Elek Kardforgató |
hey folks, at a family reunion this weekend so getting to the lap top will be spotty. My brain has frozen up, I listed Elek as Lawful Neutral and he just agreed to breaking into a house: so I have been trying to figure out how he will justify it to himself instead of posting, so bot me as necessary. If I figure out his behavior between roasting smores I will post, OK. At the latest I will have something on Sunday, but don't wait for me!

Heh. Reminds me of a very early time I played, back in 3.5 before Pathfinder was even a thing. I was doing a more or less solo one-shot (as most of my games were back then) with my older brother, playing a LN dwarf monk. At one point in the adventure we had to break into a guy's house (or a warehouse or something) and I asked if my dwarf needed to speak with the guard first, or if he would have to sit out of that event altogether due to his leanings.
My older brother--who's the one who got me into the hobby, and did so many good things for me in those early days--explained a couple of things about alignment to me then. First, he said that no character is beholden to their alignment to the point that they must ALWAYS act within its strictures, or at least they don't have to be (and probably shouldn't be): doing that would make characters relatively one-dimensional and probably boring. Characters grow and change and do things that don't match up with their plans, even if they don't always feel great about it. That's how good characters are, dynamic, and I think even most of the famous examples of characters who are emblems of a given alignment go against it at some point. (Robin Hood ultimately bows to the righteous king; Javert lets Valjean go at the end, even though it drives him to suicide because he as a character can't reconcile his actions and beliefs).
The second was that Lawful doesn't have to mean Lawful in the alignment system. It usually just means a tendency toward tradition and legal behavior. So I don't know if it helps at all, but those are some thoughts!

Elek, another thing you might want to note is that Jonathan is actually ALSO Lawful Neutral. Jonathan subscribes to the laws of Galt and the codes of the Gray Gardeners, and according to those rules and laws what he is doing is perfectly legal as the Gardeners are (effectively) the law of the land, and this sort of thing happens all the time there at the hands of the Gardeners. They don't really believe in "due process" or anything of the sort, so Jonathan has no qualms with this sort of behavior at all. However, things that are a crime in Galt for him to do he would also be opposed to.
Just some more food for thought.

Hey guys, I'm posting this in all my active games so everyone is aware of it; I'll be traveling abroad to Iceland for about three weeks through my university starting on Thursday. I should have reasonable access to internet while I'm there since we're primarily staying in its two larger cities, but I don't know how often I'll have the time to post since I'm on a trip through school and not traveling by myself. I imagine I'll be able to post on a semi-regular basis, but I want everyone to know I probably won't be posting once a day for the next three weeks or so. Some days I'll probably post fairly regularly, and others I might not be here for a few days. I'll try to keep you guys updated on when I'll be around and when I won't, but the truth is I don't exactly know.
If I'm gone for a few days, feel free to take control of my character if we need to move on or if there's something specifically relating to me needing to post, as I can't guarantee I'd be able to answer it in a timely fashion. Anyway, I'll still be here for the next few days, and if I'm not around for a while, have fun gaming!

Aramus, The Brazen Fool |

Hey all, posting in all my games to say that as of this evening I'm going camping with family and then paintballing for several days, so I won't be able to post. I'll be back the evening of Sunday the 10th, and hopefully I'll be back to regular posting and catching up then or Monday morning. Please bot me as needed while I'm away!

I mostly wanted evidence of his being evil, if he's evil, before we confront him and question him. Jonathan was merely remarking upon the fact that the original places the guards figured he'd be, either in the barracks or in his office, were not where he was; one would think those directly under him (as I understood them to be) would be privy to his location at a time like this.

Jonathan Haykes |

So, uh... I hate to break it to you boss, but none of us have those either. Acharn had ranks in almost every Knowledge skill, but the rest of us just have a smattering that includes almost everything other than those three Knowledge skills. I could missing it, but I don't see them. If I was a 3rd level Investigator I'd be able to make them untrained, but not yet.
I don't suppose there's any chance Aramus or I could get away with a Knowledge (Local) role, or a Lore (Absalom) for him specifically? Otherwise, we're stuck following this rabbit hole until we hit the bottom, whatever's there.

Zalika Caliana |

GM, would you like us to set up some kind of lax ruling where if your character doesn't say anything, you can be assumed to go along with it? Does that help you? I guess there's this current situation where I think you might be waiting for some of us to post but from my perspective, most of the posts we might make would be something really brief such as "Yes", or "I agree", or "I follow" for really basic decisions. Maybe if we tried this, it might make things flow smoother, and hopefully we avoid situations where everybody is waiting on everyone else to post.

Aramus, The Brazen Fool |

Yeah, I'd agree with that idea. I've seen some games where it's even the two-person rule, although three is probably better since it gives more time for people to plan and dissent if they want to.

Question: You said it looked like the babau came out of a building and went into the alleyway, but we tracked it from the sewers? The first thing springing to mind is that we've just tracked the thing in the opposite direction, and it's currently milling about in the Captain's home. Am I just confused on the logistics of where this thing was, or am I right in assuming it was headed INTO the sewers from here?

The Faceless GM |

The trail leads from the warehouse to the captains house. You can't really tell what direction is coming and going because they're acid burns, not footprints in a traditional sense. There's only one trail, so it either only passed through the sewers once or it took great care to make sure there was only one trail on purpose. What this means, you have no idea.

This is going out to all the games I'm either playing in or GMing:
I'll be away at a local convention from Nov. 4th to the 6th. As such, I won't be posting on those days.

Zalika Caliana |

Just an update. We got through a lot of people today, and so the Emergency Line isn't going out tonight, but we are all on call in case something happens in the night, in which case everything goes live. Activity looks likely to be unaffected at this stage - although if I vanish in the next few days, something urgents probably come up.

A question about the Fortitude save; is this a case where I failed the Perception check so I can't roll Disable Device, or my Disable Device roll itself was too low to disarm the trap? If it's the latter, would you allow me to add Inspiration to my Disable Device check? I'm just curious, seeing as though I rolled before I knew if there were traps/what they might be. If not, I'll just roll Fortitude, I just wanted to ask.

Jonathan Haykes |

Okay. I'm still not sure if you'd let me add Inspiration to the roll or not, so I'll go ahead and roll it here?
Inspiration: 1d6 ⇒ 6
That would give me a 26, which makes it a success. Again, I understand if that's not cool... I'm just not certain on whether or not that's something you're allowing. If not, let me know and I'll go ahead and roll the Fortitude save.
