Male Half-orc Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 4 / Sorcerer 1/Dragon Disciple 3

Hurgah turns to see where Breach is pointing.

"The assassin wizard is who got cooked. Then he vanished from sight. Where is he?"

If Hurgah can move somewhere close to where Breach is pointing and still have a standard action left, he will come off delay.

Male Dwarf Barbarian (Breaker) 8

Dwarven:
How much of a cooldown, though?
Karek grumbles to Gandel as he moves to keep up with Xaven.

To the half-orc and halfling: Don'd be voolish. Where will you go? Now would be a good dime ver yer demonslaying blan. He adds to Xaven.

Male Dwarf Barbarian (Breaker) 8

The above sounds like a move action, so I still have a standard.

De assassin? Can anybody ged'im vrom'ere? Karek glances up the tube as he goes and takes his potion of See Invisibility out of his pack.

"Downstairs is where he went. At least, that's the last direction I heard the sound of 'im cookin'."

Correct.

This happens!

T'was very nice of Xerissa to bring such a present from Venture Captain Krenshar. It would appear Karek made a fine choice.

Just for clarity, though I think you're ahead of me on this, Karek still needs to drink it as a standard action next round.

Breach Shattershield aka Javell wrote:

I've got Breach delaying, but just for the record, Breach can still go if he'd like. That's all free action stuff right there.

Oh crap.

Male Dwarf Barbarian (Breaker) 8

So, downstairs would be the room that Gandel and I were salivating over? I guess we're not sure if he's flying or levitating or what.

Karek will once again ask if there is anything small-sized to throw at a range. That might include Gandel or Xaven.

Hurgah the Reaver wrote:

Technically, we haven't made it to where Hurgah goes on delay -- though it is excellent that you get these turns posted in advance as it helps prevent things from going even more slowly.

But to answer your question, I guess it depends on what you mean by close. Even with his faster move, Hurgah can't quite reach where Breach is pointing. He'd need a double move (he can't get a straight line for a charge). However, Hurgah could get within say 10 feet of where Breach is currently pointing with a move and still have his standard action.

Also, I should confirm from Javelle whether Breach is actually pointing--it has just been assumed. It is possible he is acting instead.

Karek Kogan wrote:

No, sorry.

Gandel and Karek were previously at the north tip of the large circular chamber, contemplating going up the stairs to a corridor headed further north (they saw a room beyond in the distance, not displayed on the current map). Sceptre (or rather Breach's sizzle sound) was headed down the stairs in the south corridor, headed into the large circular chamber itself. So it sounds as though Sceptre is much closer than you think he is. He appears to have been trying to waltz by pretty much the entire party.

Outside of the two halflings mentioned, I cannot think of anything else off-hand. Maybe Hrokon's coffin-lid-shaped tower shield, but it seems unlikely he would loan it.

Male Dwarf Barbarian (Breaker) 8

I don't have a (practical) ranged weapon handy. Who wants?

Male Half-orc Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 4 / Sorcerer 1/Dragon Disciple 3

Ok, I'm going to need a rough breakdown of where everyone are in relation to each other.

Sounds like we'll need an updated map then - I might need until the weekend - sorry guys!

Male Dwarf Cleric 8

Hal will gesture towards the coffin, "Anything in there that can help with Demons?" Hold my action.

Pact Stone GM wrote:

I more or less just need to know if there are any friendlies within 20-30 feet of the area where Breach noticed something. As far as I can see from the various posts, almost everyone are clumped together down around the tube. The only one I'm a bit uncertain about is Xerissa, and maybe Lydia and Donkor, but they seem to have tagged along with Breach.

So, the main question is if Hurgah can get a clear 30 foot long line of fire that includes the area where we think Sceptre is. And when I say line of fire, I mean it pretty literally.

Female Elf Druid 5 (desert)/Rogue 3 (spy)

If it helps, I'll just come off delay and get out of the way! I think I am still back there somewhere. But I don't see him right?

Well that solves Hurgah's fear of friendly fire.

But it's technically still Karek's turn, I think - is he done?

(Cause then it's that delightful Suekahn . . .)

Male Dwarf Barbarian (Breaker) 8

Karek is done, pending a map and "pointing" clarifications. Suekahn can go.

Taking Chances

The slaughterhouse in the mosaic-tiled room at the top of the shaft continues. Another wet gurgling noise betrays a life cut short. And then--

--it looks like one of Khymrasa’s soldiers has decided to make a break for it by leaping down the shaft. Unfortunately it is a long way down.

Hey, it’s possible he could be lucky. The Paizo die roller is typically pretty crummy to me whenever it comes to damage rolls.

Falling damage for 80 feet on to stone: 8d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 2, 3, 2, 4, 4) = 21

Well, he beat the average, but not by enough.

The shaft turns into a death trap, once again and another body rains down into the firefly room below. It lands only a foot or two from Moonpate, threatening to disrupt his delicate concentration as the wizard focusses on opening a portal to another world to bring forth a mighty ally.

That’s just flavor, no actual check by Moonpate is required. But the room is getting rather crowded.

The battle up top suddenly goes awfully quiet.

And then a soft echoing chortle can be heard. Somebody above is pretty pleased with himself.

A very patient Hurgah is up next, then Hal, then Moonpate.

If anyone prefers to wait, I'm forcasting an updated map this weekend.

Even as he shrinks down to normal size, Hurgah moves through the now fairly crowded chamber to the hallway leading to the stairs.

"We can't have that dungheap hurling spells at our backs while we fight that devil. Stand clear."

As soon as he is clear of any of of his allies, he stops and calls down towards the stairs:

"I promised you'd taste the fires of vengeance, assassin, and you're not done yet!

With that, Hurgah inhales deeply, then exhales. The hallway turns into a furnace as white-hot flames roar from Hurgahs mouth.

Breath weapon, 30 foot cone, DC 14 Reflex half: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 1) = 8

Male Dwarf Cleric 8

Hal will look at Xaven and Hroken expectantly as his question has yet to be answered. Continue holding his action.

Hurgah the Reaver wrote:

Xaven turns to Hrokon:

"And I thought your breath was bad."

Halstadt Morgrym wrote:

Sorry Dennis! I neglected to respond to this.

I need to clarify for you: there is no coffin.

What Hrokon has is a tower shield in the shape of a sarcophagus lid. (Or perhaps a coffin lid converted into a shield, who can say?)

So unless there is a hidden compartment, there's nothing inside.

You know what? I might even have one of those 'worth a thousand words thingies' . . . let me see.

Hurgah the Reaver wrote:

Well we've certainly established he neglected to cast resist energy fire today.

Reflex save versus DC 14 for half damage from Hurgah's breath weapon: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 (saves)

When the geyser of flames explode in the chamber of the great white rock, for the briefest of instants you can see the trace outline of a humanoid figure, writhing in the flames. The figure is in flight.

When the flames disappear all that is left is the darkness.

Hal, Moonpate and then Donkor are next. Then Sceptre.

Male Half-orc Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 4 / Sorcerer 1/Dragon Disciple 3

I wonder if Sceptre isn't beginning to regret shooting off that lightning bolt - or getting out of his bedroll this morning.

Male Dwarf Barbarian (Breaker) 8

Moon, I hope you're summoning something that can find an invisible foe, or that you can narrow down where he is somehow. We need Gandel to throw a Glitterdust, if he has any left(?). If we can't get the demon, we'll get the damned assassin.

Did Donkor see where Sceptre was to target him? If so...

Donkor retrieves his wand with a flourish, nearly dropping it in the process. You. Come here. He roars, pointing his wand where he last saw the assassin's outline. Command to Approach. Will Save DC 11 for Sceptre.

Karek Kogan wrote:

-

I see you are ahead of me as usual. With that spell, he needs to be able to see the target. He doesn't.

Too bad, would have been a cool move and I love it when a low-level wand saves the day.

(Donkor can try something different though, if he likes)

Hurgah the Reaver wrote:

. . . Now that you mention it, the bedroll was rather comfy.

Ever since I reminded Moonpate that for the sake of tactics, he doesn't need to choose his summoned monster until the following round, it has had the unintended effect of leaving me in suspense for days at a time.

Time to lay it on us though! What's coming?

Male Halfling Bard (Archivist) 6/Pathfinder Delver 2

Gandel comes off of delay and casts Glitterdust in the area where he believes Scepter to be located.

Male Dwarf Cleric 8

Sorry mis-understood the description on the lid.

Hal goes on delay but looks up the shaft to see if Suekhan is looking down.

On seeing Hurgah roar like dragon:

"Uh, did anybody else know he could do that?"

Meanwhile Xaven and Hrokon continue to talk (seemingly ignoring the incomprehensible dwarf trying to advise them):

“You’re not hearing me buddy," says Xaven. "It’s not that simple. I can’t just vamoose with you.”

“Why not?”

“If any of these jokers walks into a trap or gets beheaded by the fiend upstairs, I die too. Like it or not, I’m their new official babysitter.”

“What!?”

“I’m serious – I work for them free of charge. Got my employee badge and everything.”

The half-orc considers his comrades words and then concludes:“. . . But not me.”

“Right and they’re gonna try to use that. But don’t worry, I got me a plan.”

“Oh great.”

“It’s simple. If they kill you, I’ll commit suicide. Total deterrent.”

“Oh that’s a plan, alright.”

Suddenly Hurgah dashes off and lets loose with a cone of fire. When he does Xaven’s eyes widen in surprise and he adds:

“Hold it a second - -“ Xaven's voice drops off into a whisper once more.

Reading the spoiler below requires a DC 15 Perception check for anyone in the Firefly room. I.e. Not for Xerissa or Hurgah.

Spoiler:

“Whatever you do stay off that giant white disc. The last thing you want is to get joined in some kind of a pact with the wandrifler. I dunno what he’s done but he’s peed these guys off royally. He’s not gonna be with us much longer. “

“Then how are we gonna fight the fiend?”

“They got their own wizard, don’t they? I’ll think of something.”

Male Dwarf Cleric 8

Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

Of course I get a good roll here...

Hal comes off of delay.

He pulls himself right up to Xaven and Hroken. "You two damn fools whisper louder than a dwarven wedding party. On my honor no harm will come to you from us if you attempt to bring us no harm".

I sure wish I had access to an expanded summon list, but given what I have to work with, I will go with the awe inspiring augmented celestial dire bat Phatotzlikal - Fiend Hunter extraordinaire. I figure his blindsense ability will help in locating and finally destroying our nemesis, Sceptre. I will summon him as close to the last charred outline of that cad as possible, directing him to hunt. Sceptre definitely picked the wrong time to try and assassinate the Potentate and his friends.

Karek Kogan wrote:

Kenneth’s question of how many spells Gandel has is a good one. I looked into this. Since Trapspringer's last session of rest, he’s cast two level-2 spells:

1) a casting of summon monster earlier (the spider).

2) A casting of glitterdust earlier attempting to catch a vanished Suekahn.

Gandel has four 2nd-level slots available so he has two level-2 spells left. The range on that spell is awesome (er, Medium to be more accurate) and totally long enough to reach Sceptre.

Male Halfling Bard (Archivist) 6/Pathfinder Delver 2

I have been intentionally conservative with Gandel's and Hal's spell usage :-)

Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28

Breach rolls his eyes at the pathetic whisperers. "Morgrym is right. There's no sense in you two stooges whisperin'. We can hear everythin' you're sayin'. And even if we did kill your 'buddy', there's no way you kill yourself. Because we all know that you find yourself far too important for that," he says sarcastically.

Also, Pact, you forgot to put Lydia on the map. No one gets left behind. No one. (At least, not again. :p)

It's 10 PM. Do you know where your weasel is?

Ha!

She's the "MS" for Mithral Scarab - standing right behind the "B" for Breach.

(I should have made a deciphering key, or at least remembered she'll always be Lydia to her dwarven protector.)

[P.S. I still have to resolve Gandel's spell - coming soon.]

Why, yes, I have my weasel right...

What have you done!?

Gandel Trapspringer aka Dennis wrote:

More fireworks.

An explosion of golden shrapnel erupts near the center of the great chamber of the white rock. Silvery motes dance and shimmer in a cloudy morass of brightness.

Sceptre saves versus glitterdust DC 15: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 (fails!)

Sceptre is blinded. . .

Inside the brilliant sphere of scintillating light is a humanoid form--one unmistakably carrying a wand-rifle.

. . . and outlined quite clearly.

There's your man.

Halstadt Morgrym wrote:

To see all the way up the shaft Hal needs to be under it - 5 feet to the east.

I am happy to say he's there, if you'd like (and pretend we corrected the map).

Just let me know. Looking up is a free action.

Halstadt Morgrym wrote:

And his speech is a free action too. Meaning Hal can still do more if he wants to, or even go back on delay.

Male Dwarf Cleric 8

No, forgot where I was I am content to stay where I am. I do not wish to spend any more spells attacking Scepter. I will maintain my position next to Moonpate holding my axe ready to protect him if necessary. So essentially I am holding but looking out for danger which seems to be all around us in this place!

Lydia lass wrote:

Pact daddy wrote:

Nearly jumping out of his boots to attack the wandrifler, Breach remembers his responsibility and reprimands himself mentally for nearly screwing up again. But that doesn't stop him from, "There he is! Right there as plain as day!" he points directly at him, "Go get 'im, fellas!

I believe Donkor's choice of action is now legitimized?
