Death-Lok |

Moving the game along, Bub follows Alie's tactics and D-doors out of the Broodfiend's reach.
Round 2: Broodfiend
Acting on its orders to kill the sorceress, the Broodfiend easily flies over to area where appeared and attacks her once with its Kyuss-tentacle! Despite her magical protections, the tentacle rips into her fiery flesh, draining the last of her intelligence, causing a guttural scream, and Alie collapses dead in mid-air, still held up by the flight of her form!

3 DC 30 Fort saves or be Dazed for 1 round.
C'mon people, let's be smart - this fight is tough and we already lost one player.

Bublaka |

Too late now, but Bublaka's plan was to ready an action to counterspell the fiend's greater dispel magic since they were hitting us with that so hard last time.

Bublaka |

Bublaka retrieves one of the scrolls he had purchased earlier at Friar's suggestion. Having prepared himself previously for the intricacies of the unfamiliar spell, he tries to cast it for real.
Use Magic Device to emulate Wisdom 19 (DC 34): 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (9) + 25 = 34 Whew!
Use Magic Device to cast Mass Heal from scroll (DC 40): 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (18) + 25 = 43
A burst of positive energy erupts from upper left quadrant of Exousia's square as the bard casts Mass Heal to harm the undead. If this can also heal Valgrim and Exousia, great, but if I have to choose between heal and harm, this is intended to harm. We have a much more proficient healer available. The spell was scribed at 20th level, so that should be 200 points of positive energy damage to any undead within 30' of the intersection that fail a DC 14 Will save, I believe.

Death-Lok |

Maralee Fort saves vs. Daze:
1d20 + 26 ⇒ (11) + 26 = 37
1d20 + 26 ⇒ (12) + 26 = 38
1d20 + 26 ⇒ (12) + 26 = 38
No Daze.
Actually the Scroll DC is 23 - 10+SL (9)+19 Wis (+4)= 23.
Bub, from where you are on the map, you cannot target anyone within 75', the range of the spell. However, I will assume that it was your intention to cast the scroll the following round so you would have D-doored away within 75' of the undead.
Maralee: 432 damage and blind: Will save: 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (16) + 31 = 47 - 532 damage
KK#1: 126 damage - Will save: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (15) + 17 = 32 - 226 damage
KK#2: 189 damage - destroyed
KK#3: 126 damage - Will save: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (16) + 17 = 33 - 226 damage
KK#4: 126 damage - Will save: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (20) + 17 = 37 - 226 damage
KK#5: 126 damage - Will save: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (4) + 17 = 21 - destroyed
KK#6: 126 damage - Will save: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (2) + 17 = 19 - destroyed
KK#7: 189 damage and blind - destroyed
KK#8: 189 damage and blind - destroyed
After the bard's casting, 5 Kyuss Knights explode, 3 are severely wounded, as is Maralee. Friar and Exousia are up!

Bublaka |

I must have misunderstood the scale of the map. The range on the spell is 75' and that would reach Exousia based on what I thought I was working with. Thanks for working out the details for me.

Friar Ferez |

Following Bublaka's tactics, Friar gets closer to the undead and channels energy to harm them!
10d6 + 21 ⇒ (2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 1, 4) + 21 = 49...Will save DC 27 to resist for half, undead do not add turning resistance.
Exousia casts Heal on herself (150 damage cured) and flies within 30' of the Broodfiend, egging him to attack her.

Death-Lok |

Maralee Will save: 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (6) + 31 = 37 - total damage 556
The Kyuss Knights each have 235 hps so even with a successful save against the channel, they are still destroyed.
Friar's wave of positive energy engulfs the area and the undead knights explode upon contact.
Round 3: Broodfiend
Having just killed Alie, the winged fiend flies at Exousia and attacks her with its Kyuss-tentacle. The angel screams, as the tentacle burrows itself with tremendous force into her neck, draining her remaining Intelligence and killing the Planetar! It then discards her corpse, as Exousia plummets to the ground below. It follows that up with a quickened dispel magic on the bard, dispellig his Airwalk and down he goes!
Attack:1d20 + 36 ⇒ (20) + 36 = 56...threat
Confirmation: 1d20 + 36 ⇒ (17) + 36 = 53...confirmed
Damage: 6d6 + 68 ⇒ (2, 3, 3, 3, 5, 4) + 68 = 88
Intelligence drain: 2d8 ⇒ (7, 5) = 12...kills her!
Quickened Dispel Magic on Bub:
1d20 ⇒ 15...lose Greater Spell Immunity (CL 21)
1d20 ⇒ 14...lose Heroes’ Feast (CL 21)
1d20 ⇒ 20...lose Communal Airwalk
1d20 ⇒ 1...no
1d20 ⇒ 17...lose Spell resistance
Now, without Airwalk, is Bub plummeting down 600'? If so, that draws an attack of opportunity from the fiend:
AoO: 1d20 + 36 ⇒ (17) + 36 = 53
Damage: 3d6 + 34 ⇒ (4, 3, 3) + 34 = 44
Intelligence drain: 1d8 ⇒ 3
Now the rules say you fall 576' in Round 1, so Bub still has a chance to save himself from taking the falling damage.
Maralee Round 3:
The blind Knight leader full-attacks the dwarf with her +5 unholy executioner's mace, which bypasses the dwarf's DR and her eye bites:
AC 51 vs. undead I believe
1d20 + 52 ⇒ (6) + 52 = 58...hit
1d100 ⇒ 71
1d100 ⇒ 29
Damage: 4d6 + 53 ⇒ (6, 2, 2, 1) + 53 = 64
1d20 + 52 ⇒ (10) + 52 = 62...hit
1d100 ⇒ 85
1d100 ⇒ 98
Damage: 4d6 + 53 ⇒ (2, 5, 6, 3) + 53 = 69
1d20 + 47 ⇒ (14) + 47 = 61...hit
1d100 ⇒ 96
1d100 ⇒ 100
Damage: 4d6 + 53 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 4) + 53 = 71

1d100 ⇒ 41
1d100 ⇒ 42
1d20 + 37 ⇒ (12) + 37 = 49...miss
Bite: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (8) + 29 = 37...miss
Bite: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (12) + 29 = 41...miss
Valgrim suffers 204 damage - he was at full hps.
Party is up - all 3 of you!
The Broodfiends are vicious - just never got to use them at full potential on account of Valgrim's Daze attacks.

Friar Ferez |

Friar screams in frustration as he sees Exousia die! He looks in rage at Maralee: "This is all your fault!"
Standard action is to unleash a Mythic Searing Light on Maralee!
RTA: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (8) + 26 = 34
Damage: 10d8 ⇒ (7, 1, 1, 4, 4, 4, 6, 3, 5, 2) = 37
Quickened Searing Light:
RTA: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (18) + 26 = 44
Damage: 10d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 4, 4, 3, 3, 2, 1, 5) = 28
Friar then moves 20'west.
Total damage: 65
Mythic: 5/7

Valgrim Twin-Axe |

Valgrim opens his eyes when he feels Maralee's skeletal parts explode over him. He sees Alie down and Exousia missing. "Screw this bastard!"
Valgrim will rage as a free action, spend a mythic point and swift charge the Fiend - AC 49 with mobility and attack with Dazing Assault.
Swift charge: 1d20 + 38 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 38 + 2 = 50...hit
Damage: 2d6 + 2d6 + 41 - 15 ⇒ (4, 5) + (1, 3) + 41 - 15 = 39

Damage: 4d6 + 2d6 + 82 - 15 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 5) + (1, 5) + 82 - 15 = 88
Total damage: 172
3 Fort saves vs. DC 30 or be Dazed
MP: 4/7

Death-Lok |

Fort saves:
1d20 + 22 ⇒ (9) + 22 = 31
1d20 + 22 ⇒ (1) + 22 = 23...Dazed!
While we wait for Bub's action, this happens....
Friar sees Valgrim's blow daze the fiend and thinks the tide of this difficult battle may be turning, only to see Alie's corpse, still under the fly effect, stir and rise, but not as a living person, but instead with the clear characteristics of a zombie! It flies into melee range with Friar, ready to punch her next round.

Bublaka |

As he falls, Bub pushes away the temptation to say he's done what he could and let himself die. He has something - someone - to live for. Even as he falls, he draws a wand and utters a phrase as he pictures the ledge where Maralee and her knights had waited.
Dimension Door has ample range to return Bublaka back to solid ground where they were waiting for us. He will appear at the far wall from the edge of the abyss (right past the edge of the map) with a wand of fireball in his hand.

Bublaka |

Bublaka glances at the wand in his hand, but has a different plan now that he's on solid ground. Moving toward the fiend, he sings three pure notes that take on a tangible form and fly toward the monster. Move within 75' of the fiend and cast Deafening Song Bolt (75' range, no save, no spell resistance, three missiles of sonic damage).
Ranged touch attack #1: 1d20 + 15 + 6 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 15 + 6 + 1 + 4 = 45 Let's see: BAB, Dex, Haste, Inspire
Damage: 3d10 ⇒ (3, 6, 10) = 19
Ranged touch attack #2: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (4) + 26 = 30
Damage: 3d10 ⇒ (7, 3, 10) = 20
Ranged touch attack #3: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (18) + 26 = 44
Damage: 3d10 ⇒ (4, 6, 9) = 19
I didn't go back to see all of my buffs, but I think that's all that would affect my attacks. Do the damage bonuses from inspire apply to weapon-like spells? That would add another 4 to the damage per successful attack.
I'm hoping Friar will heal Valgrim since it's a long shot I will hit those DCs a second time in one combat. Feel free to come take the scroll off my hands if you've used up yours.

Valgrim Twin-Axe |

Confirmation #3: 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (19) + 33 = 52...yes
Damage: 6d6 + 82 - 15 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 2, 4, 6) + 82 - 15 = 92
Total damage: 249
If that kills the creature with the previous 172 damage, Valgrim ends his rage.
4 DC 30 Fort saves or be Dazed
Rounds of rage used: 2

Death-Lok |

50% miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 85...Bublaka's song bolt hits and Valgrim finishes the Broodfiend by disemboweling it!
Zombie Alie has the same stats and hps of a normal zombie so one channel energy is sufficient to put her down for good or several wacks of a weapon.
With the battle over and one ally dead in front of you and another dead and beyond your sight on the pavement somewhere, what are your plans?

Friar Ferez |

Friar will hit Alie with his sunblade to take her down quick. Then, he will retrieve his Scroll of Resurrection and cast it on Alie's corpse. After a minute, Alie is restored to full hit points, vigor, and health, with no loss of prepared spells. She does have one permanent negative level until we can cast Restoration with a 1000 gp component on her. "Welcome back, Alie!"
Unfortunately, as an outsider, I cannot resurrect Exousia. Friar sheds a tear for the angel, but realizes their mission is not over yet and steels himself for what is to come. He will mourn for her later.

Bublaka |

Bublaka exhales deeply, looking around at the many pieces of their former foes. "That thing stripped much of my magic protections. If we meet another, should I be attempting to counter their dispels? I hate to remove my ability to aid you in your fight in doing so."
How many rounds did that fight last? I need to update my available rounds of bardic performance. I believe I kept accurate track of spells used and scratched off that scroll.
I have a wee bit of Intelligence drain and 44 hp down. How are we faring otherwise?
I'm late in realizing this, but the statue of Balakarde no longer provides benefits with the death of Dragotha, correct? I have some things to fix in my character sheet, I fear.

Friar Ferez |

Friar also casts a mythic empowered healing to cure 337 points of damage on Valgrim so he is back at full-health. MP: 4/7. You should be back to normal, Alie; otherwise, at 0 intelligence, you would still be dead. Bub, we still have the Wand of Restoration to cure the ability drain so one charge and you're back to normal - 19 charges left.

Death-Lok |

Fight lasted 4 rounds, Bub. You kept the initial bonuses from Balakarde. You lost the special bonuses against Dragotha such as immunity to fire, +10 on reflex saves, etc.
Alie, you are returned to normal intelligence.
Friar uses Wand of Restoration to restore Bub's intelligence. Friar also has a Wand of cure moderate wounds:
2d8 + 3 ⇒ (3, 1) + 3 = 7
2d8 + 3 ⇒ (6, 2) + 3 = 11
2d8 + 3 ⇒ (8, 8) + 3 = 19
2d8 + 3 ⇒ (5, 5) + 3 = 13
After 4 charges, Bub is back to full health (10 charges left).
Question: You guys do remember you have 5 wish spells, right? Two on scrolls and a ring of 3 wishes. I assume Alie has the 2 scrolls. Who is wearing the ring? If you're not going to use them in combat, you can use wishes to up your ability scores as inherent bonuses. Something to think about. We're almost done here so no use saving them for a rainy day. My 2 cents.
You find on Maralee's corpse btw:
+5 full plate
+5 unholy executioner's mace
ring of protection +5
Let me know when you're ready to move on...it seems like the roof of the tower is next.

Bublaka |

The ring would be an update for Bublaka if no one else wants it, but he's really not wanting to be close enough for it to matter... I presume that the restoration would also have handled his lingering Charisma damage that I had failed to get cleared up. I don't have the ring of wishes.

Valgrim Twin-Axe |

I can't carry the ring of wishes as I have enough rings on. I really think we should use a couple of wishes to boost either my Strength (I am only front line fighter left), Friar's wisdom, or Bubba's Cha. Alie's Int cannot benefit as she read a tome, which grants inherent bonuses. Or we can keep 5 wishes in reserve.

Friar Ferez |

Reminder so you can rebuff, if possible:
Friar lost Life Bubble, Death Ward, Magic Vestment (x2).
Bub lost Greater Spell Immunity, Heroes’ Feast, Communal Airwalk, and Spell resistance.
Alie lost Moment of Prescience, Heroes’ Feast, True Seeing, and Overland Flight.
Bub, can you use one of your Death Ward scrolls on me? I don't want to fight the god of undead without death ward.
I don't want an increase to wisdom - we don't have time to memorize spells and my DCs are easily passed at these levels. If I had +2 to choose, I would pick Con for extra hps.
I can't carry Ring of Wishes either - have FoM and Evasion already.

![]() |

Ive never had a DM that encouraged using Wishes before. I'm all for burning a couple of those right now. Raising wisdom and strength would probably be a good call.

Friar Ferez |

I think fairest way to decide who gets to use 2 wish scrolls for +2 to an ability score is rolling d20. Here is mine: 1d20 ⇒ 17.

Bublaka |

Bublaka defers to the cleric’s desire for stronger health. And he hands the holy man a scroll of Death Ward. ”Your casting will be less likely to fail, my friend.”

![]() |

Oh, sorry. I’m sitting this one out and will let the two of you have the wishes. Maybe all three of you, if we want to expend three wishes.

Friar Ferez |

Thank you, all! Friar uses two wishes from the ring to grant himself +2 inherent bonus to his Constitution. He also spends a Mythic point to recast spell resistance on Bub. MP:4/7. Will update hps and Fort save but other than that ready to proceed to the roof.

Everyone is at full hit points but no one has temporary hit points left and all ability drain has been cured. Party still has 2 scrolls of wish and 1 wish left in the ring. I will say that Alie has both scrolls on her and Bub has the ring of wishes in his possession, though it does not have to be necessarily worn currently.
The roof of the tower appears to be another 20 stories up (200 ft), so the party flies up as Bubba times their ascension with a D-door to reach the roof at the same time as the party. The sky above is turning an eerie green as the storm clouds being to coalesce, signaling something major is coming soon....when suddenly your vision is caught by the appearance on the other side of the roof of a group of outsiders, which include a large horned devil (Link), a tiefing monk (his twin appears to be missing) (Link), and a large efreeti wielding an appropriately-sized burning falchion sans the nightmare he was previously riding (Link), all led by a robed human male with the Hand of Vecna artifact on his left hand (Link), whom you know very well: Darl Quethos and his band...the same band who defeated you during your search for the Library of Last Resort and took the Titan's Belt from you! Darl speaks in his authoritarian voice, "We meet again, Valgrim, Bublaka, and Friar...the lady is new to me though her mastery of disintegrate magic is becoming quite legendary....so nice of you all to clear the way of those pesky guardians for us. Now be smart and run along...we will deal with Kyuss when he appears and his power will be mine for the glory of Vecna!" Darl and his band look prepared for battle, if it were necessary. They are currently on the other side of the roof, some 90' away from you.

Valgrim Twin-Axe |

Valgrim's fists clench when he sees Darl and his band...guess the revenge tour continues! "No, Darl, that is not happening! We are not going to allow you to steal the power of an evil god. It is time for you to leave or face our wrath!"

Friar Ferez |

We lost Exousia, they lost a tiefling and the nightmare. 4 vs. 4 - GM, Valgrim has true seeing and Alie has echolocation, any invisible threats that we cannot see?

![]() |

Can Alie have renewed her True Seeing spell? I'd have tried to do that on the way up to the roof. I'm not marking off the slot until I get a ruling.
Alie flies up with the others with her rod of maximize in her hand!

Bublaka |

Bublaka shakes his head very deliberately. "No, Darl, the power of Kyuss can be of benefit to none living. Join with us to defeat a god today and we can go our separate ways. The four of us have no choice but to stay - too many promises made, too many good people have died for us to do anything else. The only choice here is yours - aid us or stand aside and watch."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 43 ⇒ (14) + 43 = 57

Bublaka |

Bublaka watches the evil leader intently, tilting his head as though listening to a voice on the wind itself. Shaking his head again slightly, "I speak for myself. I believe my friends are of a similar mind, however."
He does hold his hand up to forestall hasty actions. Who he is signalling is left up to the viewer - maybe everyone?

![]() |

Alie doesn’t dare say anything. She didn’t know this crew, but they seemed to be listening at least.

Bublaka |

Bublaka takes a deep breath and closes his eyes. He mutters something under his breath, possibly a prayer, but he's not been the praying sort...
Opening his eyes, he shakes his head again, "None of us can afford to be weakened by fighting amongst ourselves and allowing this god to re-enter the world, regardless of our motivation for stopping it. Let us defeat Kyuss as a team and work out our differences afterward."
I won't bother rerolling the Diplomacy roll since a 50+ had no effect.

Death-Lok |

Darl shakes his head, "Kyuss' power is mine and mine alone...for the glory of Vecna! I will have the flesh flayed from her bones, Bublaka, for your insolence! And consider this the end of our working relationship...kill them all!"
Initiative in alphabetical order for each group:
