I would just say to consider your surroundings. You're currently with the party and the girls, all of whom are already familiar with you. No one's exhibited hostility to you. Inga's only ignored you. They would almost certainly have heard rumors of your abilities, if they haven't witnessed them. The jarl would also know, and yet tasked you to guard his daughters.
I think, if you find it appropriate, using a healing spell would not jeopardize your safety. But, as Ragnar suggested, you could also resort to mundane heal checks. If the latter, are we immediately heading back to the hall?

Þyrnir |

In that case, he'll heal Fastvi while trying to make it look like a mundane setting and splinting of the broken arm.

Þyrnir |

Skip Otryggr for the next round of posts. He's just circling the meadows, eyes outward looking for Skyr.
Ftfy. :D

GM Wicked |

You kids keep me young.
I see that over in gameplay I've written that "Inga" is wailing in pain. Obviously, that's a typo, and I mean that Fastvi is wailing in pain, but it's too late to edit the post.

Ramundr Æiþorn |

As part of my backstory, Ramundr served Jarl Anud Cursespear of the Vale, and as a kind of envoy/cultural exchange etc/ Ramundr now serves Jarl Olaf. I kind of assumed that Ramundr still ultimately serves Anud Cursespear.

Þyrnir |

GM, Þyrnir has known Runa since birth - is this the first time she's done something like this?

GM Wicked |

@Thyrnir: Yes. She's always been odd, and even issued a minor foretelling or two, but you've not witnessed her do anything this strange.
@Ramundr: that assumption is fine. Jarl Olaf hasn't asked you to disavow your prior loyalties. He knows why you're here.

Ótryggr Grímsson |

Riding as he is the perimeter, does Otryggr have any cause to act during this surprise round? Does he see or sense anything that would catch his attention? Otherwise he'll just keep on searching for skyr.

GM Wicked |

There is no spoiler. Otryggr received a PM.

Ramundr Æiþorn |

Is Thyrnir Þyrnir?
Is Ramundr aware of Ragnar's movement to the brush?
Are they standing in a clearing? Meaning if Ramundr leaves Inga on the ground to go fight, could someone sneak up and abduct Inga et al?
Who is next to Ramundr?
Sorry for all the questions.

GM Wicked |

Questions are good!
Yes, Thyrnir is Þyrnir when I'm too lazy to insert the special character.
Ramunder is almost certainly aware of Ragnar's movement (I assume you're nearby).
Yes you're in a clearing/meadow. It's rather open.
Ramundr is near Thyrnir, Signe, Fastvi, Runa, and Inga. Otryggr is in the woods, and Ragnar is riding in that direction.

GM Wicked |

Actually your initiative beats Thyrnir's, and I just assumed your post was your action. You can go ahead and do something else, or delay until after Thyrnir. That's fine too.

GM Wicked |

That...remains to be seen.... :)

Þyrnir |

It was good knowing you all. *salutes*

GM Wicked |

Indeed, an adventure complete! Er, wait...
So many checks in this latest post! Where the same skill is used for multiple things, please designate each roll for a particular task, whether it's to locate tracks or recall knowledge.

GM Wicked |

That's correct, the check would repeat every round, so using the re-rolls during that encounter wouldn't have been very useful. Better to have them in your pocket for the trials ahead.

Þyrnir |

Will the Profession skills ever be used in this campaign? At the moment it kinda feels like they're being useless and I could have spent those skillpoints better.

GM Wicked |

Profession (sailor) will definitely be used. Profession (farmer) is for flavor more than anything, but I want everyone to have it (that's why it was a bonus). The other professions? Maybe not so much. I've only read about half of the AP, so can't say confidently, but if you want to reassign some your skill ranks, feel free.

GM Wicked |

I've been listening to Dead Can Dance and you're right, their music is a pretty good fit!
You all should select the route you think sounds the most fun. They all present unique challenges. I noticed that Otryggr's previous Northlands campaign took the Barrow Lands, if that makes a difference to you.

Þyrnir |

Do not want the Barrow Lands. Either of the other two is fine.

Ótryggr Grímsson |

Otryggr is going to want to take the most direct route and danger be damned, but OOC I'm fine with taking a new route so as to play something different. I'll do some grousing IC and then will happily go wherever.

GM Wicked |

Here's what I reckon from our posts so far:
Thyrnir: Not the Barrow Lands
Ragnar: Barrow Lands
Otryggr: Any
Ramundr: Barrow Lands? (follow the tracks)
Signe: Forest
Looking for at least 3/5 set on one route and we'll take it.

Ramundr Æiþorn |

I may have missed something. I've been swamped with work.
Do we have an idea of where they are going? Otherwise, wouldn't the party have to follow tracks, if we can see them?
That said, Ramundr gors with Forest, on Signe's advice.

Þyrnir |

Forest, then.

GM Wicked |

Ramundr, yes the appropriate knowledge checks were made to "realize" where the kidnappers are headed: The Tor, about 20 miles southwest (see map linked up top). With this knowledge, the party is aware they have multiple routes to choose from, all of which will lead to their ultimate destination. Each route contains unique encounters and challenges.
OOC, it's the author's attempt to insert a bit of player agency in a module that is otherwise a bit railroady :).

GM Wicked |

Signe, the survival check is required regardless.

GM Wicked |

Hey guys, my normal work schedule has resumed after an extended break, so my frequency will decrease and there may be days when I don't get a chance to post (today will be one of them).

Ragnar Hedefødt |

I have to confess, I initially thought I'd have a lot of issues with Ragnar. It's hard for me in general to play religious characters, and with my somewhat lackluster knowledge of Nordic mythology, I was initially rather sceptical about the whole deal.
Now, though, I'm getting quite a good feel for the character and his quirks, and I didn't expect that making songs and stories would be so fun! Kudos to the GM and other players, too, for painting such a good picture of the environments and people in them!

Ramundr Æiþorn |

Just a FYI, I have an absolute hell week or two coming up with work...I'm months behind on deadlines at work, and getting close to like firing level late. Soo....my posts will be a bit minimal for a little a week or two, but I'll stay up to date.

GM Wicked |

Ramundr: Nah. If a check like that is called for, I'll either request it or roll it for you. And by all means, focus on work! I'm happy to bot you for as long as is needed.
Ragnar: Absolutely! You're doing an awesome job with him. Indeed, I feel like I'm being outclassed at every turn by the effort you all are putting into your posts. Of course, that's not a bad position for a GM to be in :).

GM Wicked |

Roll20 has been updated. At last, a combat map! Please make sure you can see and move your token.
