Game Master Something Wicked

Hearing I ask from the holy races,
From Heimdall's sons, both high and low;
Thou wilt, Valfather, that well I relate
Old tales I remember of men long ago.

Well try to have fun at least :)

Female Human Ranger (Trapper) 6 | HP 51/51 | AC 21 (Tch. 13, Ff. 18, PfE 23) | Fort +7, Ref +9, Will +6 | Init. +3, Perception +13 SM +3 | Active Conditions: Bless, Heroism, Protection from Evil

Signe picked our direction last time so someone else can choose our next destination. But she still wants to push the button :)

Makes me think of the Chemical Brother's song Galvanize

Galvanize! Push the Button.

Don't hold back!
If you think about it too much you might stumble, trip up,
Fall on your face
Don't hold back!
Don't you think it's time you get up, crunch time like a sit up,
The monkey pace
Don't hold back!
Put apprehension on the back burner, let it sit,
Don't even get it lit
Don't hold back!
Get involved with the jam, don't be a prick,
Hot chick, be a pig
Don't hold back!

The world... (they're holding back...) the time has come to...
The world... (you're holding back...) the time has come to...
The world... (it's holding back...) the time has come to...

To galvanize!

Come on, come on, come on!

(Ooooooooooooooooooh...)

(Ooooooooooooooooooh...)

World, the time has come to... push the button
World, the time has come to... push the button
World, the time has come to... push the button

World, my finger is on the button...
My finger is on the button...
My finger is on the button...

"Push the button"

(Oooooooooooooooooh...)

The time has come to...

(Oooooooooooooooooh...)

GALVANIZE!

@Sub: press it and find out!

@Signe: your "team player" philosophy is definitely appreciated. By all means, though, if you're the first person who happens to check in and you have time to post, pick a direction. It will speed things up (I hope).

So for clarity, does anyone mess with the mask, or do we leave it be?

If someone searches for traps first, Ramundr will push it into his bag using his spear.

Does cold iron hurt this demon?

[Loot] | [Roll20] | [Inspired Rage] | [Hero Points] | [Discord Chat]

A successful knowledge (planes) check can answer that question.

I’ll be on vacation from 3-2F until 3-5M and likely will not post during that time.

Male Human Skald 6 | HP 45/45 | AC 22 (Tch. 12, Ff. 19) | Fort +7, Ref +6, Will +5 | Init. +3, Perception +4

Enjoy your holiday!

I'm not sure I like or dislike the new site. The uniform colours are kind of a negative, but it seems to behave a bit more.

Enjoy your holiday.

Have fun!

Human Barbarian 6 | HP 72/72 | AC 17 (Tch. 13, Ff. 18) | Fort +13, Ref +7, Will +8 | Init. +1, Perception + 8 | Rage Rounds: 1/16 | +3 to resist spells | +1 to Fear Saves

When you say 'remaining PCs' does that include Otryggr?

same question. Also, I'm changing my action because I realized that I cant move AND ready an action.

I haven't played with barbarians much but I have to say these bonuses seem unreal:
Raging Charging Furious Focus Blessed Power Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
Damage: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (4, 1) + 10 = 15

Human Barbarian 6 | HP 72/72 | AC 17 (Tch. 13, Ff. 18) | Fort +13, Ref +7, Will +8 | Init. +1, Perception + 8 | Rage Rounds: 1/16 | +3 to resist spells | +1 to Fear Saves

I'm happy to break it down:

+2 charge
+1 bless
+2 BaB
+3 Str
+2 Rage Str
+1 MW greatsword

Total of +11 to hit

2d6 greatsword damage
+3 Str
+2 Rage Str
+2 Power Attack
+3 Holding 2H

Total of 2d6+10 damage

I wasn't doubting. Just amazed.

Immunity to Cold eh? I bet it wouldn't like some of our fire based scrolls.

Hey guys, my weekend was quite busy and today as well. I'll update either today or tomorrow as time allows!

[Loot] | [Roll20] | [Inspired Rage] | [Hero Points] | [Discord Chat]

Wow, Otryggr lucked out with those terrible attack rolls for the yeti. If it had hit with both claws, it would have also rended and you'd probably have had to use a hero point to avoid perma-death :/. Praise the dicebot!

[Loot] | [Roll20] | [Inspired Rage] | [Hero Points] | [Discord Chat]

So just to be clear, it sounds like we want to continue exploring the western door of this "basement"?

Human Barbarian 6 | HP 72/72 | AC 17 (Tch. 13, Ff. 18) | Fort +13, Ref +7, Will +8 | Init. +1, Perception + 8 | Rage Rounds: 1/16 | +3 to resist spells | +1 to Fear Saves

Yup.

I have to say that the Yeti pic you shared is quite good. Did that come from Frog God's Northland Saga Complete?

[Loot] | [Roll20] | [Inspired Rage] | [Hero Points] | [Discord Chat]

Unfortunately no. It was just a picture I found on the web.

It fit well with the feel of the images I've seen from the campaign.

[Loot] | [Roll20] | [Inspired Rage] | [Hero Points] | [Discord Chat]

Yea I thought so too! The AP art is all black and white, but there is some really nice art in there.

So, what happens next? Remember, anyone can make perception checks to notice hazards, not just Signe. Not trying to make us paranoid, just saying :).

Ragnar wrote:
Not quite sure how that works mechanically, but if the trap is a rope on the ground or a pressure plate, could we not simply avoid it? If not, please roll Ragnar's attack vs the triggering mechanism and the possible damage taken.

Well, that is a common sense approach but, unfortunately, pathfinder doesn't run on common sense. The ways to deal with a mechanical trap such as this are to disable it or to trigger it. "Being careful" isn't an option because then traps (and disable device) would become obsolete. This one seems to have an automatic and immediate reset, so triggering it doesn't overcome it. The description of the cord is simple flavoring of the mechanic. OOC, crossing the threshold will trigger it again.

Given that, do you still want to walk into it?

But then there's this proposed solution with the yeti's body. This is an original way to try to deal with the problem, and per the rule of cool I'll say it will have a chance of working. Let's say there's a 50% chance the blade can be embedded such that it becomes stuck and can be crossed safely. Thoughts?

Spells:
Level 1 - Bless, Divine Favour, Moment of Greatness, Obscuring Mist, Shield of Faith; Level 2 (DC 15) - Bull's Strength, Burst of Radiance, Ironskin, Protection from Evil (communal)
Warpriest of Frigg 6 | HP 44/44 | AC 29 (31 against evil) (Tch. 16, Ff. 26) | Fort +9/11, Ref +8/10, Will +11/13 | Init. +3, Perception + 8

50% sounds good.

Also, I am travelling for a conference next week, so my posting rate will be slower as my schedule is completely packed, and sandwiched between 11-hour flights.

If we stay and fight then might I suggest someone uses the two fire spells [burning hands and the sphere] The burning hands one should probably wait until they are packed in against us.

As far as positioning, if Ragnar does not use his longspear then he will not be able to attack from behind the line. Same for Signe. Not sure.there is a better spot to stand though..

[Loot] | [Roll20] | [Inspired Rage] | [Hero Points] | [Discord Chat]

I'll give Ragnar and Signe a chance to post an action before I advance the round, probably sometime this evening (EST).

I'd also like to take this opportunity to ask for some honest feedback. We've been playing this campaign for nearly three months, and I'm curious how everyone is finding it.

1. Are you having fun? Do you enjoy the themes and encounters in this game?

2. How is the balance between combat and roleplay? Is there too much of one? Are you getting the chance to flesh out your character the way you want?

3. Is there anything I could be doing to improve the game?

You can respond here or in PM. Again, honest feedback is appreciated. If you think something could use improvement, don't be shy!

Thanks!

1. I am having fun. I think this is a really cool theme. I like that the encounters are tough, and suspect that if we are to keep surviving them we will have to a)exercise caution, and b)work together more strategically. I like the challenge.

2. Combat takes a long time, but that is just PBP. Characters flesh themselves out. We are Olaf's sworn, so we do not yet have a lot of autonomy to choose a path that might really allow us off the railroad or the module. I am OK with that, for now.
Our adventures so far has not really given us an opportunity to feel the viking culture yet, as we've mostly been on the road/boat/iceberg. But I do not doubt that will come.
3. Has it been 3 months already? I'm not sure what can be done differently yet. I'll be sure to let you know when I think of something.

Can't run Roll20 on mobile - does it look like there is anything of interest past the cells? If not, Thyrnir will go with retreating as well.

Human Barbarian 6 | HP 72/72 | AC 17 (Tch. 13, Ff. 18) | Fort +13, Ref +7, Will +8 | Init. +1, Perception + 8 | Rage Rounds: 1/16 | +3 to resist spells | +1 to Fear Saves

Time for some honest feedback!

1. I'm having a blast. I think the group's great and the game is fun. We're almost caught up with where I played through last time, but that hasn't detracted from my enjoyment and we're exploring parts of the ice castle that I never visited last time. I think the game is moving along at a good clip, and the DM has just the right amount of aggressiveness when it comes to keeping things going. The encounters are fun, with a good mix between traps, monsters, and mobs.

2. I think there's been a good balance. We're in a dungeon crawl right now which will always be weird in PbP, in that we reduce rp as we start trying to speed our way through the series of rooms and encounters to finish things up. But that's fine - the quality players in the group make sure that even so we're all still IC and having fun. I've got a really good sense of everyone's character, and I think that speaks volumes to how we've had time to flesh them out.

3. Hmm. I don't think so? Continue moving things forward at the speed you're doing. If we run into rooms where there's nothing of real note, I'd encourage you to just narrate our going through it to save a few days worth of checking for traps and searching and finding nothing. But honestly this is my favorite PbP game right now, so as long as we all keep on keeping on, I'm set.

And oh, as to SubiculumHammer's point of our needing to exercise caution and work together more strategically... *grin* Apologies in advance. I know Otryggr can be a pain in that department, being impulsive, impatient, and with a hair trigger temper. But that's how I designed him, and I'm completely fine if he dies as a result of his impetuosity. I just hope it doesn't annoy anyone in the group.

Ramundr tries to work around Otryggr because the damage rolls :)

I am slammed at work for this week and next. I'll try to update tomorrow!

Male Human Skald 6 | HP 45/45 | AC 22 (Tch. 12, Ff. 19) | Fort +7, Ref +6, Will +5 | Init. +3, Perception +4

Bah! Really sorry, but I've been away for Monday unexpectedly. It's nothing serious, but I've not had the time to post yet. I'm sorry for that, and I'm ready to get back on track.

[Loot] | [Roll20] | [Inspired Rage] | [Hero Points] | [Discord Chat]

No don't worry, I've barely had time to read. I hope to get any update in tomorrow. It looks like we'll be retreating to the hall in hopes of using the trapped doors in our defense.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

GM just saved us a month of real life time. :)

Female Human Ranger (Trapper) 6 | HP 51/51 | AC 21 (Tch. 13, Ff. 18, PfE 23) | Fort +7, Ref +9, Will +6 | Init. +3, Perception +13 SM +3 | Active Conditions: Bless, Heroism, Protection from Evil

I'm enjoying myself. I have always enjoyed games run by Wicked so it's not really a surprise :) I wouldn't play if I wasn't enjoying it.

That being said, I feel like Signe hasn't been particularly useful in combat. So I'm happy for the role-playing.

[Loot] | [Roll20] | [Inspired Rage] | [Hero Points] | [Discord Chat]

Congratulations, you have now reached level 3! Please post your advancements here.

Human Barbarian 6 | HP 72/72 | AC 17 (Tch. 13, Ff. 18) | Fort +13, Ref +7, Will +8 | Init. +1, Perception + 8 | Rage Rounds: 1/16 | +3 to resist spells | +1 to Fear Saves

Feat: Cleave

Male Human Skald 6 | HP 45/45 | AC 22 (Tch. 12, Ff. 19) | Fort +7, Ref +6, Will +5 | Init. +3, Perception +4

I'm looking for a Rage Power to select to be active while I have Raging Song on. Any suggestions? I'd take Knockdown or Knockback, but those are somewhat boring. I considered also taking Reckless Abandon, but I noticed Otryggr already has it.

I'll leave that blank for the moment, and hopefully we'll manage to choose by the time I use the song.

Level Up:

BAB + 1
Ref + 1
Song of Marching (Ex)
Skills(5 + 2) Climb, Knowledge(Arcana, Religion), Perception, Spellcraft + Perform(Oratory), Linguistics.
HP + 7 (5 Class, 1 Con, 2 Favoured Class)
Feat: Weapon Focus(Spear)
Spells: 0th: Mending, 1st: Vanish. (I'll probably use that as a last resort, but this place being not what it seems might've had an effect on Ragnar.)

Female Human Ranger (Trapper) 6 | HP 51/51 | AC 21 (Tch. 13, Ff. 18, PfE 23) | Fort +7, Ref +9, Will +6 | Init. +3, Perception +13 SM +3 | Active Conditions: Bless, Heroism, Protection from Evil

Woot! Level 3 :)

+1 BAB
+1 Will
+8 HP
Endurance (bonus feat)
1st favored terrain = cold
Feat: Deadly Aim
Skills (7points): +1 to Climb, Disable Device, K.nature, Perception, Stealth, Survival, Swim
Background skills: +1 to Handle Animal and Profession, sailor

What about Intimidating glare?
Benefit: The barbarian can make an Intimidate check against one adjacent foe as a move action. If the barbarian successfully demoralizes her opponent, the foe is shaken for 1d4 rounds + 1 round for every 5 points by which the barbarian’s check exceeds the DC.

Can be a nice debuff.
