Hey everyone! Thanks for letting me join! Looking forward to preventing all your deaths from cunningly devised mechanical killing devices. I do have one favor to ask. In my zeal for making the most efficient trap finder and disabler, I kinda suck at combat. Please don't let me get eaten by a pit fiend, and I won't let you get eaten by a pit trap.

As you might already know, I originally submitted a character for this campaign, and even though I didn't make it in initially, I was intrigued enough by the module and the players that I have been reading along from the beginning. I am hoping I can blend quickly with the group, though I have a sneaky suspicion my characters distaste for combat might clash with someone like sir alric... Should be fun.

If you have any questions for me, fire away!

As far as getting me in to where you are, I have a couple of simple ideas. In one of these nearby rooms the party finds me, encased in glue or spider webs or something, Han solo style. My character is opportunistic and smart enough to realize we can work together to finish the task and ensure each other's survival.

Or, I just show up late... My contact who directed me here gave me the wrong location. I come up behind you as you are working your way through this puzzle. Just don't shoot first and ask questions later :)

I just realized as well, we're really not that far inside the tomb... If you literally shouted, "hello?" down the open tunnel entrance we excavated... We could probably hear you easily.

We're like 50 feet inside the tomb and down one turn of the hall! :)

I like that idea Ibid... seems the simplest and easiest. We don't need to get hung up on convoluted details. Azgar has a sudden bout of homesickness, and runs back to the circus, on his way out, he passes Balaxxius, who got the invitation to explore from the Society, but was given the wrong directions, and therefore showed up a day late. Seeing the front door already open, Balaxxius simply follows the group down the hallway, which isn't really all that far, and finds them trying to convince the stubborn knight to get out of the room of death. :)

Hi all, apologies for the general slowdown, and that recent huge period of lag, on my end. Life has kinda whacked me in the gonads the last couple of weeks. Nothing serious (this time), just a lot of unexpected real life things piling up.

I'm curious to ask, though, given the general slow down (and the lack of queries this last time round), whether people are still invested and wanting to continue this. I'm more than happy to keep going--and I'm really going to try to pick the pace up--but as we've been playing I've realized the several ways in which this adventure isn't really suited to PbP ideally, and I want to make sure I'm not dragging people back into something they're not enthused about.

Been a bit pre-occupied with some other things myself so haven't checked what was going on and due to my patient nature I adapt to the speed of the PbP's I'm in. I check my PbP's by how they show up on my focused view of the paizo forums. So no matter how long something has paused, if it pops back up I usually reply :)
So I'm here for when we continue.

About the current situation in game. I thought it would be an extended rest. If not, it might just be best to retreat to the tunnel, treat those that need to be treated and come back.

Likewise, I've had my hands full. But I'd really like to see this adventure through at some point in my pen and paper career having come to the hobby rather late.

We could probably make a few conscious changes regarding pacing. An effort on the players part to spend less time planning and more time acting. Given a days wait perhaps, we can assume everybody consents to whatever plan is proposed. I'd rather take a few risks if it means a healthier pace for the game.

That said I'm not concerned at the posting rate at present. Like Quadravos I'm happy to adapt to how often I'm needed.

I am on the boards every day anyways as I am in several other PbPs. I use my campaign tab to keep track, so I generally see whenever there is a post. It would be nice for things to move along faster, but I get my PbP 'fix' from the other games I play, so from my perspective it isn't critical. Essentially, I am on the boards enough that I am here when I need to be.

Real life always trumps games. If you aren't able to run it as a GM because of things you have going on, don't run yourself ragged on our account, we will get over it. If you are able to run it, I think the fact that the players have stuck around despite the very low posting rate says enough that we are interested to see it through.

I like the idea of taking the action and second method; if no one objects, I'll start following that. Do we have any seconds for Balaxxius's suggestion of just staying in the room while the disease is treated and potential threats tested?

Also, if threats are going to be tested...please make sure you're in the spot you want to be in on the map... >:)

The group I play most of my PbP with here has a general rule that we use, called the "Rule of X". X is the number of people who agree on a decision needed for the GM to just move the story along.

We typically need this because the GM will often post 3-7 times per day, depending on the posting frequency of the rest of the group. We have done entire PFS scenarios in under 2 weeks... Its a little nuts, but its fun.

The reason I bring that up is essentially what you are talking about is the Rule of 2. (I am in favor of this as well) Only 2 people need to agree on a course of action to take it. Now, that should also come with some GM discretion, if we end up in a situation were a few people disagree, it might be best to wait it out a bit and let us have our discussion. Take that on a case by case basis.

I am going to brag on my other GM a little bit, so if you want to see some examples of how a PbP GM can force things along without being pushy, or infringing on his players, check out GM Damo's games. We really have a great group, and while we tend to post like mad sometimes, it all really flows well. I think you will find some good examples of when it is ok to push, and when to wait.

So if it doesn't take a full night's rest to cure the lich dust effects - I vote heal/cure first, then Balaxxius will take a chance at disarming that altar trap... or whatever it is. Why do I have a sneaky suspicion that simply climbing over the wall is going to trigger something?

I apologize for the silence over the past month profusely. I was engaged in an extremely long workshop process that left me drained and exhausted, and now that I'm back on the boards I see that despite my attempt to forewarn all of my games that it would disrupt my posting, I somehow missed this one. This is the part I feel worst about--I intended to give you warning, I swear! :(

Hi again. Since it's been several days and I've only heard from two of you, I'm a little hesitant to put out a call for a new wizard (which I agree is probably the first step).

Alaric, Ibid., are you still with us? If so, and everyone's enthusiastic, great. But if I don't hear from people in a couple of days, I'm inclined to gently let this game go to rest. I've had fun with everyone, but 3 players is a lot to replace mid-stream, and to be perfectly frank the further we get into this the more I realize that this module doesn't translate very well to Play-by-Post.

Again, if people just missed my post and everyone wants to keep playing, that's fine by me! But responses seem...tepid.

I'm also starting up a solo game for a friend who's interested in the game. Does anyone have any prior experience with such things, particularly appropriate encounter levels for a 1st level solo PC and what parts of the rules I should be showcasing? If anybody wants to weigh in with their two-cents that would be spectacular.

I think solo players work best with some help. Him playing a class with an animal companion might work best. I might recommend 1/2 or 1/4 CR encounters and try to avoid overloading him with enemies. Actions per round will be his enemy. Anything staggered should be ok unless it's immune to his attacks.
