Sorala was described as a linguist and historian, so I designed her as an academic. She is a bit out of her depth in the setting, but she's a smart lass. I think she can cobble together what she needs to make craft rolls without the -2. i.e. I probably should have given her the kit, since without it she's pretty gimped. With Istiel "shopping" for her, she should be in good shape for materials.

Gozran 10, Sorala's Journal

Late entry - there was a bear hunt today! Led by the dour Keleshite, Hassan, the Chelish convict, and Istiel, a group of guardsmen and hunters managed to bring down a ferocious black bear, despite, at first, the seeming will of the gods to snag every arrow in branches and underbrush before they reached the creature. One guardsman was seriously mauled and recuperates in Sandra Thayer's tent, and another was hurt in the ensuing melee, but the convict, who has some seeming link to the gods, brought the mauled guardsman back from the brink. 9 days here and still the only death is Garrack's.

Mood was improved at dinner tonight. The bear was a bit tough - all muscle and no fat after the winter. I wonder how the winters are here?

Gozran 11, Sorala's Journal

Today started off cool enough, but quickly warmed to be uncomfortable in the sun. The pace of work seemed to slow a little. I opened my scribing station and was soon approached by a young man, Aldous, who needed some help creating some pitch for binding together the boards of a shack. We took some tree sap and boiled it to thicken, and added some crushed arrowroot - I think it will do for now.

Then, a short time later, a woman with a cold approached, having spoken to Aldous. I implored her to speak with Ingwe or the convict, but in the meantime made her a heady brew from cedar bark and dandelions simmered in springwater, similar to the recipes in my family going back generations. She seemed comforted as she went on her way.

Nothing much has happened today. Ingwe and the convict cared for and healed the guardsmen injured in the bear fight today. Hassan patrolled with his guards nervously, and the dwarves did whatever it is that dwarves do - hammering away and hawing on and on quite contentedly it seems.

The foragers and hunters didn't have much luck - it seems as if the wildlife know to avoid Newspring by now, and the plants don't regrow fast enough for our use. It seems we need to strike out further than we have, into this unknown wilderness - a frightening proposition to be sure.

The salvagers, according to their descriptions before they left, should be well on their way to the survivors' beach by now. I hope they are doing alright on the open water - the sun can be quite brutal without any shade.

That evening he borrows some tools from Horn'Tos and works on finishing his stone Warhammer. He uses the stone hammer head he carved out the afternoon before and a stout stick whittled down to the proper shape and some leather strips cut from his apron.

okay that is a failing roll. The warhammer is 90% done with the previous two days work but I guess assembly is giving him some problems.
Gaross struggles with getting the stone hammer head to fit solidly on the wooden haft. He actuall manages to break the haft. Frustrated he goes to Horn'Tos for help.

Istiel decides, on a whim, to change up her usual routine today- most likely with disastrous consequences to Hassan's guard schedule. She spends the day time guarding foragers and patrolling, and then hunts in the twilight hours of the evening.

Does she mention it to Hassan at all? How is this different to her usual routine? Are we working off the assumption that Istiel usually has guard duty sometime in the evening and she simply skipped out on it without talking to anyone first?

She usually hunts during the day and has a guard post during the night- but yes, she just goes off to do her own thing. It's mostly for fluff and to say where she is at what time. If Nerk starts wanting the guard rotation schedules I'll know he's gone mad or he's about to kill us all.

It's easy enough to aid the foraging groups. Someone is making a roll so you can aid them. The unfortunate part is that it only adds a +2 so in the end your just able to feed yourself. Still better than nothing though :)
