Elliana shares what she knows about the Monkey Goblins with the others.
Feel free to open that spoiler.
Elliana moves over to Rrriiip and hands the Grippli a waterskin, patting him on the shoulder consolingly. "Withdrawl is not a pretty thing friend. You should try get some sleep."
With that she takes a seat nearby, examining one of her sabers with interest.
GM:
The water has been poisoned with Id Moss - DC 14 Con to save. Onset is 10 minutes. Effect is 1d3 Int per minute for 6 minutes. Elliana has poisoned the saber on her lap with Blue Whinnis - DC 14 Con. Onset is immediate. 1 Con Damage per round for 2 rounds. Secondary effect is unconscious for 1d3 hours.
Xalyth settles herself into a comfortable spot. "Kayla, let's get some rest. Then we can do some recon during the darkest hours overnight." She looks around at the others. "Who'll take first watch?"

want to know the results of the Sense Motive first, then Kayla will get some rest. well depending somewhat on the results.

Zaphani was pleased with the decision to hold off on the attack as it didn't seem they would do well without further planning. Looking around as other started settling in, Zaphani agreed to take first watch, taking a position that allowed her a good vantage point. She was curious about why Kayla was eyeing the grippli so carefully, but she did not question it as the frog had been rather shifty the whole trip. She was still curious why He Who Walks in Blood wanted him killed, but that didn't really matter. Killing him wouldn't be a problem and, as it was beginning to appear, might be a blessing for his tribe, even if they didn't know it yet.
Female Human Ninja / Level 2 / Hp - 20 [20] / AC - 18 / T - 14 / FF - 14 / Fort +1 - Ref +7 - Will +0 / Initiative +5 / Perception +5
Sense Motive Rrriiip-1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4
Elliana shrugs when the frog doesn't drink, but sighs inwardly in frustration.
Sense Motive Kayla-1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14
Hopefully that would be enough to catch the movement towards Rrriip? Elliana was actively waiting to pounce on the frog anyway so... If not, just ignore my next part.
Elliana flicked her gaze to the Grippli, before standing up slowly and stretching, her hand tightening on the saber she had been examining earlier. She cast her gaze to the little gnome for a moment before rolling her shoulders.
Elliana should be within reach of the Grippli, she set up her gear beside him, within reach of him. If he had taken the poison, she wanted to attack him straight afterwards.
Rrriiip can not take anymore and lunges at Kayla and Elliana when they approach him. It is his doom. Their readied attacks with poisoned blades are too much for him in this weakened state and he collapses dead. 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
You all get a sense of warmth as you watch the blood leave Rrriiip's body. It truly feels this death was divine will.
Male Human (Azlanti) Wizard 1 / Cleric of Achaekek 2
Rakus was half way to getting up and loosing a spell when the two ladies take care of things. Oh well, that was his fate and his usefulness was very much lacking so it was coming all the quicker.
"Well I guess getting things done before bed rather then in the morning is better. That said would you mind cleaning the body and making a stretcher to carry it."
He gives a slight smile as if it was all business as usual.
"Dear Rrriiip is not done helping us just yet. Once I have the right spells in the morning, we will have need of him again."
He goes about examining the body for anything useful that the dead frog kin no longer needs. Using spells of detection while he was at it.
Female Viskanya Rogue (Unchained Roof Runner) 3 | HP 27/27
Zaphani glances over from her watch post when the frog lunges at her compatriots. As he was dead before she even stood up, she simply strolled over for the sole purpose of dipping the points of her swords into the freshly spilled blood. Achaekek had blessed this kill, the Grippli's blood was a blessing.
Rrriiip is wearing a +1 Leaf Armor. His net is masterwork and his Trident is +1. He has 20 gold on him and an empty vial that looks like it held his shiver supply. In regular items he had a spy glass, a Masterwork Backpack, compass, silk rope, and water/rations for a week.
General Recap- The group has killed Rrriiip, the Grippli Tracker that was sentenced to die by Acheakek himself. Many of you have inferred that this was probably due to the discord he brought to his people with his drug addiction.
You can see the monkey goblins below you from the raised cliff Rrriiip brought you to, to show you their encampment. He recommended collecting "shiny rocks" from the coast line to the North East, but there are dangers on the way. The Monkey Goblin chief is your target, and some of you have had the idea to simply sneak in and eliminate him, but with that there is increased risk.
You have fewer close calls then you expect being in their home territory. The Monkey Goblins seems having some sort of inner stryfe. By body language and tones in the grunts of their primitive goblin dialect you make out that there is some contention in the status of their leader. Yoki may not be the rightful leader. You suddenly get an epiphany that you know this must be true, because He Who Walks In Blood does not deal in regicide. Even a lowly tribe must have a leader or chaos will ensue. There are dozens of goblins that you see and there could be dozens more hiding underground.
Slipping back into camp, Kayla lets those still asleep a chance to rest. but once everyone is up and about, Kayla gives a complete de-brief of what she discovered.
see spoiler above
I think this division in the ranks could be used to our advantage. I should be able to point out those that are against Yoki but I don't have any means to communicate to them.
Female Viskanya Rogue (Unchained Roof Runner) 3 | HP 27/27
Zaphani seems deep in thought as Kayla delivers her report. This information did sound like something they could use.
"Fascinating. If we could somehow make contact with those against him or whoever the 'rightful leader' is, we could use this to our advantage. If not, we could try and find a way to send a message anyone understands, get them to openly fight.
Male Human (Azlanti) Wizard 1 / Cleric of Achaekek 2
Rakus listened and thought after he had prayed and studied for his spells.
"Hmmm, well I speak Goblin. If we can tell which are opposed to Yoki and speak with them. We could arrange for their aid in taking his head. That would be better then going through the trouble of arranging for Rrriiip's tribe to aid us."
As to Kayla's thoughts on the mantis.
"The red mantis does not approve of regicide. A tribal leader does not fall under that, nor do warlords and their ilk which in the case of goblins are one and the same. Perhaps his method of attempted ascension was provocative, normally the strongest goblin leads. If a weak yet clever goblin used trickery to attempt to usurp or bred dissent then I can see the insult. But that is nether here or there. Anyway to tell Yoki's opposition from his supporters?"
Female Human Ninja / Level 2 / Hp - 20 [20] / AC - 18 / T - 14 / FF - 14 / Fort +1 - Ref +7 - Will +0 / Initiative +5 / Perception +5
Elliana frowned before standing slowly, stretching. "We should go find those shiny stones, it will help for us to make a connection with the tribe. We can poison him and be sure that maybe at least half of them will support us, right?"
survival (untrained):1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 2 = 11 the dice gods do not favor this game at all, I would have rather just gone in the camp and taken out the target and be done with it...
Oh well to late now...
Kayla tries to get her bearings trying to find the way to the sea. If we can reach the ocean we should be alright.
Kayla tries to mark some sort of trail to get back to the monkey goblin tribe.
turning toward what's left of the group, something is coming.
Kayla tries to get up a tree as the sounds get closer.
climb:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
almost feel like taking a level of ranger just to get out of this mess
From your elevated position you can see that Orc Beast Riders are passing by. Six of them riding Dinosaur type beasts, not to dissimilar to the one you killed before. You recall Rrriiip mentioning them.
Kayla quickly scurries down far enough to warn the others. Orc riders six of them coming from that direction. indicating the direction they are approaching from.
I think we could use them for assistance to the beach.
I will await in the tree, ready in case negotions become, well, aggressive
***************Level 3 After Action Review******************************
Best Role playerThis level I am giving it to Weon. She put a lot of time in her posts and I appreciate that. I have enjoyed all of your role playing though. Weon receives one Hero Point
Honorable Mention For good role playing and choosing a little more difficult character to play in terms of her situation I grant Kayla a hero point for playing a Turn Coat and walking that fine line with grace.
MVP Ok, now its your turn. Everyone can vote, but you can't vote for yourself. I will be a tie breaker. Who was MVP this level and why?
Hmm, this is...unexpected and a bit disconcerting. I wasn't aware there was going to be a semi-competive aspect to the game.
I am sorry I did mention this briefly in a response on the first page of discussion when levels came up. AARs are a military thing meant to strengthen teams. I want my players to compete on an RP level rather than a PVP level, and you get a say in who gets MVP and why. Maybe you felt someone else RPed better, or someone else was more of a boon to the party in general. What ever criteria you want. Hopefully this is a positive thing, if ends up not being that I will discontinue it.
I blocked you Michael Meunier, I get it you don't like the AAR I don't need 5 messages explaining that( if you typed as much in character you would have gotten it). How does everyone else feel? Do you like AARs or not. I will discontinue them if that is the general consensus.
Take your time leveling up. We have a lot of people out for various reasons.
As in they are no longer playing, or they're just unavailable at the moment?
As for the MVP vote, it's tough to say much at this point; we've only had two encounters; one lasted a round, and the other was halted thanks to Perception. Given that however, I'd have to make my vote for Rakus. He was the only one to act in both "rounds," he bore the burden of the artifact with priestly duty, and he found the loot eggs.

Not the first game were this system has been used for me and personally I don't mind. As long as things remain fair and balanced as a whole then more power to you. A little recognition to those that put the extra effort in is great in my book. So long as you don't forget us little people. ;)

I can appreciate that, and the MVP is to give you guys a voice in it also.
Don't get me wrong; I extremely appreciate the compliments. However, it is -just- a Hero Point. It's not as though I got a superior magic item, or an inherent bonus to one of my stats.
I'm not sure if I've read the PF version (I mean, I did on the SRD, but in a book, with flavor text included) or the 3.5 one, but either way, IIRC, they're supposed to be dispensed when a character does something extraordinary.
I have no problems with the system; if I could add one further caveat though, it would be that the "MVP" for a particular level be distinct from the other recipients. That way the points are spread more evenly, and those that receive them (myself included) have to choose more carefully when they get used.
Each character begins play with 1 hero point, regardless of her level. In addition, whenever a character gains a level, she earns an additional hero point. Aside from these basic rules, awarding additional hero points is up to the GM. The following options are just some of the ways that a GM might award additional hero points.
Character Story: GMs can award a hero point for the completion of a written character backstory. This reward encourages players to take an active role in the history of the game. In addition, the GM can use this backstory to generate a pivotal moment for your character concerning his past. When this key event is resolved, the GM can reward another hero point. Alternatively, the GM might award a hero point for painting a miniature or drawing a character portrait in the likeness of your character, helping the rest of the group visualize your hero.
Completing Plot Arcs: The GM might award a hero point to each of the PCs who were involved in completing a major chapter or arc in the campaign story. These hero points are awarded at the conclusion of the arc if the PCs were successful or advanced the story in a meaningful way.
Faith: In a campaign where the gods play an important role in every character's life, hero points might represent their favor. In such a setting, the GM can award hero points to characters whenever they uphold the tenets of their faith in a grand way, or whenever they take on one of the faith's major enemies. Such hero points might be temporary, and if not spent on the task at hand, they fade away.
Group Service: The GM can award hero points for acts outside the game as well. Buying pizza for the group, helping to clean up afterwards, or even hosting the game for a night might be worth a hero point. This sort of hero point should be given out of generosity, not as a payment.
Heroic Acts: Whenever a character performs an exceptionally heroic act, she can be awarded a hero point. This might include anything from slaying an evil dragon when the rest of the group has fled to rescuing townsfolk from a burning building despite being terribly wounded. It does not have to be related to combat. Convincing the reticent king to send troops to help with a bandit problem or successfully jumping a wide chasm might earn a character a hero point, depending on the circumstances. Note that a hero point should only be awarded if the PC involved did not spend a hero point to accomplish the task.
Return from the Dead: When a character dies, she does not lose any hero points she has accumulated. If she died with no hero points remaining, she gains 1 hero point when she is brought back from the dead through powerful magic, such as raise dead or resurrection.
Maximum Hero Points: Characters can have no more than 3 hero points at any one time. Excess hero points are lost.
Xalyth you hit the nail on the head. Its to better the team as a whole you find someone who does something you like and you want the rest of the team to rise to that challenge.
Weon that is a good caveat, we can make that if you earned a Hero point for another reason you are exempt from receiving the MVP. I posted when Hero points can be given from the PRD. Specifically yours goes with the roleplaying of your faith, and the banter back and forth with Rakus. You put a lot of time and effort into your posts, and I appreciate that.

First off, I apologize if I offended with my, well, rant. I've just had too many games I've enjoyed ruined when competition got into them. Didn't want to see that happen again and I went a tad far with it.
My con was only through Sunday and I'm just about recovered mentally and caught up on my sleep. However I'll probably be limited to a post a day as work just got nutty.
Hello all, been out all day... not really important where...
As far as this Hero point stuff. its all cool I really don't care much about weather Kayla gets it or not. I am just happy to play this character in a game that isn't about to die.
as for the vote I guess Rakus is my vote. though the religious banter grows tiresome for Kayla as the character, it is cool by me the player.
also As Kayla is with this Half-Orc fellow,, I assume she did not go with the head priest(ess) she may need to be filled in later if it is important enough to share that is.
@Zaphani You had 18 temp hit points from the banquet before we went on the trail into town, and while those surely have faded by now, you would also be at full health, given the dinosaur only did 8 damage to you.
Not saying you wouldn't be "injured," but your health bar should be full.

On the fourth day you are all surprisingly selected to be the recruits that make the pilgrimage to the Pagoda of the Mantis. *One of you is given a sacred chest that weighs 2 lbs, which is probably magically enhanced to make it weight less. This is to be given to the priest of the pagoda in Ilizmagorti so that the festival can officially begin in the city. Tell me who is carrying it.****Hint-A true follower of Achaekek would be advised***
You all benefit from a Hero's Feast Granting you 18 temporary hit points which should last until you reach the pagoda. You are given a final warning about some of the dangers that exist on the road to the City including Assassin Vines, Dinosaurs, and Monkey Goblins.
Just wanted to point it out; I'm sure I've mucked something up during this last level. Had to edit her three times consecutively because I kept forgetting to change skill ranks, lol!
Just wanted to let you all know, I'm in the middle of this big storm that's supposed to hit tomorrow; there's a chance I won't have power and thus internet. I'll post tonight, and as best I can over the weekend.
Yeah, we're "only" expecting a foot, and if it's soft and loose like it should be, it won't be that bad and we might not even lose power. But I also live in a rural area; we lose power sometimes when winds get bad, so it's a crap shoot.
Oh man; I'd apparently been typing up my post for over 40 minutes. I previewed and saw GM and Kayla's posts. I'm going to post it anyway, but gotta edit it a bit now.
GM: We got a +1 weapon, which I assume could have been a sawtoothed sabre right? And in addition, we got 3k? But magic items are iffy.
Could we buy another +1 sabre from the pagoda mantis?
Poisons are available. I see Large Scorpion Venom, is that the one you are referring too? It is available. Any poison from the Core that cost under 500gp I would say is fairly easily accessible. Anything that cost more will have to be made special and could take a few days.
The weapon can be a Sawtooth Sabre Yes. And 3k gold yes, I believe you could get a second +1 with that. You all should be at wealth per level now. Things will be a bit more regular after this, its an odd start to a campaign, but needed to be tweeked a bit to make it work.

As a reminder, if you really need something poisoned, just ask Zaphani to spit on it :P. I'll figure out what I need, probably some upgrades to armor. Any problem getting Mithril armor?

that sounds nice and all, but due to Kayla's nature, she probably would not ask that. she still is in constant fear that she could be the next target at any time. and as such she tries to be a little more self reliant (it is kind of my interpretation of the drawback)
@GM-Gathrix: Would they have hand crossbows? Those seem like fairly standard assassin gear.

If she's actually offering that IC, Areum would love to have her poison one of her hopefully-soon-to-be-purchased bolts, in case she ever needs to peg someone.

Sadly she only gets one of those a day for now, so she'll probably use it on her own weapons. I already have a few poisons to supplement it as well and might pick up more.
Buy:
Mithral Buckler
Quick Runner's Shirt
Cloak of Resistance +1
Sell:
Light Crossbow (replaced by +1 version)
Sell that egg too; the extra one. We don't know what it's worth, but I'd wager it's probably close to a CLW wand, which Rakus and Areum can both use with no check. Or if you wanted the theme, you could get an Infernal Healing wand. Then we can save our potions for emergencies like we're supposed to and have a nice OOCombat heal.
@GM-Gathrix: Does that sound about right, or do you need one of us to make a check of some kind on the egg?
Edit: and also can we buy a wand, lol. Forgot to ask that part!
Ha! That's not a bad idea, if the campaign will have periods of "Six months pass; what did you do?" Otherwise we're talking about at least a year before it would be of useful size; there was a chart somewhere I can go find if necessary. We'd be better off, if we want to go that route, to sell it to a trainer +some gp for a trained adult.
