"This gets stranger all the time. What do you make of it?"

Arcana: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

"Powerful magic but beyond that I do not know", Krojun says with a ponderous nod.

"Little one, do you think you could make it to that wand?"

Male Eidolon(Quadruped) (HP 10/10; AC:16, T:14, FF:13; Fort:+2 Ref:+5 Will:+0; Init+3; Perception +12) (Effects: None)

"I can try." Copper attempts to get to the floating wand as he leaps into the air.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

It's easy to get the wand, or anything else you might want to grab, as you float right up to it when you enter the room. It appears that the entire room seems to be under a levitate effect of some kind, effecting everything equally.

Male Eidolon(Quadruped) (HP 10/10; AC:16, T:14, FF:13; Fort:+2 Ref:+5 Will:+0; Init+3; Perception +12) (Effects: None)

Copper paddles around as if he were swimming at first and then grabs the wand to bring it back to Krojun. "I got it!"

We'll grab everything that could be valuable. I assume the rotting bird is not valuable.

"Good work little one", Krojun offers as he takes the wand from the tiny eidolon.

"We should come back with someone that might be able to read what's written on these walls", the big shoanti says. "They might explain what's been happening."

To the staircase.

Male Eidolon(Quadruped) (HP 10/10; AC:16, T:14, FF:13; Fort:+2 Ref:+5 Will:+0; Init+3; Perception +12) (Effects: None)

Agreed.

Copper just grins at the praise as he follows the rest.

The scroll is obscure object, the wand is undetectable alignment and has 26 charges, the unopened bottle of wine is 10 gp.

The staircase coils down, and hits blockage almost immediately. It would seem that it survived as well as the other staircase in the great cataclysm, which is to say, not at all. Oddly enough, the surface of the rubble flashes with the same strange energy as the levitation room. This time, though, the words are more thematic, focusing on topics of wrath, anger, revenge, and the like; again they fail to make up complete, coherent thoughts.

And that is the dungeon known as the Catacombs of Wrath. We'll take some time to rp to see who returns after the holiday madness.

How long do we want to wait for people to return? I have at least one person that expressed interest in joining.

I'll wait and see who posts tomorrow, and make a decision on Tuesday about how to proceed.

"Let's get back above so we can check on Ameiko and report what we have found. I'm certain the sheriff will want to know what's been hidden below these Glassworks. Perhaps he can point us towards someone that can read that ancient script."

"Also, I don't want to be late for my shift at the Kitten", the big shoanti says with a with a laugh.

The sheriff is out of town, and will be for a good week. That's why you're here.

Reporting back to town, you manage to catch Shelalu before she departs, and who promptly sits down with you to share information. She frowns rather heavily when you mention the names from the journal, especially at Bruthazmus, and fills you in on the local goblin intel (see campaign tab for details). Afterwards, she heads out to Thistletop to do some recon while you plan your next move.

"Speaking of work, I should check in with the captain." Rohan makes his way to the Orca to tender his resignation before after he checks on Ameiko to make sure she's okay. This goblin situation was bigger than anything he had even read about, at the very least he should see it through, whatever that entailed.

Krojun thinks long and hard on the information as they relay it back to Shelalu. What was the connection? Was the goblin attack connected to the ancient ruins underneath Sandpoint? Where did Ameiko's family fit into all of it? What was the real threat that the spirits were trying to warn him about?

Even after their report is finished, the various disconnected pieces weigh heavily on him and the normally boisterous shoanti is unusually quiet as he bids his companions farewell and leaves for his shift at the Kitten.

Old Characters First

Krojun:
You head to the Kitten trying to clear your head, and find that at least their is a fresh distraction. There is a new dancer present, a magnificent gypsy lady that apparently is working here while trying to get on at the theatre.

Rohan:
You and Copper have a quiet evening in the Rusty Dragon common room. There are very few visitors left at this point, and even the farmers from the surrounding region have mostly gone home, so it's a quiet room as the night wears on, with only a few locals hanging on for one final drink before heading home.

Talon:
You proceed to the various stores upon emerging to sell some of your latest acquisitions. As you are shopping, you find that the merchants seem to be more willing than before to haggle favorable prices than before, and you catch occasional comments along the lines of "The old man can deny it all he wants; merchanting is in that boy's blood, and he's better off accepting it and making use of it, if you ask me."

Is Ameiko in or has she taken the day off?

Rohan is eating his food quietly as he ponders this odd situation. He starts inquiring to Ameiko's whereabouts.

Krojun watches the new girl with rapidly growing interest.

She only sings and dances? I hope the patrons understand the difference.

Zelladanyia:
The festival was overall a positive experience for you, and you were able to make a fair bit of coin helping out Cyrdak's regular troupe, though your friendship with Ameiko has Cyrdak himself being hesitant to act on making anything permanent. Still, even he has dropped a few comments that if you keep it up, he could probably find a place for you in his next show. Until then, you take work when and where you can find it, though with the end of the festival, there aren't many options. You finally take yourself to the Kitten, the local brothel, and offer your services as a dancer only. The crowd is what you would expect from such a business, though the Shoanti bouncers keep things pretty quiet, especially since one of them on duty tonight is one of the folks that has acquired a fair bit of local fame with their actions against the goblins the night of the festival.

Go ahead and add 900 gp, money earned during the festival and gifts from your friends amongst the theatre crowd.

Elton:
The trip to Sandpoint has been a long one; if it wasn't the weather holding you up, it was a sick horse slowing the caravan down. Add in the number of religious pilgrims increasingly upset about missing the festival, and you are glad to finally see the lights of town as darkness falls in. Heading to the first inn you see, the Rusty Dragon, you step in and look about for someone to secure a room from. It takes a few minutes before someone spots you, and they immediately apologize for the delay, go off to prepare a room, and invite you to sit down in the common room while you wait. There isn't many folks here, but one occupant immediately catches your attention. A small copper dragon is cavorting in a corner, trying to get the human sitting there to smile.

Add 900 gp, money earned during the extended breaks of the trip from Kaer Maga.

Pimpernell:
You have had a rather eventful last few weeks. You had been saving up for the trip to Sandpoint all summer, and were blessed with an unusually easy trip to the town, and unexpectedly generous local clergy when you arrived, leaving your pockets a lot fuller than expected. Add onto that the money made while preparing for and aiding with the festival itself, and you're pockets are quite full. Only the goblin attack the night of the festival marred what was otherwise a beautiful day, but, it's only goblins, and no one that you've talked to seems overly worried about it being anything more than the usual annoyance, though Father Zantus, the local chief priest, who also happens to worship Desna, can't seem to relax about the loss of the body of the former chief priest.

You are having a quiet dinner and conversation, almost ready to head off to bed so that you could be off early tomorrow, when one of the other local clerics, a dwarf named Morstralla, comes in asking to speak with Father Zantus; she was one of those who helped repel the goblin raid, and the fact that she comes in bearing a frown does not encourage you that the conversation is going to end well, especially when the chief priest's face gets serious instantly.

Add 900 gp from the extra money you hadn't ended up needing to spend on the trip and during the festival, as well as money made from various fees and pay acquired since arriving at Sandpoint.

Ameiko is not present, and the rest of the staff seems quite subdued and distracted. When questioned, they simply say the mistress is feeling ill, and will likely be unable to be present for a few days, giving no further details to anyone, though they are willing to acknowledge that you probably know why she is ill.

"No, he's working. He wouldn't want us bothering him."

Female Human Bard

I <3 Dragons.

Rather thirsty from the exertion of dancing. Zella decides to take break and walks over towards the bar for a drink. Taking a sip of honey mead, she'll wander over towards the big Shoanti bouncer.

Speaking in Shoanti "Thought I'd come over and introduce myself. My name's Zelladanyia. I'm a singer, a dancer and even an occasional fortune teller. What I'm not, is a woman who lays with men for money. I thought it best to let each bouncer know that just in case any trouble starts up while I'm dancing. Some fellas don't like to take 'no' for an answer and while I can usually handle any trouble myself, it doesn't hurt to have a little help."

They <3 you too.

Krojun's eye go wide when Zella approaches and begins to speak in his native tongue.

Shoanti: "Many-talented, body, and beautiful", the big shoanti says with a booming laugh. "Is it a wonder if men have a hard time accepting your refusal?"

Krojun pauses a moment to measure the stunning dancer's reaction before continuing.

"Well Zelladanyia, I am Krojun Shundar-Quah. Among the Shoanti I am Krojun-Speaks-With-Thunder. The people here in Sandpoint mostly call me Krojun. It is an honor to meet you."

A halfling with short brown hair and a small scar over his eyebrow gets up from his chair and begins looking around the Rusty Dragon. Being careful to keep his hands behind his back, he glances toward the corner of the inn from time to time, obviously interested in something over there...

After a couple of minutes, he turns abruptly and hurries over the to the table, nodding at the occupants. "Greetings, may the luck of Chaldira keep you well!" he says in a cheery voice. With wide-eyed wonder, he looks at the dragon, and in a voice full of curiosity, he asks:

Draconic:
"Excuse me, I do not mean to interrupt your evening, but are you real?!"

Female Human Bard

Zella merely shrugs and smiles at Krojan's comment about men having a hard time accepting her refusal.

After he introduces himself, Zella will hold out her hand to shake. "It's rather nice to meet you as well Krojun. Perhaps after my next dance set we cant chat again? I'd be interested in hearing of your heroics during the goblins little raid."

Still having a job to do, Zella finished off her mug and heads back over to dance again for the patrons.

Pimpernell sits in an uncomfortable chair with Father Zantus swinging his legs 1/2 a foot off of the ground and whistling until a stern look reminds him of proper table manners. He picks at the humble meal prepared in the Temple and fidgets while the clergy discusses politics and mundane activities. His mind wanders to open fields and dirt roads...the night sky and the stars. How do they do this? And a priest of Starsong, the Lady of the open road, for goodness sake? He adjusts the white layman's robe he was provided. Oh man this thing is itchy.

As Morstalla enters, Finally a break in the monotony.

Damn you auto-correct! That was supposed to be 'bold' not 'body'.

Krojun takes the slender offered hand and shakes it gently.

"I will tell you everything you'd like to hear about my efforts to oppose the goblins attacking Sandpoint after. Go right ahead. I wouldn't keep a performer from her duty", he says with a slight bow and a wide grin.

It takes all of the big shoanti's will to stay vigilant during Zella's performance.

Female Human Bard

Hopefully that roll earns her some interest and coins. :)

"No, you're not." Rohan looks to the halfling. "My name's Rohan and this very real little guy is Copperscale. Who are you?"

"My apologies, I am Elton, of the Thistledown family. The branch in Kaer Maga, not the group out of Korvosa or Turtleback Ferry. Pleased to make your acquaintance."

He continues staring in wonder at the small dragon. "I've just never seen a dragon before. I thought I saw one, but it was just a shadow. But before that, the dragon was a man. That I knew. Sort of."

The halfling looks at the man, "And what do you mean by who is Chaldira? Chaldira Zuzaristan? The Calamitous Turn? She of The Three-Notched Sword?" The goddess of surviving dire circumstances and luck... for halflings... er... and luck for those deemed worthy of being lucky. If they're not halflings."

He pauses and wrings his hands for a moment, "She is friends with Desna!" he blurts out a bit too loudly, as if that should explain everything.

"It's alright, the question was just a little confusing. Good to meet you."

"Well, you see he may look like a dragon.." Rohan decides to be honest and tells him about Copper's true nature. It wasn't in him to withhold the truth.

"But if it helps, the glorious leader of where I'm from is an ancient Gold Dragon. And I'm related to him, so that's close right?"

"I still haven't heard of this Chaldira, but thank you anyway."

The Kitten:
Zelladanyia definitely has the attention of the gathered crowd, and it is likely that without the bouncers being around, she would have some problems leaving with her clothes on, but it's a well run brothel, and the crowd knows that risking the madam's wrath would be a bad idea if they want to ever return. She does, however, manage to make 3 gp from the attention.

Pimpernell:
The dwarven cleric hesitates a second when she sees you, but Father Zantus tells to report, and she briefly details the highlights. Without knowing a lot of the details, most of it doesn't make sense, but it is clear that the goblins are being gathered by greater forces led by some girl named Nualia, who was supposed to have died in the fire that burnt down the old church, but now as apparently become connected with Lamashtu, the mother of monsters. You also hear something about runelords and Thassalonia, but what they have to do with the current situation is even more unclear. The elder priest of Desna nods quietly, very obviously concerned, before turning to you, "I would ask that before you depart town in the morning, you seek out these heroes and see if they require your help. This is clearly a far greater matter than anything that we could have imagined, and we will need all the help we can get."

The Rusty Dragon:
A serving girl taps the halfling on the shoulder to let him know that his room is ready, but that he and Rohan are free to stay in the common room as long as he pleases as long as he cleans up after themselves to a reasonable degree.

Talon:
Your selling trip eventually leads you to Brodert Quint, a local scholar who specializes in Thassillion history. When he sees the ranseur, he immediately invites you in, and asks you to tell everything you know about what happened and how you acquired the ranseur.

Female Human Bard

VoW:
Forgot to ask about lodgings for Zella. She's been here long enough to have arranged for a room somewhere. Where would have been available? Just assume the Rusty Dragon to have been her first choice and she would have worked her way down from there to whatever she could find.

Zelladanyia:
The Rusty Dragon is fine. That being the case, this morning, you noticed before you left for the day that the staff was very agitated about something and that Ameiko was not around, which was highly unusual.

Krojun makes his way close to the stage as Zella's performance comes to an end in case one of the men enjoying the performance gets any bad ideas.

He offers the dancer a massive hand as she descends from the stage.

"If every performance is that stirring I believe my brothers and I are going to have our hands full."

L2 Cleric of Starsong AC 18/14/15, HP 22/22, Saves: 5/5/7, Perc 5, Init 5

At the mention of Lamashtu, Pimpernell frowns. The B+++$ Queen herself. He listens and then stands. If a follower of Lamashtu is involved, then a priest of Starsong should definitely travel with this group.

Pimpernell bows quickly to the clergy in the room. He pulls the white, borrowed priestly robes off and drops them on the floor revealing his bare halfling body garbed in only a loin cloth. He takes off jogging out of the room until he realizes he has been rude. He jogs back to the robe, picks it up, folds it, and lays it over the chair. With a blushed face, he bows again and then runs out.

It takes only a few minutes to don his traveling garb and his armor. He sets out for the Rusty Dragon.

Female Human Bard

"It's those stirring performances that earn me my money without having to lay on back. Any chance you could walk me on over to the Rusty Dragon when you have time? It's rather late out and I'd rather not walk over there by myself. Not that I'm afraid of a fight or anything. It's just that having a big fella like you walking beside would likely discourage anyone from even thinking of starting trouble."

Krojun laughs again, a deep rich sound from deep within his chest.

"My break begins within the hour. I would be happy to walk you to the Dragon. I believe I owe you a story."

Rohan will stay in the common room for a while. He was too high strung from the days events to sleep now. And besides, this halfling was apparently interested in Copper's existence. "So what brings you to Sandpoint?" He asks after getting a nudge from Copper.

Elton looks at the dragon through narrowed eyes. Pursing his lips, he things for a long minute before speaking, "Well, even if he isn't a dragon, he is a very handsome fellow. Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Master Copperscale."

Elton takes a seat the table facing the man, "Your homeland and heritage are very interesting, moreso than you know. See, we have dragon blood in our family too. Not gold though, brass. Those brass dragons can talk your ear off, and believe me, coming from a halfling, that's quite a feat!"

Elton begins speaking in a rapid staccato voice, looking around the entire time, but obviously aware of his conversation. "As for what I'm doing here... Well, I like history, the really old stuff, the kind that's hard to find in libraries. The city where I was raised, Kaer Maga, it was built by some empire thousands of years ago. I found a manuscript a few months ago indicating the lighthouse near here might be related to that same empire, so I came to take a look... and here I am. I'm really disappointed I missed the festival though - did you two go?!" The last is spoken with earnest regret - who wants to miss a party!

The conversation at the Rusty Dragon continues as others appear from other venues. At this point, only Talon, who is still out shopping somehow, Morstralla, who went to report to Father Zantus, and Magnhlidr, who is elsewhere helping the locals guards, are present. Most of the staff have gone to bed, but they left a few logs in the fireplace so there is still a steady light just in front of it.

Male Eidolon(Quadruped) (HP 10/10; AC:16, T:14, FF:13; Fort:+2 Ref:+5 Will:+0; Init+3; Perception +12) (Effects: None)

"I like this guy. He's obviously very smart and observant. We see eye to eye on the important things. Yea we went, despite someone's best efforts." Copper not so subtlely nods to Rohan who just rolls his eyes. "It was awesome, you should have seen it! There was food, games, food, and decorations everywhere. The only bummer was the goblins attacking. But we got them good! I was like rawr and they were like aah! Then Miss Ameiko got kidnapped and we got to rescue her like real heroes! Then we searched through the remains of some ancient empire. Oh, maybe it was built by the same empire that you were talking about! That would be so cool!" He excitedly exclaims before taking a break to quench his thirst.

"...and then we returned here to Sandpoint and reported what we had learned to the bounty hunter, Shalelu" Krojun says as he opens the door letting the beautiful varisian and himself into the Dragon.

Krojun laughs when he sees who is still occupying the Dragon's common room at the late hour.

"How fortunate. Most of them are here now!" the big shoanti says with a booming voice. "Let me introduce you."

"This is Rohan and his companion little Copperscale, Magnhildr the fiery swordmaiden, and Morstralla acolyte of the Gilded God", Krojun introduces with a nod towards each.

He steps back to fully take in the dancer's beauty one more time.

"Friends, this is Zelladanyia."
