Wisely checking the doorway, you discover a hastily-rigged tripwire linked to twin flasks of acid set above and ready to douse anyone moving through.
The writing on the urns turns out to be gibberish, and moments later you realise why, as the illusion fades, revealing a crumpled body in oddly-antiquated priest robes.
Heal DC 15:
The body is old and stale. Judging by the age and other factors, you believe it was animated as a zombie for some time,
but there is a recent wound at the back of the skull that shows someone didn't want the zombie wandering around any more
Valex:
There's a design stitched on the body's belt that references a secret sign of the Palatine Eye, 'Lorekeeper'
As the illusion fades and reveals the body, Lenneth cautiously examines it once she's certain that it won't be getting up again. After a few moments, she straightens up and looks at the group.
"This body is old; whoever it was, they didn't die recently. But it looks like someone else put an end to their renewed wanderings," she explains, pointing out the wound at the back of the skull. "And whoever did ]that, did it recently."
She nods in the direction of the tripwire that had been laid. "I think who's down here has been trying to rig up pitfalls while we were dealing with those spheres. Surely they're not that far ahead!"

I agree. If this was a Palatine Eye compound or something then they may be more here to help us than just Melo's new companion. But we can't check anything safely while they are running around laying traps everywhere. I say we press on quickly before they can dig themselves in.

Echoes pads off through the doorway in an odd gait, snout dipping every few moments.
Unlike the natural caves you came through to get to the chamber of black spheres, the stonework of this corridor is dressed, square-cut and mortared.
With the scant light provided by your magic, you see the corridor leads forward and opens out in to a larger hallway.
Tapestries line the walls, and in regularly spaced alcoves there are wooden display racks. A long time ago these may have held great treasures and wondrous artwork, but now there are just splintered armor stands and shattered clay fragments.
INT or knowledge (history) DC 20:
These tapestries, though well-worn, seem to be of the same style as the ones you found under Sanctuary
At the end of the corridor there are two large wooden doors opposite each other facing east and west.
Valex:
You note that there is a subtle twist to one of the filagreed decorations around the door to the east, a Palatine Eye cache is in that room somewhere.
As they cautiously make their through the doors and down the long corridor, Lenneth's eyes drift over the tapestries that line the walls. After a moment, they spark with recognition.
"Hey! Do you see those tapestries? They look like the same style as the ones we found under Sanctuary*!" she whispers excitedly.

He runs his finger idly over the armor stands. It comes back black and dusty so he wipes it on his breeches and says;

The room must once have been an impressive sight. Plush carpet now threadbare with the ages gives way to reading chairs and tables. Some paintings on the wall, most now slashed or scorched. One entire wall is made of glass, scratches and gouges show some damage but it is as unvanquished. Any hints to what the humming is about? Is it a language? Is it casting?
"Okay no, that was the wrong answer," Lenneth responds flatly as she too begins casting. At this point she didn't care if they were speaking in a foreign language and didn't understand her or if they were strange alien creatures like Echoes or what. Alright, enough of this! Flynn dashes forward and reaches up to grab a fistful of robe on the nearest.... person. Pulling it down toward him he tries to get a look at the face beneath the cowl and shouts; Who the Hell are you?
Lilith understands the tones of the humming, it's necril, and about the only noise that these creatures can produce with what remains of their vocal chords. Definitely undead, but not casting a spell, it's more ritualised.
The droning is suddenly quieted as Lenneth completes her casting, though for all intents and purposes, the creatures continue pointing and do not move.
Valex notes that the entities did raise their arms in rough unison, but not in the precision mirror-like maner that might befit magic being used toduplicate appearance.
Flynn's mad rush forwards elicits no response, until he pulls the hood down, revealing a half-decayed skull with faintly glowing eyesockets. Its arms drop, narrowly missing the halfling, before it's fetid jaws close on his arm. Doing 4 damage.
The others also drop their limbs and lumber towards Flynn and Melo.

Lilith and Valex's appraising eyes glance over the party's opponents, they seem to be Skeletal Champions of some sort, but lacking the usual arms and armor of such. Perhaps they have class levels?
What few distinct words and noises you were able to make out were essentially 'desire' and 'bad blood'.
Flynn's blade bites at the undead facing him, though some of the force of the blow seems turned aside by both its robe and the bones of its body, he still feels something crunch, his second blow causes bone fragments to shatter across the ancient carpet and it looks unsteady on its feet.
The creature facing Melo and Echoes is brought low in a flurry of club and claws, bones scatter across the floor.
Lenneth's chains reach out and bring the creature facing Flynn down prone. Feldus' spell holds the other in place.

There is a flash of light, and an eruption of lightning appears on the top of the table in the centre of the room, flashing through the air past Feldus' nose and out the doorway.

Ok. Gm Fiendish, unless you have a problem I will trade out my Fog Cloud spell for another conjuration spell from the wizard list. Ideas include:
Mount, Communal- 6 mounts for an hour and 20 minutes…
Slipstream - 10 minutes a level of movement buff - but the visual is silly to me. Like Matters surfing.
Stone Call - large area effect damage but then creates large area of difficult terrain. Great spell agains pursuit.
Summon Monster II - I usually do not jump into summons until SM III
Summon Swarm - not great as the swarm, once summoned is not anyone's friend.
Web - We already have someone that can cast Web.
Web Shelter - only 4 hours. Might be good against a storm that surprises us. It would be good to get someday.
Whip of Spiders - too creepy for me I think. lol.
What do people think? My only restriction is that it must be conjuration.

When an you take Wings? Not til 5th, right? What about splash mastery?
Basically I am torn between taking another energy type because fire resistance really puts a dampener on my day. But, I do get a boost to damage because of the pyromaniac trait so my fire bombs do 3d6+3 but an alternative, like acid bomb, will only do 2d6+3. The other option is battlefield control with Tanglefoot bomb which is amazing and one I will definitely take at some point it's just when to do it :/
Stink bomb is also awesome (not against undead) but I have to take smoke bomb to get it which will effectively mean another one of us taking a fog cloud!
I don't think that having some degree of overlap with certain spells and abilities is a bad thing, especially crowd control stuff. Since during the course of a combat we usually end up spread out, having everyone with some sort of viable crowd control would be useful since one person might be able to hit an area that another wouldn't. That being said, witches don't get a huge amount of offensive spell/hex options so Lenneth's choices are always going to lean more towards utility, control, etc. out of necessity. She's got her Swamp's Grasp hex, Hold Person, and Web for keeping things in place or slowing them down.
Having an alternative to fire damage might be useful since fire seems to be the most commonly encountered form of energy resistance among things that aren't undead...

I do agree. I am a big fan of acid damage, as I have found out the hard way that fire damage can spread even more fire. Cold is useless against undead, so either electricity.
To crowd control we are playing in real life kingmaker. We encountered a swarm of crows and our witch and our sorcerer cast deep slumber on it, not willing to fight another swarm. Suddenly a lone raven was there. One detect evil by the paladin and one archery ranger later one less familiar.
So double CC means often the diffrence between failure and success.

All,
I fear I have done a bad job keeping up with the loot of late. I do not recall if it was even my job, but I have gone back to when we had to leave Sandpoint and "collected" what we have found since then. I am not 100% sure we took everything we found (goblin armor and weapons for example) but I have listed everything Where things are assigned I have listed that too, but may have missed somethings. Looks like we only handed out about half of those ioun stones. There is a lot to be divided up.
Also, iirc Lilith was given the eyes of the eagle to use. At the time I did not recall that she was already wearing that eye patch. (totally forgot about the eyepatch). So, if she is taking the eyes, someone else should take the eyepatch.
"The eyepatch is an oddity, it requires 24 hours to adjust to a wearer during which it is simply an eyepatch, however after that 24 hour attunement period the wearer can see through it if it wasn't there, and in addition can use a free action (as long as one hand is free) to reach up and touch the ruby and have it cast detect poison, detect undead or detect evil."
So, ret-conning a little, if you are ok with it GM Fiendish Lilith would have so checked the Drow for evil and poison by now. Heck, she would check everyone, even detecting undead on herself. :) You can PM me the results if you think it appropriate.

Oh, with all this talk of gear, don't forget encumbrance!
I suspect things like the poor-quality goblin armor etc will have been left behind, heavy and worth nothing in trade plus too shoddy to make anything else out of!
Random comment - am I the only one that didn't take what happened to Turrey to have been Shomari's doing? For some reason I always thought that it was that talking undead jerk and Shomari had been dragged off, but in retrospect I guess it makes more sense for Shomari to have been the murderer...for some reason...
If so, I feel kinda silly because then some of Lenneth's inner monologue doesn't make a whole lot of sense :P
That's just what Polo thinks. We don't really have evidence of it although I'm sure he was stabbed in the back if I recall correctly. But that could well have been the intelligent undead that bit Lillith.
Just a reminder about your cord: It's magic is powerful but simple, in that it can negate the weight of any one object, but just that object. If you wrap it around a large chest then it removes the weight of the chest but not the contents. So it's best server wrapping around whatever you are carrying that is the heaviest rather than trying to carry everything with it.
Alternatively we can sub it out with a muleback cord if that's easier to work with!

We are not doing too well claiming loot from above so I want to try to divvy it out. This is my initial recommendation only and does not have to be followed. I make this with the intent to strengthen the party more than to be fair. Let me know what you think. And some of is only to note who is carrying the item and may not connotate ownership. If you have something you do not need or play to use, give it to someone else. If you think you need something, ask for it.
First everyone gets Wolf skins Cold Weather clothing, 1 each. And we are carrying some material wealth in the form of 40 gp worth of Gold Teeth and an uncut diamond the size of an arrowhead. I ask that Lenneth keep up with these items. Maybe they will be good to barter.
Azmerai - cracked pale blue rhomboid Ioun Stone (+1 competence bonus on climb checks), ring of feather falling, old oilcloth style tent shelter - 20 lbs
Polo - Kaiya's yellow blanket, cracked deep red sphere Ioun Stone (+1 competence bonus on stealth checks), healer's kit +3 to heal checks- 6 uses , blackstalk mushrooms, pouch of black root, Tree Feather Token
Lenneth - cracked incandescent blue sphere Ioun Stone (+1 competence bonus on sense motive checks), two torches, an empty waterskin, kit - 4 candles, 50 feet of silk rope, 6 pitons, a potion and a masterwork dagger in a belt sheath - wealth from above.
Lilith - old ledger you found in the basement, cracked scarlet and blue sphere Ioun Stone (+1 competence bonus on spellcraft checks), cracked dusty rose prism Ioun Stone (+1 insight bonus on initiative checks - A controller wizard likes to go first. But this might go better with Valex who can sneak attack if first…?), a pair of delicate glasses (identified as eyes of the eagle)
Euron - cracked pink and green sphere Ioun Stone (+1 competence bonus on diplomacy checks) eyepatch with ruby )Detect Evil, Poision, Undead).
Valex - Ring of Maniacal Devices, Trickster cloak, gong and striker
Things discarded:
Small goblin club
small stiudded leather

Does the Ring of Maniacal Devices take 24 hours to activate? Because Polo has a +7 to disable device so could take the ring from Valex and try should he fail.

Roger that. I was thinking weapons, tools, armor, and even clothing and such, initially. I might fix a spoke from a wagon wheel, but not the whole wheel and certainly not the entire wagon. With both Mending and Prestidigitation I figure I can have the place looking much better in a couple days. :) Later Lilith can put her skills to work. With Breadth of Experience she has basic skills in blacksmithing, carpentry, armorer, stonemasonry, etc. And with Crafter's Fortune she can be at +7 for any of these skill rolls. Add to that her +10 knowledge Engineering and, if allowed, she should be handy to have around.
Lilith only has one piece of parchment left and will scribe her last scroll the first night in the keep. She will be on lookout for more parchment and might have to go into the paper making business soon. lol
^Lenneth can also load Mending for tomorrow if need be. Sadly, she doesn't know many spells that would be good for day-to-day tasks but if nothing else she can help brew potions, craft alchemical items (given the supplies) and help with healing and such.

Not being good with names IRL, this helps me a lot. Thanks Lenneth. :)

Dang it! My game play post from yesterday is missing. I was trying to figure out why GM Fiendish had not responded to anything Lilith had said and now I see why. Sigh. No time to recreate it today. Sorry.
I haven't, but it looks like he's been posting as recently as the last day or two on his main alias. Maybe he just doesn't have much to say or do at this point besides enjoy the dinner? :)

I am always there. Just there are moments where I feel there is nothing to say. The moment three have something working with the gm a fourth is taxing. So he is in the back listening.
With the run up to christmas, things have geared up at home with present wrapping and the 1001 things to do to get things ready! I'm also part of the skeleton crew still at work over the holiday season, and whilst normally it would be quiet and let me get a chance to catch up on things, today was hell!
Anyway long story short, I vowed to myself I'd post tonight but it's so late now I haven't checked it through properly so please forgive anything that doesn't make sense, just ask questions and I will clarify if needed!
Hey folks, there's something I've been curious about since I started doing the whole PBP thing but haven't been able to find any real discussion on or the etiquette involved and that's the topic of relationships/sex, both NPC/PC and PC/PC. Awhile back it occurred to me that I might want to decide on what my own personal comfort level is with this since people *do* occasionally play flirty characters or characters who are open to finding love and/or a good roll in the hay during the course of their adventures.
I've seen some discussion about handling NPC/PC relationships from a GM's perspective and I imagine those are probably easier to manage since all the GM really has to do is throw the option out there and let the PC(s) respond to it or not *or* put something in for PCs who have stated in-character or out that they're looking for that sort of thing.
The PC-PC thing is trickier, though. If any of you have taken that route with a character, have you just let it happen organically or was there a behind-the-scenes discussion to make sure that the other player would be cool with it and if so, what the in-character boundaries needed to be? I'm asking this across several of the games I'm in because if I ever make a character who would go that route or if one of my existing ones decides to try her luck with someone, I don't want to commit some sort of PBP faux pas or come across as creepy about it since there isn't the same level of familiarity with other posters that you have with a regular RL group :)
Polo is flattered, but I think Lenneth is a bit tall for him ;)
In all seriousness it's an aspect of games that I haven't come across yet as either GM or PC on pbp. I have played out some romance in the Jade Regent campaign at tabletop and as long as everyone was mature about it, it added a good depth to the game and another level of immersion.
I personally think it would work really well in pbp because the medium is more conducive to character crafting and development. I think I would be a fan of relationships because anything that adds to a characters motivation and player engagement is a good thing in my opinion.
