Toren "Stand" Still |
"There's a door but its pretty heavy lookin'. If it's locked we may not have much of a choice but ter fight this thing!"
Toren shudders at a recollection from past adventure, "Tessa's gonna be nigh useless 'gainst this thing...it'll be able to pass right through her!"
He drops the shield and grabs his Bec de Corbin with both hands, "Looks like I ain't gotta choice...yeh got anything that can help me hit the damned thing?!"
Pirate Rob |
With discretion the greater part of valor Arryn withdraws to a position where he can hopefully open the door on his next turn and let the party escape.
The creature silently floats over to Jarlgur and reaches out and touches him.
Jarlgur, take 1 point of strength damage.

I should be able to check in once more this afternoon before heading off on my trip, after which I'm unsure of my timing/ability to respond.
Jarlgur Flamnord |
Jarlgur will delay until either Kardak or Barrin make room for him to back up. At that point he will five foot step backwards and cast Disrupt Undead
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Jarlgur stands facing the shadow, weighing his options.
Arryn Wildblood |
Thanks for the Withdraw
Arryn groans as he strength is ripped from his body... unable to get a fix on the creature he withdraws to re-assess his options.
Barrin Ironhite |
Sorry guys, I've got nothing that will even touch this thing.
"Flee the thing! It's invulnerable!"
Barrin also takes the withdraw full round action, moving double his speed to Square O40, adjacent to the door.
Toren "Stand" Still |
Toren hurriedly thanks Aleister "Thanks, I'll try ter hold it off", popping the cork and smearing the oil on his polearm's head even as the witch passes on towards the door.
"Kardak,Jarlgur, C'MON!!! I'll guard yer escape back this way, we jes' gotta open that door behind me!" Toren yells at the two.
He braces himself, gripping the haft as hard as he can.
Apply oil of bless weapon and ready an action to attack the thing when/if it comes into Reach range. Also, I will take an AoO if/when available as well.
Pirate Rob |
Aleister gets out his other oil before fleeing. Jarlgur misses by a mile with his ray. Barrin makes for the door and Toren applies the oil.Note: it's a standard action to apply the oil, so no readied attack possible unfortunately.

Well I'm off to catch my flight, first stop: Long Beach CA. I'll be there for a day before heading off to China, I'll post when available for the next week.
Arryn Wildblood |
Moves to attack position and uses the aid another manuever to make it easier for one of the two guys (dont have a map) to hit with their holy oil blades.
Aid Another Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Pirate Rob |
Arryn can't quite make it up to the shadow in a single move, but he get's close, I think it makes the most sense for Arryn to full defense in case the shadow does go after him. I'm happy to let you do something else if you'd rather.
After Arryn moves up the shadow effortlessly glides through the air, some of it fluttering away into nothingness from Kardak's swing.
It retaliates by swiping at Kardak's head, as it's icy hand passes through Kardak's shoulder, Kardak can feel his strength begin to fade away. Kardak: 2 points of strength damage

If we help each other I think we can take this thing with your anointed blades! Else it will harry us all the way back to the entrance of the dungeon!
Toren "Stand" Still |
Pirate Rob, what's your stance on attacking diagonal squares with reach weapons? If I move to R36 will I be able to reach the thing?
Pirate Rob |
Arryn, you weren't able to get close enough to the shadow last round, but you could easily finishing moving up this round and aid.
Despite his best efforts Kardak is unable to connect with the flying shadow this round while Jarlgur retreats from the creature.

Incorporeal creatures only take half damage from the enchanted blades. A definite improvement from 0 damage from non magical blades.
while the door appears to be heavy it easily opens from this side. As it does you hear the almost inaudible hiss of magic dissipating, although there is no obvious effect.
Aleister & Barrin can now see into what is clearly the upper balcony of where they first encountered the goblins. There is a coiled up rope on the floor near the closest pillar, a stone door in the NW side of the balcony, an open archway in the SW side of the balcony that quickly leads to downward sloping stairs and finally a large stone door in the south corner of the balcony. Seven thumb-sized sockets are embedded in the southern door, arranged in a ring around a starburst design.
There are currently no goblins in sight.
Just a move action to open the door so Aleister can further act if desired

Aleister moves to the edge of the balcony while Barrin guards the doorway.

Kardak steps back and draws another tear through the shadow menacing down on him.
Jarlgur lights it up with a positive energy ray and manages to connect despite it being in melee. No cover as it's currently above people making use of "higher ground."
Jarlgur then retreats around the corner.

Toren glances around quickly at the walls, but doesn't think anything can help him here. With no other choice he backs up a step and swings his polearm again.

"Arryn! Go ahead and get back there...Kardak an' me will keep this bugger busy. But take Tessa with yeh!!!" He nods towards the tower shield on the ground where he was standing a moment before.
He looks at Kardak and mutters, "We might jes' be in a bit o' trouble."
Toren "Stand" Still |
Toren looks down at the lapis lazuli...then at his polearm. He looks up, grinning through his beard and says, "Or...we might NOT be in trouble!"
He stoops down to the ground, an action that doesn't take long due to his natural proximity, and picks up his shield. He rubs the side of it, "Don't yer worry gal, I'd never leave yeh behind."
Toren "Stand" Still |
"Yer right! Mebbe I should be a little more careful."
Toren again leans over and takes a good long look at the stone.
Take 20 on Appraise gemstones and precious metals, so 20+5...should be able to tell if its still magical with that.
Kardak the Feared |
Once Toren is done examining it, Kardak pokes the gem gingerly with his glaive, then sends it skittering around the corner with a blow from the flat of his blade. The gem should now be on the floor in the general vicinity of N37. "Is it safe to pick up?" The question is directed to both Toren and the magic users in the next room.
"Let's put a door between us and that room," he says to Toren and Arryn. Once a decision on the gem has been reached and the door closed, he will chalk a warning on the door.
Pirate Rob |
I don't think you can take 20 on appraise, due to the consequences for failing, also you may not want to hang out here for 2 minutes.
The small indigo gem appears to be a non-magical and perfectly normal lapiz lazuli, probably worth less than 100gp.

Anyways...
"Yeah...I don't think there's anythin' magic left in it...but I ain't trustin' enough to touch it with my bare..." Toren sighs in consternation as the gem skitters across the floor, "Hands. But I gotta make a livin' when we get back so I'll take it ter sell. It'll at least have a good story behind it."
Toren rips a piece of his undershirt off and grabs the gem with the cloth, wraps it up, and goes to stick it in his backpack.
