Orithos, the Thoughtful |

Orithos' reaction to the situation can be typed after the result of Hadran's attack has been explained. He wasn't prepared, and as such, will be going after both of you guys.

Hadran, The Fallen |

I would also like to use Sudden Block on the creatures first attack if I can. Will make AC 17 for the attack and I get a free attack after.
Attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17
Damage: 2d6 + 17 + 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 17 + (1, 4) = 30
Well that may be a waste as I don't thik that will hit :)

GM Rednal |
Hadran's swing is a phenomenal blow, crashing down hard and fast to strike the monstrous Troglodyte - but it's not quite enough to kill it, and Tulok bellows in a combination of rage and pain before lashing out with all of his natural weapons.
Or so he wanted, anyway, as divine power welled up to try and block his red-hot teeth.
Attack Roll 1 (Bite): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 for Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 + Fire Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Attack Roll 2 (Bite): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 for Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 + Fire Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Its vicious first blow was indeed blocked - though the counterstrike merely bounced off of its hide, and Tulok promptly continued by lashing out with both of his blazing claws.
Attack Roll (Claw 1): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18 for Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 + Fire Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Attack Roll (Claw 2): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 for Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 + Fire Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Hadran, The Fallen |

Sudden block pays off I would have been down to like 1hp :) Get it Orithos ;)

The battle raged fully and not only did Orithos feel useless for he held no weapon, the sickness within the room was wracking his body with waves of nausea. Still, he knew he had to do something or else Hadran might be slain.
Forcing himself to stand, Orithos dug into the energy within himself, and began speaking in flame tongue. [i]Let you be cleansed by fire![/ooc]
Orithos uses a swift action to activate his Judgement of Immolation.
Orithos uses Inspired Spell.
Orithos moves to the far side of Hadran and casts Burning Hands towards the Trog.
Burning Hands: 3d4 ⇒ (2, 1, 4) = 7

Hadran, The Fallen |

Orithos you sure, you see the thing is spitting fire from it mouth. Good chance it doesn't care about your fire. GM made it pretty obvious.

Hadran, The Fallen |

Ah, didn't know what that did :)
You are a formidable opponent, but your time has ended.
Hadran takes the blows from the beast in stride. He changes his feat realizing he was not in a defensive position. He swings his blade to his hip with the blade extended behind himself. He takes a step forward and swings the blade in a upsward position springing from his feat, cutting the great beast from belly to shoulder. He spins in the air and lands facing his enemy again with his blade held high in the air dripping with blood.
Attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31
Damage: 2d6 + 17 + 2d6 ⇒ (6, 1) + 17 + (3, 4) = 31
Looking to the other Trogs.
In Draconic: You follow this. This is power to you. You need not live this way. The humans you have are not your enemy. I am not your enemy either unless you choose to stand against me.

GM Rednal |
Hah! Nice. Also, Sleeping Trogs 6/10.
Tulok's body crashes into the ground, although he's not - quite - dead just yet. The flames from before gave him the smallest surge of vitality... and the stench from the other Troglodytes grows noticeably stronger due to their fear. Unfortunately for them, there's really nowhere to run, however much they'd like to. Being high up in a tower, with only one set of stairs going down, is rather inconvenient for retreats... and it's clear that none of the creatures imagined that the larger one would be dropped so easily. Finally, the injured one simply drops to the floor and cowers - and his companion follows suit. It's very clear to them that they cannot win - for all their time here, Tulok has been the embodiment of pure strength, and it seems they're now too afraid to even speak for fear of drawing more attention.
You've each gained 800 XP.

Orithos, the Thoughtful |

"I guess in this situation your sword was better than my flame," Orithos said while chuckling. "Since you are the only one who can speak with them, and my magic seems to falter with this," Orithos stops to analyze the larger troglodyte before him," man-beast, I'm not sure what assistance I can provide, but in the mean time, I will stand behind you and try to look menacing."

Hadran, The Fallen |

No worries my friend. You did well. That beast was a strong one. Do you have any healing ability remaining. I can heal myself but my power has grown weak from the battle. We need to find the captives. I will ask the Trogs.
Looking to the two cowering.
In Draconic: So you respect power. So that makes me your chief now. Stand up. Wake your friends and take me to the captives. Do this and you will live. Cross me and joing the big one there.

GM Rednal |
The two conscious Troglodytes - one badly wounded - looked at each other for a few moments. The healthy one bent down further a moment later. <"F-Forgive us, mighty one, but our ch-chief is still upstairs..."> In other words, Tulok wasn't the leader of their group - merely a powerful member of it, and anyone who wanted dominion over these beasts would probably have to settle things with their previous leader... one way or another.

Hadran, The Fallen |

In Draconic: Your chief is he as strong as Tulok? Will he talk or attack us? Can you take us to him?
Translating for Orithos as always :)

Orithos, the Thoughtful |

Nodding in comprehension, Orithos began casting healing upon Hadran.
Orithos converts Protection from Evil to Cure Light Wounds.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

GM Rednal |
"<S-stronger. Much stronger. Tulok would have taken over otherwise.>" the Troglodyte whimpered. <"Ch-Chief Tasskar is further u-up the stairs. H-he will probably try to kill you."> The creature - like his companion, who was rousing the others and encouraging them not to do anything stupid - seemed extremely reluctant to move towards the stairs and go face the chief. Young beasts like them might support the rule of a leader, but they didn't quite seem fanatical enough to want to die for a cause...

Hadran, The Fallen |

Well Orithos what should we do here. They are holding some people. Probably from the village, so I guess they did have a right to be scared of this place. I may be able to take the chief, but it will take all I have and I'm still hurt now. Though going up to talk probably won't work. If we rest we can come back prepared but once they learn what happened here they may kill of the captives or use them as leverage. Real rock and hard place here. I'm all for kicking in the door and seeing what this guy is made of if you can get me healed up.

Orithos, the Thoughtful |

"I have yet to find a proper weapon to use, and additionally, I'm not sure what spells I might use to assist you. It seems the fire within me was absorbed by that previous spellcaster, and if their chieftain is similar in power, none of my spells would stand a chance."
Pondering for a moment, Orithos looked back to Hadran and concluded with, "those villagers are in danger. We must save them or else victims will parish. I am able to supply supportive magic to aid you in battle, but since I am lacking a proper weapon, I will not be able to join you in melee. However, that does not mean my spells won't be of assistance."
Orithos converts Shield of Faith.
Orithos casts Cure Light Wounds.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Hadran, The Fallen |

Well Orithos I can't rest knowing those people may be in danger. I have a plan we could try that involves trickery, but has a lot of variables. They seem to respect power. I will take the head of the big one with us and challenge the chief. This should make the rest of them fall in line if we win. It has been nice traveling with you Orithos. Lets go see the chief.
Hadran goes to the large Trog and cuts off the head. He then looks to the other four.
In Draconis:I am Hadran slayer of Tulok. I am going to challenge your chief. Will you stand with us?

Orithos, the Thoughtful |

Figuring now was a better time than ever, Orithos gathered up the javelins that he'd dropped below, as well as any that he could find in the room with Hadran. From there, he salvaged a strap of leather from Tulok's clothing, and fashioned a back holster for all of the javelins.
"I'm as ready as I'll ever be. Ah, wait, one more thing."
Orithos examines Tulok's body, and then casts Detect Magic over it.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

GM Rednal |
There's a general aura of magic over Tulok's body, slowly fading away - it seems whatever gave him such resistance to fire was no natural power, but rather the result of something else at work. He doesn't have much on him, but you do find a ring with two keys on it, one large and one small. Both keys seem to be made out of iron and the smaller one actually looks quite complex.
Meanwhile, one of the other Troglodytes - apparently a bit braver than the rest - did speak up. <"We obey whoever is strongest, but you must challenge the chief yourself."> he said - surprisingly firm on the issue despite the circumstances. It simply wasn't their way to cooperate when overthrowing a leader - among other things, if the attempt failed, they'd all be punished right alongside the attacker.

Hadran, The Fallen |

Very well, I will challenge. Well Orithos no time like the present. Lets go. I don't want to carry this head any longer then I have too.
We head to where they said the chief is.

Orithos, the Thoughtful |

Orithos pockets the keys, and then states, "Whatever granted this creature its defense against my fire was not an item or spell it had used upon itself. I believe another source must have given it those powers. Be weary when we take on the leader. He might be more formidable than he first seems."
Orithos will proceed with Hadran while making sure none of the troggs are following them in ambush.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

GM Rednal |
None of the young troglodytes try anything - your earlier display was more than enough to make them cower in submission, and they do seem smart enough (if only barely) to not push their luck. Their directions take you to the final level of the tower, up the stairs once more.
The four wings of the tower are completely open on this level, forming one great, cross-shaped chamber with arched ceilings. The decayed remnants of a carpet run from the doorways at the end of each wing, meeting in the center where you emerge. A large, throne-like chair stands in the middle of the eastern wing next to a big chest - and standing on the eastern side of the hall is a tall, powerfully-built Troglodyte with a gleaming, well-made scimitar in one hand. A crocodile is standing next to him, skin gleaming like bronze and clinking slightly as it shifts around.
Initiative (Enemy): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Initiative (Hadran): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Initiative (Orithos): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
He did indeed seem to be expecting you - and a few arcane words come out of his mouth as he points his hand. Moments later, a swarm of spiders simply appears in the air around both of you, and their mandibles quickly begin chewing on your flesh!
Swarm Attack (Hadran): 1d6 ⇒ 1 +Poison (Fort DC 11, failure causes 1d2 Strength damage once a round for two rounds, and one DC 11 Constitution check throws it off), +Distraction
Swarm Attack (Orithos): 1d6 ⇒ 2 +Poison, +Distraction
Meanwhile, the Crocodile takes up a position in front of the chief of the Troglodytes, ready to intercept any attacks that might be coming his way.

Hadran, The Fallen |

Orithos, the Thoughtful |

Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 Poison
Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 Distraction
I'm not sure if I made it or not. Additionally, how far are we away from the leader?
In the case that Orithos made his distraction save, he shall do the following.
Barely hearing Hadran through the fog of arachnids, Orithos was able to make a short step (5 ft.) out, and then immediately focused casting upon Hadran's weapon.
Orithos uses Inspired Spell and casts Magic Weapon on Hadran's Sword.

GM Rednal |
Unless you literally step into another part of it, five feet is enough to get clear of the swarm - it's only ten feet on a side. You're 20 feet from the Troglodyte leader.
Sensing that no prey remains within their reach, the spiders chitter slightly - Targeting: 1d2 ⇒ 2 - and swarm towards Orithos, leaving Hadran in the clear. The Troglodyte, on the other hand, looks like he's stopped concentrating on that spell - and as his pet crocodile rears, he pats in on the head, sending a surge of magic into its body.
Swarm Damage (Orithos): 1d6 ⇒ 5 +Poison, +Distraction (DC 11)

Hadran, The Fallen |

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
In Draconic: You waste magic on your beast. Let me be your focus
Hadran charges up to the Croc. Will use acrobatics incase it has reach.
Acrobatics: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Hadran tumbles in not as graceful as he would like. I need to put some ranks in that :)
But comes up at the ready and brings his massive blade crashing down onto the croc.
Attack Destined Strike: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (19) + 17 = 36

Orithos, the Thoughtful |

fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Rushing to Hadran's aid (10 feet in his direction so that he's 5 feet away from Hadran), and batting aside spiders from every inch of his skin in the attempt, Orithos found a moment and chanted one more spell, pointing a finger at the chieftain's weapon.
Orithos uses his last power to Inspire Cast a spell into Burning Disarm, targeting the trog's scimitar. DC: 13 normally; DC 14 if you'll allow me to spend a standard action to indirectly chastise the leader since he was the one who cast the swarm after me.
Burning Disarm Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6

GM Rednal |
There's a loud clang as Hadran's weapon slams into the metal-clad crocodile - and though a heavy hit is made, causing quite a lot of damage to the creature, it isn't quite enough to bring it down. Orithos' spell flies at the Troglodyte leader a moment later... and he looks down almost curiously as the metal glows red-hot. <"Is that all?"> he inquires in Draconic, seeming entirely unaffected by the heat.
The crocodile slams towards Hadran a moment after the spell is targeted towards its master, using brute force as the solution to its problems.
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 for Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Unfortunately for it, its head is still ringing - literally - from the force of Hadran's earlier blow, and he's easily able to withstand the strike and force the creature back. Its master seems surprisingly content to wait for now, watching to see the outcome of the fight between his pet and Hadran.

Hadran, The Fallen |

Orithos we need to finish this quick before I run out of juice. Step up and threaten it with me. Die beast.
Hadran gathers his strength and tightens his grip on his blade. He steps to the side and spins to position himelf closer to the chief before slashing the beast across its back.
5' step to the side of the beast.
Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18 Crappy dice now.
Damage: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (1, 1) + 17 = 19

Orithos, the Thoughtful |

Knowledge (Religion): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Grabbing one of the javelins from his bundle, Orithos rushed around and to the side of the trog's pet, and swung with an overhead chop. This was done not so much in the effort of actually slaying the creature, but assisting Hadran, since Orithos found his martial capabilities not quite up to par.
"We will purge you!" Orithos roared.
Swift action, Judgement of Justice
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

GM Rednal |
The overhead chop from Orithos comes nowhere close to striking the creature - and Hadran's blow fails as well, bouncing off of the creature's metal hide without damage. As the crocodile swipes at Hadran, mystical power gathers...
Attack Roll (1): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Attack Roll (2): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
And its bite goes wide. Hadran's counterattack, on the other hand, slams into the creature... and it crumbles to the floor. With a shout of rage, the leader of the Troglodytes darts forward, his companion definitely dying (albiet not quite dead yet), and swings his heavy scimitar at Hadran.
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 for Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Perhaps due to his haste, it goes wide... but a wave of fright rolls over you a moment later, seeking to paralyze you into inaction.
Both of you, make a DC 14 Will Save. If you fail, you are affected as if by the Fear spell.

Hadran, The Fallen |

Will Save: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
I see I finally have your attention. Let this be finished.
Hadran continues his dance as his blood boils fuling his rage. He lifts his sword from the bleeding beast and whirls it overhead flinging the blood toward the chief. As his feat reach the proper setting he delivers a huge blow to the chief.
Attack Destined Strike: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34
Damage: 2d6 + 17 ⇒ (5, 6) + 17 = 28

Orithos, the Thoughtful |

Did the trog pick his weapon back up? Just making sure on the text on that.
Will Save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Dismissing the spell as a horse would a fly, Orithos paced a few steps and around the chieftain so as to avoid hitting Hadran with a throw.
Perception to even notice the markings: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
With a battle cry at his lips, Orithos launched the javelin at the trog's back, hoping to finish him, or at least perform a pincer.
Swift Action -> Smite Evil
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Damage Roll: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Hahahaha...I feel useful.

GM Rednal |
He never dropped his weapon.
Hadran's weapon slammed into the creature, creating huge tears in its body - and it slipped five steps backward even as, right before your eyes, its wounds began to heal. The spider swarm seemed to have dispersed, but that hasn't thrown him off... and just when he's about to swing his weapon again, the Troglodyte leader simply vanishes in a clap of thunder, reappearing on the far side of the tower... fifty feet away, and with the central stairs blocking a direct line to his position. <"I see, no wonder you beat Tulok. But I'm not as weak as he was!"> the Troglodyte roared in Draconic.

Hadran, The Fallen |

Draconic:Your strength compared to Tulok matters not now. What matters is you are weaker than me. Hadran Arch Angel of Valor and Glory.
Hadran moves 40' toward the chief. As he moves he pulls one of the javelins and lets it fly toward the chief.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Damage: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
The javelin flies wide of the chief but embeds itself deep in the stone.

will use sudden block if he comes and attacks.
Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25

Orithos, the Thoughtful |

Sorry, had some work I needed to attend to.
Grabbing another javelin, Orithos roared, "By my blazing heart, your essence shall burn!"
Swift Action, change Judgement to Destruction
Ranged Attack Roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Moving a few feet to the side of Hadran (30 foot movement, but ten feet diagonally back from him), Orithos let the javelin fly, arcing toward the monstrosity that he so greatly wished to end.

GM Rednal |
Hadran's javelin flies wide, though Orithos' strikes... and sinks into the creature's flesh before it's ripped out and discarded, the Troglodyte's flesh already starting to heal. <"Call yourself whatever you want."> the beast said, gesturing with one hand. A pitch-black circle appeared in the air around it, about ten feet out from its body, and a cruel smile crossed the creature's mouth. <"You're quite defensive for a warrior claiming to love valor and glory, though. I'm... not impressed."> It said, addressing Hadran... though its eyes did flicker towards Orithos for just a moment, clearly not forgetting the other's presence.

Hadran, The Fallen |

Draconic:You speak of my defense when your the one running away. Face me beast.
Hadran charges the chief blade dragging along the ground sparking along the granite. He leaps into the air bringing the blade high above his head. With a sudden strike the blade comes crashing down on the chief.
Attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24

Orithos, the Thoughtful |

All of the damage from the smite evil bypasses DR. I doubled smite evil with my judgement of destruction. Just making sure that my actions weren't misconstrued.
Frustration started to get to him, as Orithos grabbed another spear, and let it fly.
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
And the javelin completely shatters against the the back wall.

GM Rednal |
They were not misconstrued.
The javelin didn't do much, but Hadran's blade comes in at the creature as he moves - and the circle around the creature fails to keep the warrior back. The Troglodyte hits the floor a moment later, slumping face-down onto the cool tiles of the tower. With that done, you do have a moment to breathe and look around the place - and note several keys on the Troglodyte's belt.

Hadran, The Fallen |

With rage and dance stopped Hadran takes a deep breath slumping over leaning on his blade. A moment later he lifts the sword and lobs off the head of the beast. He looks to Orithos.
That one was close I'm exhausted. He seems to have a bunch of keys on his belt. If you want to take a look around I am going to rest a bit.
Hadran leans against the wall and slides down tot he ground. He sits slumped over breathing heavily and sipping some water.

Orithos, the Thoughtful |

As Orithos approached the body of the now deceased trog leader, he noticed not only the keys attached the the ragged belt, but the scimitar as well. "After I check his body, we'd better head back to the village. You look exhausted," Orithos said with a measure of worry. "I'm not sure if we could finish anything else in these halls with our state of health."
Taking a moment to calm himself down, the fiery one begin tracing glyphs in the air, and applied an ounce of will to the spell. Instantly, the body of the trog was enveloped by a cone of purple mist as if the air itself was searching for something.
Orithos cast Detect Magic on the trog's body as well as the scimitar.

GM Rednal |
A faint aura rises from the cloak the Troglodyte is wearing - but before you can reach out to take it, the creature's eyes open wide and he leaps to his feet with his scimitar in hand, bellowing in rage!

Initiative (Hadran): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Initiative (Orithos): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Though both of you are quick on your feet, the Troglodyte does manage to let loose a wave of Fear before you can react, powering it with all the raw fury his soul contains.
Will Save (Orithos): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 Unless changed to 14 or better, you are inflicted as if by the Fear spell.

Hadran, The Fallen |

So I didn't cut its head off then? I meant that to be a coup de grace. I assume we all stood in the surprise round.
Hadran's fatigued hands tighten around the pommel of his blade. He stares at the Trog with hatred in his eyes.
Draconic: This time you will be put down for good.
Hadran Calls on his last bit of mythic power to fill his blade with arcane strike with bane. He spins in place starting his battle dance again before the blade slices deep into the creature.
Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
Damage: 2d6 + 13 + 2d6 ⇒ (3, 5) + 13 + (3, 5) = 29
Attack Confirmation: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Damage: 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (2, 4) + 13 = 19
As the Trog falls again, Hadran tiredly places his foot on the beast head as he cleaves through it's neck. He kicks the head away from the body.
Orithos, gather your composure and come burn this thing before it grows a new head or something.
With this Hadran sits back down still breathing heavily. He picks back up his water skin sipping it again.
