Apologies to Quillin and Tipene... but circumstances have backed us into the impasse, especially when Rackham and Iscarel took a runner from the convoy.
Also - the Lanteri situation was spoiled by Rackham when you got collared, so the bloke already knows that even if not friends you were at least acquainted in that regard.

In other news - starting tomorrow at roughly lunchtime my time I'll be taking a four day holiday. A quick vacation across to P+*@et... or for the benefit of Paizo's confusing wordfiltery boards Pooket.
I'll have my tablet and keyboard with me - so should still manage to keep up with things as they go, but if I'm a bit tardy that'd be the reason why.
Iscarel - are you essentially being compliant for the short term? - or pending Bek's reaction first before committing?

DM - Voice of the Voiceless |

Well I'm back in KL now, and mostly returned to being a functional human again... I'm not underselling the fact that the last four days were basically the worst I have felt in living memory - cold sweats, aching joints, fever, the works. And in true murphy's law fashion - arrived on Friday night, managed a meal before getting sick. Stuck in foetal recovery position for roughly three and a half days... before feeling a bit better at roughly midday on Tuesday... just in time to fly back to KL.
Now that I'm back I'll be back on track in thread and shall have us ticking along shortly. Appreciate the patience with my critical wellness failure ;)

Impromptu trip to Melbourne this week, I apologise for not checking in beforehand. I expected a quiet journey that I could check in and post, was not expecting the kind of fiasco we had on the way down. Semester starts back soon so my posting will return to something a little more regular.

Bloody Bek |

May as well take this as the opportunity to mention that this is Gen Con week for me too. I'm not as optimistic as Rackham. I know I'll be out of the picture from sometime on Wednesday until late Sunday or possibly Monday. Feel free to bot me as needed to keep things moving.

James Rackham |

Yeah, I've been pretty busy prepping for Gencon and taking care of my other responsibilities. I can do a couple posts today, if it helps.

Although I've stated this multiple times, in many different ways - barring some kind of statistical miracle this will not end well for Iscarel. Similarly, given that multiple warnings and indications have been given any outcomes from the affray will not be sugar coated, nor mollycoddled.
If you're really really really chasing that quite small potential chance for this to go your way... I can't stop you. But unless that miracle arrives and tilts fate your way... Lanteri will not have any interest in taking you on as crew.
Similarly, the rest of the party has but a small leverage with Hinsin / Lanteri at this point in time. Sure, you're the last persons standing... but she can always take the third option and not take anyone on.
Being a Calistrian doesn't mean that you need to avenge every single slight within two seconds of it happening... nothing's stopping you from finding out another means to seek your vengeance.

Twigs |

This seems like a bit of a 180 from Lanteri's crew.
Being a Calistrian doesn't mean that you need to avenge every single slight within two seconds of it happening...
That's not my intention here. Only to do so in a way that doesn't further derail the campaign. Up until this point we've been told that we need to compete in each of the games. Injecting some personal stakes didn't seem amiss, especially in a non-lethal competition where the only thing at stake is Iscarel's pride. If I win, we can put this grudge to bed. If I lose, I nurse it a little longer.
I'm an elf. I can put him on my list, wait fifty years, and steal candy from his grandchildren. It's no skin off of Iscarel's nose. It's a little disheartening to see Lanteri turn her back on me when the only reason I'm in trouble with the law in the first place is to compete in her bloody competition.
"It's Bloodgrog tomorrow night, and my crew and officers'll be soaking the sights and taking in the games. Show 'em what yer made of in those and you'll rank higher in their eyes and mine... just depends if you're in for a wage or a journey."
We've fought long and hard to do just that, all five of us. Up until now it's been our only ticket off the island, as has been stated multiple times. If I've done something to jeopardize that, not just for Iscarel but the entire party, please let me know what it is, and what I can change about Iscarel to stop him making enemies of every NPC and causing so much frustration on your part.
TL;DR I'm not set on a fight and am slightly concerned by the moving goalposts and frequency at which I'm pissing you off please help me amend this.

Twigs |

As an aside, I'll be tied up with a play from the 18th-22nd and posting may begin to slow.
I'm also starting up a solo game for a friend who's interested in the game. Does anyone have any prior experience with such things, particularly appropriate encounter levels for a 1st level solo PC and what parts of the rules I should be showcasing? If anybody wants to weigh in with their two-cents that would be spectacular.

Yes - impressing the officers is a big goal... however that essentially got short circuited by a certain gnome with a parrot on his shoulder. The actions centered around that affray have essentially removed ginger ++ from the running.
It's not apparent yet - but if the alchemist is talked with, you'll find that the half-orc impressed the Caydenite priest enough that he's been taken on as an initiate (which removes the half-orc and the halfling from the running)... which leaves only the party left over. The job is actually already yours.
My original design intent was to provide three opportunities to let you throw shade on the competition. The drinking contest, the Mad Dash, and finally the Pit was the fallback if things hadn't been established yet. Turns out no-one jumped at the drinking contest, and Quillin was bored enough to murder the hypoteneuse prior to the Mad Dash... so the Pit is there as a final destination, but without any narrative drive from behind the screen (as your opposition is already 'eliminated')
I know that you don't IC quite know this yet, but had there been a mite bit of patience (as in seeing what Hinsin / the Captain came back with rather than pushing to impress further) then it would've become plain. I mean the whole reason that you came with Hinsin to the pit initially was to talk to Lanteri wasn't it?
That said, I'm not concerned at all at the desire to put another marker down... what I am concerned with is your choice of who to call out. Bruno is beyond your individual skill - fullstop. You know this both OOC and IC... and yet it's still him that you've chosen. You could've picked any other mug in the room, even OOC'd that you wanted to pick out a particularly drunk looking guy... but you went for the opponent that you knew was well beyond your abilities.
Why? - why choose an opponent that's highly likely to send you to the floorboards? - how is that going to impress Lanteri? - why not pick someone that you've a much better chance against?

Quillin |

Yes - impressing the officers is a big goal... however that essentially got short circuited by a certain gnome with a parrot on his shoulder.
Guilty!!
well, if we already got it, Hinsin should have been a bit more forthcoming. The implication was that we had to participate in the pit.
If we're good, let's move on. The Lilywhite Watch is on our Grudge List though.

Bloody Bek |

Guilty in my own way of inciting Iscarel. For my part, I was going to wait and see if an obvious opportunity to impress Lanteri came along, but felt that if Iscarel was going to take on Bruno, I would at least try to give him the best shot possible.

James Rackham |

Hi guys, I just wanted to say that my interest in the game hasn't waned. I'm still excited for it, I'm just trying my hand at RPG Superstar this year and I'm still alive so I've been spending a lot of my "Paizo time" with that.
Yo ho, me hearties, yo ho!

James Rackham |

Thanks! I thought I was culled yesterday, but woke up this morning to find that I'm still going. The item round ends tomorrow, so I'm sketching out my first draft of my map now on the off-chance that I make the top 32. I definitely should've worked on this last night when my whole family was asleep by 8:30 (that never happens)!
Yeah, my son's birthday is today and I have some work to do for school. Definitely should not have wasted that time. But, I have 1.5-2 hours of commuting every day to work so I have plenty of design time, just need to put it on paper. Map round, not my strongest. I wish the creature or encounter round was first, but oh well. I'll give it my best shot (and of course, I have to GET to the round of 32 first).

DM - Voice of the Voiceless |

Not 100% sold on requiring one, but understand the drive of where the question is coming from.
Less bookwork is easier on all of us, and I found the crew influencing in the first book of Skulls and Shackles tiresome and metagamey.
Instead I was more thinking of a 'How much does the crew like you-o-meter.' - which is currently sitting at a 'Skeptical' level.
If there's a desire to have a more personal connection / cats-paw on the ship, then we can flesh out a likely suspect and provide a bit more life to them specifically.

Iscarel |

My guess is we'll be entirely reliant on consumables. Let's hope we can pick some up before we make port (at which point we can probably muster up the coin for a wand for Bek. I'll invest in UMD in the mid-levels so Iscarel can sport a happy stick of his own.

DM - Voice of the Voiceless |

Treat Deadly Wounds works fine - but RAW it takes an hour to apply, so again is very much an out of combat activity.
Quillin - usual half-drunk surgeon, a sailmender who is good with thread and a low level adept style Besmaran priest with some 'questionable' herbal remedies (CLW).
As to the infernal healing I was thinking more along the lines of an X/day gourd of the same. As in providing for fast healing 1 for 10 rounds.

Iscarel |

The Unchained rules added some extra uses to the heal skill. I could invest, but my wisdom penalty might be a pain.

Provisos and notes and such:
Myself and family will be travelling off to London for both the Rugby World Cup, and taking my mum back to the UK for the first time since she emigrated about 50 years ago. Will be fun... not so much the transit (kids plus planes = tired parents) but once we get there much fun and frivolity should ensue.
We have wifi at the accommodations I'm going to, but I can't promise that I'll be around often enough to get frequent posts in, nor verbose ones if the situation calls for it. When you combine that with the relative verbosity required of the DM position... it makes it somewhat untenable. So for that reason I'll be calling a pause on the campaign while I'm away.
I'll be back in KL and ready for resumption of general service on the 9th-10th ish of October.

DM - Voice of the Voiceless |

I'd wish you a pleasant journey but I think Heathrow airport might be the eighth circle of hell. I can however wish you a spectacular trip. All the best!
Heathrow flying in to Britain was a fabulous experience... flying out though... *shudder*
Well we won't be touching Heathrow anyhow - we'll be flying in and out of Gatwick with Emirates. Time will tell whether it's any better though.
