Krojun-Speaks-With-Thunder |
The big man shakes his head and offers Rohan a half-smile. He quickly resumes scanning the air for a sign of the diminutive terrorist.
"Come on little one, speak up. I can be a patient man but my patience grows very thin with those that hurt my friends", he says with a glance towards the newly mended Mags.
Talon Eldercourt |
Talon looks to Rohan and Krojun "Do you think it can even understand us, is it intelligent, whatever it is?"
Talon racks his brain trying to figure out what this thing is. I don't have any training in any type of monster or lore knowledge.
The Voice of Wisdom |
Yes, it breaks invisibility periodically, and yes, you can attack it, but in order to simplify this scene and keep it from dragging out in combat rounds, I am going with the position that you are able to harass it and it is able to harass you, but neither side is able to do significant damage to the other, and it only seems to bother those who might have the ability and position to harm the pool. If both of the arcanists are down by the larger pool, it does nothing attackwise.
"This is my home, leave at once; I bother you as much as you bother me."
Magnhlidr Whitescale |
Mags gives a tired nod and a smile after Krojun uses the wand to close her wounds.
"Thanks. I don't suppose you have something to get the blood out of my mail?"
She stretches her newly mended arms and neck, but winces when she tries to stretch her leg.
When the thing finally speaks she whispers to the others,
"Didn't Tsuto's journal mention something about a 'quasit' and her freaks? I don't think it's a good idea to leave her here, at least not without finding a way to destroy that pool."
Rohan Drake |
"How long have you been here? We did not realize this was your home and we apologize. Why is the pool so important?" Rohan asks the quasit.
"Well, we can't seem to harm her and she can't seem to harm us. So we might as well figure out if she knows anything." He whispers back.
The Voice of Wisdom |
"Tsuto? You mean that foolish half elf that followed Lady Nualia around like a besotted lap dog? Worthless idiot barely fit for even a cheap minion in my opinion. As for your other questions, I have been here long enough to not have to deal with such meddlesome pests, and the pool is none of your business; servants of Lady Alaznist are the only ones who need to know, and you are clearly not her servants."
Krojun, you can attempt another history roll. You think that if you could drain all the energy out of the pool, you could at least disable it, as it appears to be little more than a storage vat, but how long it would stay disabled is beyond anything you can determine at this time.
Rohan Drake |
"Listen, my friend there is going to break your pool in half unless you tell us what we need to know." This creature was trying Rohan's patience.
Magnhlidr Whitescale |
"Nualia? You mean the idiot who follows that b#&~# queen of demons and calls herself a goddess?"
The way that last part came out, it sounds as if Mags had swallowed something foul before saying it.
Has a minute passed since Mags left rage?
EDIT: And if what you two said didn't send her into a flying rage, what Mags said probably did.
Magnhlidr Whitescale |
Ehhehe, sorry that last ooc comment was a little metagamey, and I just realized that no-one mentioned anything in the journal beyond what Krojun said. I apologize for that and I'll try to keep from meta-gaming in the future.
The Voice of Wisdom |
Everything everyone has said is well within the party's knowledge at this point. And at this point, you've probably been at the whole mutual harassment and occasional talking bit for a few minutes. The wrathful thoughts are starting to fade, though they are still strong enough to make things difficult for you.
There is no audio response and since she has stayed invisible for about a minute now, you have no idea what her response is.
Krojun-Speaks-With-Thunder |
Krojun nods, "Good. Maybe now we can figure this out."
The big shoanti climbs up to the pool again.
"Alaznist was a runelord of wrath - one of the damned leaders of Thassillon and that creature seemed to take a liking to seeing
Magnhlidr bleed. There may be some sort of connection between whatever powers this thing and the fury in Magnhlidr's north-born fury."
Krojun looks into the pool again.
"Magnhlidr, come up here. Let's see if it reacts to you."
Magnhlidr Whitescale |
"It's a little demon, at least that's what Stralla said. I'm an open follower of Desna and Lamashtu is a demon herself. I can't say I'm surprised."
Mags is still paler than usual, but she moves close to the pool and looks from it to Krojun as if to say, "well, now what?"
Talon Eldercourt |
Talon accompanies Krojun and draws his blades, ready for whatever might come out of the pool.
"I wonder if it is deep or if its a portal, do you think things just manifest there?"
The Voice of Wisdom |
Nothing seems to happen until you flick the drop of blood into the pool, at which point, it comes to life, and another one of the creatures appears, reeady to attack.
party init 1d20 ⇒ 16
monster init 1d20 ⇒ 9
Everyone go ahead and give me two rounds of attack rolls/combat actions. I'll splice them all together to determine what, if any, damage the party takes before you dismantle another one of these creatures.
Krojun-Speaks-With-Thunder |
Krojun is surprised at how quickly the pool reacts once Mags's blood touches the orange fluid. His whip is quickly in hand and he takes a step back. With one quick powerful movement, he tries to pull the creature down.
Trip: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
If it gets up from prone and survives the AoOs, Krojun will trip it again in the following round.
Trip: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Magnhlidr Whitescale |
"Another of these things?"
Attack 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Damage 1: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 2) + 4 = 11
Attack 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Damage 2: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 1) + 4 = 8
Mags sets her stance before bringing the bloodied greatsword around to try and cleave the things from it's shoulders. The blow is clumsy, but her next strike is much more accurate and rends the things flesh as her sword comes down.
Rohan Drake |
Round 1
Rohan brings his spear down on the creature
Arcane Strike: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
1d8 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 1 = 8
Round 2
Assuming it survives the first onslaught, Rohan strikes again.
Arcane Strike: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
1d8 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 1 = 12
Copperscale |
Round 1
Copper goes up and attempts to take a bite out of the foul creature.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Round 2
Copper rips another chunk of flesh out of it.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
The Voice of Wisdom |
I'm going to assume that someone healed Mags after she finished raging. You go through the process several more times. Grand total damage:
Mags is back at 1 hp after 1 clw and another hit cancel each other out
Krojun takes a total of 7 damage from a couple of claw attacks
The pool finally goes inert after going through the process 3 more times, and the room warms up slightly, though it is still a bit colder than you would normally expect. You hear a final shriek from the quasit, "You may think you've won, but you haven't even begun to understand what you face. Your pathetic village and this temple is but a small, unimportant cog in the greater things afoot." and with that you hear a flapping of wings exiting the room.
Krojun-Speaks-With-Thunder |
Yeah, Krojun would heal her up after each one.
CLW Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
CLW Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
CLW Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
CLW Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Mags should end up at 18/22 and Krojun is topped off.
Krojun looks back in the direction of the retreating quasit before beaming with pride at the group's handiwork.
"Good work. Should we explore the rest of this place?"
The Voice of Wisdom |
Both possible leads you have right now end in the same place. Another fight with sinspawn that stand almost no chance. Just mark off 5 charges of the wand and call everyone at full health.
You find yourself in what was clearly once a prison, with cells lining the perimeter. Upon entering, you fight 3 more of the sinspawn, each with a ranseur, hiding underneath a rickety wooden platform that overlooks the room and walkway that provides access to the statue room and a hallway going east.
Magnhlidr Whitescale |
Mags glares at what she imagines to be the thing's back. Her blood starting to pool on the floor made it clear that she was not up for another fight, until Krojun healed all of her wounds.
"Thanks. I may be tough but these things are not something I want to fight again."
She looks off to where Copper took off.
"Well, I think we need to follow our little friend before he gets too far ahead."
The Voice of Wisdom |
You shortly reach another room. This one contains several ancient looking torture devices. In one corner sits a spherical cage with spikes protruding inward from its iron bars. In another stands what appears to be a star-shaped wooden frame, its surface studded with hooks. And in the center of the room is a long table covered with leather straps and a number of cranks that seem designed to rotate and swivel. You are rather glad that they are all decayed and rusted at this point, as you don't think you would have cared to visit this room when these things were in their prime. There is a door to the east, a door to the south, and the hallway you entered through going west.
Talon Eldercourt |
To Krojun, "Thank you, coming from one such as yourself that is a true compliment. But I must confess, you have been an inspiration in battle." as he smiles warmly at the large man.
Talon searches the room carefully for anything of interest, being mindful that any of these devices might be a trap.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
