Background:

Hektolog was raised in the Brimstone Haruspex, specifically bred as a half-orc by the Orc monks to try to increase the cunning and mental abilities of the Haruspex. Hektolog became an apprentice at the customary age of 7, and was regularly abused by the Orc Shaman and the other apprentices alike.

One day, while working in the bowels of the Brimstone Haruspex, Hektolog was overcome by the noxious gases in the tunnels under the volcano. Though Hektolog was unable to speak or understand the other Orcs, he gained a new mastery of fire and was able to inflict terrible, burning wounds on the apprentices around him. A few days later, Hektolog was the only apprentice to leave the caverns under the Brimstone Haruspex. Seeing this omen, the established shamans could not deny the right of Hektolog to join their ranks.

Shortly after his reluctant acceptance by the Oracles in the Haruspex, Hektolog discovered that many of the Orcish leaders were frauds, relying on tricks and trinkets to convince others of their power. Hektolog knew that he would never be able to survive the constant stream of assassination attempts that would be directed his way, so he left the Hold of Belkzen and wandered the countryside looking for a purpose. Eventually, he came across the Pathfinder Society and saw it as a place to get protection from the outside world and to increase his own wealth and power.
