im still working on the timeline from the last battle to 200 years later, but i thought id put something down for this starting discussion page.
The Children of Light, from 0 After Tarmon Gai'don (ATG) to 201 ATG. A summary.
The Children of Light suffered massive casualties during the Last battle, fighting the Sharans and shadowspawn. When the battle was finished, there existed only 300 full Children.
Retreating to Mayene after the last battle, the children were voicing the idea of disbanding, due to the victory of the Last Battle.
Galad, being Lord Commander, silenced the vote, asking for time to recover. He desired to be part of the discussion whole, and not from a hospital bed.
Galad spent two months in the bed, fever wracking his body from an unknown source (especially since he received Aes Sedai healing). During this fevered time, he had an epiphany about the future of the Children.
When he finally broke free of the fever, he wrote down the new mission and ideology of the Children.
the key points were:
1) to seek out shadowspawn and destroy them.
2) to guard the Dark One's prison of Shayol Ghul.
3) to seek out the remaining darkfriends loyal to the Dark One, and bring said darkfriends over to local justice.
when galad brought forth his new vision for the Children, many resisted at the third provision, declaring local justice inadequate to convict a darkfriend. Galad pointed out the last 300 years of Childrens existence, how the nations saw them as troublesome to the point of terrorists upon the citizens. To reform and build relations, old and new, the Children must change, and have faith with local justice.
200 Children left the organization that day, proclaiming that they were the true children and would bring light to all, no matter what.
those 200 soon dissolved into warring bands of mercenaries.
The last 100, galad was able to garrison within the small nation of Mayene, due to his relationship with Berelain.
1 year after his recovery and rebuild of the Children, he and Berelain wed.
The 100, knowing it was fool hardy, rode north to begin their self-appointed duty of prison guards and shadow hunters, and accepting that these tasks were more important than finding darkfriends.

But responsibility's so boring! Especially when you're the youngest child, and your older brother's going to inherit most of the responsibility, anyway.
Oh, by the way, I created an older brother to both of us named for our famous ancestor who supported the Lord Dragon, Dobraine. He gets to be High Seat - I get to drink and play cards :).
I like the backstory for the Children. Very nice.

Great, I'll adjust my background accordingly :-)

I get stuck in Golarion because of how intricate it is. I'd say WoT fills that bill. Though I have to admit I'll be doing some refreshing over the next few days to get back up to speed. And using wiki. Like a lot.
Yes, lots and lots of wiki refreshing... of course I may have to pull a couple of the books off of the shelf just for the fun of it.
I'm also excited to learn what else has happened in the last two-hundred years :-)
@ RIZZENMAGNUS, could you open the gameplay thread, so we can dot and delete? That way the game shows up on our queue...
Elathras Narcinal |
Awesome, great beginning.
So the question is: Where are we starting? And, do you care how we got there? Happy to be a traveling guard, sell sword or mercenary.
Or do you just want to tell us what tavern to be sitting in, looking for something interesting to do...
Storyteller Shadow |
Ugh, was hoping to get to this but fell asleep, too tired to post anything worth it, tomorrow is a light day kicking around the house with my daughter, will update latest tomorrow night.
Storyteller Shadow |
Sorry, big day tomorrow and I need to get more sleep so my first post will sadly be tommorrow :-(

i posted that you all are apart of a caravan from Tar Valon. you can either have travelled from Tar Valon, or have joined up as it made its way across the land. it's up to you.
This adventure starts at the Dark One's Thorn inn.

Sorry about the late post, I normally am off Sunday and Monday and ended up working.
Also, I apologize if Elathras seems too simplistic, or too familiar; he will change and grow as we go. I really like Matt, and his perspective on 'Tar Valon.' So I'm channeling him a little, at least until I develop Elathras' personality more.
Two 'book keeping' questions, Do we need to list an 'allignment' I would say Elathras is Chaotic Good. but sinse he's from Shienar he may actually be neutral good.
Also, in the recruitment thread you said we would be useing 'background skills' can we add two from the 'traditional list' of Background skills or do they need to come from the WOT background list?
Bormanes Taborwin |
Bormanes's character is drawing a little bit off Mat, as well, although he doesn't have the same issue with channeling that Mat and Elathras do. I think we all draw something from the characters in the books.
RIZZENMAGNUS |
elthras: 1) dont worry about alignment. not a hard nor fast rule i concern myself with. Just remember, youre in a group, you answer for your own actions, and if the group decides youre not acting properly for the group moral/ethical basis, then dont be surprised that you become a pin-cushion for bladed instruments.
2) what two are you thinking?
Jair Serkerova |
Im picturing at least a somewhat friendly comraderie between Jair, Elthras and Weyland if for no other reason than well them being martial orientated.
I think for the most part Jair wouldnt have tried too hard to ingratiate himself with Bormanes, though he wouldnt have avoided the young 'nobleman'
Obviously those associated with the power he would not ...avoid so much as try not to disturb, important folk after all use the power, lastly while he would very much be intruiged with Tiana i can honestly say she probably intimidates the heck out of him... even after 200 years im sure the reputation of even womenfolk Aiel being death walking on two legs would procede them.
At least that is how im playing him at the start :)

2) what two are you thinking?
If were talking about the traditional 'background traits' I would go with something that would have to do with either Shienar or taverns in general. Helping at the family tavern. he would have spent time working in the stable, so 'handle animal' and then possibly slight of hand, for playing cards.
Elathras Narcinal |
Ahhh. Ok. Ummm...ill sit down and make an official wot background skills list
yeah, I didn't know if we would use the one from PF, or a mix of the 'background skills' from the different ethnic groups. When you mentioned them in recruitment, I put it on the back burner. I'm happy without them if it's easier, but if I can add a little fluff I will. It will help me keep the personality focused. If slight of hand for cards is to cheesy, how about perform: card tricks? or even juggling or an instrument? Heck, he could cook :-)

I will adjust the skills, Also, I'm going to a family reunion for the next three days, my posting will be spotty and I will be posting at irregular times. Please 'bot' me as necessary.

You have linguistics on both lists. Also, are the skills that are class skills for everyone in pathfinder still class skills for everyone in WoT?
Also, skills are done. Still have a little work to do. Sorry for the slowness.
Lucius Mar'Niell |
Sorry everyone for the delay. Been consumed by a project for my blacksmith shop. Made the side draft hood that sucks the smoke out of the shop. So, im happy
I am setting up a forge right now. :)

Hey sorry for the absence guys, I've been sick the last couple days and in the hospital for tests yesterday. I'm feeling a lil better now, just exhausted. I'll try get a reply up today.

I've been looking in to starting forging myself. I have zero experience with it. Is this just a hobby for both of you or is it a profession? How did y'all get started?

Equipment and Powers done.
Rizzen, what is your take on lost powers this long after the books? I stayed away from them for now, holding to the "use the power for everything" idea of Asha'man I took powers that could easily be used for mundane tasks. But I thought about taking a couple of the lost/rare ones from other talents as my 4th and 5th level bonus powers known. Would you be okay with that?

Sorry. Missed the liguistics double. Its a background skill.
Yes, class skills are the same skills betw wot and pathfinder.

Tiana, no worries. Its a slow start to this adventure, which works out well to make these adjustments for everyones characters.
For lost powers, ill say that 60% of them have been found and proliferated. So if theres a lost power you have an eye on, roll a d100 and get below 60%

@lucius and tiana:
Ive been forging off and on since oct 2016. But since last minth, ive upped my pursuit of being a blacksmith. Truth be told, ive done more in the forge in the last 4 weeks than in the last 18 months prior.
my project of this week
I am attempting to cross the threshold from hobbyist to profession, but i have this issue of PTSD that makes it hard for me to concentrate. I am really rpoud that i was able to do so well with my last project, even though it failed.
I started doing this because this is my day to day therapy for my ptsd. When im in a bsd mood, i can go to my forge, heat up some metal and beat the hell out of it. On some of my worst days, i pull out the 8lb sledge and wail on tool steel for 20-30 minutes.
But on my good days, i can make hooks, nails, letter openers, simple jobs. My current goal is to replicate one of those old ironbound doors or chests.
If either of you(or anyone else) have questions about this profession/hobby, hit me up. Ill help however i can

That seax looked really good, sorry it snapped. I want to get into working with blades, myself. When you figure out what happened, you should update us.
In other news, are you part of any of the myriad facebook blacksmithing groups?

I don't have access to my WoT files at work, so I will get this updated tonight. One I know I was interested in was the Forge Metal power, but I do not remember if that was Rare or Lost.

One other thing, I was curious if you are still looking over that other set of channeling rules and if you were planning on making any changes to the way that the One Power is used.
Fiallain |
Hi all. Looks like I may be joining you, once I come up with a character concept. Is there any role currently lacking? After a quick glance, it looks like maybe an archer for ranged or maybe a third caster could be useful?
I am wondering if playing a descendant of Fia and Ryland would be feasible, or if going for something new and unconnected to the old would be better.
RIZZENMAGNUS |
to Amorial, Fia, Rhoekk, keelix: i wrote this message to Ryvin a couple months back, as she had asked about her parentage.
Unfortunately, i have to agree that yes the WOT game has sputtered out. Its too bad because you guys were on the final quest to resolve the campaign.
The idea was that you guys were going to have to physically enter TAR by using the weird metallic key from the House, and then in TAR find the Grey Man. The Grey Man is the one who ensured that the Wheel continued to spin, but a choice had to be made concerning the Wheel. The choice was "should the Wheel continue to spin, thus allowing the Weave to continue to be woven". Since a wheel can only spin smoothly with balance, then balance was the key to accessing the Grey Man.
The balance was found between two things. The Heart of the Pattern, and the Guardian of the Heart. Ryland held the artifact that enabled him to protect the Heart of the Pattern. His love for Fia enabled her to become Ta'Averen, and unlocked her destiny of being "the Heart of the Pattern". Unfortunately, Love is a positive emotion and quality, and thus didnt achieve balance, so the love had to be broken. Rhoekk, through his actions, would become the individual who destroyed the love that Fia felt towards Ryland. She would have become twisted, vindictive, and turned the the Dark One. Thus, being turned, she provided the opposite force of balance to the party represented for the Light.
When Ryland and Fia both arrived before the Grey Man, the Grey Man would make his decision, to spin or stop the Wheel. Both Ryland and Fia would have to give arguements for why the wheel should continue to spin or stop. Then, whichever arguement tasdfhe Grey man found to be most convincing, the Wheel spun or it stopped.
As for you, my dear Ryvin, you are the daughter of Lews Therin Thalamon, aka the Dragon, and Mierin Eronaile, aka Lanfear. You were born during the Age of Legends, but a fortelling was done upon your birth. It was proclaimed that should you be raised within the current age (the age of legends), the Wheel would collapse. Yet you were not foretold of death, instead of life within another Age. As such, a Statis box was created to house you, and keep you until such a time the Pattern wove you back into the Weave. The box was then housed within Tel'arin'rhoid, a double insurance upon you, your destiny, and life.
When the Dragon was reborn upon the slopes of Dragonmount, you were released back into the Weave, and delivered to your parents of this age.
