Congrats Hmm, may you keep your sanity over the holidays with your new responsibilities. And your upcoming BuA table :)
Heh, the responsibilities showed up before the title was even official. Part of the reason I was quiet this week was that I've been trying to figure out responsibilities, and get started on some of the projects that I've been handed.
Part of it is also holidays, which are a crazy season. Although GMing two PBPs will be tough in January, you guys will make it far easier. I won't have to drag you along, which is a huge relief.
Hmm

I'm looking forward to it!

I was hunting around trying to find if spell-like abilities, wands/staves, scrolls, etc can be counterspelled? Any thoughts? Counterspelling is the basis of this character so I figure I should be familiar with it.
PS, Sorry for any headaches it causes you in the future Red.

Don't mind me, slowing down the battle with Obscuring Mist! It saved my bacon once when my magus was ambushed by Crossbow-packing Rogues and I never forgot it.
Mr. Peppers
|
No worries here. I was just responding as Mr Peppers would to someone else dare using magic around him...
GM Red
|
I think scrolls can be countered. The user is still casting the spell, they're just reading some arcane drivel before doing so. Spell triggers items like wands and staves... Probably not.
GM Red
|
Careful, certain overly attached dwarven clerics may be nearby...
Sir D. Arthraven
|
I think scrolls can be countered.
GM: The warrior moves closer, and readies an action.
PC: I take out my super sexy spell scroll, and read it to cast disintegration on the ogre barbarian henchman.
GM: The warrior throws his axe and destroys your scroll.
PC: ....that's cruel :(
Mr. Peppers
|
Good thing I'm hiding in some ARCANE fog. The divine version tastes much stronger of tears and lost hope.
D: Ya, with readied actions or aoo's you can really mess up someone's day that's using consumables.

Is there a scroll being read right now that I missed?
EDIT: No, just the GM answering a hypothetical. Okay!
Lizzy "Beads" Tamar
|
That so?
In purpose of destructive power, sure.
In purpose of keeping your allies patched up on the spot, Divine beats arcane.
And err....in the hearing for example:
Torag be praised!, sounds better than say "Mana be praised!"
Or, to partially quote Mr Jeff Dunham's SDD: "Fine wine that's divine anytime.", instead of "Fine wine that's arcane anytime."
Just some thoughts.
Mr. Peppers
|
Ya I play divine casters more often, being able to heal and bring people back from the dead is pretty nice. BUT! I just wanted to argue on the behalf of the Arcane :)
Yer turn Cup! We gots gobbos to lay low!
Mr. Peppers

Happy Sunday! The smell of frying onions and moose steak fill the air! Enjoy your football and gift wrapping.
Sir D. Arthraven
|
Happy Sunday?
(Looks out of the window)
The weather is as gloomy as your pic's expression. ;)
It'll be rice, vegs & chicken tonight.
Mr. Peppers
|
Ya its pouring rain here too, but at least its cleaning up the snow from the last few days. Friday it barely got above 0F during the day, and today its supposed to be in the low 50s? Crazy weather pattern.
Sirettis
|
It's over 50 degrees in Boston, but it's gonna drop below 20 overnight. Monday's gonna be an icy mess.
Cup
|
It's icy here. Bot me, please. I'm GMing today.
GM Red
|
Sorry, my morning was busy attempting to fix a leaky faucet and then realizing I have zero skill in plumbing or pretty much anything involving tools. I was born with a mouse in my hand, not a hammer... Ah, first time homeowner woes...
GM Red
|
I don't like being unfair so I took that question to the boards, and it looks like the goblin was indeed able to do that.
Mr. Peppers
|
Ha! Red I'm doing the same thing today but luckily I have a roomate with some plumbing skills to educate me. I've got to replace the whole kitchen faucet and sprayer and quickly found out one of the shutoff values was broken so now we're cutting out and replacing both of those... a waste of good football watching time.
PS, Cup dodged a possible crit there! Go fog go!
GM Red
|
I called my plumber cousin over and he was able to take it apart. It just needs a new cartridge but we couldn't find one in that model at the hardware store so I'll likely have to order it and won't get it until I'm back from my trip... The leak's pretty bad, I've let it go for months and it keeps getting worse so I'll have to turn off the water before I travel, just in case.
You guys are strategically positioned too, the goblins have no concealment where they're currently standing but you do, and they have no way of getting through without eating some AoOs.
GM Red
|
Hmmm, there may be some retconning. I had forgotten that swimming is done at half speed as a full round action... meaning the goblin may not have been able to do that after all.
Sir D. Arthraven
|
There's, convenient for Sirettis, a Sylph race feat, named Cloud Gazer.
It lets them see through fog and mist. :)
GM Red
|
Corrections made. Sorry. I try to stay on top of rules but I forget from time to time.
Mr. Peppers

There's a lot of rules, and you certainly know them better than I. Getting the rules right on the first try isn't near as important as telling a good story and putting it in text. We're all constantly learning as we go! (And stompin gobbo faces as we do!)
Sirettis
|
Okay, casting Obscuring Mist was worth it. I'll have to look into Cloud Gazer, although it looks kind of situational (and I can only triple my sight through magical fog.) Back to sleep duty!
Sir D. Arthraven
|
It makes me think of a Sylph underground chemist/knife master. :)
With the Bomber rogue talent.
Cup
|
Very nicely done with the mist, and don't worry about the rules, Red. I'm constantly messing up. Still going to be a while before I can post for real.
Just finished my 70th table. Yay!
Hmm
Sirettis
|
I read 700th table and did a double take.
Congrats on the 70th table, Hmm!
Cup
|
70 is enough!
Hmm
Sir D. Arthraven
|
70....my count is at a mere 41. ^^
Edit:
It appears my workdays during any week are subject to change, as i get to hear which days of the week they need me.
So expect little on Mon, Wed & Thu between 7:30 and 16:45 Amsterdam/Berlin timezone.
GM Red
|
Yep.. Should be through with them today.
Also yes, the trumpeter is yellow, aka Izgarp, and she's already snoozing.
Cup
|
Ack! I thought Sirettis had targetted someone else. No, I would not wake the sleeper. Give me a moment to redirect.
EDIT: DONE.
Hmm
Mr. Peppers

Things aren't looking good for the gobbos. I can see blue floating along downstream with his dog buddy chunks.
Sirettis
|
They tried.
GM Red
|
Well, the main threat has been CDGed. The other two are pretty much fodder.
Cup
|
If 70 is enough then I'd expect no 71 in the future?
No, Silly. As you well know, I have upcoming tables either in progress or scheduled already.
Huh. Looking at just what I have scheduled so far, I have another six tables showing up in January.
Mr. Peppers
|
Ahoy! Happy trembling Tuesday... both for the goblins and the farmers as well as the outside temps... -13F on my drive in.. damn.
GM Red
|
It's pretty cool here as well, about -23F for comparison.. At least there's not a whole lot of snow.
I'm leaving in 5 days so I'm hoping we get to a point to have a logical break. I think we might depending on what happens with these gobs...
