About Zhong Daxia the MonkeyAppearance, Personality, Sword Style:
Appearance
Zhong Daxia is a tall but chubby man whose skin shines a sort of golden hue, and eyes glow with a light brighter than just his damning curiosity. He has wild dark hair pulled back by a ponytail- just respectable enough to be passable for a ronin such that the sword at his hip doesn't look altogether out of place. He wears a dark blue dress, with white underclothes. He bears talismans which relay some form of priesthood, of northern origins to those who know the subleties and nuances. He carries himself with an approachable aura, light-hearted and always smiling. Personality
The Mortifying Sword
Zhong Daxia implements a ruddy Nagamaki with this style, serving him to great effect. He is able to study his opponents, playfully interacting with them, deducing their strengths and weaknesses. Testing the waters by splashing, so to speak. Then, as sudden as a hurricane, he will flood his enemies, surprising and emaciating their being in one dark moment. Mixing his cruel sword with the mystic powers of his priesthood, Zhong Daxia defies the pious proud, to the glory of the immortal trickster Sun Wukong. Backstory:
Zhong Daxia was a marked blessing upon his family. When he was born, he was healthy, male, and godtouched. The clan his family served was successful in their business, and lost very few men to the dramas between lords. His father was given an abundance of wealth; servants, horses, estate, rice wines, gold. However, there was an ill omen which followed the golden son's birth; his mother died in childbirth. In all the blessing his father gained, he counted it as loss. The face of his wife was gone from him forever, save in the glowing face of his golden son. As he medicated himself from the loss of his muse, in a bitter state he gave Daxia to the local shrine, to dedicate him in the ways of the priests. To those not seeing the truth, this was a grand gesture from the warrior to the village; giving to the community his own cherished blessing. For this Daxia's father was granted even further accolades. To the son's confusion and ruin. For years the angelic Zhong learned the ways of the spirits; traditions, theology, rituals, exorcisms, asceticism. He knew he was special for some reason, but never truly understood why. He did know that things were not always as they seemed. After a few years, his father had died, and left his estate to a son he sired of another wife. This left Zhong wondering so many things. So many questions. So many suppressed feelings. He never let them show, for the longest time. All was quaint in the mountains of the north, until there came one Kuili Yah, a demonized bastard from the caves. He slew a whole town in cold blood in a single night, conquering every blade which met him there. News of his bloodshed spread across the mountains swiftly, along with his insane ultimatum: All honorable warriors must meet him in the village of the slain and swear fealty to him or commit harakiri. As the honor of the warriors of the mountains demanded; all came to the town to meet the bastard. They faced him with all their furor; one by one, as their honor commanded. One by one he slew them. Then, by some fell magics, he raised the dead warriors to life, infused with the oni spirits which his spirit had long been consumed by, and slew all the warriors of the mountains. All warriors but one. Daxiong the felon fled with his life, and came upon the monastery at the top of the mountain, to call aid of the priests at the monastery. Many blades he brought from the base of the mountain. "Hurry! We must train! The bastard is coming!" When the priests had heard his full tale, they decided that this was their fate, to stand against the forces of hell with the swords of heaven, to save the rest of the mountain towns, or perish. Many were against this, because Daxiong was a known criminal who deserved to die by his own blade, but kept their judgment of him for a time. Over the course of several months, the monastery trained in the ways of the sword of dishonor. Zhong admired Daxiong, for he was a man without pretense, and did what only had to be done. Zhong trained with all the might he was given. The monastery spread out into the forests, searching to strike the bastards' brigade by surprise, to whittle down their forces- a little here, a little there. The priests were successful, pestering and diverting the slaughterers from several towns and chasing their own backs. They slew, they exorcized, they did what need be done. They finally brought down the bastard's forces to a manageable size, when they decided they were able to kill the oni himself. The plan was to bait him in a one on one duel, and banish the spirits which gave him such strength. They met fatefully under twilight moon. The scene was set, the challenge was issued. Daxiong called out against the demon bastard for a one on one show of mettle, which Kuili Ya gladly accepted. When the time was right, the chief priests completed the ritual, binding the spirits inside of Kuili Ya, and lending victory to Daxiong against him. The demon was slain... but the undead warriors still stood. They were left unhindered. They turned to Daxiong, to commit reprisal. In that moment, the chief priests decided that this was the moment to unleash their judgment upon the felon. They withdrew, leaving their teacher to the straggling dead, to his undoing. On this day, Zhong Daxia learned that honor was a lie. The tides of blood washed over the mountains, and the seasons changed. So did Zhong Daxia. He kept his blade, his spirit, and distrust keen, and left the monastery to travel Hiroguo. He had had enough of the hypocrisy of the self righteous. What he left he soon found everywhere in the real world. Honor codes of the powerful elite, drunkards lost inside their own pomp, composed in their facades of solemn graces. Zhong Daxia now seeks for something he has not yet found; true justice, true righteousness, true honor.
