Alabaster Cain |

Alabaster's daytime action was going to be influencing Owlbear. That's why he needed to know where he is and what he likes.

Alabaster Cain |

More than likely. If he wants to go I'll change it.

GM G |
All: see map of the ship in my status bar
Alabaster: you learned something from Giffer, it's up to you (IC) to act on that or not. In other words: I need more information from you
Ranak: where are you investigating? You know that Grok keeps her quartermaster's store under lock when she is not in there. At other times she opens the serving hatch in the door and serves people who need something from within her store
Edward: forgot to mention that you are fatigued at the end of the day due to the exhausting work you put in
Cogwald barks a harsh laugh "You might want to get someone to look at your eyes when we are back in port. I joined the crew the day before you decided to join. Do you remember the little speech captain Harridan gave the eight of us six days ago? I was standing next to that lovely redhead, although I understand why you prefer to look at her than at me."
He flexes his fingers "I would love to test my mettle with that Owlbear, although I can also imagine going up against that friend of yours for sport. What do you think, can we arrange something?"
Everyone
Sandara, Rosie, Cogwald and Conchobhar are all new recruits, standing in line next to you when the captain gave his speech. Conchobar was quick in the rigging and assigned a role as rigger, while the others are swabs.

Edward Irmington |

Lol, from a bruised cheekbone and jaw into a black eye?
"Ah, what can i say, Sandara is a beauty. As for a match against Dario, i'm sure we can sort something out.", Edward says with a smile.

Isaac Silvermane |

Isaac nods in thanks to Sandara. He then decides to make his way to Rosie. With as much confidence as he can, he approaches her. With a weary smile, he says, "Ahoy, Rosie. How ar' ye this dreary day?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Alabaster Cain |

Alabaster makes a quick run to Dario to let him know what he found out about Owlbear, and speaks.
Ahoy there Thunderfist, I be findin' out some bits o' words on Owlbear. He's fer bein' an officer, but only cause he's fer bein' strong, an' he's only out when there's a fight goin' on. Mayhaps there's fer bein' a place they be holdin' 'im till then. Mayhaps iffen ye can friendin' 'im some more, he can be helpin' us when Isaac be doin' 'is plan, see? Justa thought I be 'avin.
Then he heads back to his work, but not before stopping by to talk when he sees Conchobar.
'Ello there, Conchobar. We ain't fer havin tha chance ta talk yet. I be Alabaster. I be tryin' ta meet everyone what was pressed with me an' me friends.
He puts out his hand for a shake and smiles.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Alabaster's daytime action is to influence Conchobar.

Edward
"That would be great" Cogwald replies as he gets back to his work.
Isaac
Rosie is in the middle hold, where she tries to capture an escaped pig, which is kind of hard to do if you're a halfling. Meanwhile Arreta Bansion and Fipps Chumlet are having a great deal of fun at the show.
You decide to help her out and together you manage to catch the piglet and put it back in the cage.
"Son of a thricedamned whore! You freaking turds better move on before I decide to split that ugly head of yours as firewood!"
Rosie puts her hand on her throwing axe and Arreta and Fipps decide to seek some fun elsewhere. Rosie then turns to you.
"Dreary day my ass! I'd rather be out there in the rigging than trying my hand at animal husbandry down here. Thanks for your assistance! I never knew the bloody Silvermanes where actually farmers instead of great captains!"
Alabaster
Conchobhar Shortstone is a handsome gnome who wears a foppish purple hat, an eye patch, and a white silk shirt, and carries a dandyish cane.
His appearance is that of someone pretending to be a pirate, rather than a true buccaneer. He eyes you up and down and replies in an affectionate voice:
"Well met my fellow pirate! I appreciate to make your acquaintance. Say, would you like to throw some dice with me tonight?"

Isaac Silvermane |

Issac smiles at the sight of Rosie chasing the pig. Seeing Arreta and Fipps causes Isaac to frown. However, Rosie is who his attention should be on. He continues to the Middle Hold. He smiles at her and proceeds to help, cursing as the pig continues to elude them. Finally, the two manage to catch the pig and, with Isaac continuing to hold the squirming sow while she opens the gate, places it into the pen. Seeing Arreta and Fipps turn tail, Isaac smiles. "You sur' showed them. Migh' be thinkin' twice befor' crossin' ye." Issac chuckles at Rosie's joke. "Mayhaps they were. Nothin' is bein' known of the family befor' Sebastian. And there really is no way to track down all o' the family. We be spread so far and thin in the Shackles and, possibly, beyon'. So some maybe be makin' a livin' as farmers."
A serious look on his face, he kneels down on one knee and takes one of Rosie's hands in both of his. "Rosie. We may hav' known each other fer a shor' amoun' of time. But I hav' to be saying' this. You intrigue me, Rosie Cusswell. I've never met a girl like ye before'. What I ultimately be sayin' is... I'm beginnin' to have... stirrin's fer ye. Maybe even feelin's fer ye. I figure ye may wan' to be knowin' this. And I can't help but be wonderin' if ye be feelin' anything when we be together. Though, the answer ye may hav' be.... scarin' me."
Diplomacy (in case needed): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 If the +4 bonus to charisma checks from the rum ration still applies, then this is 27.
Also, I may be wrong, but from what I know should Dario have some kind of bonus from defeating Owlbear?

GM G |
Dario
It is obvious that after your fight with Owlbear the other deckhands pay you more respect than before.
Isaac
Rosie starts coughing while her lithe ears turn pink. "You @#$$@! Why are you doing this to me?! My world is turned upside down by being pressed into piracy and now you say ya want to be courting me!? *&$^#$!!! what's wrong with ya men?" she places her other hand atop yours and then seriously continues
"I like you Isaac, and my heart lifts when I see you at work in the rigging. I do not know if that is simply because you are my friend or if there is more. Can we just take time to see what happens please?"
she then gently removes her hands and moves up to the deck, you can hear the familiar cursing starting again as she finds out it still rains.
All: I am changing Ranak's investigation to a work diligently action, I do not want to assume what area he is investigating.
- - - - -
In the afternoon the ship is anchored in a wide bay. Because the rain is still pouring the rum is being given out in the main hold area.
Do you drink the rum (fort save) or do you try to get rid of it (stealth check)?
What's your nighttime action?

Edward Irmington |

Edward's probably going to fail the fort save.
Fort: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Since i have to get to cooking, he'll have some smalltalk with Cogwald about Riddleport and brawls.

Dario Ezequela |

Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
For the first time, Dario heads belowdecks for his nighttime action and spends some time with the rest of the crew. He laughs, jokes and arm wrestles anyone who wants to.
He's slowly coming to terms with the ordeal and realizing that he won't make it alone. He's open to any form of companionship, be it simply friendly or more.

Jesal doesn't drink, so he will attempt to stealth is way out of it yet again ... although he has yet to succeed at this!
Stealth: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
As for a nightime action, the druid is feeling a bit frisky and looking for somewhere other than his bunk to store his spears as well as finding some bargaining leverage.
Knowing from Ranak that Kroop is less than detailed in his work, he assumes he may be able to find some herbs or something of trade value in the galley and heads that way quietly.
Take 20 Perception = 28
Stealth: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

Isaac Silvermane |

Isaac cringes slightly as Rosie cusses him out. However, when she says her piece, Isaac gently smiles and says, "O' course." He does give a small chuckle at Rosie's exclamations regarding the weather.
Nighttime
Fortitude: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Isaac drinks his rum ration. Then, heeding Sandara's advice, he turns in early for the night. When he passes Alabaster, he whispers, "I'm turnin' in. Le' me know if anythin' interestin' happens."

Alabaster Cain |

Alabaster smiles at the gnome at the mention of dice.
Aye, wha pirate worth 'is salt'd be turnin' down a game o' dice?! I'm fer bein' there, tha' fer sure!
He goes back to his duties for the day.
Nightime Actions
Alabaster downs his grog with his usual gusto, and blocks the view of Salt's and switches the empty mug with his own, and downs it too. He then grabs Giffer and makes his way to the dice area, where he turns his night of gambling into quite a performance of bravado and merriment.
Aid Another on Salt's Stealth Check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Fortitude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
I Was hoping to help Jesal with an aid another action, but it didn't work... Sorry Jesal. I did my best. :(
The goal here is to try to "perform" while playing dice, by behaving in such a way that he puts everyone at ease, and shows everyone that he is in fact a pirate that enjoys partying and carousing. Think of it as a trust building exercise.
Perform: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Jesal manages to spill his drink without problem.
Evening / Night
"I will armwrestle you, Thunderfist" Cogward says as soon as it becomes obvious that Dario is open for such entertainment. A few swabs quickly roll out a barrel into the open area in the main hold. The barrel top is covered in broken glass, with two small free areas for two elbows.
Cogward places his elbow and sits ready for Dario.
Dario: Strength Check please
Jesal has been talking to Ranak and knows where to find the spices. On the wall he also notices three harpoons, a spear and a grappling hook attached to a rope.

GM G |
I think your previous GM misunderstood the effect that drinking rum should have: not only do you earn an alchemical bonus to Cha, you also suffer con damage and become fatigued. And those effects happen even if you make your fortitude safe. See gamemastery guide, section on drugs.

Hmm, don't need more spears but that's good to know. Don't know how to use a harpoon, but someone could use that to hunt or fight underwater. Grapple may be handy in the future. Let's grab that.
Thinking to himself, Salt grabs the grapple and a harpoon and then sneaks out before he is seen.

Dario eagerly grasps Cogward's hand and smiles heartingly. "Well met!"
Strength: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
"My strength has yet to fail me before... but I have a feeling you are quite strong too my friend!"

GM G |
Then what's the use of the con check at all.
Any idea what happens when you drink a big glass of rum every night and you suddenly stop?
Dario and Cogward both struggle to beat the other man. After half a minute Cogward smiles and with a sudden move manages to push Dario's wrist into the glass shards.
Damage: 1d2 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Dario's fist bleeds profusely. Cogward releases Dario's fist quickly and helps bandage it.
"Good sport my friend, you almost had me there. Armwrestling is something else than a fistfight. I think you would beat me there, going by what happened yesterday"
After that you all retire. During the night you notice that the ship pulls harder on its anchor then before.

Day 7
Isaac and Edward do not feel that good
Fortitude saves please, Isaac get's a +2 from Sandara's aid.
It is obvious that a storm is building, wind is picking up and the rain lashes your face.
Master Plugg gleefully assigns your tasks
"Silvermane, you are on lookout duty! No place like a heaving crow's nest when you're sick. And do not dare to sully my decks with your vomit!"
60 ft climb, DC12 climb checks and then a DC12 perception check
"Swabbies, you can scour the deck! This night I want them to look pristine! Not you Alabaster! You are my runner today and have to pass messages between me and the other officers. And be quick at it, as a matter of fact I want you to run to the poop deck and ask the master Scourge if he needs anything."
Dario, Edward and Jesal: DC10 Str or Con check.
Alabaster: DC10 Acrobatics and DC10 Con check.
When Ranak comes into the galley he immediately notices that it is one of those days. Krook is sitting on the ground, chickens at his feet and a large mug of rum in his hands. He immediately pours Ranak a mug and presses it into his hand. "Nows, tis is a stromy day, dis I tel ya about the taime I forgeited my life in a game of poker? Thas bastard is vaiting for a momenz of hiz choosing to kill me. Not thas I woulz mind, live is sesspit my boy!"
Ranak has to drink a mug of rum (fort save)
Daytime action time! Ranak can take 2.

Edward Irmington |

Any idea what happens when you drink a big glass of rum every night and you suddenly stop?
I can imagine, fortunately i don't drink, so luckily i lack the experience.
Con: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 2 - 1 = 19Fort: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (9) + 2 - 1 = 10
For daytime action, Edward will go to Sandara again.
"That was quite a thing there, between Dario and Cogwald. Perhaps you can close the rips in Dario's hand?
Aside from his hand, i wondered, do you have a dream of the future? Something to see or achieve?"

Alabaster Cain |

After the arm wrestling, Alabaster will cheer for Cogward, and then move to Dario.
Ahoy there, tha Queen be takin' care o' those wha be livin' tha sweet life!
He holds Dario's hand up, and heals it.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
He then spends the rest of the night carousing and flirting with Giffer.
Next Day
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Constitution: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Alabaster, having plenty of time to explore while running messages, explores the hold a couple of times, making sure as to never stay in there long enough to get caught. His first order of business though, is finding Scourge like he was told and finding out what he needs.

Dario Ezequela |

I'll assume the healing can be "postponed" to after the shift OR retroactively assume Dario was just feeling under the weather and it wasn't his hand the problem.
"Thank you friend, I sometimes forget that we must not always wait days to heal when we have friends such as you."

GM G |
Alabaster: do you explore the main or lower hold? And if you explore the lower hold are you trying to open other crew's lockers? They are all locked so I would need disable device to tamper with the lock(s) or a strenght check to break it(s). You can investigate 5 lockers at most.
Giffer flirts back eagerly.
Edward, I do not think that asking a favor from a friend counts as a daytime action, so you still have one to make
Edward dex damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Edward con damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Sandara takes a good look at Edward "Allow me, I think you are suffering from the same illness as Isaac"
She places her hand on your brow and nods "if you would take my advice, try to get some more rest and hit the sack early this evening. Your body needs its energy to recuperate. I will tend to Isaac later."
She then places a quick kiss on your mouth before moving of "take care of yourself, I am not done with you yet."
You and Isaac get a +4 to your fort save on morning 8, Isaac that also goes for your fort save this morning instead of the +2.

Edward Irmington |

I made a 1st successful save vs filth fever when Goliath asked for it, is it invalid now? That'd be a shame. :)
Edward would still chat up with Sandara. The roots are there, he's going to make that grow. ^^
As per mentioned above, topic will be future dreams and goals.
Which i'm uninspired on for now, so i'll skip the conversation this time.

Alabaster Cain |

Catching a look at Isaac and Edward, Medal recognizes the signs of developing illness. Seeing Sandara tend to Edward, Salt approaches Isaac.
"Dis one be seeing ya be getting da sickness. Be helping ya a bit"
Untrained Heal ... treat disease: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Edward Irmington |

Treat DiseaseTo treat a disease means to tend to a single diseased character. Every time the diseased character makes a saving throw against disease effects, you make a Heal check. If your Heal check exceeds the DC of the disease, the character receives a +4 competence bonus on his saving throw against the disease.
Time: 10 minutes.

GM G |
I think that Jesal meant long term care
Diseases
Most diseases can be cured by a number of consecutive saving throws. For filth fever this number is bigger than 1.
Skill Checks
Reminder: when your character is not in immediate danger or distracted you can take 10 on skill checks.
--- Isaac ---
Disease: Dex Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Disease: Con Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
The distance is 60 ft, so I needed 8 climb checks to go up and 8 to get down again provided you move at normal climbing speed (1/4 of normal speed).
With your +9 modifier you can easily take 10 on all of them and succeed. You can also increase your speed to 1/2 normal speed by taking -5 to the check and still easily succeed by taking 10.
One way or the other; you are not at risk and can easily climb up and down again.
Conchabar finishes his task in the rigging and then moves up to the crow's nest "Aye, what do you want?" he does not wait for an answer and follows up with a question"Is it true that you're really a Silvermane? Why aren't you sailing on your da's ship then? And did your great great grandfather really make out with a mermaid?"
--- Alabaster ---
The hold could hold a considerable amount of cargo, but is currently mostly empty save for 14 pigs in a cage.Stored near the mainmast are two light ballistas, a disassembled light catapult, and 12 barrels containing 20 gallons of oil each.
In the forward section of the hold a flight of wooden stairs climbs up to the officers’ quarters, while a second set of stairs descends into the lower hold.
Another flight of stairs in the aft section next to the galley leads up to the captain’s quarters. The stairs to both the officers' and the captain's quarters are topped by a closed hatch.
--- Jesal ---
Give me a wild empathy check to influence Pluck.

Alabaster Cain |

That morning, Alabaster would have bee more than willing to help out the infected with a heal check.
Heal: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Once the hold has been explored, Alabaster finishes up his message running.
Exploring the lower hold would be a second daytime action, which he can't take, correct? Instead, he finds Giffer and spends the rest of his free time chatting with her.

@Jesal & Alabaster
Isaac gives a weak smile to the druid trying to help him. "Thank ye, Mr. Salt. I be fearin' that it may be gettin' worse. I'm going to be needin' all th' help I can get. You, Sandara, Alabaster." He turns to see Alabaster trying to help. "Well, speak of th' Devil and he shall com'. Thank ye."
@Conchobar
Isaac leans back on the railing of the Nest. "I just be wantin' to talk." At the gnome's inquisitiveness, the Soon-to-be Captain chuckles. "Aye. I be a Slivermane." He takes off his tricorne and his blue bandana to help emphasize his point. Putting on his headwear, he says with a downtrodden expression, "As for me Pa, well... me Pa and Ma died when I was fourteen. Th' ship was raided by a Chel ship." His sadden expression suddenly turns into a look of nostalgia and whimsy. "Ah, me Pa and Ma. Me Pa was an expert Captain and the most ferocious ship boarder ye've ever seen. Me Ma, a Mwangi self-exile. A druidic mistress, capable of manipulating th' weather and commandin' the sea. Servin' as th' Navigator and First Mate. So in love, were they." He shakes his head before going back to his tale. "Anyway, I was th' only to be survivin' th' raid. I be rescued by a passion' Shackle origin junk headin' back to Queen Bes. I was then raised by a friend of me parents, Peggy Robin. So, I've been training' to live up to th' family legacy. I'm only here due to bein' press-ganged. But, in th' grand scheme o' things, it's not all bad."
He then chuckles. "As for Great Great Grandpa Sebastian and th' mermaid, well. Tales of Sebastian be so many and so outlandish that it be hard to tell and be separatin' truth and fable. But, given how wild and adventurous he was durin' his tenure as a pirate, it may be possible for him to hav' made out wit' a mermaid. Hells, some say that we Silvermanes are descended from Besmara herself." He gives a smile. "So, how'd you wind up on here, Concobar?"

"I noticed that you seem interested in Rosie, want to make a wager who will bed her first? I will stake 5 gold on that it is me."
Jesal
Ranak retrieves the medicinal herbs for you.
All: did I miss any loose ends? After Isaac and Conchabar finish their conversation we will move on to bloody hour

Isaac Silvermane |

Isaac smiles at the gnome. "Aye. Though the view ain't bein' so good at this time." Though, at Conchobar's idea of a wager on Rosie's affection, the Would-Be Captain frowns. "No thank you. I believe that no one should be putting' a wager on one's affections. Seems to be rather disrespectful. I care abou' 'er."

GM G |
"I care abou' 'er."
Conchobar grasps his crotch and replies "So do I" he laughs a filthy laugh, tilts his foppish purple hat in a salute and descends from the crow's nest.
Bloody Hour
The ship's bell tolls and dinner is served by Ranak. After dinner you have to stand in line for your rum ration and after that you are free to do as you want.
Do you drink your rum (Fortitude Save) or try to ditch it (Stealth check)?
Edward
When waiting to get your dinner Crimson “Cog” Cogward bumps into you when the ship heaves in a wave. He whispers "for you and your sick friend" and then moves on. Later you notice two small potions in your belt pouch that weren't there before.
All:
You can take your evening's action(s). Jesal, if you want to treat Edward and Isaac it takes the evening / night actions of the three of you.

Isaac Silvermane |

Isaac frowns at the Conchobar's laugh and gesture. As the gnome climbs down, Isaac stares at him with an emotionless expression on his face.
Nighttime Action
Stealth: 1d20 ⇒ 1 or Take 10 (if I can): 10 + 2 - 2 = 10. Dang. Someone want to swoop in and save the day? PC or NPC? Either way it seems like I'm boned.
Isaac tries to pour the rum out. But in his condition, he has the subtly of a rampaging orc.
Hearing that Salt might have something that could help them, he heads over to Edward and Jesal. As he's being treated, he says to his allies of a week, "I don't like Conchobar. He tried to start a wager between the two of us on Rosie's affections. I genuinely car' abou' Rosie. But he be seein' 'er as solely a bedmate. A prize. I be havin' the feelin' he migh' try somethin'. Can you mates be helpin' me keep an eye on 'I'm?" He stares intensely at Conchobar, trying to get a read off of him.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 Take 10 (if I can): 10 + 5 = 15.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 Take 10 (if I can): 10 + 1 = 11.

Alabaster Cain |

Alabaster, seeing Isaac stumbling in his sickness, swigs his rum in one gulp, and then moves in to disguise the switching of cups.
Stealth: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Isaac me friend! I ain't fer seein ye all day an' ye still be lookin' sickly! Lemme see if I can be 'elpin' ye!
As he speaks, he positions himself so that no one can see him exchange his empty cup for Isaac's full one. After his ruse, he listens to the soon-Captain and nods.
Aye, I can be fer watchin' 'im, or scarin' 'im off. Which ye like better?
Nightime Action-Perform
When Salt takes Isaac and Edward off for treatment, Alabaster climbs up onto a table and bangs two empty grog cups together until everyone is silent.
Now be listenin' up, ye scalawags!! It's bein time fer a story of the faith fer ye lot, so pay attention or tha Queen'll be turnin ye into bootstraps!
Long ago, there was two pirates onna ship. Both wanted tha' captains hat, so they asked tha Queen who was more worthy. She shook her head, and told them tha' it wasn't 'er decision, but tha' o' tha' crew. She said inna week's time, whoever tha' crew voted fer would have 'er blessin'.
They left tha' temple an' went back to tha' ship, and told tha' crew, and told them why they should have all tha' votes.
Tha' first, 'e told 'em tha' 'e would rule tha' right way, by fear, punishment, an' ruthlessness. 'is way, he said, would make them all rich.
Tha second, 'e said 'e would lead tha crew like 'a family, an' make sure all were treated fairly. Suren' there'd be punishin', but tha' punishment would be fittin tha crime, an wouldn't be fer given iffin it weren't earned.
The crew was fer bein' split in 'alf, an no one had more votes than tha other, so they weren't fer knowin wha ta do. Good fer them then, when they was fer bein caught by a Chel huntin' ship.
Tha ruthless captain's crew split in 'alf again right there, one side leavin' an jumpin ship, an' tha' other 'alf only fought ta live, an' only fer themselves. They was all killed to tha last.
Tha second though, havin' become a family, fraught fer each other, pickin' each other up when they stumbled an' watchin' each other's backs. After hours of grueling battle, they were fer winnin'. Tha Queen, she was fer keepin' 'er word, an' blessed tha young captain, turnin' 'is hair silver as tha moon. Silvermane, she was fer callin' 'em, and blessed 'is family line forever more.
Tha moral is simple. Ye can't survive on the sea iffen ye ain't livin fer each other, an ye ain't havin' tha Queen on yer side.
Perform: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
With that, he jumps off the table and caroused with Giffer until bedtime.

Isaac Silvermane |

When Alabaster asks what to do about Conchobar, the good Captain smiles and says, "Jus' be watchin' him. If ther' be wickedness in his actions, though, then we mus' act." At the warpriest's story, Isaaac smiles to himself. "A good tale, to be sur'."
