Lilith Sylvari |
Does Lilith see the creature that used Storm Step in the hall? Its relatively short range. Lilith would use her full move to follow the path of the bolt, or at least the direction it went.
Melo |
Melo looks around the room as the last of the undead are put to rest. "Anymore?!" He moves to where they first spotted the undead and searches putting Echos to hunt.
Percpetion: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Handle Animal: 1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 4 = 15
Lilith Sylvari |
I am assuming that based on what everyone saw it was obvious that something left the room in a bolt of energy. But just in case...
Calling from the hall Lilith says This way, quickly. Our foe flees.
Flynnvas Merryweather |
I'm getting pretty sick of this game of hide and seek... Flynn mutters as he charges off after Feldus, the rattusthrope's nose more reliable in this gloom than his own eyes.
GM Fiendish |
Whilst the end point of the lightning bolt was within Lilith's view, she did not actually see a creature appear. Then again, she knows from her own arcane studies that if a creature is invisible, then it stays that way until it directly damages another being or the spell runs its course.
Melo and Echoes hunt around, but cannot detect the hidden enemy.
Feldus however gets a strong scent of must and mould, and is fairly certain the creature is hiding besides the doorway, outside in the corridor.
The rest of the party pile out in to the corridor, currently oblivious to the nearby presence of the insidious foe...
Melo |
Playing it off as Melo wasn't really focused on anything else
Melo turns and pushes Echo to follow him.
HA: 1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 8 + 4 = 25
Then follows after the others. His anger boiling over as they just seem to be lead into trap after trap.
Percpetion/Scent: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
Feldus Roni |
Feldus knows his foe is nearby but does not call out its presence yet to the other. He instead idly twirls his rapier around whilst getting an exact fix on the caster's location...
Standard: Use Feint action. Bluff: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7. Feldus will strike at the target next round.
Lilith Sylvari |
Lilith readies to cast Glitterdust should she become aware of the invisible foe. She will cast defensively IF she thinks the foe is adjacent to her.
Lenneth Barlow |
"This is getting old in a hurry," Lenneth fumes as their invisible foe continues to elude them.
But if we can find them, then we've won. They wouldn't go to all this trouble hiding if they thought they could challenge us directly.
As she looks around though, another thought rears its ugly head.
Unless they're trying to wear us down, first...
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Feldus Roni |
Feldus finishes pinpointing the target and then strikes hard with his rapier...
Rapier: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10; Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
In the event Feldus succeeded on his Feint...Sneak Attack: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5
Arcane Strike: As a swift action, you can imbue your weapons with a fraction of your power. For 1 round, your weapons deal +2 damage and are treated as magic for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.
Flynnvas Merryweather |
This thing is still invisible, yes? I will then just ready a partial charge/attack for when it becomes visible
Lilith Sylvari |
And as soon as she can Lilith will glitterdust the thing, even if it means catching Echo. She would even catch herself if need be, but not anyone else.
Flynnvas Merryweather |
Longsword: 1d20 + 10 - 2 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 10 - 2 + 4 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 4 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 6 + 4 = 19
Not wanting to give this thing any more opportunity to escape, Flynn runs forward and plunges his blade into it.
Assumed it was undead. Otherwise -4 to hit and damage
Feldus Roni |
Feldus, not wishing to miss the action here, slides around the mage and stabs him with his blade.
Rapier: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 2 = 17; Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Sneak Attack: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10
Arcane Strike: As a swift action, you can imbue your weapons with a fraction of your power. For 1 round, your weapons deal +2 damage and are treated as magic for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.
Melo |
I was delayed, but happy to act now.
Melo grins looking at Echo its fur standing on end as the creature is finally revealed.
As both of them charge together at the now revealed robe figure.
Attack Club: 1d20 + 9 - 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 9 - 2 + 2 + 2 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 4 = 9
Bite: 1d20 + 10 - 2 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 10 - 2 + 2 + 2 = 15
Bite Damage: 1d8 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 7 + 4 = 13
Trip: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 10 + 2 = 16
Lenneth Barlow |
With their elusive foe now illuminated and possibly cornered, Lenneth aims to make sure that he, she, they, whatever, stays put. Calling upon her shadow magic, she attempts to pin the robed figure's very shadow to floor and anchor it in place.
______
Lenneth casts Shadow Trap; DC 14 Will save or be entangled!
GM Fiendish |
The group's swordplay has never been in more sync than now, Flynn's sword blade combines with Valex and Feldus' blows, running the enemy through. Melo's strike causes it to collapse to the floor in a heap, unmoving. A growing puddle of blood appears underneath.
Combat over, Lenneth you can save your spell!
Lilith Sylvari |
Still looking wearily at the thing Lilith states We have been tricked by this enemy before. I am not yet sure it is actually dispatched. She looks about nervously.
Perception: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (15) + 18 = 33
Flynnvas Merryweather |
"Step back a moment, and we will make sure it never will be...". When he has the room, he decapitates the glittering corpse.
Well that was.... definitive. Flynn says with approval.
Flynnvas Merryweather |
A weapon's cache? Flynn asks surprised. Finally some good news. Where would we find it?
Melo |
Melo happy with the kill places his club and shied away. stepping over to Echo's he runs his hand through the creature's mane.
"I hope that is the last of it, that cat and mouse game was pushing me to my limit.." Hearing talk of a Cache. "That creature could have been looking for it? If there is one we need to find it, anything that will help is a boon in our mission."
Valex |
"You recall the items we found in the cathedarl at Sandpoint, Lilith?" SOrry I have not had time to go back and read that...I don't remember what we found.... "It seems that the ORder of the Palatine Eye secured items here as well. Give me a moment while I try to follow the clues..."
Give me a bit to go back and read the hints in the beginning of this encounter. More shortly.
Feldus Roni |
Once satisfied he and his pack mates are truly alone, Feldus turns his attention to the now beheaded corpse.
I am sure you had many tales to tell...too bad you won't get the chance, but your possessions will hold clues.
Take 20 on Perception to search the corpse, total 31. Feldus does not have Detect Magic memorized but he does have Detect Poison :). He will also try determining whether he actually knew him.
Lenneth Barlow |
"Another cache? Good, then hopefully coming down here will have been worthwhile after all," Lenneth agrees. As Feldus begins searching the corpse, she works on detecting if there are any additional magical auras - on the corpse or elsewhere in the vicinity.
______
Casting Detect Magic and looking around!
Valex |
Fiendish, am I correct in remembering that the architecture indicated that the cache would be in the room with the three hooded undead dudes? If so, Valex will re-enter that room and look for further clues, taking 20 on a perception.
perception=30
GM Fiendish |
Lilith checks around, and is sure that to the best of her ability to tell, the party is alone inside the network of rooms.
Valex decapitates the body with ease, though gets a not insignificant amount of blood on his clothes during the act.
Feldus is unable to smell anything beyond all those entities he is already aware of.
Echoes tenses under Melo's hand initialy, then relaxes somewhat and emits a high-pitched keening that you can only liken to a cat's meow, just ten times as painful to hear. Fortunately it seems content to be stroked without further sounds forthcoming.
The body has on it:
necklace of fireballs with 2 * level 4 and 1 * level 6 beads remaining
A polymorphic pouch (contains a small diamond worth 250 gp, a sorcerer's kit and three rations)
A bloodletting kukri
Yes Valex that's correct
Valex re-enters the room and begins looking over the wall and furniture for clues. Finally coming to a section of otherwise inconspicuous wall, he realises the mortar has tiny whorls and circles in that indicate something is behind the wall. He is also sure that the wall is magically trapped somehow. It likely requires a password or similar to bypass safely, or else someone could just literally try to get through and see what happaned.
Lenneth Barlow |
"Yuck," Lenneth wrinkles her nose in disgust as she explains what the kukri does. "I'm not surprised to find an agent of the Way carrying something like this around. At least the pouch and the supplies inside it are useful. And the damned fireball beads, too," she grumbles, rubbing at her arm where a burn had been not too long ago.
Valex |
Valex will crouah by the wall and mutter all of the passwords and code phrases that he knows - which are not too many.
If that fails, he will cast detect magic and concentrate for three rounds to see what he can find out about the trap.
spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Feldus Roni |
Feldus sniffs the corpse, nodding in satisfaction it was not one he had met before.
There are many agents of the Way I never knew of...
"This one looked to wield sorcery. I know while sorcerers were not actively recruited by the Way, if their magical bloodlines ran to necromancy...then they would take a strong interest."
He looks over the magical items with interest, "Now why would he have needed this pouch? Was he capable of shifting his shape, or did he claim it as booty from another?" Looking over the curved blade he reaches for it, hefting it experimentally. "That kukri should be held by one who has lived with the stink of necromancy for a while. I can relinquish my own blade in return." Feldus can give up his +1 dagger for it. Also the kukri is a Martial weapon so Feldus is not currently proficient in it.
Once the loot has been distributed, the wererat turns his attention to the wall where Valezx is working. "If this wall is enchanted to ward off members of the Way then perhaps I should await your progress outside here."
Lilith Sylvari |
Lilith spends some time examining the corpse. wE have yet to even determine the race of your dead emery. Was he living or undead I wonder.
Likith would love the necklace but it makes better sense maybe to give it to one who cannot already cast spells. The pouch seems made for Melo.
GM Fiendish |
The wall flickers and a glowing glyph appears and disappears, however it does not otherwise respond to any of the phrases Valex uses.does not respond to.
The detect magic shows conjuration and abjuration auras on the wall.
Flynnvas Merryweather |
I don't understand any of this Valex. But if there's anything I can do to help just point me in the right direction. Flynn says, sheathing his sword and rolling up his sleeves ready for work
Melo |
Feldus maybe just take both for now, I don't think anyone else will take it? I think a range/caster should take the fireballs its always good to have more options. I'll happily take the bag, it does work for me. Let me been your pack mule.
Melo takes the pouch and looks over the druidic motif smiling slightly as he is reminded of his upbringing then hangs it from his belt.
He pushes Echos to follow and then goes to stand watching over Lilith. "So this is a member of the Whispering Way, will others like him attempt to stop us?" He says looking over Liliths shoulder.
Valex |
Valex smiles ruefully and says "I would guess that the password for this is well above my station. I can attempt to disarm it...or merely trigger it and see what happens. But it may be very well protected indeed. Thoughts?
Feldus Roni |
"If the trap is protected by a conjuration aura it may summon a guardian we may not be able to overcome." Feldus points out. "Perhaps it would be wiser to explore further, we may find more clues as to what the password is."
