PFS #113139

GM DevilDoc |

TomG: It was difficult to take this entire book and give you one run, and a lot of the background was scattered or diffused. The hook provided for just running this level did not have any background listed for you guys, nor did it have any knowledge sets for you guys to roll for. The name that would have given you entrance was only listed in the gm sections, and this thing is pretty much written so that yall have to fight. Besides.. Who wants to miss out on some cash?

Hi guys, sorry for my vanish. It was father's day here in Brazil last sunday, and I traveled to see my old one, wich don't have internet in the house. But now I'm back! =)

Perform Sing: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29 I get +2 more if Tome of Epics applies, which I'm not sure it does.
I need to see how much gold we have afterwards to determine what I want to purchase.
TomG--I can use wands of CLW

GM DevilDoc |

Never heard of the Tome of Epics.. but it looks like that may not be applicable. Not that it really matters, you have maxed out the day job roll, so I will leave that argument up to your next GM lol

GM DevilDoc |

Ok.. So just to make things easier, let me explain a bit about my schedule. I work fri-sun 14 hour days but for the most part I have access to computers so this is when I am most proliferate on my posting. The rest of the week I am in Nursing School trying to get my RN License. Most of my posting through the week will be in the afternoons or evenings. I will post at least once a day, but I have to get class out of the way first. Wife and son work in there as well, but generally I can update with no problems. Don't worry, I will be here!

GM DevilDoc |

Well, without giving up too much information, we cleared all of the dungeon before finding the Mi-Go. He disappeared as we walked in, and my character had the great idea of starting to fling all the gore from the lab tables across the area after a round of cat and mouse. Some of it got lucky.. and we all got covered because several others joined in.. So... the floor became treacherous and slippery (difficult terrain because of all of the body parts, blood and ick), the Mi-Go became visible, and we all paid hell for pissing it off! Lol.. There was only one surviving member of the party and he tucked tail and ran after watching the thing destroy 3 of us in 5 rounds. I was the last to fall, but it was only because it went after the ones that were actually managing to hit it first. Honestly, I dont even think that the surviving member even stuck around to see the thing eviscerate and rip me limb from limb. By the way.. resurrection costs blow.. my lvl 5 ended up with about 100 gold and NO prestige points left. The only good thing was the the GM allowed us to utilize the gold and PP that we were getting from the module to help pay for costs.
oh, and going into this fight, most of us had failed at least one save from the ability damage that most of the things in this dungeon cause. We literally walked in the room with our paladin so damaged he was walking around messing his pants, and our heavy hitter was down to like an 8 strength. My character had so much charisma damage that all he could do was grunt and curse at the rest of the company. The role play was fantastic and amazing, but the consequences were horrid.

Generic Pregen |

Wow. Sounds like a rough time. But the RP might have been fun.
It's interesting playing this with this particular pregen. Perhaps the worst optimized character for this fight. And not enough gear/pp to pay for a raise. Ugh. Mostly I feel bad for the other players that I can't support! Thank goodness for Yoon, the best pregen I've seen for PFS.

GM DevilDoc |

Impromptu over night camping trip in the morning. I will try to post before we leave but will not be back on until Thursday evening

So, @Yoon (and anyone else), I'm playing Yoon (4) (again) at a different table, and trying to back calculate her to hit bonus, and coming up short.
I mentioned it in the pregen thread. Anyone have any ideas?
Kinetic Blast +8
=+3 (BAB) +2 (Dex) +1 (size) +2 (???)I wouldn't expect this number to include her overflow bonus, as that's conditional on burn.
(And her overflow can only go to +1 anyway.)

GM DevilDoc |

And.. just so that yall know:
THE VISITANT CR 8
XP 4,800
Mi-go cleric of Shub-Niggurath 3 (Pathfinder Adventure Path #46 86)
CE Medium plant
Init +7; Senses blindsight 30 ft., low-light vision; Perception +17
DEFENSE
AC 22, touch 18, flat-footed 14 (+7 Dex, +1 dodge, +4 natural)
hp 107 (10d8+63)
Fort +14, Ref +10, Will +9
DR 5/slashing; Immune cold, plant traits; Resist electricity 10, fire 10
Good job yall! I am so happy that I did not have a TPK!! I have yet to kill anyone, and did not want to start out by killing an entire party haha.

@GM DevilDoc: For your kindness Amiri wasn't killed in this combat. =P

Generic Pregen |

"Special attack" is nearly always one of (Sp), (Su), or (Ex).
(Sp) provokes, but (Su) and (Ex) does not ... so you're saying the touch of idiocy was Su or Ex?
Interesting...

GM DevilDoc |

Yall are correct, and the AOO is put in.. I am sorry.. thank you for keeping me straight!

GM DevilDoc |

Thats part of my problem lol.. this is only the 5th Pathfinder game that I have GM'd. Way back in the day I used to DM, but that was for AD+D.. which really dates me..

![]() |

I'm still learning about it (haven't GM'd PFS yet, though) with the hope that at some point I'm confident enough to do it without messing it up too much. So mad props for all y'all what are actually DOING it.

TomG |

Karasuma,
Some unsolicited hints if you want to get into it (and you should; more GMs is better):
* Start small. Just like low level scenarios introduce players incrementally to things (swarms, DR, SR, etc.) the same is true for GMs.
* Start CORE. Fewer oddities to worry about means more focus on the basic CRB rules.
* Let players know you're new. They'll help. And be more forgiving.
* Go with scenarios or the free RPG Day modules (We Be Goblins, etc.) They're shorter, and require less preparation. Modules and adventure paths are more complex.
You'll get confidence as you go. Give it a shot. We can always use more GMs.

I'm going to be starting with a 'friendly' local group.
The current itinerary/thought flow is
First Steps
Confirmation
Wounded Wisp
I'd love to start CORE, but the players I've lined up for this want to play neat stuff that's Standard, so I'm going to suck it up a little. Fortunately, nothing is really obnoxious on what they have. Looking at a Ranger, a Witch, a Cavalier, and a Ninja for the lineup at the moment (subject to change of course)

![]() |

Yes.. I have to agree with Tom in the respect of starting small. Standard or core is your choice, but I thought that I would be up for the challenge of this run.. besides I needed a level up for a character and the chronicle will go a long way to help her!! Anyways, even with my experience way back when, this is proving to be a bit more to chew than I thought it would. I hope that I am not letting yall down too much, but after this, I am definitely going back to lower tiers and more common monsters!
Anyways, DO let your players know you are new. It makes it a lot easier to admit you were wrong with the inevitable mistakes, and I have received amazing advice from my players. There are also several articles on the messageboards that can really help.
One major help for me has also been the fact that my local GM is a good friend of mine and is always readily available to look something over or give advice in a pinch. Find someone that you can lean on that doesnt mind answering a million questions.. because no matter how experienced a player, GMing is VERY different!
Remember RULE #1: Always have fun. its hard work, but worth it!

![]() |

Weekends are terrible bad for me to post, guys. Sorry for the inconvenience.

GM DevilDoc |

Jirelle: I dont understand the text where it says that you spend an attack of opportunity.. can you or anyone explain this more clearly?

Generic Pregen |

The riposte counts against her 6 AoO per round (Combat Reflexes). After using the ability to counterattack, she'd only be able to make 5 attacks of opportunity (if foes were kind enough to offer her those).
Maybe if an enemy used a spell-like ability (1) that does a ranged-touch attack (2) before moving out of a threatened area (3) would get her part of the way, but that seems unlikely.
