Smart Guns) In 4th ed, the smart system has three components you need to collect those sweet sweet bonuses. 1 the smartgun system itself; you got this which is nice. 2 an image link on which to display the information; you have this on both your eyes which is good. But 3 you also need the smartlink itself (p333 of 20th anniversary core) which you appears to be lacking. Without this the other two aren't really doing much. I'd recommend finding the 500 nuyen it costs somewhere and either installing it in an eye or getting it in a pair of glasses or something!
Grenade Launchers) The grenade launcher uses the Heavy Weapon skill which you seem to be missing. Though, given the AoE nature of the grenades, it isn't really 100% needed to actually use the grenade launcher itself - but with only 2 dices* (critical) glitches are going to be painfully common. And *something something* GRENADE is a really bad weapon type to glitch on in my opinion! I'd recommend getting at least one point in heavy weapons for this.
*4 if you get the smartlink up and running as above.
Another point I'd recommend that you do is glance at the chunky rules for how grenade launchers are fired. Firstly an grenade launched grenade scatters 3d6 meters from your desired point-of-impact, reduced by your net hits x 2. That's a bit over 6m on average off-target if you do the changes I recommend above. Yeesh! Even worse; an grenade launched grenade explodes at start of the throwers next initiative pass. This means, in some cases, there will be enough time available to throw/kick the grenade back or simply dive out of the way.
Now, all hope is not lost, there is a nice piece of gear called an Airburst Link that both reduces scatter (though exact amount is in a faq somewhere, the book gives conflicting numbers) and makes the grenade explode right away! p322 in the 20th anniversary core book.
Recoil) This is mainly something burst fire and full auto weapons care about. But even on semi automatics it is worth getting at least one point; the second shooting action in each pass suffers 1 point of extra recoil. Something like personalized grip or electronic firing can easily be fitted on a pistol and takes care of this issue nicely!

== Description ==
Bronze is a large bodied ork, with well-defined muscles and athleticism, even before the 'ware. Now, he presents a physically imposing form, looming head and shoulders over even the tallest elves and humans, and looking eye-to-chin with most trolls. He carries himself with grace, moving too smoothly to be purely natural. He typically wears a battered synthleather jacket over plaid work shirt and dark grey or black cargo pants, with heavy soled boots tightly laced up to mid thigh. Unless expecting trouble, he doesn't typically carry more than a light pistol, tucked into a concealed holster at his right hip, and a simple knife tucked into his left boot. When it's time to go loud, though, he can pull out some serious firepower from the trunk of his nondescript Mercury, along with what appears to be Lone Star issued SWAT armor and helmet, with all insignia sliced off.
== Background ==
Born Charles "Chuck" Berger to ork parents James and Patricia Berger, Bronze grew up fast and hard on the outskirts of Redmond. His parents both worked two jobs, with James mopping floors and cleaning toilets for a local sanitation crew, while Patricia slung hash overnights and dished out noodles during the morning. They worked themselves to the bone so Chuck might have a better chance than they did, knowing full well that a 3rd generation ork faced an uphill battle in this world if he hoped to make an honest living.
Chuck worked just as hard, hustling for any odd job or task he could in the 'hood, and finally caught his big break. Just 4.5 years ago, he got accepted into the Lone Star Academy following a big "metahuman rights" publicity push. He was one of only 12 accepted, with only one other ork. Relying heavily on his natural strength and durability, he absorbed all the punishment and hatred slung his way and miraculously managed to graduate. Naturally, he got placed on the drek assignments, flagging traffic in Touristville, sitting on garbage trucks overturned, and the like. Not content to simply jam the poor ork up on the lousy jobs, one sergeant named Colton Mills decided he and his crew needed to clean up the force. A staunch Humanis Policlub follower, Mills managed to bring Patrolman Chuck into a "sting" assignment just over the line in Redmond. Not paranoid or suspocious enough yet, Chuck went along, in unifiorm as ordered, and walked directly into a nasty ambush.
Chuck took several slugs to the chest before he was dragged from his cruiser, beaten and almost lynched by his fellow officers. Only the timely intercession of a pair of Vory affiliated orks kept Chuck from losing his life, that day. The Vory thugs saw promise in the large, young, obviously tough ork, and patched him up before helping make sure the official report showed Chuck as dying in the line of duty. From that day on, he has harbored an intense, burning hatred of cops, especially Lone Star cops. Working his way up through the shadows for the past 3 odd years, he's traded away quite a bit of his metahumanity, all for the goal of getting his mitts on Colton Mills, now a Captain on the Lone Star force. One day, he'll get him, and on that day Captain Mills will learn what an angry cybered ork can really achieve.

Question: You say that the usual restrictions on skill purchasing are lifted. Obviously that means we can max more than one skill and/or have as many as we want at 5 or more, but does that include the restrictions on breaking up skill groups? Could we, for instance, buy Firearms as a group to rating 3, and then bump Longarms to 5 on its own, paying 38 BP total? Same question goes for Specializations.

Hello! I'd like to submit a character for your consideration. She's from an older campaign that fell through. I've already sent you a PM about the backstory as I know it conflicts with your house rules but I hope that can be worked out because I think it could be fun and interesting.

A science experiment conducted by Renraku to study the effects of DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) combined with DNI to The Matrix. Renraku conducted the experiment at an unmarked blacksite off the coast of the UCAS as it allowed for deniability and already contained the requirements for such a blackbook experiment. The abusive techniques employed by Renraku to induce DID into Yukimura Hikari have left a damaged young woman still learning to cope with her afflictions. Taken into the experimental program by Renraku at the age of 6 in 2058, Hikari had the unfortunate chance of being the daughter of the project leader, and as such was born a wageslave to be used however Renraku saw fit. After her mind was found to be psychologically susceptible to identity implantation techniques, she was entered into the program immediately. What followed was nearly twelve years of training in Matrix protocols, command line interfaces and program exploits taught by some of the best Deckers Renraku had at their disposal. Hikari's primary teacher was one of the deadliest Deckers employed by Renraku, a woman known on the Matrix as The Red Woman. Specializing in a brutal assassination style of counter-decking, The Red Woman has been the terror of Hikari's short life.
Shifting back and forth between her different personalities became more fluid as the research became more refined, and her father settled on three personalities as a relatively stable outcome for the project to achieve.
Hikari currently shares her headspace with two other personalities. Hikari has understandably become a shy, introverted and moderately unstable girl. More ready to jump onto the Matrix than deal with the real world. The first personality to emerge separate from her own was Taiyō and in every way Hikari is shy and introverted, Taiyō is outspoken and aggressive. Taiyō carries a chip on her shoulder and is easily enraged. The Renraku researches believe that Taiyō exists as a method for Hikari to lash out against her circumstances and serves the purpose of protecting her primary personality from harm. The second personality is Tsuki, a personality focused on curious exploration of wherever she is and oscillates between hyperactive and mischievous prankster. Researchers believe Tsuki emerged from Hikari’s repressed desire to be a normal child.
During the fourteenth year of experimentation, the most significant change in Hikari’s life happened when Desperado, an old friend of her father and at the time a security contractor for Renraku, convinced him that what he was doing to his daughter was wrong and more importantly he should do something about it. Three months after that, with severe debt to the Yakuza, Desperado and her father broke Hikari out of the nameless blacksite, with Desperado taking Hikari out into the streets of Seattle. Hikari found herself out in the real world for the first time with nothing but the clothes on her back and her Fairlight Caliban attached to her hip. Hikari found her feet slowly over the next few years and joined a group of Shadowrunners that included Derek Wilson. However, on one run gone bad due to Derek Wilson's BTL problem, Hikari lost her right arm in a mission gone FUBAR. While Wilson paid to have her arm replaced, Hikari had had enough and decided to leave the team until Wilson got his BTL problem in check or left the team himself. Though she struggles daily with her shifting personality and making it in the shadow filled streets of 2072, Hikari has spent the last few years enjoying life on the outside while working under the street name Alter.

Jon, The Evil DM |

Okay, I've got a lot of catching up to do. Here we go:
@Philo Pharynx: Mechanics on your character look good, as far as I'm concerned. I had to double check on the pieces added to your armor; there are mentions of them taking up armor 'slots' in some places but I can't find rules for such things in most armor just like I can't seem to find the rules on why some of those options have Ratings that don't seem to actually do anything. Point is, I don't see anything in need of changing.
@The Lion Cleric: I took a look at the character in Chummer the other day, looks good to me. I'd love to see a backstory for this character and why they left the group when you have the time, though. The only thing I noticed was the way you purchased Attributes for cyberlimbs; did you intend to purchase some with slots from the arms and some under the rules for customized limbs? Let me know if that's the case or if I misread it, but otherwise you seem good to go. As for the question about miniguns, I can't find a RAW answer anywhere... so I'm going to say it doesn't cost anything extra. I think that may have been the point considering the potential limitations to such a weapon in that it can't fire anything other than full bursts as a complex action.
@DBH: Nothing appears to be wrong with your character, but I'm just a little confused as to what you plan for your character to really specialize in. Most of your attributes are pretty average and I don't see a ton of stuff to capitalize on the high Logic; it seems like your character has decent repair skills and good Demolitions, but ultimately neither of those skills are going to come up on runs all that often. However, you've got a lot of grenades and such, so I feel like that was your intention as a potential specialization as an explosives expert. Grenade launchers use Heavy Weapons to fire as opposed to Demolitions, which is used to set high-grade explosives rather than hand-held or launched grenades. Also, it looks like your Essence is WAY too low; I'm calculating it at 3.7 at the moment. You don't need a cybereye purchased for each eye socket, and you can attach Flare Compensation and Low-Light vision to those without a problem or a loss of Essence. I might suggest shuffling some funds around to invest in a bit of 'ware for your attributes if you're planning on working explosives--Heavy Weapons uses Agility as opposed to Logic--and possibly redistributing some of the BP you spent on them as well. If you aren't a mage there's not a ton of point in conserving your Essence other than that having a ton of it gone makes it a bit harder to heal you, but it's amazingly easy to boost your First Aid skill so that shouldn't be a huge concern for you.
I'd recommend buying an Airburst Link for your grenade launcher to help make grenades more viable for you, and to purchase a Smartlink to actually get the bonus you would from such a system. Also, I don't know how many books you have access to in 4E; there are some fun new grenades and such in Arsenal and a lot of the books have nice new stuff to use. If you want the full collection just PM me.
As for having purchased a kit and shop, I forgot to mention this, and it applies to everyone so I'm gonna bold it:
YOU DON'T NEED TO BUY A KIT, SHOP, OR FACILITY FOR WEAPON MODIFICATIONS. Derek has installed one in your old hideout since you left, and you'll have access to it.
@PsionicHamster: Only thing that jumps out at me from the sheet is that you've got a skill that I cut; Leadership doesn't exist anymore and instead is replaced by Tactics as a knowledge skill or a simple attribute test depending on the situation. Other than that, the character looks solid and I like the backstory. However, I'd really love to know why your character split off from the group. Otherwise, nice job.
@MisterLurch: Thanks for explaining, I'm admittedly less familiar with Awakened characters--I've actually never played one myself--and so I delve into books like Street Magic less frequently. I'm going to say yes on the Group Initiation, but I'd like to know who they are and what they mean to your character. As for Ordeals, I'm going to go with no at character creation, since they seem like the kind of thing I'd want to make you do an actual side-quest or something for. The option will be available in the future, however.
@Kiradia: Sheet looks fine to me, and as we've discussed the changes to the Multiple Personality Disorder that's fine with me as well. I like the backstory and you've got a pretty good reason to leave the team, but now I'm curious as to why she comes back. She clearly doesn't like Derek and has good reason, is it just that the money is too good to pass up? I'd love to see an explanation for that. Also, how well does the group know her other personalities, do you think?

![]() |

@Jon, The Evil DM: Good questions :) Lets see...
For rejoining Derek for one last run, I don't think every personality of Alter actually hates Derek, Taiyō definitely does since I figure her personality was dominant or quickly became dominant when her arm was lost but Tsuki probably spent a lot of time having fun with drugs (but never BTLs, Alter is already messed up enough as it is) with Derek on occasion. Hikari is a kinder soul than the other two and probably wanted to see Derek get better and kick his habit. So... all of that mixing together makes her decide to come back.
As for the other possible characters, they'd definitely know something is off with Alter since she isn't always acting like the same person and doesn't always remember conversations she's had with other members of the team. If any of the team members are medical experts they probably would have figured it out by now. Any Street Samurai would have Taiyō's interests while Tsuki is more a party girl and would like charismatic characters. Hikari has a hard time making friends with anyone due to severe introversion and just not understanding social cues.
Hope that answers the questions.

Leadership comes with the influence group, IIRC, which is why that skill is in there.
Easy enough to delete if appropriate.
As to why he split off - pursuing a personal vendetta can grate on people, especially if Bronze is taking risks or placing jobs in danger to advance his own goals. He also would feel unhappy about dealing with a BTL addict as the team driver/rigger - that brings up quite a bit of friction indeed.

Philo Pharynx |

@Philo Pharynx: Mechanics on your character look good, as far as I'm concerned. I had to double check on the pieces added to your armor; there are mentions of them taking up armor 'slots' in some places but I can't find rules for such things in most armor just like I can't seem to find the rules on why some of those options have Ratings that don't seem to actually do anything. Point is, I don't see anything in need of changing.
No problem, Arsenal lists the maximum armor modifications.
Each piece of armor or clothing can only accept a total number of modification rating points equal to 6 or the highest number of its armor ratings (Ballistic or Impact) x 1.5 (round up), whichever is higher. Unrated armor modifications (for example, the gel pack modification) take up 1 point.
For the form-fitting armor, it adds an extra point of fire resistance and two for electric. For the Steampunk outfit, it's a component armor, so you can choose different parts to get a different armor rating.

@GM: Oh, yes! I've been meaning to start that, but I got a couple of days worth of travel, and today was quite busy. I'm starting to work on an IC snippet, and I'll plop in an appearance spoiler as well.
Regarding the limbs: What I gathered from the book, a cyberlimb by default is a 3-3-3 item. A customised one increases the baseline stats, and then the enhanced is put on, taking capacity away from it? Did I get that right? As for the Minigun, I think I'll pass, but thanks for answering!
I've put in a (tentative) change to the Negative Qualities: I've picked up Big Regret, and down-graded the SINner to a Standard one, with his real name.
I imagine the reason why he'd left the group was, well, there was no group left. By the time the big split was happening, he'd already gotten confirmation about his implantation induced neural decay, and he felt quite lost after the breakdown of the group. I can imagine his big regret being somewhat connected to either an injury

Regarding backstory, I've made the assumption that the game is set in the late 2060's - early 2070's, for continuity's sake.
The ork sighed as he sat down, picking up an ancient, beaten up computer. Lauching the laser keyboard, he reached to start tapping on the desk, as a sudden jolt in his right arm sent a ceramic mug flying away, shattering on the wall. Sighing once more, he turned back at the keyboard, and started tapping.
---------Early Life---------
Born in the early 21st century in Almaty, Kazakhstan, Ismail Ulyanovich Aslanov's family moved to Vladivostok in 2035, when the city was reopened. Joining the Red Army at the age of 17, the young ork showed an affinity for gunnery and heavy weapons, earning the rank of Sergeant for 'extraordinary bravery and heroism in the face of the Enemies of the State', and confirming a kill on then-number 7 on the Terrorist watch list, Vasilisa Nemaya.
He stopped, erased the text, stood up, nearly hitting the ceiling in the cramped room, and leaned down, picking up the pieces with a blank stare.
-----------------------------------------------
The cold darkness in Yakut. The unnatural, out-of-this world howling wind. The squad. The attack on the truck. How Nemtsov was mauled by the biggest polar bear Ismail had seen, with metahuman menace in its glare. How Baba Yaga was getting covered in hoarfrost in seconds. The jump, and how he heard his leg crunch. How the Inuit witch hid behind the bear, and how the bear charged. How he started shooting, shooting until the bear had fallen down bleeding, until it was dead, until it was mauled beyond recognition, and he still kept shooting. How he limped around the bear's carcass, to see the bloodied body hold a tuft of white fur, the horror on her face. How he kept shooting.
-----------------------------------------------
He poured himself a cup of tea, and reached into the drawer, drawing a pillbox. Swallowing one and washing it down with tea, he continued writing.
---------Move to UCAS---------
In 2057, two years before the moving of Yamatetsu (now Evo) to Vladivostok, the company had struck a contract with the government for a research and implementation program for cutting-edge augmentations. After the initial trials proved successful, small-scale fitting began in the Red Army, aimed at heavy-weapons expertise and mobile combat, ironically codenamed 'Bogatir'. Three years to compulsory retirement age for orks, Sergeant Ismail Aslanov volunteered for the augmentation program, and whether due to his callsign being the same, or his connection to an engineer in the program, he was given the cybersuite. However, later tests in the system, aimed at rapid-target re-evaluation, proved to cause intense neural decay in over 43% of the subjects, and it was discontinued, the subjects given an honourable discharge and a masterfully crafted NDA to sign.
Following the discharge, and with no visible signs of decay as of yet, unable to live off on a Russian pensioner's income, Ismail relocated to the UCAS, unsuccessfully attempting to find a job in security.
--------------------------------------------------------------
He sighed, and deleted the text. The front door of the apartment building rang open, and Ismail leapt up to greet the newcomer. A friendly face, attached to a young human smiled, as he moved over to open the door. "Hey, you!", she greeted. "You look blue. You working on your autobiography?", she chirped with a chuckle. "How many times have you re-started writing it today?"
Ismail shrugged, the alloy arms moving silently. "Six, maybe. Or seven. Keeping track is discouraging.", he replied flatly, his thick accent showing through.
"Hm. I think I've read somewhere,", she said, reaching into her bags and putting a beer on the security guard's desk, "That you can't really write a story unless you know how it ends. And I'd also like to point out, I don't like sad stories, and I promised to read yours.", she replied, pressing the elevator button twice, then wincing when it didn't respond. Turning around, she opened her mouth, as Ismail's commlink started beeping. "Huh. Guess you should take that! Could be family. I got 13 stories to go up, so wish me luck.", she said, and started running up the stairs.
Squeezing back into the room, Ismail crashed down on the chair, then pushed the speaker button of the commlink. A voice from the past spoke from within.
"Hey chummer; long time no see, eh?..."

== Description ==
Dan is a tall and solid guy. Thick brown hair brushed back, tanned skin with a few scars here and there.
Dressed in worn but clean working clothes most of the time. Giving him the look of a mechanic in a better quality garage or workshop.
He's quiet and doesn't talk much, letting others carry the conversation while he watches.
== Background ==
Dan was born in Seattle, never knowing his father, his mother worked two jobs to feed them, leaving Dan on his own most of the time. While Dan spent a lot of time on the streets fighting and stealing with the other street rats he never fell into the Gangs.
His habit of fixing things, especially the worn out appliances in their home made his mother happy, and made him some money as the neighbours began to bring him their own broken appliances to reapair.
When his mother died Dan was on his own and started using his talents for breaking and entering to survive. Graduating to Shadowrunning by the time he was eighteen.
He never liked or trusted Derek, anyone with an addiction is a liability to Dan.
Dan likes his runs quiet and efficent as opposed to loud and messy. A stealthy break in and out with no one the wiser is his preferred job.
Since the team folded he's been getting by making explosive door openers and other gear for Shadowrunners and other criminals.
== Concept ==
The Handyman.
Dan can fix or break many things. With breaking and entering his specialty.
== Notes ==
He can also do as the medic.

Hey all, I'm back. Time for some feedback:
@PsionicHamster: If you check the House Rule document, Leadership is dropped from the skill group and Intimidation is added in its place. Leadership will be replaced by either Charisma+Willpower (?) tests or something like Tactics as a knowledge skill depending on which is appropriate. It's no big deal, feel free to switch stuff around as you see fit to accommodate for that.
@Philo Pharynx: Okay, gotcha. I don't know that I've ever actually seen that rule so it's nice to have an actual rules reference on hand. Redone crunch looks fine to me.
@The Lion Cleric: I like the backstory, and the crunch looks good to me as well! I'm really digging the character interaction there in the backstory, I'd love to know more about the person your character is interacting with. As for the neural decay, what do you picture your character doing about it? Has he been trying to receive gene treatments or something to that effect? I know he has the Borrowed Time quality, but that doesn't mean he knows that; perhaps another reason he comes along for the run is the hope that he might get enough money to afford a treatment that could save his life? The change in qualities looks good, though; be sure to decide on his Big Regret at some point (not even necessarily before Recruitment ends if you want some more feedback on it).
@D-Kal: What I see seems fine, although I'd like some more than what you've got on backstory. I wanna know more about why he takes up this out-of-place kind of magical tradition, where he picked up Sioux, and most importantly why he left the team along with why he's coming back.
@DBH: Revised character looks good, I might still try and come up with a way to get your Heavy Weapons a little higher? Either spending a bit more on 'ware to increase your Agility and grab some things that increase certain skills, or put more points into it. Otherwise, I think the character looks good mechanically and you can sort out the last of the nuyen later if you're picked. However, his personality confuses me a little; he prefers jobs that are quiet but he's a demolitions expert? I'd like to know why that's the case--not that there's a problem with it, just seems a little unorthodox--and I'd also still like to know why he came back to the team.
Also, due to my slow response with feedback because of life getting in the way, I'm going to extend the due date for characters until SUNDAY, JANUARY 29, 11:59 PM (GMT-5:00). Once we get within a few days of characters being due I'll be sending out PMs to those who expressed interest but haven't yet put up a character, just to check. If you contacted me via PM or email, expect a reply shortly, just going through and posting in everything I need to.

![]() |

Hm. I'd considered about the treatments, but he's also an ork who's above 45, which would be roughly 65-70 in human years, before measuring in the bad habits. I'd also imagine that a gene therapy of that scale would be along the lines of hundreds of thousands of nuyen, if not millions. He might consider that after the job is successful (and very, very well paying), but realistically he'd be choosing between spending time with his once comrades or spending the money from a successful run for a bucket list vacation.
As for the character, I imagine that right now Ismail is working semi-legitimately as a doorman/security guy/janitor in a big apartment building, like the ones you see on TV, and he's mostly using his paycheck to cover the medical bills. I haven't given it much thought, actually, before I wrote her up, but I can certainly give it more attention. Right now I imagine her as someone having the odd conversation with the old guy at the door, and a generally nice metahuman being.

Heh. you're right. Lets say he likes a professional run then, rather than quiet one. He likes the only explosions to be the ones he's caused. He'd much rather be in and out without too much drama. But carries the heavy weapons for when the drek hits the fan.
Fiddled a couple of skills and got his heavy weapons up to 10.
Then took 2 lvls of Muscle toner to boost Agility to 7, Heavy weapons DP now 12.

One more vote for mdt and willingness to change. I think I'll scrounge another concept from my non-Euclidean bag of Shadowrun ideas, if it comes down to that!
He ran a game for us back in the day, so as Karma dictates, it's only fair he takes part in one as a player!
Aaand... just headed to re-read 'New Orleans by Night'...

Jon, The Evil DM |

@DBH: Looks good. Depending on the cash you have left buying some of the form-fitting body armor from Arsenal might be a good idea, as it's relatively cheap.
@PsionicHamster: Sounds good on the swapping around of skill points, just let me know what you change around when you do so. No need to repost the whole stat block or anything like that, just fill me in on the changes if/when you make them.
@mdt: Sorry to hear that, but life does get in the way and I understand needing to drop out. I'll definitely keep your name in mind for the future.
@BoggBear: I did get the character, just haven't had a chance to check over it. I'll be getting to it some time tonight.
@MisterLurch: You're looking for page 270 in the Core Rulebook, buying qualities requires Karma equal to double the BP cost.

So I've been thinking about what we discussed in PM @Jon, The Evil DM, and I think I have some ideas for the shifting qualities list. Its a little difficult to pick different positive qualities for the different Alters because so few fit into the needs for mental change. However, negative qualities are not hard at all so here's what I am thinking might work.
Instead of Weak Immune System which never really fit with the larger themes of the character, I'm giving Hikari the Iatrophobia. I've also added interesting positive qualities to Taiyo and Tsuki that should be fun to roleplay out. Here's the updated character sheet with the changes in Bold.

== Background ==

@PsionicHamster: Alright, sounds good. Everything checks out for me, as far as I can tell.
@MisterLurch: I replied to your PM, but I just realized something; I know you had mentioned having Blue Initiate, but I'm not seeing any record of that on his sheet? I have a feeling this may be the reason for why you're short something like 22 BP short according to Chummer? I just want to double check that's why.
@Kiradia: Sounds good on the quality swaps, and the things you've chosen for your character's differing personalities make sense to me. In particular, I really like that each of them has a different variant of Codeslinger that matches that personality, that was a particularly nice touch. As a thought, her aggressive personality seems kind of odd to have Low Pain Tolerance--I think it's fine to have it in general and it be swapped, but this personality doesn't seem the type--and I might suggest an alternative in the Vindictive quality from Runner's Companion? From what I've read, that personality definitely seems the type to be unforgiving of slights against them and it would fit why that personality might still hate Derek.
In terms of favorite weapons... I have a few, depending on the character. A character I'm playing here on the boards is wielding a re-skinned Shiawase Riot Guard shotgun--named the Ares Praetorian as he's a former Ares employee and trusts their products--because BF shotguns are always nice. The Shiawase Arms Tactical Model 73 is probably my favorite Automatic (who doesn't love an incredibly easy to achieve 125 round magazine?), and the Barrett Model 121 is my favorite sniper. Favorite pistol is the Ares Predator; it's sweet and simple and comes with a built-in Smartlink.

"So... you're telling me you want to work... as a building maintenance? Do you...", understand the meaning of the words? the old man considered his next words carefully. "You're aware of the job's requirements and understand what it entails, correct, Mr... uh... Aslahnov?"
-------------------------------------------------
Jameson Reese was a reasonable, well behaved, quiet dwarf, and a capable psychotherapist, and it was those qualities that had chosen him as the apartment complex superintendent for the 14th year in a row. So when there was a polite knock on his door at 8:30 in the morning, he simply assumed that it was a neighbour popping in for a cup of soykaf (or coffee, if it was Ms. Imahara), so he didn't bother to check the door camera to see who was there. It was probably Ms. Imahara.
It was not Ms. Imahara. As he glared at the newcomer from the feet up, his eyes couldn't help but notice the combat boots, the armour, the most extensive cybernetics he'd ever seen, paired with a gun the size of a dwarven bike, finishing with the face of an old ork with a somewhat nervous look on his face. Jameson kept surprising self-control, and with an only severely shaky voice, he greeted, "Uh... com... come on in?", gesturing towards an empty chair.
-------------------------------------------------
Ismail shuffled a bit on the tiny chair, trying his best not to lean over the dwarf. "It's taking care of building and inhabitants, yes? Clean, check people on door, collect money for, eh... communal renovation. Job offer said, it's quiet neighbourhood, but I also take care of security.", he added cautiously. Blyat, I've not applied for a job in over 15 years, and never a legal one in the UCAS. The door to the kitchen opened, a girl carrying a tray, three cups of coffee and a tray of pastries, appearing with a warm smile. Ismail turned around to look, before the chair warned him with a screech. "You may also be called to fix furniture, Mr. Aslanov!", she chuckled at the ork, who replied with a nervous laughter, picking up a cookie in his oversized, metallic hand. "I did not bring document, Mr. Reese, but I've been in the Army. I know how to clean, and keep security. I could also learn... what's it... carpentry, yes?", he turned a smile to the girl, who chuckled in response.
"Uh... That's great to hear, Mr. Aslanov.", replied the dwarf, going for the last bullet in his polite decline weapon. "And... do you have a SIN number? It's a contract job." Please, say no...
"Yes." Thank God I didn't erase that like they were dogging me to do., Ismail though, taking the cup in two fingers and taking a sip. "It's good coffee.", he commented awkwardly, putting the kitty-faced mug back on the table with extreme care.
"Uh... Mr. Aslanov.", the dwarf asked, fixing his tie. "That's... uh... great." He took solace into a cookie, before quietly surrendering deep inside. His professional pride, however, kicked in. "Mr. Aslanov, I have one more question. I'm a psychologist, and it's frankly out of personal curiousity, so I do hope you'll forgive my bluntness." He swallowed. "Why... do you want to work as a... building maintenance? I'm sure that you have... significantly broader...", he gulped again, staring at the machinegun casually leaning on the wall. "skillset?"
Ismail's faced turned somber for a moment. "It is honest work, I've heard. And I have twice monthly appointment in Our Lady of Grace Hospital, and it's close. I've also heard, this is quiet neighbourhood, with good people. Would like to see that for myself.", he shared sincerely. Up to three years, four if I hospitalise for the last one.
Jameson was many things, but imperceptive wasn't one of them. Connecting the dots quickly, he cleared his throat, nodding. "I see. Well, I think that'll be all. Thank you for your interest, and I'll notify you within a week of the results.", he said, standing up to reach Ismail's belt and extended a hand upwards. "I wish you a lovely day, Mr. Aslanov. And... don't forget your... self-defense tool.", he said with the grin of a man who's had his quiet, everyday world shaken for quite some time to come, yet he is convinced to captain it by his wishes nevertheless.
----------------------------------------------
"Hi dad! I'm home! Sorry I'm late, we had an injured bandit growling all over the place, and nobody else wanted to approach the poor thing.", Rachel shouted from the door as she walked in, waving at her father skimming through the newspaper on the couch. "C'mon! Tell me you hired him!"
Taking off his reading glasses with a sigh, the dwarf put down the video screen. "I haven't, yet, but think I may have to. Henry came in after you left, told me he's quitting the doorman job. Too stressful, especially after today."
"Well, I'm sure that he'd be able to handle the occasional solicitor as well. Did you see those arms!", she laughed, sitting down on the couch and giving her father a peck on the cheek.

I got to say, I've never played enough Shadowrun to get to combats heavy enough, or requisitions high enough to reach actual sniper rifles. Automatics seem to be really powerful, however, in all editions.
Gel rounds are really good, though, from what I can see, with no obvious drawbacks.
The most hilarious character I'd witnessed, however, was at a table in the games shop next door for a really high-powered game, where there was a troll with a bow with 19 STR requirement. Because you can't silence an Assault Cannon.
Regarding the post, that idea came up to me yesterday, and I thought of writing it up! I might change his contacts to include the girl, who's an Awakened veterinarian, and an all-around lovely person. Decisions, decisions.

@DM Jon: Yeah I didn't find the way to use chummer to initiate before transitioning it to a character "in play" so I left the 20 BP sitting there. I Am also debating the value of dumping the points into more spells instead and initating after the game starts. The other two just haven't been allocated yet. I sent you back some questions, and here is another: The spell Shapechange (SR4 pg 211) restricts the base change in the BOD attribute to +/-2. Will you allow any way around that, perhaps for a higher drain?
Blue is a Changeling Elf Shaman. He has never talked about his background and has never inquired into any of yours. When he was with the team, it took a long time before he was more than simply business. He likes old movies and Elven Rap. He had a habit of shapechanging into innocuous critters, and occasionally playing tricks on people.

![]() |

@MisterLurch: standard rules do not allow for initiation at CharGen. Not sure if there's a workaround in the house rules / options of Chummer.
Re: high level SR "needing" big old guns...all the stuff I've seen where the PCs needed assault cannons/large explosions/etc were scenarios the PCS got themselves into. An assault rifle is typically the biggest, nastiest piece most will ever need, and even then it's rare to actually NEED it.
Of course, the Ares Alpha is very very slick with the grenade launcher/AR combo. For the Automatics/Heavy Weapons sam or adept - quite nice.
