Here we should clear the relationships in the group before starting the game. All completely OOC posts (rules, general talk, leaves of absence, etc.) go here.
The adventuring party (all except Kusanorr) starts a journey after several weeks of stay in the town of Karakuru. Whether you met there or arrived together or in groups is up to you. OOC will be faster for this. I have put up the opening post of the gameplay to put you in context.

Daka Makoa |

Hi ho everybody, Daka Makoa reporting in from a UTC+1 timezone. I've had a read through all of your backgrounds and it certainly seems like we all have adventurers of some sort (whether seeking truth, justice, or power/prestige).
I don't know how y'all want to start our respective character's relationships, but I think it would be nice if at least most of them know each other a bit before they arrived in town. But I'm open to however people want to play it.
@Traveller Elbin: How would you prefer the top bar status formatted? Like this, all spoilered, or something completely different? :)

You can leave the HP visible, but everything after that can be in a spoiler so text is not broken much. Contents are OK though.

Hello. Checking in here. I'm at EST if it matters (Florida).
Thanks for the invite, GM.
Will give some more interaction after I finish church. Have a great morning.

Thanks for the invite! Really glad to be part of this. I'm at an UTC -8 time zone, I typically check before I go to work and after work :)
I see some similarities in that each of us somewhat had a troubling past that shapes our journey.
Throwing out some ideas. It could be that we met at a tavern after a long days work? Maybe we heard the mysterious tale of the inn at a tavern, each having our own motivations decided agreed to form the party and made our ways there?

Traveller Elbin |

@Edmund: No, timezones matter not :) I am UTC+3.
@Kusanorr: No, you're not. However, I think I have a way to get you into the game a bit faster, so follow the gameplay thread for Kusanorr spoilers.
@Torcet Pak: Actually the inn is just a piece of rumour you hear in Karakuru. How you got there (in Karakuru; you may even live there) is another matter. Take a look at the gameplay thread for details.

![]() |

Hadn't notice the gameplay thread! How intriguing!
Maybe some of us had heard a plea of towns person from Karukaku. Her brother had gone missing and she is searching for divine help in the tavern. I could see Daka and myself having the motivation to help the lady, one from a perspective of saving lifes, and the other just for the thrill of finding a missing person.
Not sure if the missing person would fit into the GM's story though.

Edmund the Tainted |

Trying to find connections we could have between characters...
Kusanorr, I don't see any kind of story, personality, or anything to work with on your character. I just see "I'm a Kasatha with two arms instead of four" so I'm not sure why Edmund would know you or travel with you, etc.
I'd say Edmund has in common with Torcet a desire to put emotions on the back burner. Edmund is curious about his fiendish heritage - he's not sure if the man who raised him is really his father, and somewhere at least two generations down the line is some obvious diabolism, so any investigation into that he can do could be useful. He would be willing to offer protection as a partnership to team up and find out more.
Daka is also a race typically shunned by men, and the tiefling counts himself less judged by half orcs, so he would have little issue with him (even though Ed is not by any stretch of the imagination good). Having a hard time finding out how else they would be connected. Which god, by the way, are you a cleric of?

Daka Makoa |

Not sure we need a specific missing person. Surely the rumours of half the travellers going missing would be enough to pique Torcet's interest? The weird silences adding that supernatural twist he loves so much. It certainly seems like a worthy mystery to me.
Daka may be convinced that an evil lies in them thar hills and is spurred on be a similar sense of curiosity as Torcet. He'd love to shed some light on the situation... Hehe my first bad pun.

Daka Makoa |

Woops, Ninja-ed.
@Desmund: He is a Cleric of Sarenrae, perhaps Daka sees Edmund as someone he could help redeem? Underneath that gruff exterior is a fluffy bunny waiting to be set free. In any case, I think that he might feel he has a lot in common with Edmund.

Hello all.
1) Sorry for my ignorance...but how do you get the top to display hp?
2) I'm from Illinois, USA.
3) As for Shirak and Leyafold, I feel in their travels they heard rumors about this strange place. As unnatural as it sounds, Shirak must investigate and try to restore the balance in this region. Joining with other adventurers is a wise decision given his lack of experience traveling the world.

Daka Makoa |

Hello Shirak, you can add HP and stuff by adding it to either the race or the classes/levels box in your profile.

Traveller Elbin |

@Edmund: Kusanorr is unknown to the rest of the group at the beginning. Story has been omitted intentionally, but you will be meeting him... shortly.
@Torcet: Adding a specific story works for your character as a personal motivation to explore the region. However, others may have other motivations. A missing person can be fitted into the story easily.

![]() |

@Torcet missed that post earlier, I'm good with meeting at a tavern and heading out together.
Shirak and Leyafold stopped by the tavern to gain more information about the strange occurrences in the nearby countryside (assuming there is little more info to be gained at this point). They would readily agree to join you as you are traveling in a similar direction.

Daka Makoa |

Righto, it sounds like a bit of a meet up at the tavern. At least for Daka and Shirak, both hearing about the strange occurrences and wishing to balance things out (from their own point of view). Oh, and obviously if there is a missing person involved, Daka would be all to keen to help find them.
Torcet and Edmund do sound like they might make a good partnership, perhaps they were already travelling together before meeting Shirak and Edmund at the tavern?

![]() |

Sounds good! Edmund and Torcet could have been at the town with the tavern to follow up on leads of his past. (@Edmund Do we want to add more to this?) I'm good with mysterious occurrences enough to motivate the party, thought the missing person might add a bit more. Either way is good for me :)

Edmund the Tainted |

No it sounds fine to me. Leads to that or your missing person, whatever is easiest for the GM.
Ed is evil, so he needs something selfish to motivate him, but he's lawful evil, like Magneto, so he can play with the good guys when it suits his purpose without backstabbing anyone. He isn't evil for evil's sake or a psychopath. He's just selfish and organized and strong willed, so when he sets his mind to something, he will let his ends justify the means.
So if he has a goal, he can be a real team player.

![]() |

Whoops. That was me, not gridger. I think it makes sense if we were traveling to the tavern town in leads for your past. Makes sense then for you to follow. But do we find anything into your past there?
It might be easiest to call it a dud and from there we move on to the mysterious rumours or missing person (whichever we decide), for me it's a motivation in itself to solve things and for Edmund it could be he just wanted to take his mind of the disappointment of the false lead to his past.
I'm open to anything :)

Traveller Elbin |

Torcet, I can offer a bit of personal motivation for you (and maybe someone else...).
While in Karakuru you hear not of a particular disappearance (there have been a lot of missing people on the north road anyway), but of appearances! There have been cases of bodies of strangers found on the shores of the Porthmos river near the town about once a year, and they were thought to have washed up on shore (although none bore the markings of drowning or having spent much time in the water). However, there is also a single living person that was found one night close to the river bank barely alive. His mind has been addled by an unknown ordeal and no one knows his name. He spends his time sitting at a spot near the town dock, sometimes helping workers there. As you go near him you see he has drawn multiple small circles in the dust around him, all containing a cross. When asked about the sign he grins and says "Modeu!" with a wide smile on his face, but nothing else. After questioning him the only clear phrase you get is "black fog", which draws a look of deepest terror on the man's face. From this point forward he only whines and shakes his head at your questions, pushing you away, finally pointing to the north with a mad expression and bellowing an unintelligible cry at you. When you seek him out the next day he runs from you, refusing to even look in your direction.

Traveller Elbin |

You met at "The unseen dancer" tavern in Karakuru, the druid and the cleric with their search for good and balance, the fighter and the bard with their own mysteries and agendas filling their minds. After a few days/weeks you decide to head out north together. All information in the first gameplay post is considered common for you, and the above note on people appearing near the river may have been shared by Torcet and Edmund with the others if they wish (just make it clear when you say you're ready to start).
Add any general details if you wish and when all four have approved that story we can start the gameplay right away.

Daka Makoa |

I'm happy with that. Just let me know if you want Torcet or Edmund to share their extra little mystery with Shirak and Daka, or if you both want to keep that to yourselves.

Traveller Elbin |

Then simply respond to the gameplay thread. Post order is not enforced.

Daka Makoa |

Looking forward to see how Spheres of Power work for you Kusanorr, I was so tempted to convert Daka to that system.

It's my first time using it. I feel like the At Will abilities can make powers more interesting even when they are fewer. The Spheres allowed me to make a character that is completely focused upon dimensional travel and the conflict of positive and negative energies in a wormhole, which is an important part of my backstory. It's hard for me to imagine something similar using Vancian casting.
Here's a wiki with all the material in the book (plus more, I think).

What would you guys prefer to use for instant communication (barring sleeping hours of course): Viber or Google Hangouts? Or something else?

Traveller Elbin |

Why don't you just use this and PMs? I don't really think we need more...
I don't think we need more, but was just following some advice read in the PbP and GM threads on the forums. It's my first game so I thought I'd offer the opportunity. I check these forums ten times a day anyway :)

Daka Makoa |

The plot thickens :)
I just have a question or two before I post. Is it possible for Daka to see if this area of silence and falling dust is very localised, like if we are stuck in the middle of some malevolent spell (with a smallish radius)?

** spoiler omitted **
You'd have to leave the afflicted area to notice its boundaries, as it's not really a spell. You can't see the edge of the effect in any way, and dust was simply a temporary result of the gust of wind dying out.

I'm so sorry :( that last one was on me n my fault completely. Anyway to edit it now?
Don't worry, just keep your wits about you when posting please.

Daka Makoa |

Yeah, I'm always doing that. Just remember to click preview or check your post after making it and it's an easy fix :)
