Fabes DM |

Thanks for that; it's 'unique' in that no other member of the party would try that. :D
The icthyian abominations gape soundlessly at the barbarian, and their eyes look dull and insensate but possess a cold malice. Those seeing them are reminded of the horrible things from the deepest ocean depths overlaid on the form of a man.

Mandrake the Mad |

We DO add 1/2 our level to all d20 rolls, correct? If Init is not included in that, just subtract 4 from each of the rolls above
Manny gapes at the fish-men with a slack-jawed look very similar to their own. He then slaps his hand over his eyes and pulls it down his face slowly.
"BArbarians." He mutters. "Always thinkin' with their biceps!"
He then grins as he takes his staff in a two handed grip and levels it at the nearest fish-face. The tip of the staff begins to glow as the wizard focuses his power.
"Fish-fry anyone?"

Grafire Serpenthelm |

All freindlies within 10 squares get a +2 to Init
Muhaha, very nice Seram.
Init rolls x 10 fishmen (1d20+7+2=14, 1d20+7+2=26, 1d20+7+2=29, 1d20+7+2=22, 1d20+7+2=13, 1d20+7+2=28, 1d20+7+2=26, 1d20+7+2=17, 1d20+7+2=24, 1d20+7+2=16)

ROUND 1
There are no grid references but you can get by with "1 square south" etc
Block 1
It
Fishmen Slayers
Seram
Manny
Block 2
Akahale
Grafire
Rowan
Rowan - I interpreted your first roll as 1+5 = 6. Manny - your Init is +6 before the addition of Grafire's Warlord bonus. I rolled for you for this fight. Please add 9 rolls to your profile. As you can see I've separated the fight into blocks as pioneered by Pat, and utilised by Rosey. So It is up.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are within 2 squares of a fishman at the beginning of your turn, you take a -2 penalty to attack rolls (thanks to their Vile Stench aura) until the start of your next turn. This is a poison effect. At the moment that means everybody except Rowan is affected.

It |

With unexpected speed, It moves to interpose Itself between Mandrake and the nearest creature (2 squares NE). It then attempts to use Its shield to push the creature back down the stairs whence it evidently came.
Tide of Iron vs. 4 (1d20 14=20, 1d8 10=13) That was before the -2 note went up; almost certainly a miss at 18. If it hits, 13hp and creature is pushed back one and It shifts into its space.

Fabes DM |

A miss indeed.
The fish-man dodges It's rush and squeezes past him into the room, with a horrible silence it proceeds to stab It quite nastily with its rusty rapier.
Fish-Man 4. Shift 1 square SW. 'It' takes 9 damage and 2 poison damage.
The fish-man in front of Seram glares at him balefully and dashes into the room, thrusts at the indomitable barbarian backed up by its comrade, who also takes a stab.
FM3 shifts 1 square NE. 10 damage and 2 poison damage to Seram Zal from Fish-man 3's attack. FM2 shifts 1 square North. Seram also takes 8 damage and 2 poison damage from Fish-man 2's attack
Another foul beast flops horribly into the chamber and stabs Akahale.
FM 1 shifts 1 square East. 8 damage and 2 poison damage to Akahale.
Things look bad for the intrepid investigators as they are assailed on all sides by foul fish beasts.
Seram is up

Seram Zal |

"This is great", Seram looks down at his wounds. "It's been too long since someone's been able to cut me. I can finally cut loose!"
Pressing Strike, shift 2 east (behind FM3), 1d20+14=28 vs. AC; Damage 2d4+8, push FM3 1 square west.
"Come on!"

It |

The fish-man dodges It's rush and squeezes past him into the room, with a horrible silence it proceeds to stab It quite nastily with its rusty rapier.
Fish-Man 4. Shift 1 square SW. 'It' takes 9 damage and 2 poison damage.
Fortunately, It is well-protected against such things.
Is the 2 meant to be ongoing? Or regular damage with the poison keyword?
Damn. I meant to mark him. I've never played a Fighter before.
Fabes:

Fabes DM |

Can you not shift on a corner? In our home game, we ruled that you can. If that's against RAW, then from now on we can play that way. I've not seen a reference to it, but your knowledge is greater than mine. As long as we're all on the same page with it, so to speak. The poison damage is not ongoing. Their swords are covered in venom and goo, so they always inflict an additional 2 points of poison damage.
Grinning with glee, Seram deftly slices at the creature and it stumbles backwards. He has turned the tables on it!
Mandrake the Less than Usually Sane to go

It |

Can you not shift on a corner? In our home game, we ruled that you can. If that's against RAW, then from now on we can play that way.
Moving diagonally works the same as other movement, except you can’t cross the corner of a wall or another obstacle that fills the corner between the square you’re in and the square you want to move to.
No big deal -- the first fight is always a shakedown cruise. Actually, there's an epic feat that allows you to do it.

Mandrake the Mad |

Gagging on the fish-man's stench, Mandrake releases his staff with one hand to grab his nose.
"Ack! Gag! EWwww! Really now, You can't wait till your alone to do that? That's just rude! I mean c'mon! You stink! Go away, Shoo, scram, beatit,... GIT!"
Waving his staff one-handed as a very ineffective fan, Manny attempts to fend off the fish man, or at least the odor. On the last word the mage jabs at the scaly monstrosity with the end of the staff instead, and with a peal of thunder a rippling wave of force erupts from the end of the staff to batter at the Aberration.
Mandrake's 'Spectral Ram' spell: (vs Fort) (1d20 11=17, 2d10 7=17)
Not sure about the new rules, do I need to roll a skill check to cast defensively like 3.5? Forgot to figure in the -2 due to stench, so to hit was a total of 15 VS Fort. If the spell hits, Dmg + push the critter back 3 squares and knocked prone

Akahale Gilbrid |

Manny, just so you know, using a ranged power against an adjacent enemy provokes an OA. Akahale and Manny have similar problems with this combat. We both need to get back far enough to actually have range. One square away will do. You can move using a shift (which won't provoke an OA, but if you move more than your shift allotment, it will. Of the party casters, Rowan is best placed right now.

Akahale Gilbrid |

Looking grimly at the advancing fishfoes, Akahale shifts diagonally North of F1.. "Abomination," he hisses at the brute, as he reaches upwards and swings himself onto the stairs.
Using move action to do acrobatic Errol Flynny type move onto the stairs, landing probably behind Rowan
Acrobatics check (DC20) to leap effortlessly up on the stairs: (1d20 6=23)
Once safely out of range, he extracts his rod and aims a blast of dark power at the monstrosity.
Phew!. OK. That was shift (minor), move (acrobatic thingy) and will take the OA, minor to draw rod and standard to try and blast it, using AP for the standard ... I think that's right. Seems likely to be a miss mind you.

Grafire Serpenthelm |

Rowan Darkwinter |

OK, thx guys. I guess it would help if i actually READ the 'combat' chapter, wouldn't it? ;P Although if I had known, there is room for me to shift 1 square north.
Should be able to shift 1 square north so to speak and by the way those maps are great!!
Rowan calls upon his faith drawing forth his bastard sword he levels it at the abomination in front of them and states.
"Bahamut sends his greetings, do be sure this means your end!" Rowan intones as he unleashes his lance of faith
(Doing this now in case I'm offline when my turn comes up, been a little ill of late so can't promise when I can next post so take care!)
Rolled a 15+9 for 24 I believe -2 from this creature for a total of 22 versus its Reflex doing 1d8+5 radiant damage rolled an 8 for 13pts of damage if it hits and everyone watching gains +2 to attack this same foe so here's hoping!

Fabes DM |

Akahale - shift is a move action but you're fine as you have used the right number of actions. Manny - I have shifted you N 1 square as you would have done that had you realised what you now know. We are all still learning. IMPORTANT NOTE - I'll rule that the curved corners of the room count as full squares.
The spellcasters of the party perform a tactical retreat, or in Akahale's case a crazy acrobatic stunt! As the young dragonborn leaps to grab the banister and flip over, a fishman nicks his ankle.
Akahale - 8 damage and 2 poison damage.
The fishmen shrug off the spell Manny lets off and casually block Grafire's attack. Seram hits home. Akahale is obviously somewhat shaken by the leap and misses his target.
8 damage to FM3 from Seram.
Rowan calls upon his god to aid him, but the lance of faith called forth is dodged narrowly by the horror he aimed at.

It is up.

It |

Its right arm levers backwards then shoots out like a piston, hammer extended, into the fish-man in front of It with a horrible squelch.
Crushing blow (with flank and bad breath) on 4 (1d20 14=32, 2d8 16=22)
Standing in place and marking #4. I'll roll the opp attack that I might get if #4 shifts, moves, or attacks anyone else.

Fabes DM |

It's mighty blow staggers the fish-man, but with horrible resilience the thing keeps on going.
From the other side of the room, one of the monsters heads to the warforged with terrible purpose and barges into It. The creature bounces off the metal man with a squelch.
Emboldened, it's recently pummelled comrade attempts to do the same thing. It too meets a solid wall of warrior.
FM2 move two squares NE. Bull Rush on It. Failed. FM4 bull rush on It. Failed.
The beast that Akahale recently missed, heads back into the room it emerged from and can no longer be seen by the party as it goes round the corner.
FM1 moves into room 2
The now isolated fishman facing Seram slashes at the barbarian with its foul blade. He blocks the fishy foe's slash with his falchion and retaliates in his usual fashion only to be blocked in turn.
FM3 to one square East. Attack on Seram misses. Seram's attack misses.
Manny to go!

Mandrake the Mad |

Manny laughs out loud as the first creature attempts to rush the man of metal.
"HA! That's quality workmanship there! Not as easy as it looks, is it?!" He chortles. Then furrows his brow and grows angry as the second also tries.
"HEY! Don't you guys ever learn? Give me a break, do you have any idea how hard it is to buff dents out of armored plate?!? Not to mention it's gonna take me a week to get the smell off of him!!" He growls. With a commanding motion, he holds up his left hand, which fills with a glowing sphere of what looks like shimmering, solidified water. Leaving it hanging in mid-air, he takes a two-handed grip on his staff and glares at the aberration directly below him.
"Batter-up fish-face!" He cries joyfully, and swings his staff, sending the shimmering sphere flying towards the creature. As it nears the monstrosity it explodes, sending shards of light scattering across it and the creature next to it, but somehow missing IT and Grafire.
unlike some of my powers, this allows the secondary attacks to be directed only at the enemies. Most of my powers would have swallowed up IT and Grafire! The att is vs Ref, I'm guessing the first missed, but the second guy got hit. (I hope!)

Rowan Darkwinter |

Just in case I'm not present I'll post my turn now
Rowan draws a breath in disgust at his foe's apparent good luck.
"Bahamut bring forth your blessing upon those who serve you during this dark and ungodly time of night let your majesty restore the light and fortune to the righteous!" Rowan prays.
Bless utility power used acts as a close burst of 20 all allies in that range gain +1 to their attack rolls until the end of the encounter and then Rowan spends an action point
Stepping forward so he's alongside It with Manny behind him Rowan calls upon his soldier training and swings his sword "Astro d'crio" at the nearest fishman...
Rolled a 14+14 for his skill with his sword for 28-2 for their vile stench reduces this to 26 but gains +1 since the bless spell also effects Rowan for a total of 27 which if it hits does 1d10+8 damage and rolled a 5 for 13pts of damage and no I'm not sure my spanish is accurate.

Akahale Gilbrid |

With a disgusted curl of his lip, Akahale drops a dark curse on the head of Fishthing 2, then he raises his rod high above his head and intones something in a language nobody present wishes to understand.
Dark energy curls up from the floor enveloping Fishthing 4, sucking life from the abomination into each coiling tendril.
"The gifts of the dark greet you foul one"
Deathboon (v Ref) v F4 - necrotic. If that bloodies it, Akahale gets an additional 1d8 damage to chuck on his next attack: (1d20 11=27, 2d8 7=18). Also, additional curse damage (1d8=8). If that hits, it's a total of 26 damage, 18 of it necrotic, 8 just ordinary. Made the roll on the -2 penalty..
He backs further up the stairs to try and avoid the overwhelming stench.

Fabes DM |

Manny and Rowan... which Fishmen are you actually attacking? I know 3 and 4 are there but please specify which ones are your targets.
Akahale heads down the stairs instead and blasts one of It's attackers with dark energy. The fishman reels and coughs up bright red blood in gouts... still in horrible silence. It fights on with horrible resolve.
Explained to Rosey that the staircase blocked her attack, so have moved her 1 square NE. FM4 is bloodied.

Grafire Serpenthelm |

Grafire attacks Fish4 with Viper's Strike:Effect: If target shifts before the start of my next turn, it provokes an opportunity attack from the ally of my choice.[IT]

MAP to follow later. It is up. FM4 is bloodied.
The adventurers start to bring pressure to bear on the fish-men and their attacks hit home. Manny's force shards strike his second target as the first dodges, Grafire takes advantage of an opening backed up by Rowan's mighty swing. Could this be the turning-point in their fortunes?
Manny, Rowan, Grafire, and Akahale all laid the smack down.

Fabes DM |

It |

It brings Its craghammer from left to right across its field, damaging both fish-creatures in front of It.
Cleave on F4 to F2 (1d20 14=28, 1d8 10=13) 5 damage to F2 on a hit.
Mark still on F4

Akahale Gilbrid |

The fishfoe's missed attack enables Akahale to step into a black void and reappear at the other end of the room. Which is what he does.
Shadowslip. Encounter power. Allows him to teleport up to 5 squares. Triggered by a missed attack on him. He reappears 2 squares south and one square west - which is, embarrassingly, right back where he started.

Fabes DM |

It bludgeons one of the monsters in the side of the head and it falls to the ground, dead, with a horrible thud. The warforged's blow clips the other beast and it recoils in pain.
FM4 is dead.
That fish-man then tries to shove It again, to no avail. The creature backs away warily. The fish-man fighting Seram decides to make a break for it and dodges back from the barbarian and runs out of the open door, and down the stairs!
Failed bull-rush from FM2. Shift 1 square South. FM3 shift 1 square West, and then takes a second move action to run.
Another beast emerges right in front of Akahale (is it the same one that ran away before? Hard to tell!) and slashes at him.
FM1 move to the square West of Akahale and attack. 8 damage to Akahale and 2 poison damage.
Round 3 post-fish moves >>>>MAP<<<<
Seram up.

Mandrake the Mad |

Batter up!
Mandrake looks at the fish-man occupied by IT and Grafire, then looks past the stairs at the one attacking the smaller dragonborn. Grasping his staff like a spear and holding it at waist level, he murmurs,...
"Alright, let's show this prehistoric b!@#$ how we do things in MY town!"
The wizard stalks around the stairway until he is only a few feet from the aberration.
"Hey! You! Slime-for-brains! Can I see your hunting license? We have a strict limit on Dragonborn hunting around here!" Manny taunts as the end of his staff begins to glow incandescent with focused energy.
"Like shooting fish in a barrel,..." He smirks. And a blast of white energy flies from the end of his staff towards the creature,...
Moved north around the top of the staircase. I counted 3 squares. (2 side and 1 diagonal) Left 1 square between me and the fish. Magic Missile on Fish-face #1.
