Female Elf Alchemist (preservationist) 18

As the swarm envelopes her, Vug makes an attack of opportunity with her lit torch.

1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 2 - 4 = 91d3 ⇒ 3

Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

Female Human (Alryan) Inquisitor of Calistria 1 Rogue 1

Tom I don't mind if you DMPC Chisora to speed up Combat. It seems that Combat always likes to start when I'm asleep or at work (stoopid Timezones) and with her high Initiative she's likely to go early a lot. You can always do her first attack and then I can chime in with her followups. :)

Chisora evades the Eyeball Spider with ease and swings her Hanbo in towards the eye, thinking to blind the creature.

Attack Eyeball Spider with Hanbo: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Male Half-Orc Barbarian 2 (2462 XP, 2 hero points)

Ugh. When I said that insects love me, I didn't mean for the GM to take me at my word. If I had known that was going to happen, I would have steered clear of all the rest of the party. Sorry about that, Vug.

Fort save (for halving the acid sting) = 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

Fort save (to be able to act) = 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

I take it that the "M" indicates the eyeball spider. Could I move as follows: L-10, M-9, N-9, O-10? Will the shape of the wall allow me to do that? Because then I could flank the spider with Chisora without provoking an AoO (assuming that the spider has no more than a five-foot reach.) I guess I'll be provoking an AoO from the swarm, anyway, but ah well.

If I CAN'T move along the wall that way, and if my diagonal movement doesn't provoke an AoO, then I'll just end up at N-10. That would still allow Chisora to take a five-foot step to N-12 to flank with me, if she chooses. Anyway, here's my attack on the spider.

Attack = 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
(Note: If I do get a flanking bonus, add another 2 to my attack roll above.)
Damage = 1d12 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Male Half-Orc Bard 11

Bubba jumps onto the sarcophagus (K13) and whips at the eyeball creature (if it will reach).

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 (+1 from guidance and +1 from high ground)
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Vug spits beetles out of her mouth as she races backwards and tosses her last bomb at the swarm, taking aim at the portion furthest from her allies.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 91d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

jeez Louise...

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Urg hugs the wall as he circles the monster, looking for an opening but finding none. Chisora scores a solid hit but only grazes the monster. Bubba jumps the sarcophagus and whips at it but has a hard time not hitting Chisora.

Vug backs off and tosses a bomb which again goes wide off its mark, but the blast is still enough to kill enough beetles to rob the swarm of its cohesion. It dissolves into individual beetles trailing off and dribbling yellow acid.

Valgrim and Feres are up, then the eyeball monster. Updated map.

Feres shouts, "SARENRAE!" and advances (to square N-12), swiping at the strange eyeball creature with his scimitar.

Valgrim will charge to O-12 and swing at the monster with his waraxe:

Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Vlagrim's axe bites deep into the fleshy eyeball, splashing you all with black ichor. Still it fights on viciously, unleashing a whirlwind of fury, slashing in all directions. Feres is hit for 5 points of damage and Valgrim for 4.

Your turn.

Male Dwarf Ranger 16/Barbarian 2/Fighter 2/Champion 2 HP: 334/334; AC:34/15/30; F +31 (+33); R +22; W +16 (+18); Init: +11 (+17); Percep: +27 (+29); Hero Points: 5/5; Mythic Power: 7/7; Rage: 14/14

Valgrim bites his lip in pain and grunts. He swings even harder with his waraxe at the aberration.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Male Half-Orc Barbarian 2 (2462 XP, 2 hero points)

This time, I'll assume that I DO get the flanking bonus.

Attack = 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Damage = 1d12 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Under your combined assault the monster is chopped to pieces.

167 xp for everyone.

On closer inspection the shaft where the beetles came from proves to be pitted and scarred and easily climbable should you have the inclination to do so.

Once the strange creature's body is disposed of, Feres calls on the blessings of Sarenrae and channels the healing energies of his deity to wash over himself and his allies.

Channel Energy (Healing): 1d6 ⇒ 6

Feres looks at his companions. "Down the hole?" he asks, "or rest for a bit?"

Female Human (Alryan) Inquisitor of Calistria 1 Rogue 1

Chisora glances down towards the hole then back at Friar Feres. "We can rest fro a minute, but I think we should press on and explore as much as we can before we're forced to rest due to expended resources."

"Thank you Friar, for the healing." Valgrim marvels at how his wounds magically close as the wave of energy sweeps over him. "More climbing, huh? That's just great!"

Female Elf Alchemist (preservationist) 18

"Whew...so much f-for those beetles and that...thing. I'm almost out of chemicals, but let's keep going. I still have one special potion that will let me outrun the rest of you, anyway! And that goes double f-for you, Valgrim!"

Vug grins cheekily.

"Don't needs to run and ye needs to be workin' on your aim, elf! I've seen blind dwarves with better accuracy!"

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

After some friendly banter you decide to try to climb down. The shaft is deep, some 60 feet, but it is relatively easy to climb (DC 5, and you may take 10).

Descending, you find yourselves in a small room (20 feet square). Dozens of bas-relief figures similar to the one on the sarcophagus lid in the room above stare disapprovingly from the walls here. Many sport crossed arms and stern expressions. A few of the statues’ heads are missing, and some have huge chunks torn out of them. Others have a weird melted
appearance, as if they’d been sprayed by something terrible. A large glyph that looks like a stylized arrow points down a short corridor to the north that leads to a four-way intersection.

Valgrim:

Spoiler:
The stonework on this level (including the statues) is significantly inferior to that of the level below the other elevator.

The corridor is the only visible exit. It is 10 feet wide, and there is an intersection after 10 feet. Some 50 feet ahead it seems like the corridor ends with a set of stairs going down.

Female Elf Alchemist (preservationist) 18

Vug will wait for Valgrim to share any observations before dashing off down the corridor. :-)

Male Dwarf Ranger 16/Barbarian 2/Fighter 2/Champion 2 HP: 334/334; AC:34/15/30; F +31 (+33); R +22; W +16 (+18); Init: +11 (+17); Percep: +27 (+29); Hero Points: 5/5; Mythic Power: 7/7; Rage: 14/14

"Me guess is they didn't pay the day laborers too much work",says Valgrim, looking around at the stonework. "Inferior work compared to the other level."

Valgrim walks down to the first intersection and listens at both sides.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

"Well, I'd say by their expressions that they were certainly dissatisfied," Feres comments, pointing to the figures' dour expressions.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Valgrim hears skittering sounds to the right and occasional bumps to the left.

Female Human (Alryan) Inquisitor of Calistria 1 Rogue 1

Chisora stops with the others at the intersection. "Which way now?" she asks.

Male Dwarf Ranger 16/Barbarian 2/Fighter 2/Champion 2 HP: 334/334; AC:34/15/30; F +31 (+33); R +22; W +16 (+18); Init: +11 (+17); Percep: +27 (+29); Hero Points: 5/5; Mythic Power: 7/7; Rage: 14/14

"Skittering to the right, bumps to the left. Let's go left first."

Female Human (Alryan) Inquisitor of Calistria 1 Rogue 1

Chisora shrugs. "As good as any, especially if there's more enemies no matter which way we go."
She raises her Hanbo above her head and waits for the others to move off before once more bringing up the rear.

Female Elf Alchemist (preservationist) 18

"If there are any more beetles, I'm all out of bombs. But we could light some more torches; that might help."

Male Half-Orc Bard 11

"Yes, let's go left. Enough of skittering things for now." Bubba will take the second rank.

Male Dwarf Ranger 16/Barbarian 2/Fighter 2/Champion 2 HP: 334/334; AC:34/15/30; F +31 (+33); R +22; W +16 (+18); Init: +11 (+17); Percep: +27 (+29); Hero Points: 5/5; Mythic Power: 7/7; Rage: 14/14

Waraxe in hand, Valgrim heads down the left corridor with Urg to his left.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

As you turn left at the intersection, your fears are confirmed as in the corner of your eye you look into the room opposite and, at the edge of your torchlight, see a thick layer of similar black beetles feeding on the familiar orange sludge.

Ignoring them as they seem to ignore you, you press on and enter the room to the left, which is fairly large, about 30 feet square. Eight man-sized stone slabs, about four feet off the ground, are arranged in two rows in this large room. A long-dead corpse, possibly a human, lays sprawled out upon one of these slabs, his red leather armor the only hint of color in the otherwise drab room. The north and south walls taper in somewhat, and the short west wall abuts a small stone stage. The red clay statue of a powerfully built warrior wielding a cylinder-headed greatclub stands tall upon the stage, its eyes surveying the room.

But before you can explore further two things force themselves to your attention. One is a feeling of drowsyness that affects you all except Vug Vang, (Will 15 to resist being fatigued) and the other is the grotesquely oversized beetle (looking like a 6 feet long version of the lesser beetles) that stumbles drunkenly toward you.

Roll for initiative. Map coming soon.

So we all know...

A fatigued character can neither run nor charge and takes a –2 penalty to Strength and Dexterity. Doing anything that would normally cause fatigue causes the fatigued character to become exhausted. After 8 hours of complete rest, fatigued characters are no longer fatigued.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Crude map here

The beetle goes on 8, so Valgrim, Urg and Bubba can all act. If Vug Vang and Chisora beat 8 they can act too.

Attack Drowsy Beetle with Hanbo: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
WTF... 5, 4 and 6. I hate freakin' dice rollers. :(

Male Half-Orc Barbarian 2 (2462 XP, 2 hero points)

Okay, Do those 12 gray squares represent the stone slabs? Or something else to indicate that we can't enter those squares? If so, this battle will be crowded. In that case, I will want to go around the beetle, gambling that it is truly flat-footed... that is, that it doesn't have the Combat Reflexes feat, or anything like that which would allow it to make AoOs. So I will travel around the beetle, 30 feet, to L-10. Then I'll wait for another PC to enter J-10 before I attack, so I can get a flanking bonus. I will account for both flanking bonus and fatigue penalty when I roll, and remember that the beetle will lose its Dex bonus to its AC.

Attack = 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Damage = 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Sorry, I forgot to mention it. The grey squares indicate the slabs, and while you could jump over them, it will take an Acrobatics check. You can run around and between, but that would mean that the grey squares count as difficult terrain.

Male Dwarf Ranger 16/Barbarian 2/Fighter 2/Champion 2 HP: 334/334; AC:34/15/30; F +31 (+33); R +22; W +16 (+18); Init: +11 (+17); Percep: +27 (+29); Hero Points: 5/5; Mythic Power: 7/7; Rage: 14/14

Thanks for the maps, BTW. Very useful to me.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Valgrim's axe and Vug's javelin bite into the beetle with a sickening crunch, causing it to go belly up, granting you another 100 xp each and leaving you free to explore the room, which has no visible exits.

Male Dwarf Ranger 16/Barbarian 2/Fighter 2/Champion 2 HP: 334/334; AC:34/15/30; F +31 (+33); R +22; W +16 (+18); Init: +11 (+17); Percep: +27 (+29); Hero Points: 5/5; Mythic Power: 7/7; Rage: 14/14

Valgrim examines the corpse with the red leather armor and statue.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19...+2 for statue if made of stone

Female Human (Alryan) Inquisitor of Calistria 1 Rogue 1

Chisora also goes over to examine the corpse, paying close attention to the Red Leather Armour.

Perception Check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The statue is made of terracotta and Valgrim notices some dark stains on the club. As for the corpse it is wearing a masterwork leather armor emblazoned with the initials MM, and a silver ring worth 75 gp.

Knowledge (local) 20:

Spoiler:
This is the emblem of a notorious crime league called the Minions of Midas.

Male Dwarf Ranger 16/Barbarian 2/Fighter 2/Champion 2 HP: 334/334; AC:34/15/30; F +31 (+33); R +22; W +16 (+18); Init: +11 (+17); Percep: +27 (+29); Hero Points: 5/5; Mythic Power: 7/7; Rage: 14/14

Three things:

1. Do the dark stains on the club look like blood?

2. Valgrim walks around the room using stonecunning to detect any secret doors. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

3. Are we still fatigued?

Male Half-Orc Bard 11

Bubba searches the rest of the room, detecting magic as he goes.

Perception (taking 20): 20 + 2 = 22
If not : 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Bardic Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Valgrim: Yes, no and yes.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The entire room radiates magic, but Bubba can't tell what kind. There is a separate but equally strong aura on the statue, but Bubba can't identify that either. The leather armor is not magical, and Bubba finds nothing else of interest about the room, nor can Valgrim.

Female Elf Alchemist (preservationist) 18

Vug Vang says in an exaggerated whisper: "Does anyone else get the f-f-feeling that we shouldn't make that statue angry?"
