Man... shades of Crypt of the Everflame. Lets take fresh PC's and throw them against a Shadow.
What? Can't understand why they are dying? Don't understand that newbie characters don't normally pack silver weapons, magic weapons, oils of enchant/bless weapon etc? Oh there's a magic DAGGER... but its where the damn PCs won't have the time to look while the shadow tears them apart... and even if they do, its a damn dagger!
Now lets take that, remove the slim comfort of the dagger and THEN add a wight to the dungeon... sheeesh.
Not bagging the GM here and luckily we have some experienced pathfinders here but can the writers of these low level games take a deep breath and understand the limitations that new characters have?
I haven't taken a look at Thornkeep yet; but since only the dungeons themselves are PFS sanctioned I'm wondering if there is some non-sanctioned introductory material that would have provided information (perhaps even the tools needed?) for these tougher fights.

And... I spaced the withdraw action, I feel some more strength loss coming on. Jarlgur bravely stares the shadow down, giving his compatriots a chance to flee. ;)

There's not really any useful warnings or extra resources gained from the town as Thornkeep is not a happy friendly place (If you have a halfling you can end up with cursed gloves of fumbling). Although you might go venture down into the Accursed Halls, get about this far, retreat and do a side quest or two to gain level 2 before venturing back down.
I think you guys will likely kill the shadow without losing anybody or at the very worst flee with only 1 party member down. At which point you will probably want to return to town and rest even if you risk a wandering monster and give the goblins time to regroup.
That said, I totally agree that wights and shadows are unreasonable monsters to send against level 1 PCs. The wight especially is a weird monster that quickly becomes irreverent but is insanely deadly against level 1 characters.
The one important thing you do miss out on from not doing town are clues on how to open the door but I'm confident you guys can make short work of it once you're not being pursued by horrible monsters.
Ni hao from Guangzhou, only got a few free minutes, but wanted to at least check in and say hi. It is looking increasingly unlikely I'll be able to advance the game till I get back on the 24th. Can we sell the bows we looted off the skeletons to pay for the six nights at the inn it will take for Arryn to recover? Kardak's quite broke.
You are welcome to sell the bows etc to get the cash, it'll still show up as an expense on your chronicle sheet at the end of things. Note that 24hrs of rest cures 2 points, so to fully get rid of the STR damage it'll only take 3 days of rest and 3gp from everybody.
There's the question about what to do about Kardak's negative level.
As mentioned before it's a DC 15 fort save (I'll give you a +1 circumstance bonus for being well fed and in a nice warm bed) to see if the negative level becomes permanent or not.

Unfortunately your negative level is permanent until you have restoration cast with the additional 1000gp material component (total cost 1280gp) or 4PP (Note would cost 9pp in Thornkeep due to its small size, but would easily be normal cost at the end of the adventure).

I'm happy to handle the missing people, sounds like there's a general consensus to head down the SW stairs that are through the open door. (Or at least no objection to heading that way. I've been not posting for a few days now due to sickness and business travel though should be ok now.
Welcome back, I hope you're feeling better.
As a note we are now past the 2/3 mark and thus you are entitled to full rewards. I am happy to continue running if desired but am aware that we are significantly past my initial time estimate and down a player (Christopher).
So I see 3 main options:
Call it quits here.
Continue as normal.
Give you guys a nice summary/description of your heroic efforts to clear the last few rooms.
If we do continue I would rather not include Barin (Christopher's character) as he's been gone so long I would feel quite uncomfortable getting him killed at this point. This still leaves you with 5 hearty adventures though.
Thoughts, comments? Let me know what you guys want.

Well, I would hate to get killed...but would like to finish. Barrin was one of our frontliners. Hmm...that's a tough call. Not sure what happened to Christopher. I sent him a PM, but he never responded. He has quit posting in another PbP we were in together also, though I have seen him post on the boards. I guess we lost another one to the VC whirlpool/vortex? I'll wait for the others to weigh in on what to do.

The next landing is 5ft above the water.
The second landing is 15ft above the water.
The 3rd landing is 25ft above the the water.
Visibility is pretty limited from down where you are so you can only see parts of the landings straight ahead of you and only the very edge of the top landing.

Goblins however are not very good at counting and you are unable to get accurate numbers on how many goblins remain but Murgmo is not alone.
