just catches the hardened skin and fails to do any real damage. Pakak brings the others forward and unleashes a bolt of pure force catching the crossbowman in the chest.
Zeriax
As the arcane energy soars past him at their enemies, Zeriax nods in appreciation of the group's efficiency - and at how, without a single word exchanged, they are managing an admirable coordination.
Oriana Zeru
Taking a deep breath and stepping 5 ft to Z:6, Oriana refocuses her aim at the mongrelman at AB:11 and nocking an arrow, shoots.
Ranged Attack with bow: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 2 - 4 = 7
Damage, if hits: 1d8 ⇒ 8
And once again, the barricade proves difficult and her arrow goes astray.
3 arrows used out of 21 (20 common and 1 raining arrow)
DM, please note, previously I was using the wrong bonus to attack. It should be +2. I'm getting confused between my characters.
DM Variel
Looking back Oriana the 1 difference would not have made a difference. Much closer but not a hit yet.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
1d8 ⇒ 2
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 +4AC
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
With a combined effort of arrows, magic, and melee weapons the group is slowly eliminating the mongelmen before them. The only foe left is the crossbowman behind the last barricade.
Round 4:
Stepping back away from Maelchar the mongrelman brings up the crossbow and aims it at the paladin using the cover provided to prevent Maelchar from hitting him. The bolt slams into the breastplate before shattering doing no damage to the holy warrior.
Anevia steps up to fire another arrow at the stubborn foe but her arrow imbeds itself into the barricade like so many of Zeriax and Oriana's.
Maelchar
Just checked the map and he's still within reach of my hammer from where he is... chuckle
Maelchar
Maelchar again tries to slam the mongrelman with his hammer.
he's just 10' away, and the hammer is a reach weapon, and has 10' reach, so the hammer should be in range - but if not for some reason, Maelchar WILL step to where he can hit him from

Sir Garith Mordrand

I don't know the state of the cover, if i can 5' step and not have to deal with the cover, but if the mongrelman has is cover then I'll move behind him. Can i diagonally move from Z:9 to Y:10 as not to provoke then move around to Z:12 and slash him with the scimitar.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
for 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
DM Variel
Maelchar, he is within range for now but the barricade still is in the way for a miss unless your attack modifier is wrong at +1. If it is +3 then it would be a hit. Sir Garith, he has a crossbow so you can move without provoking if you would like. You would both have cover so I have you moving to Z:12. You hit without needing the flank provided by Maelchar but he is still up, barely. If Maelchar did hit with a +3 modifier then he drops.
