Vuvu, as you study the altar you become convinced the aura is coming from inside the altar itself.

Trotter, you notice was appears to be a hidden panel on the back of the altar. You also find a massive key that appears to be made out of solid platinum in one of the fur mounds - the key has to be worth thousands of gold by weight alone.

A 20-foot-tall golden statue of Karzoug, Runelord of Greed, stands in the southern portion of this chamber, his hands before him as if they may have once held an object between them. A brazier stands before the statue, plumes of smokeless fire churning inside of it. North of the statue stands a stone pagoda-like structure, a single opening in its southern face revealing two smaller statues of Karzoug within, on either side of a twentyfoot-
long sarcophagus bearing the likeness of the runelord on its golden lid. To the west, a massive pair. of golden double doors shimmers behind a hazy screen of golden energy.

Worse, an enormous, bestial demon combines the worst aspects of a bear, a mantis, a wolf, and a reptilian humanoid sits before that energy field.

with his mighty initiative of 10, the lagging-behind hillbilly goes near the end of the round: from where he was behind the party (Y-20, maybe?), he saw Vars charge off to fight something, and Trotter backing up while wishing for luck. Knowing he should back up Vars -- but he'll never get there on time without magic -- Duhwoo finally stops picking his nose and wanders in, popping his wand o' Dimension Door from its wrist sheath as he moves. When he gets to the end of his single move action, he can see the foe:

"Gosh -- y'all are a big feller! D'ya likes ta dance? Ah done made up a dancin' call specially fer jumbo goons ta swing 'round ta -- let me know if'n ya wants to hear it!"

Seeing where Vars wound up -- and having called attention to himself across the room -- for his standard action Duh will use the wand to D-Door behind the big creep (right on the 'P' -- square P-0, I guess?)...

with any luck, he won't know if the wand was Invisibility or Teleport or Vanish or D-Door or what -- so the demon might not know there's a guy right behind him for a few seconds or so...

Then he extends a hand and five brillant spears of light slam into Vars.

I don't think you appreciate how over-leveled you are for this adventure.

Duhwoo and Vars manage to slice up the shemhazian demon and molten blood erupts from wounds that falls onto the floor and then fades from the floor as the tether keeping the demon on the Naterial Plane fades.
