Description and Background
With his gray skin, protruding tusks, and bestial expression, Urg looks more orc than human... and indeed, Urg is truly, biologically, three quarters orc. At first treated as an equal by the Legbreaker orc tribe, Urg gained respect for his strength and skill with an axe.

However, in time, Urg grew less and less comfortable with his tribe's methods. He especially became dissatisfied with the orcs' justifications for killing innocent children and abducting females. That his own human grandmother was one such might have bothered him on some level. The idea that "they'll kill us if we don't kill them first" was wearing thinner all the time.

The final straw was his witnessing a duel to the death between two members of his own tribe, in which both contestants lost. Ordinarily, the winner would get the loser's females. In this case, those females began to fight each other, and the males who came to break up the fight instead wound up joining the riot - whether fighting over the females or just blindly following mob rule Urg wasn't sure. Urg simply took advantage of the confusion to slip away, and never returned to the tribe.

Urg took to wandering for about a year. During this time, he happened to meet a passing traveler who commented that humans could learn to trust, or even like, anyone. It took time, work, and patience, but it was possible. Urg was intrigued.

After some wandering, Urg reached the mining town of Wolfstone. He noticed that at his arrival, children would run away - some of the younger ones screaming for their parents - and other people would suddenly avert their eyes, hurry into their houses, and shut and lock their doors. Urg had always known that acceptance would not come easily. But would it come at all?

Urg eventually found employment at Zalamandra's Emporium, which is a pleasure house that combines the services of a freak show, gambling den and brothel. Many of the employees and clients made Urg feel quite normal. There he met another half-orc employee, Bubluka. It was also where he met the cleric, Friar Feres.

Urg had deliberately avoided the clerics of Wolfstone for some time. His experience with clerics among orc tribes involved those of Gorum and Rovagug. Urg saw those clerics as killers with a lightshow. "Who needs clerics? What's wrong with a good, old-fashioned greataxe?"

So the first time Urg met Feres at the Emporium, and Feres introduced himself with a smile and a handshake, Urg did a bad job concealing his own disgust. The smile sickened Urg, who was sure that Feres would start preaching and proselytizing any moment.

Later that day, Urg was called to break up a riot in the gambling den. Unfortunately, Urg could subdue only so many people, and was too late to save a man from being stabbed and mortally wounded. Then Feres came running in, healed the man, and saved his life. Urg's world turned over that day. Since then, Urg has had the greatest of respect for Friar Feres.

Personality

Despite his Good alignment, Urg is a savage through and through. His manners are those of a boor. His judgement often seems poor. For example, he would sometimes charge into a battle when good sense would suggest exercising the better part of valor. So some might fail to realize that the reason for his recklessness is to protect the innocent, or to stop dangerous or evil people.
