You turn to the south, moving carefully. The passage soon turns to the west and south again and goes about 60 feet where a cave-in has happened. Inspecting the rubble you realize that it will be impossible to clear enough to pass and you must turn around.

This room contains 5 circular pools, each of which is 5 ft. in diameter and has a 1 ft. tall stone lip. Once you enter the room, you notice a hole beside the north door of the room; it was obviously once a much smaller murder hole used to guard the door, but it has been partially battered away, and the opening is now about one foot by two
feet large.
After you enter the room and look around from out the murder hole comes an insectoid creature that has two pairs of bat wings, a tangle of thin legs, and a needle-sharp proboscis.

Jokbur 'The Thorn' Oakenshield |

KN:nature: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Jokbur relates, "This flying creature is a magical stirge. They travel in large colonies. The long proboscis of the stirge allows it to attach to its victim, making it extremely difficult to remove as they drain blood from their victims. If a victim dies before a stirge is satiated, it detaches and seeks a new target."
"I would expect more to follow this one, so polearms out and ready."
Jokbur nods to Herman and Jonas with confidence.

Hermann von Rabenstrange |

Round 1
Seeing the giant bug drop out of the hole, Hermann moved to clear himself and the others some space to fight, his longspear thrusting out...
Attack (Longspear, Power Attack): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
... but the grotesque-ness insect through off his focus, causing the razor-sharp point to come nowhere near the thing itself.

Jonas Hearth |

Realizing it would be folly to swing his burning polearm at the bug on Hermann's back, and seeing the potential danger of more of those things coming out of that hole, Jonas says "Qui, think you can kill that bug without hurting Hermann?" and moves closer the hole the second one came out of.
Ready action, hit anything that comes out of that hole. Then, AoOs as well.

Jokbur 'The Thorn' Oakenshield |

Jokbur realizes he is saved from harm by Hermann's thrust, and gives a quick bow to Hermann. Trusting others to handle the stirge on Hermann, Jokbur prepares an arrow.
Ready attack vs first emerging stirge.
hit/damage: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 171d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Herman/Jonas - may want to prepare AoOs/readied attacks in spoilers. With combat reflexes, I think multiple AoOs could be spoilered.

Quirmydt Dephroug |

Qui moves over and leaps up and stabs at the stirge on Hermann's back.
Move to M41. - I should be able to move through Jokbur as the stirge is grappling and should not get an AoO.

Crit confirm:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
As I go before Edmund, he should not have to use his magic missile this round.

Quirmydt Dephroug |

Not sure if you want round 3 actions, or actions for the next 3 rounds. But here are 3 rounds of AoO/Readied actions from Qui.
Round 2

Hopefully the rest of you have more success as those are some pretty weak rolls.

GM Blood |

OK, Rounds 2 and 3 are covered by melee, but Edmund uses a magic missile in round 4 to kill off a stirge. Please note that Edmund, Ariella you don't use any flame bolt
After the 5 stirges come out, no more stirge emerge from the hole.
This room contains 5 circular pools, each of which is 5 ft. in diameter and has a 1 ft. tall stone lip. Once you enter the room, you notice a hole beside the north door of the room; it was obviously once a much smaller murder hole used to guard the door, but it has been partially battered away, and the opening is now about one foot by two feet large.
Re-description of the room, combat map has the pools located on it.

Hermann von Rabenstrange |

When he thinks no one is looking, Hermann makes superstitious, warding gestures toward the pool.

GM Blood |

All Pools are moderate strength except the last pool listed which is very faint.
The pool closest to you detects as Divination School
The pool to the north in the "nook" (H&I/45&46) detects as Illusion School
The pool to the South-east of that (L&M/47&48) detects as Necromancy School
The pool to the south of that one (P&Q/47&48) detects as Transmutation School
The last pool to the south in the "Nook" (T&U/45&46) detects as Necromancy School

Quirmydt Dephroug |

Start with the necromantic one. Lets see if we can get a vampire in the party.

Jokbur 'The Thorn' Oakenshield |

After drinking from the first one, and having a vendetta against undead, Jokbur declares, "No sense drinking further, as I have no idea what has happened from this divination pool. If our arcane and divine magic experts are stumped too, I am ready to continue exploring. No way I touch the necromatic ones."

GM Blood |

Anyone else?
I should say since I kind of missed Jokbur's post about immersing an arrow in each one. When he gets within 5' of the pool at L&M/47&48 (The northern one farthest to the east) he gets an overwhelming sense of fear from the pool and flees it for 3 rounds. The same happens to anyone else who gets within 5' of it

Quirmydt Dephroug |

Not sure what happened to our academic mage, but he has not posted in almost a week. DM Blood, should I roll for him, or do you want to DMPC his rolls. I assume he would have done knowledge(arcana) +10 and a spellcraft +9 rolls.

Edmund Gwenn |

Sorry, all. Still here, just fighting compter troubles.
Edmund looks over the pools with interest, casting his own detect magic to examine the auras.
Knowledge: Arcana: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Knowledge (Dungeoneering): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
He notes Jokbur's flight from the area with grim bemusement.
"One would think that the necromantic pool would be the one to exude an aura of fear like that," he says to nobody in particular. "Jokbur, did you see anything...a vision...an image...or was it just overwhelming fear?"

Quirmydt Dephroug |

I thought it was Bombur, not Thorin, er The Thorn, who jumped . . . or was it fell . . . into the water.
