Sometimes the people that get the job aren't the best suited for it :-)
Deaglan glares back at Captain Merton. He remains silent while Hektolog introduces the Pathfinder group.

![]() |

Rapunzel smiles at the Consul as he examines the letter. "Pathfinder Rapunzel and company at your service sir." She gives a low bow. "I believe we posses a diverse enough group of skills to be of great service in safely returning your daughter." Looking over at Captain Merton smiling, she continues "And with your permission, of course, we'd like to speak to the Captain or anyone else who has looked into this matter before us."

![]() |

"Welcome to Sauerton, Pathfinders!" Tercio exclaims after reading the letter. "As I have told the guard, and the Eagle Knights before you, I have no interest in aiding you in the rescue of my daughter. I have received a threatening letter from the kidnappers, and so for her own safety, I cannot help you in this investigation."

![]() |

Sense Motive 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Sense Motive 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Deaglan grabs into his pouch and starts tinkering with his pipe.

![]() |

"A threatening letter, you say? Would you mind maybe showing the letter to us?" - Thosar asks bluntly, matching the Consul's tone. He reaches into one of many pockets on his robe, and takes a small domesticated rat, patting him lightly.
Not really match of a chance for me to get that DC20, but here goes...
Sense Motive 1: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Sense Motive 2: 1d20 ⇒ 19 Argh, almost there!!!

![]() |

Beromir hasn't said say a lot so far, simply listening to the discussions and letting people better diplomat than he to engage in the talks. He is intrigued and frowns a bit when Tercio Andares mentions that he received a threatening letter from the kidnappers.
Sense Motive 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Sense Motive 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

![]() |

Sense Motive 1: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Sense Motive 2: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Slightly taken aback by the Consul's response, Rapunzel say "If you don't mind Counsul Andares could you take a few moments from your busy schedule to write a letter of declination for us to return to Venture-Captain Brackett with? As my elven friend mentioned, if we could see the other letter out of professional curiosity that would be most excellent."

![]() |

First off, the sense motive rolls
Sense Motive 1: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Sense Motive 2: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
"Consul, we understand your predicament. We will, of course, do nothing that might endanger your daughter. Perhaps we can talk in your study, privately."
Now for the diplomacy
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
No luck with that, I think.

![]() |

Knowing that I'm rolling for an untrained Diplomacy, no modifiers check, here, I'd rather roll in support of someone (Aid another), but I'm guessing that GM would told us if that was an option. So, hear goes nothing...
Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 20
EDIT: Why, what do you know?! It would seem that elves do leave a long-lasting impression, even (especially?) when being arrogant ;-)

![]() |

Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Deaglan lights his pipe and stands up
We understand that our timing is not convenient, you had no way to know that we where coming. Can we make an appointment to discuss the situation with you later today or tomorrow?

![]() |

"No, I am sorry I cannot help you further. I am terribly busy, and must leave you now. Dorabeth will take care of you all. Good day, Sander." With that, Tercio Andares leaves you alone with Dorabeth, the Captain, and Sander Bryton.
You may talk to these NPC's, and reroll your Sense Motive Checks

![]() |

Sense Motive, 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Sense Motive, 2 was: 25 = 25
Deaglan has nothing to say at the moment. He is dumbfounded by the lack of interest Consul Andares is showing in the fate of his daughter.

![]() |

Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Rapunzel seems dumbstruck by what is happening in front of her. "Consul Bryton, perhaps we can call upon you later today?"

![]() |

Turning towards Bryton, Thosar can not but to notice: "Rather strange behavior, wouldn't you say? But I'm guessing that poor man must be under a lot of pressure these days, so we must forgive him. Pardon me, where are my manners? I do not think we have been acquainted officially - we are here on behalf of Pathfinder Society, sent by our superior Venture-Captain Brackett. The lovely, if a bit dangerous Lady here is Rapunzel, and we are...". As proper etiquette dictates, Thosar introduces every one of his compatriots, adding a snip of minor tidbits, where possible.
"Now Mr. Brighton, if I understood correctly, you are leading Eagle Knights, don't you? Could we be of some help to you maybe, since you seem to be interested in the kidnapping?"
Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 19

![]() |

Hektolog nods in agreement with Thosar. "I understand Consul Andares not wanting to risk endangering his daughter any more than she already is."
Turning to the Captain and Sander Bryton, Hektolog continues "I would think the two of you have an interest in seeing the kidnapper or kidnappers being exposed. Do you know what demands are contained in the letter? "
Sense motive on Capt. Merton: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Sense motive on Sander Bryton: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Assuming neither of you are involved that is, Hektolog thinks to himself.

![]() |

You are pretty sure neither of them is hiding anything about the kidnapping.
Dorabeth pulls Rapunzel aside. "Excuse me miss," she whispers. "I am terribly worried about Thalia. I will do whatever I can to help you!" This is where bringing up the book might be good...
Sander looks to Thosar. "I am not sure how you can assist me, except in just finding the girl." Don't forget about the military alliance To Hektolog: "I know nothing of this letter, but I do want the kidnapper, or kidnappers, found and brough to justice."
Captain Merton looks deep in thought. "If only we had more ideas about where she was being held... I know this town like the back of my hand!" he mutters.

![]() |

Deaglan approaches Captain Merton
"Ah, captain, might there be an abandoned building around town? I have heard that during, or shortly after, the Peoples Revolt a vineyard villa burned down. Has that been rebuild or is it still derelict?"

![]() |

Rapunzel says back to Dorebeth a little too loudly, "No, I'm afraid it really cannot wait." Looking back at her fellow Pathfinders for a split second then back to Dorebeth "It would seem my monthly visitor has changed travel plans without consulting me. If you please dear, can you show me somewhere I can have a moments privacy?"
Assuming Borabeth goes along, once out of sight Rapunzel will describe the scry scene as best she can. "Does any of that help give you an idea where she might be?"

![]() |

Hektolog joins Deaglan and the Captain.
"I agree with my associate, Captain. It may be fruitful to investigate abandoned buildings, ruins, or any structures that are known to be abandoned. They are all places where a person could be held without much risk of discovery. Is there anything that matches that description in or near town?"

![]() |

Deaglan/Hektolog: The halfling captain looks deep in thought for a moment. "Aha! I know exactly where that is! Let us finish here and make haste!" he exclaims.
Rapunzel: "Oh yes, Miss I understand that very much. Miss Thalia always wanted to retire to her room at such times." Dorabeth takes you out of sight, into another room. In answer to your question, "Miss Thalia, unlike her father, has always been very excited about books attributed to Lady Liberty. As a matter of fact, I remember seeing a man with a Galtan accent buying just such a book in town the other day!"

![]() |

"Great news! I will get ready to travel, Captain," says Hektolog.
He turns to Deaglan and says "This seems as good a trail as any. Do you think we can get everybody moving?"
Hektolog gathers his gear, checks the contents of his pack, and makes other minor adjustments as the others finish.

![]() |

Rapunzel perks up at the information, "That is excellent Dorabeth! Can you tell me the name of the book merchant and describe the man as best you remember?" After listening intently Rapunzel continues, "You'll forgive me for asking so...bluntly, but there are so many things wrong here I hardly know where to begin. Can you tell me anything else that sticks out in your mind from the last few weeks? Angry business dealings? Spurned young gentlemen? Unsavory Chelaxians? Counsul Andares is either apathetic to Miss Thalia's disappearance or frightened into paralysis by the people his is dealing with. Neither is a good outcome for Miss Thalia. We are here to help her."

![]() |

Deaglan nods to Hektalog "I sure think you can get everyone moving, you are a lot better with words than I am."
Deaglan looks around the room "It seems like Rapunzel is gone, as is the maid. Any idea where they are?"

![]() |

Not sure who Omar is talking to... Anything you want to say to Sander Bryton? Perhaps about a military alliance? *cough*
Dorabeth thinks for a moment, and then begins to shake her head. "I can't think of anything, miss. Miss Thalia spent a lot of time in her room reading. I know Master Tercio seems apathetic, but he loves his daughter very much and I know he misses her."

![]() |

Deaglan looks around the room "It seems like Rapunzel is gone, as is the maid. Any idea where they are?"
Trying to hold his composure absolutely straight, Thosar replies to the dwarf in the most nonchalantly manner he could: "I believe they have some lady talk to engage in. And you know how sensitive ladies can be, let us not interrupt them. Give them some time. Speaking of time..." - Thosar turns his attention to Bryton, flashing his most genuine smile - "...while waiting for the ladies to finish, this might be a good time to discuss little something. We have been tasked by the Pathfinder Society to humbly pass our request for military help from your mighty nation. We, just like almost anyone else in the world, are more than aware of the capability and excellence of Andoran military strength, especially represented by your Eagle knights. A man of your position is surely aware of the dire situation in the region of the Worldwound. Your military help would surely not go unnoticed, and would work a long way towards defeating the wretched demons so poised to taking the freedom and lives of the people living there. Also, your victory there would surely be lauded all over Absalom and the Inner Sea. What say you Sander, will you answer when destiny calls?"
diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 1
EDIT: All that talk and pfffft :-(

![]() |

Deaglan interrupts Thosar
"What my longwinded elven compagnion is trying to ask is: are you willing to lend your strength and that of your company to the crusade against the worldwound?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Yeah baby!

![]() |

Rapunzel asks Dorabeth "Do you think I could have a quick search of her room to see if anything else of assistance reveals itself?"

![]() |

Excuse me as I fall out of the chair laughing at what the dice just did. ROFL! That was one of the most fantastic things EVER! *Long, eloquent, diplomatic speech* FAIL. *Short, to the point, bluntness* PERFECT VICTORY!
Sander Bryton stands, eyes glazed, listing to Thosar go on, and on, and on, and on and... Then Deaglan rescues him and his eyes brighten again. "While I am open to the idea... You are going to have to convince me that the risk is worth it..." Ok, so maybe not perfect victory...
Meanwhile in another room, where the ladies have wandered off for "girl talk"...
"The scandal! I want to help... But that is a lady's room!" Dorabeth seems genuinely astounded at the idea.
1d20 ⇒ 17
Rapunzel responds, "But Dorabeth, dear, this could be the only way to find clues as to who is responsible." Wanted to get this moving so I rolled Diplomacy for you
Dorabeth's face rages with various emotions. Finally, she seems to cave. "Ok, but I can only take you, and maybe one other, and it has to be quick!"

![]() |

Not sure if I should roll an aid another or if its a new challenge in the conversation.
Getting close to Sander Bryton Nicolae tries to stress the importance of his comrade's request.
At the rate the demons are pouring out of that portal nowadays we will all be speaking abyssal next winter if the nations dont come together for mutual aid. And by the looks of it I better start practicing it.
Diplom: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15

![]() |

Rapunzel breathes a silent sigh of relief, "Hopefully this is fruitful." she thinks to herself. "Yes, thank you so much. I will be quick and I will not disturb anything."
If I'm allowed to take 10 searching her room I will: 10+7 = 17. Otherwise: Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

![]() |

Nicolae, it would be an aid another. As I said, that conversation is paused. Depending on what happens in Thalia's room, you guys might get another chance to roll Diplomacy. Rapunzel, the scenario doesn't specifically say, but I see no reason why you couldn't take 10, which is enought.
As Rapunzel looks about in Thalia's belongings, she uncovers a stash of hidden notes in one of Lady Liberty's books. The notes indicate that her family-including her fater, Tercio- may have conspired with other powerful political families to form new dynasties within the ostensibly democraatically elected seats of government around north and central Andoran. There is your possible Diplomacy reroll...

![]() |

Excuse me as I fall out of the chair laughing at what the dice just did. ROFL! That was one of the most fantastic things EVER! *Long, eloquent, diplomatic speech* FAIL. *Short, to the point, bluntness* PERFECT VICTORY!
What can I tell you. Not that I'm really happy I rolled a 1, but this is a team game, and as long my team is winning, I am more than happy to be outdone by the blunt dwarf ;-) Anyway, waiting to be "unpaused" here

![]() |

Rapunzel tries to memorize the names she sees (unless it seems like Dorabeth won't care she takes the notes). She thanks Dorabeth profusely and returns to her fellow Pathfinders. "Truly sorry for that, gentlemen. Shall we go?"

![]() |

"I am ready if everybody else is," says Hektolog. Then he continues, "It seems the Captain might have a place we can look for leads."
Hektolog takes a short pause to see if anybody needs more time to move.
"Lead on, good Captain."

![]() |

"Miss, what are those? Why do you see the need to hide them from me?"
When Rapunzel shows Dorabeth the notes, "Oh, Tercio is incapable of such things. These notes are idle fancy. Please, take them. But come! We must hurry before someone notices we are here."
Before we continue, these notes do give you another chance to roll the Diplomacy check to complete your secondary objective, the military alliance. With a bonus, I might add.
