Venja points at the box and asks softly, "Mind if I ask about that belt? What is it and is it for sale as well?" She's got a curious streak in her...

Looking at Gabe as he indicates his interest in the armor, Indeed take your time if you need to come up with the money. I will be here with it unless someone else decides to purchase it in the meantime. Glad I have something on hand that you are interested in.

Turning to Venja with a smile in her eyes. Oh you saw that belt then. Well, again this is what the druid told me but he said that it would give the wearer an iron constitution and make one feel more hale and fit than ever before. If what he says it true then it is a bargain for only 4000gp. I have never tried it on myself as I am not one to dabble and try on magical items, but if you want, it is for sale. I should mention as well that the druid was a bit vain as he said that the belt was created to match perfectly with whatever clothing the owner possessed. Again, I never tried it on to see if it worked but he seemed quite the honest type. The leather belt as you can see now has a buckle that is in the shape of a bear's head.

Belt of mighty constitution +2

Would we be trading at half value or can we trade for full?
Beck is interested in the belt, and takes a look at it, "So a Drood is who yea got this from then? Mind if I try?" putting it on if she allows. "Well, still got my tail and my man-bits so i'm figurin it ain't cursed. Feels fair good too eh? Now yea ain't much interested in weapons yea said, but how's about for trade? an' goods what we may got?"

Trade value would be the same as sell value so half price.

Nodding her head that she is at least willing to let you try it on, she responds back to you. Your right that I do not have any need for weapons myself but if that is what you have to sell then I will at least look at what you got. Make me an offer then and bring what you have to the table and we will get this deal done.

Xanxan or anyone else have anything they want to do or go visit while shopping is being done or just wait till this is ended and leave as a group? You saw what she has to offer for nice items so if you want to make the purchases you can if not we can head somewhere else.

Nothing really screaming 'buy me' to Xanxan at this time.

Xanxan looks about discretely at the windows and exits just in case he ever gets in trouble in this place, but other than that is ready to go when the others are.

"We ready to go? Nice shop, but I fear there's little I need. I'm sure I"ll regret that later and think 'oh, I could have used that' but for now.." He shrugs.

"Aye, well, we'd like a moment ta take a look around an' such," Beck says, removing the belt. He then produces the Spear of Manhunting, "Now far as trade goes, we gots this magic spear what can root a man ta the ground. Good thing for defendin from raiders or what-forth, but if yer not interested we can likely count out coin."

I'd say we can move to another location and come back for the Belt and/or Armor, Or we can get the belt, and have less to trade with but may still be able to pick up something nice here, or come back for it alter?

In the meantime, as the proverbial ice-breaking seemed to have been successfully done, Helgash helps himself to some additional trail rations, placing them on the counter - "For the time being, I am taking these Miss Verana" - he reaches for his pouch, holding it in hand with a smile - "How much do I owe you?"

Taking 4 additional trail rations because I would be embarassed for not buying anything :D

Helgash I have you at a starting gold of 1000gp with no limits on what you could purchase with that amount. As Garith indicated, the rest have double that amount but have been very restricted on their equipment options up to this point.

Verana looks at you Beck and nods her head, Indeed that does seem like a valuable item if one knew how to weild it properly. I am afraid that I don't know anything about using one of those. If what you say is true though I will consider it strongly. How about 2000gp applied to the purchase of the armor or belt?

Give me a diplomacy check please DC: 18 to get 2200 for it, above normal selling cost as it may help defend herself as you suggest.

While waiting for Beck to make a counter proposal Verana tallies up the trail rations, That will be 2 gp then mister Helgash. And please do come back if there is something else that you would want to purchase or make an offer on.

Venja and Xanxan step out of Verana's sundries and notice that not many people are out and about at this time. Clearly they are all either home preparing lunch or out working at their jobs. As it is you feel as if you have the run of the town at the moment without having to worry about people following you.

Deal.

Helgash produces the two gold pieces, and siezes the chance to drop a hint at Verana - "Beck is a straight shooter. You can rest assured that his claims are bound to be honest and true" - even though he is not directly involved in the business, he tries to offer his assistance to the group who has so far accepted him in their midst.

Gabryjel glances long at Helgash, studying him.

He’s quick to sing our praises without knowing us well yet… it could be a sign of a lad ready to be a friend; or it could be someone trying to manipulate you all by playing you for fools… best watch him carefully… Time will show his true colors, but nothing says you can’t be prepared in the meanwhile…

He studies the Tiefling casually, but says nothing more at this time, content to merely observe...

Verana smiles and nods her head at the both of you. Alright, you convinced me that protecting myself and my daughter is worth the extra to you. I don't have that type of coin though but will credit your account on purchasing one of these items. Are we ready to do business or do you still need some time to come to some arrangement amongst yourselves?

Those outside, where do you want to head to or do? Spend time in the tavern, dig up a grave, scare townsfolk with weapons drawn at a tailors back door?

Verana smiles at th transaction, Nice doing business with you all. Please come again should you be needing anything. I still have this belt if you can find the coin or items in trade to make up the difference.

She tries to pick up the weapon and everyone can tell immediately that she has no clue what to do with it. With a small sigh, her daughter walks over and takes it from her. Here, mother, you hold it like this. Rally you should have Marcus show you next time I invite him over for dinner. It wouldn't hurt for you to show some interest in what he does at the Tower.

Beck, with what Variel has as his share, you can borrow it to purchase the belt if you want. Really, not that big of a deal to me at this time. I believe it should be enough to cover the difference.

Packing his rations, and moving out, Helgash offers a wink to Beck. Once they are outside, he addresses the group - "Nothing like some solid trade and bartering to make new acquaintances" - he comments - "Where to next for the remaining of your wares? That is, if you have any?"

Xanxan you manage to avoid being seen or heard as you make your way to the tavern. All you can see is the owner and his wife inside. It seems like they are talking about the new people in town but can't make out exactly what they are saying.

"Verana, do you mind if I ask you exactly who Marcus is and how I can get a chance to speak with him? You mentioned him earlier and said he does something at the Tower. Can you maybe elaborate a bit on that?"

She tries to be as sweet in her approach as she can to get more information out of the merchant.

It was the daughter but close enough.

The daughter nods to you Venja, as she glances towards her mother. My name is Milivsa. Marcus is my, well, he is...he and I have been seeing each other as of late. Milivsa finally manages to stammer out. He works at the Pale Tower as one of the guides into the forest. Being a guide and stationed there he got to know his way around weapons and was trained a bit by the guards. Whenever he is not on a tour of the forest leading the regular guards he comes to see me. Leaning in close to you Venja she whispers quietly trying to keep her mother from heating. Its been pretty steady as of late as it has been 2 years that we have been seeing each other. MOther doesn't know about the first year. I think he is seeing more of me and traveling to see me than actually at the Tower.

You can tell that the way Milivsa is beaming that she is head over heels for the guy and cant wait to marry him, if he ever gets around to asking that is.

Perhaps we can meet and talk."

Milivsa nods to you and blushes slightly. I don't know exactly when he will return next. If he is on a patrol then it could still be some days yet. If he is finished with his patrol and it was a short one I would expect him in a couple of days then. He has a scar on the side of his right cheek he got from a branch that whipped at him when he was riding on horseback. That way you tell who he is and ask him if you see him.

Thinking that she has you duped Katrina sits down and places a drink in front of you and a drink in front of herself. Before she takes the drink though she looks back at Emil who is standing in front of a very large ornate mirror. While her attention is diverted you manage to slip the drinks around before she can even notice. Turning back to you she rises her glass and offers a toast. To the peace and quiet of this place.

Tossing the drink back a look of surprise dances in her eyes before it is replaced with a vacant expression. You are pretty certain that she is under a spell designed for you.

sense motive 15:

In fact you believe that should you suggest any course of action at the moment she would carry it out to the best of her ability as if under a suggestion spell.

Emil at the bar looks on closely watching to see what the reaction is from you. Neither hand can be seen at the moment as they are below the level of the bar. Perhaps cleaning the glasses as you hit a slight tink sound.

Then he says in a slightly monotone voice but still directed at Katrina, "This is nice. I'm glad you're my friend, Katrina. I'm glad you're willing to help us."

Katrina just stares at you for a bit befo nodding her head. [b]Yes, being friends is nice. As such I would suggest you leave now before trouble finds you. Things have a way of being found out and problems surface when you least expect it. Pus people don't like strangers around here. It gets them all worried and scared something is going to upset their delicate way of life.

Xanxan make a perception roll please and a sense motive at the same time on Emil.

I hope that there aren't too many additions we could have bought from the blacksmith. When we got to town I wanted one thing - a +2 Composite MW Longbow. It's not even a magical item, but I was told the spending limit was capped beneath that, so I couldn't buy it, or pretty much any of the stuff I was looking for, via spending limit.

If the "Run-down" on what the town has or doesn't have was wrong, could someone let me know now, before things get too far advanced? It would help me a lot. Thank you!

Gabe I gave you the generic information on the town as far as purchasing power and selling limit would be. As you have seen with Verana's Sundries there may be a couple of magic items in other locations but that is not typical knowledge that a know local would provide and something you would have to find out for yourselves...

Beck, the warm weather gear wouldn't provide you any further benefit from the cold but it would mask you a bit from others at a distance being a local style and not give away immediately that you are strangers.

Xanxan and perception DC 20 for those outside as they are by the front door, Venja and Gabe, or the window Helgash and Beck:

Xanxan your 'charms' are indeed persuasive and Katrina begins to tell you a bit about the area and what specific dangers to look out for. If it is specifics you want, then know this. The Pale Tower knows that you are here and they are not happy about your presence. Someday soon you will be 'summoned' before them to account for you being here. The summons are usually cruel and those taken are rarely seen from again. Harboring strangers is enough depending on the witches mood to earn a summons if one is not careful. They always manage to see what is going on, even right now...

At this point you cant help but look around the room. As you do so, you notice that Emil has moved from where he was in front of the mirror to a spot a few feet away. In his hands is a heavy crossbow pointed at you. Get up and get out!!! Leave town now before I fill you with bolts. Leave me and my wife alone and scram.!

Xanxan you realize now that the clink you heard was really the crossbow being set. It being hidden behind the bar the entire time you never saw it. So engrossed in Katrina's tale of those who offend the Pale Tower witches were you that you never saw Emil bring the crossbow up and aim it at you. At his side is a dagger.

DC was 15 in both cases Xanxan, so close...now though you know that any overt move other than picking up your pack and walking out the door will cause Emil to fire at you.

Male Gnome Rogue-4 (Saves-F+2,R+8,W+1; Perception +9(10 vs traps);HP 21/27)

Xanxan looks at the man with the crossbow, seemingly calm, but inwardly he's quite furious. Seek to usurp my will under the pretense of drink? And they sneer at my friend just because he likes having an axe about? The gnome moves to Katrina to use her as cover, "Katrina my dear, your husband is being irrational. DO try to calm him down." he looks at the man, "Careful, if you fire I'll likely have to duck behind something, or someone. Set it down, won't you?"

Bluff. Xanxan probably wouldn't do it, but he is hoping to fake the fellow out rather than risk being shot in the back. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

And , feeling vindictive, he adds to Katrina in a whisper, "Maybe you should reconsider being around such an unstable fellow. A lass like you is attracted to shorter fellows anyway." He doubts that will stick long, but who knows, it might, and if the potion is strong enough to last for years, then they deserve a little disruption for their treachery.

Xanxan Init 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Emil Init 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

Xanxan, you manage to duck around and get Katrina in between you and Emil for the time being, playing a deadly game of cat and mouse. At your request to have her cover you she seems to ignore it and continue on with her first command of telling you about the dangers of the area. Now if you truly are from far away, then another danger is the extreme cold and the winter storms that come through here. A person caught unprepared and it in the open would not last the night in the frigid temperatures. I fact I have heard tales of storms lasting no longer than 1 hour but leaving a whole party frozen in place. Beyond the cold and dismal weathe, the farther you stray from civilization the worse it gets. There are winter wolves larger than horses, trolls made of ice, dragons with breath that will freeze a mans blood and kill him before he realizes it.

Emil moves around to the side of the table getting a clear shot at Xanxan while yelling at his wife. Snap out of him wife and focus. after moving his full distance he is finally able toget a clear line of sight to Xanxan. Pulling up the crossbow he snaps off a shot aiming at xanxan's head.

Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Damage 1d10 ⇒ 10

The bolt sails wide over the head of the short gnome but clearly he means it for you to leave now!

Your turn Xanxan, those outside can make perception DC 10 checks to hear the commotion now and join in if you make the check.

Xanxan plays around the mullberry bush for a moment, but when it looks like the idiot might actually endanger his wife, well, best to be going.

"Do tell, Katrina, good advice that, many thanks," He hasn't forgotten the chat she was starting earlier about 'even right now' We're being watched, at least I am, even right now. Hope whoever is there is having a laugh.

Xanxan eyes Emil and says plainly "Now aren't you glad that wasn't poison the two of you tried to slip into my drink? Be right messy for your wife if it was. Your...hospitality will be remarked upon. If there's one thing I love to do, it's talk. A Tailor's curse upon thee for thy betrayal of one who originally meant no wrong to you, 'May the crotch of your pants always itch, and should you ever betray another guest, may your shirt have a hole in the back.. AFTER you put it on.'"

And out he darts, if he can.
Full Defense (+4 AC?) and run to the door to get out I suppose :)

Emil continues to yell curses at you after you leave the premises about ...giving you a new place to stick your scissore if you ever show up again and you had best leave town too before it gets worse for you and yours...

that could have gone worse...where to next?

new discussion thread as well

Will you be linking the Social Thread to this site as well?

And I guess a follow-up question is; since we don’t get bonuses to our characters for Social RP in this version, does anyone formally still want to use the Social Thread?

I’m game for it for doing Social RP because it’s fun for me whether we get the bonuses or not; but I know that’s a lot of writing for some people and without the bonuses for posting or social RP, I don’t know if trying to keep up dialogue with everyone is worth it.

Just curious is all.

As it is Immortal's social thread I can't link it directly but I can make a new one.

For bonuses for using the RP thread throw ideas out there and I will consider them. We are not using hero points so using the thread would be a good way to garner some bonuses. I am thinking of a +2 to any d20 after 100 posts, free reroll after 500, something like that...

Thoughts, questions, concerns?

new social thread

new social thread

Well, a few things -

1. I tried to post on the social thread - just to dot it, but it wouldn't let me for some reason. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the site, or what, but I figured I'd mention it here.

2. I know the GM was pretty determined that he wanted people to post relatively frequently. What he told me when we started was that in both the Skull and Shackles game - and the Winter Game - was that players were expected to post twice a day or 10 times a week average. If they were out of town they were supposed to put something on the board like "Hey guy's - I'll be away from the game for the weekend; if X could NPC me while I'm gone, that'd be great - but I didn't want the game to stop while you waited for me.".

That kept the game moving at a pretty solid pace; but he did drop some players when they didn't post frequently (the Skull and Shackles game specifically).

This game twice a day or at least 10 times a week is pretty much what the group is averaging anyway, so that's pretty cool. But he did give props for people who played in character, or fleshed out their character, and so on.

3. In point of fact, you pretty much hit what the old GM did for social RP in general. The 500 postings typically got a free re-roll for a player. The entire group got a free re-roll all around whenever we did something "epic" (like our first 500 posts as a team, I think; 1,000 as a team; 5,000 as a team - beating a tough villain, or something like that). And I think he capped it out at 3 maximum per player until he added Hero Points (but that's why we had extra re-rolls on our old sheets).

4. Other than re-rolls he kind of gave us a "signature item" for each player, generally it was based on how the player was doing socially via postings in general, coupled with the needs/desires of the player.

The items were fairly unique, and local to each player. From what I understand, they increased in power based on social interaction and generally they were crafted by the GM after having some long talks with each player personally on what they're looking for and what they were interested in (from what I understand).

Signature items were a lot of fun for me (and from what I understand the other players had a pretty good time with them, too), but they had the potential to get very powerful.

From what I've seen so far you tend to keep things very "by the book" so creating special signature items may not be your style.

But just consider some off-the-cuff possibilities:

For example, letting Sheelah polymorph into a Tiger-type Rakshasa for one hour a day for every 4 levels that Beck has (as Sheelah is pretty cool anyway, but having the humanoid/Rakshasa feature be pretty awesome for certain things once in a while, especially as Beck is also a Tiefling). If not that, maybe a White Tiger Catfolk type - when she'd have the same stats, except for her Intelligence, which could bump up to maybe +6 points or something talk at least in Common and the Catfolk language while in humanoid form?

Or maybe you would allow Aneira a subquest to grant her the ability to discover a "Cohort" who was 5 levels below her; but the Cohort might actually be a her Ghost who is actually able to take on class levels, and the reason she's five levels below Aneira is because she has the "Undead: Ghost" as her "race" and Aneira has to help her be "put to rest".

Xanxan is a rouge, but he's also a tailor. What if he discovered he has the ability to weave visions of the future? That if he made a "Profession: Tailor" check of a DC of 20 and spent one hour of work on a project he could have an effective Augery spell used with his thread - caster level equal to his ranks in Profession: Tailor? And in time his weaving could begin to give him other powers as well (perhaps his threads are touched by the divine?) and he could spend four hours of work to weave a Divination Spell (DC 25 - same rules apply) or possibly other similar unique talents?

Venja is a witch - but it makes me think of the White Witch from Narnia - what if Venja had a similar weapon - a stone dagger; but the dagger was a dagger of Spell Stealing - but for any spell that it steals, Venja can cast that spell as a Move Action in the next three rounds; and Venja can attempt to steal any spell that the caster knows, instead of just ones that the caster has on them.

As for you; you're a Magus; but what if you got a Black Blade as per the Magus class - but only 4 levels below the standard Black Blade Archtype, so now you had two arcthypes; but one of them is a weapon that has some fun personality?

It's only suggestions, of course - but it would give the players a chance to have some fun outside the box and reward the players for doing some extra postings. Also, there would be no penalty for players who didn't have the time or availability to post, but they simply wouldn't be able to get as many neat things (for example).

Male Elf Magus 2 (AC: 16,12,14; HP: 20; Saves 4,2,3; Init +2, perc +2)

hmm, it seems like the posts are not showing up but when I check the status under the campaign settings it shows that you tried posting already GAbe. I dont' know. Maybe a glitch in the system and have to wait to see if it works.

On a positive note, both the RP and actual campaign is linked at the top of the discussion thread above.

Looking over your suggestions Gabe.

I tried to post a dot marker on the new social rp thread just now, too, and nothing showed up as posted.

I have a general question.

When Aneira interrogated Vrixx, he mentioned Teb (male), the leader, and Izole (female), his second-in-charge. Did we kill Izole after we left the bandit's cabin (I'm trying to ascertain if the fey that we killed back then was her)? Or is she still alive?

Thanks. :)

Apologies guys, updates are given me fits for some reasons and RL has me distracted. I'm not a big fan of the holidays because I feel like by the time they're done I need a vacation ;)

Unfortunately, both Pakak and Xanxan are a little frustrated right now. Xanxan keeps having the worst luck with traps and his short movement rate is really a hindrance in this snow, and Pakak's current first priority is babysitting the three NPCs causing him to be late to the fights.

I'm not feeling terribly effective with either at this moment.

Beck; I'm totally down with your work on the loot list. It's kick-ass and a great job. Thanks!

As for the rider; there's his armor. Gabryjel has been ambiguous about loot/gear because I don't want to slow things down with a discussion on who gets what when we can't even spend anything.

As for all the magical stuff I'm assuming that we're taking it with us wherever we go. We know everything magical because of Detect Magic, so it all glows and we have all of it, so there's that.

Meantime, I just want to toss this out here -

Between this site, the social Thread and the one DM Immortal ran we have made 1,900 posts on this board between six players (including the DM NPC).

We've had more combats with higher CR - not counting puzzles, clues, traps, or general challenges than most games I've seen out there on this level.

But XP aside, if we go on "quest based" stuff we've rescued prisoners; cleaned out a bandit lair; broke a curse with some kind of Fey doll; dealt with tons of undead; and managed to beat a troll, 3 Fey's (including a caster) and an elemental during weather conditions that were epic on their own - all of this on level 2. And it seems that level 3 is a "long way off".

Okay, that's how it is; that's that's how it is. But I think we're all ready to go on, and nothing is happening.

Unfortunately we can't go on if there's no where to go.

Meantime we signed on to these games the expectation is that the average posting rate is about twice a day from each player - weekends aside. We also knew that if there was a problem with posting - if we couldn't post because we were sick, or had work, or whatever - we'd at least toss something like "He guys, sorry I can't post the next couple of days, I'll be out of town or on vacation, or exams" - or whatever.

Personally I'm ready to go on, but in RL it's been nearly 5 days and all we've done is sit here and discuss "options" since we defeated this epic challenge that almost wiped out the party.

If we're not going to continue gaming that will really suck because I enjoy the character and am curious to know what happens next.

But I do not care for the lack of pacing. There is no reason that we need to spend nearly a week RL sitting around not advancing - unless there IS a reason, in which case it would be good if we knew one way or the other.

Unfortunately, right now there's nothing happening and it's getting frustrating.

Does anyone know what's going on with either game and why things aren't advancing? If so, I'd like to know more.

Thank you.

Two things Gabe...

First don't worry about the number crunching with leveling I will let you know when it happens. I have GM'd for a while now so thank you very much. Accept it and get over it.

The second, shut up about the pace of the game. First you tell me that you want to be able to RP. I figured after such a combat and with an interesting encounter with the fey decaying before your eyes you would like that. Instead it is the opposite and you are grumbling about not doing anything. Too bad. If you don't like it quit. I don't need you and can replace you in both games quite easily.

I am now pissed off and not in any mood to do any updates. I will move things along tomorrow.

Hi. I just got home. Can someone give me a summary of what's happened in both games over the two weeks? I really do not have the time to read through all the postings. Sorry and thanks.

In winter the group arrived at Waldsby after saving two men from an attack by a mantis. Nadya, the leader of the men and head of the dogsled teams, brought you all with her in thanks. There was a stop in a cave where Beck tried to flirt with a bard and told to come back some other time. Other than that people are just starting to explore Waldsby and have only been in town for an hour. Beck, Gabe, and Venja are in the only tavern and Venja has healed a guy of a broken leg. Xanxan is getting the lay of the town and looking at clothing styles. Gabe is paranoid about a cloaked figure spying on the group. Variel is lying low trying not to interact with the locals and cause a disturbance as he is crass and knows to shut up in a new place.

In Wrath, the group is out of the underground. they made a stop to drop off Aravashinal at a library after cleansing it from tieflings and a traitor crusader. Now they are at Nyserian Manor, one of the cultist safe houses, trying to purge that area as well.

Glad to have you back.

So Anee would be with her husband? I mean it would make little sense to have them separated but I shall work with what you say.

And you have Oriana waiting with Pakak? Where and why?

And thanks, Var.

Yes Anee with Variel but they can head to the tavern or whatever else she decides to do. There is a map of waldsby at the top of the page with information on each location of interest. Right now there is no tie constraints as the geas will not be applied right now so it is the opportunity to explore this town and talk to people. For those that aren't socially gifted this time could be used to craft items, do research, etc. it seems that Xanxan is going th route of researching the area and the town.

I had Oriana wait with Pakak outside hidden amongst the rubble to help protect Horgus and Anevia should something happen outside...

Okay, thanks Var.

Variel, I'm having trouble accessing the Waldsby map -- a broken link comes up every time I try to look at it. Is there another link I could try?

Btw with the successful healing of the leg and with the nice RP with beck and Gabe I am going to have you guys level up as soon as you guys sleep. Enjoy level 3 everyone and if you have questions about leveling up just ask and I will give my best answer without revealing too much.

Is the spiritual leader's name Rolf or Roth? You have spelled it differently in your respective postings. ;)

Supposed to be Roth... Have a family member who is Rolf and must have typed that by accident.

Thanks for the clarification.

So gang, do we feel like desecrating a grave? I mean the townsfolk already dislike Beck and Gabe. Why not add Aneira to the mix to dig up a dead person ... :p

Hell yeah! maybe if we can do this and it goes well, we'll score some points with the people! and for justice!

I'm prolly out for the night... but we'll see what happens tomorrow

Thank you, I appreciate the part about the RP :)

I'll have something done via leveling as soon as we're able.
