Durriken Garde |

Durriken leaps over the dog, charging towards the Orc, drawing his handaxe to replace the dagger he had thrown. He growls as he closes the distance, swinging the sword at the creature's neck.

Fishery Fight - Round 1 - concluded
After getting bashed from above, Gyllan tries to counter, but is foiled by the awkward angle of the stairs. He then wisely scoots out to the end of the stairwell, trying to draw the giggling orc out on the floor proper.
End of Round 1
Dog is down, but the good guys took some hits. We'll see if the sleep hex works on 2 legs next round. Sorry for mis-numbering rounds before, that, just ended, was officially Round 1. Round 2 starts now.

DM DoctorEvil |

Fishery Fight - Round 2
The Little Lamms continue to evacuate as the fight reaches a fever pitch on the Fishery floor.
18 Arianna
11 Durriken
9 Fingers
8 Corso
8 Giggles
5 Gyllan
After seeing her sleeping hex work well on the savage dog, Arianna lets fly with another, but this time the target's willpower proves too strong. Giggles' good eye droops a bit and he stifles a yawn in between his incessant (and rather annoying by now) chuckling but he remains upright and fighting.
Giggles Will DC 13: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
His arm still throbbing from the dog's teeth, Durriken draws his handaxe into his off-hand and advances at the one-eyed half-orc slashing as he goes onto the bottom step. The orc warrior blocks the sword blow with his shield and a loud clang reverberates through the night air.
Fingers steps forwards towards the hole in the floor, looking for an open shot against the orc who is in a pitched melee with Durriken and also has cover from the stairwell. Taking the best shot he has, the rogue releases another arrow, but what looks like another sure hit is deflected at the last moment by the wooden rail.
Fingers bow: 1d20 + 4 - 4 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 4 - 4 - 2 = 13
Alright Corso let's see what you can do before Giggles gets another shot with that flail.

Corso Gaczi |
Corso pushes through the others, intent on getting the man he thinks is responsible for his sister's demise: "I'll give you something to laugh about!" he shouts as he brings his sword to his chest, tip pulsing with arcane energy, and pushes forth between the railings to stab his leg.
2h-longsword: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 181d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 1 = 9

DM DoctorEvil |

As the laughing half-orc brushes aside the flurry of attacks by Durriken, Corso steps up and jabs through the railing of the stairs and into the hip and side of the villain. The blade sinks deep and blood spurts from the wound, but the now-enraged orc brings his flail around at Corso, trying to knock the new enemy aside. The orc then steps backwards trying to be able to concentrate on one enemy at a time.
Giggles Flail, elevation, partial cover: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 - 2 = 22
Corso Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Gyllan to you and the top of the order again.

Gyllan Dow |

Gyllan darts past Durriken on the stairs, raising his sword as he does so. He cuts Giggles deeply across his thigh.
Longsword attack, favored enemy: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 2 = 20
Longsword damage, 2H, favored enemy: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 = 9
Forgot about favored enemy bonus, and half-orcs count!

DM DoctorEvil |

Fishery Fight - Round 2 - concluded
Gyllan squeezes past his companions at the base of the stairs and lays into Giggles with both hands on this longsword, the resultant cut laying open the half-orc chest and shoulder. With a loud moan, he crumples to the ground on the stair landing, blood running out in rivulets from his two massive wounds.
End of Combat
Arianna, your healing hex can come out of combat rounds now. Some lucky die rolls for the bad guy and some bad die rolls for the good guys made this fight tougher than it needed to be. For this, your first fight, you each earned 107 xp. We will be on Medium (normal) advancement track, so that's about 5% to next level. Post-combat I will put a summary up in the Discussion tab to review wounds, spells and resources used etc. Please check this to make sure I don't have any errors that might impact you negatively later. Good job so far, I appreciate the rapid posts!"

Durriken Garde |

Durriken toes the Orc with his boot, finding him truly dead, he grunts and nods approvingly at Corso and Gyllan. "Get the rest out, I'll scare them if I try to help. Besides, someone has to watch those doors. Anyone else here heard this racket." Stepping over the corpse, he continues quickly up the stairs, hoping to find his dagger on the catwalk above.

DM DoctorEvil |

Fingers leads any remaining children out the door as Durriken climbs the catwalk, bends to retrieve his throwing dagger, and stands guard atop the plank catwalk in case more trouble comes from there.
What is everyone else up to?

Gyllan Dow |

Already standing partway up the stairs, Gyllan moves up the rest of the way. He squeezes past Durriken as the burly Varisian stoops down to collect his dagger and stops near the doors, listening for any noise on the other side of them, and hoping to surprise anyone who comes to investigate all the ruckus.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

Gyllan Dow |

I assumed it was okay to read Durriken's perception spoiler once I got near him.
Gyllan lifts his head in alarm and calls out in a loud whisper, "More coming! Not sure how many."

DM DoctorEvil |

With the help of Fingers, Corso and Arianna all the children are led out into the Korvosan night air. From outside the door, another loud explosion can be heard. It is far off and of no immediate threat, but it does make you wonder...
If you had to estimate, you'd say you have a round of prep time before they come through the middle door.

Gyllan Dow |

Gyllan again calls to his companions in an urgent whisper, "One man, one kid, coming to the middle door! They heard something down here, don't know what it is! They'll be here in a few seconds." He moves close to the door and grimly raises his sword.
We've got one round before they come through the door, presumably a surprise round when they come through.

DM DoctorEvil |

Corso looks out to see that the children have all but disappeared into the streets. None seem to be in particular danger.
Gyllan is correct, you have basically one round to prepare, then they will open the door and then you may have a surprise round. If you move in the prep round, please give me a stealth roll which the coming enemies will oppose with a Perception with penalty DC. If you are stationary, we will assume you are quiet.

Gyllan Dow |

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Durriken - sorry to block your getting into melee. I wasn't sure how we could both get in, and this way Gyllan will have an attack in the surprise round if he needs it. Since we're both wounded, we may end up switching places if Gyl takes another hit anyway.

Fishery Fight 2 - Surprise Round
The door to the room flies open and a small child carrying a curved knife enters first followed by a tall man with short blond hair and a sour face, wearing an expensive silk robe.
"Giggles, where did you get...." says the man, stopping suddenly when he sees the group. His face registers his surprise at the presence of interlopers.
Initiative Order
21 Fingers
14 Arianna
8 Child (surprised)
7 Yargin (surprised)
7 Corso
7 Durriken
3 Gyllan
Fingers releases his arrow at the tall man framed in the doorway, but his aim from below is off, and the arrow splinters the wood above the man's head.
Arianna casts Mage Armor, encasing herself in a protective bubble of energy for the rest of the combat.
Ok, up to the three guys at the bottom of the list, Corso, Durriken, and Gyllan. Remember, surprise round is SA or MA only, not both.
Fingers Bow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Corso Gaczi |
Corso, reacting as the door opens, sees the knife and lets his arrow loose, before realizing. Calistria bite me! It's just a kid!
He watches in mixed terror his arrow fly, somehwta hoping he'll miss...

Confirm: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 112d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 3) + 2 = 10

Gyllan Dow |

Gyllan sees that it's just a child stepping through the door, and can't bring himself to kill the boy. Still, he's armed. Gyllan turns his blade slightly sideways and swings it at the boy's feet, in an attempt to bring him to the ground.
Longsword, trip attack, +2 FE: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 2 = 13 Shouldn't get an AoO because he's flat-footed, which also denies him a Dex bonus to CMD. So maybe that'll work.
Just saw Corso's post. If the kid's dead, Gyllan will 5-foot step and use that roll as an attack on the adult. Here's a damage roll in that case:
Longsword damage, 2H: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Durriken Garde |

perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Unable to see the source of the voice, Durriken's eyes narrow and he lets fly with his dagger at the child, threading it narrowly past Gyllan.

Gyllan Dow |

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Ah, the irony of not seeing the Perception DC 14 spoiler! I wondered why Arianna rolled it, but then when Durriken did too, I figured I should take a closer look.

DM DoctorEvil |

Fishery Fight 2 - Surprise Round - concluded
An arrow and a flying dagger both strike the small childlike figure who is first to enter the room. The combined projectiles cause the figure to crumple and hit the floor, leaving only the sour-faced man in the doorway.
Gyllan steps to the doorway and slashes at the man with his longsword, the blade biting through the silk robe quite easily and leaving a big bloodstained gash inside. The man shrieks in agony, but does not fall.
End of Surprise Round
I'm not sure if Corso looked at the spoiler or is just cold-blooded. I retconned Gyllan's actions based on the fall of the gnome/child. Seems like that one was pretty much on a plate for you.

Gyllan Dow |

I retconned Gyllan's actions based on the fall of the gnome/child. Seems like that one was pretty much on a plate for you.
Just what I had in mind. We're now back at the top of initiative, right? So Gyl can wait around to see what the robed guy has in mind to do to him.
Edit: oops, mis-clicked when I selected the alias for my post. You can clean up the character list and shove that Kalt fellow out of the way, right? Have a care, though, he's a prickly fellow.

DM DoctorEvil |

Fishery Fight 2 - Round 1
21 Fingers
14 Arianna
7 Yargin (wounded)
7 Corso
7 Durriken
3 Gyllan
With the stabbed tall man screaming and the child-like gnome bleeding out, Fingers doesn't have a good shot so he shoulders his bow and starts up the stairs, figuring he'll draw his dagger if the man is still upright when he gets there.
Arianna it's to you. Hope you didn't waste that Mage Armor on a nerfed fight.

DM DoctorEvil |

Fishery Fight 2 - Round 1
The Varisian witch steps forward, careful of her footing on the icky floor and tosses a pinch of sand in the air, muttering strange exotic words that seem like a lullaby. Up on the loft, the man's eyelids flutter once, then twice, then he falls asleep with a crash.
Yargin Will Save DC 13: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8
This series of events jumps us to Corso and the boys to follow up.

Gyllan Dow |

Gyllan moves to stand over the body of the fallen gnome, looking in the door the pair entered through as he does so, and listening for any further sounds coming from that direction. He then lowers the tip of his sword to rest directly over the blond man's throat. If the man awakens, Gyllan will gently rest the tip against the man's throat and say in a quiet voice, "You make one little sound, even by accident, and you're dead. You move even your little finger without my say-so, and you're dead. Got it?"
Perception to hear anyone coming beyond door, +2 more vs humans: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

DM DoctorEvil |

Gyllan strains to hear anymore noises coming from the interior of the Fishery, but the creaking of the pilings and splashing of the river is all he can hear. He holds his steel to the throat of the man, who awakes with a start, eyes wide.
The man nods slightly and his eyes show understanding of your threat, he makes no move to escape or scream.
Durriken recovers his thrown dagger and checks the smaller figure for life. The figure is unconscious and quite injured, but apparently stable.
DC 15 CON check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
I forgot to say, I guess, that you are out of rounds. You can free fire post as you see fit now.

Durriken Garde |

Still kneeling over the crumpled form, Durriken wipes and sheathes his dagger before picking up the small blade the unconscious form held. He looks across at the silk-clad man. "Did this one work for you, or did you work for him?"

Corso Gaczi |
Corso kneels over the dying kid.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
His face flushes as he realizes his mistake. Oh Corso, you've been foooooled...
A smile flashes across his face as he acknowledges the cleverness of the ruse.
Well, at least you're no child-slayer...
He stands back up and returns his attention to the here and now: "Is this Lamm?" he asks of the others, his hand reassuring the grip on his sword.

Gyllan Dow |

Gyllan wants to know if the man he attacked is Lamm, but he's even more interested in knowing if they're still in danger.
"Is there anyone else in this building? Tell me the truth, and that slash I gave you will be the only one you get today. Lie to me, and you'll get more, and I'm not sure how many you can handle."
Intimidate: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Sense Motive, +2 FE: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 2 = 15
Not very scary, am I? But I can spot a liar even with a crappy roll.

Durriken Garde |

Durriken hands the kukri to Corso, a small, wry grin crossing his face as he whispers to the other man. "Nice shot." Turning from him before Corso can respond, Durriken steps past Gyllan and his prone captive, holding his sword, point downward, in both hands, leaning slightly over to look into the captive's eyes.

"Fingers" Mitchell |

"That ain't Lamm. That bastard's gotta be older now than this puke. This's prob'ly one o' his hired thugs or some'ne who gets off hurtin'' kids or somethin'." Fingers says passionately, squinting at the tall man.
