Gansu Kaichuta |

"We have nobody capable of finding traps yes?"
"I will check for traps."
Gansu gives the wardobe a thorough examination.
Perception Take 20: 20 + 2 = 22
Anyone can check for traps, just some people are better at it than others. I will also use detect magic in case there are magical traps.
After giving the wardrobe the look-over, (assuming I don't find anything scary) Gansu calls out,
"You in there... are you all right? What are you doing in there?"
I figure the fire and our conversation has spoiled stealth already, so why not?

![]() |

Brother Guiness will follow Gansu in as he does a detailed investigation of the closet. BG will have his warhammer out, carefully watching Gansu’s back.
I am traveling today, so I do not have access to my computer to be able to move my icon on the map. Please have BG follow directly behind Gansu as he moves into the room and South to the closet.

The All-Seeing Eye. |

No traps perceived. If you are moving over to the closet, please indicate your path of movement for me. Or, let your DM have some real fun and choose your path for you!!! :D

![]() |

I assume we are headed straight down the west wall, but BG is following Gansu.

Tamlara |

Tamlara moves into the room with the others, along the west wall. Looking around for anything of interest, she sees a chance to surprise anyone coming through the secret door in the south, so she tucks herself into the little corner between the west wall and the wardrobe as quietly as she can.
Tamlara stealth check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

Gansu Kaichuta |

Added a purple line for Gansu.
Is the fire on the map the burning spider corpse?

Aldhranhald |

"Now then, let us have a bit more light than the flickering embers of the arachnid corpse." Aldhranhald says and steps into the room, having cast his light cantrip on the end of his quarterstaff. He then casts his water conjuring cantrip as well, to put out the spider fire, as the acrid smell was beginning to tickle his nostrils in an unpleasant way. Turning his voice to the wardrobe, where the voice of a crying woman is heard, he speaks loudly, "You there! In the wardrobe, have you seen a lion, or perhaps a witch? What is it that has scared you so?!"

Boudacia |

"You there! In the wardrobe, have you seen a lion, or perhaps a witch? "
Boudacia, in bat form, gives Aldhranhald a stern look. You can be almost certain she did in fact bat an eyelid.

The All-Seeing Eye. |

The woman in the closet just keeps on crying ...

![]() |

BG moves forward towards the wardrobe, looking at the latching mechanism. "Gansu, did it appear to be locked or trapped?
Assuming the answer is no, Brother Guiness will glance at the others to make sure they are ready, stow his Warhammer, then open the wardrobe. "Looks like I have gotten into the habit of opening the doors. Be on your guard." Suiting actions to his words, BG holds his shield at the ready in the other hand, just in case something springs out to attack!
If it is locked or trapped, we will need Tamlara's expertise, of course...then BG will volunteer to do the opening afterwards as detailed above...

Tamlara |

But of course, dear Guiness! Whatever you need!

The All-Seeing Eye. |

As soon as Brother Guiness makes contact with the wardrobe, the whole wardrobe suddenly falls apart as two humanoid creatures come out swinging their fists at Brother Guiness!
Blue Hostile first attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Blue Hostile second attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Red Hostile first attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Red Hostile second attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
The first one bounces his fists off of Brother Guiness' shield, while the second one only manages to wave his fists around uselessly.
BG, Gansu & Tamlara all need a Reflex save. If you pass, you get to choose what square you step back to as the sudden outburst of the wardrobe & creatures forces you back a step. If you do not pass, then I will determine which square you get 'pushed/forced' into.
Brother Guiness Reflex Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Gansu Reflex Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Tamlara Reflex Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Gansu manages to avoid the sudden push back and stays right where he is Nat 20!, but Tamlara finds herself suddenly forced back a step, and Brother Guiness also finds he needs to step back.
BG, you passed, so you get to choose where you will step back to. This movement does not count towards your actions for your turn.
Aldhranhald Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Boudacia Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Brother Guiness Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Gansu Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Sama Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Tamlara Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Blue Hostile & Red Hostile
Block 3
Brother Guiness & Gansu

Boudacia |

Boudacia, still in bat form, moves into the room behind Aldhranhald and uses the slumber Hex on the "blue" humanoid.
That is a DC 16 Will Save or sleep for 2 rounds.
Stormstrider- What KS do we have to roll to figure out what these things are?

![]() |

Stormstrider, I am not sure I completely understand--can BG stand where his icon is now, or does he need to move back more? If he has to move further, he can slide to the east. Also, the initiative order blocks do not seem to match the initiative rolls....It looks to me like BG rolled high enough to go before the enemies (initiative 18)...

Aldhranhald |

"That's one of the ugliest cries I've ever seen on a woman." Aldhranhald says, still displaying confidence and humor even in the face of hideous creatures that appear out of seemingly nowhwere. He then pulls an arrow to the string of his bow and let's fly, aiming for the narrow window between Tamlara and Gansu (red).
Shortbow Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 4 = 19
Piercing Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Riiiiiiiiggggggghhhhhhhhhhhtttttt.

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Okay folks, the initiative here ... this is one of those freaky cases where when I did the preview it gave me one set of numbers for the initiatives, but then by the time I finally finished typing everything and posted it, it changed to a different set of numbers. Sorry about that. I had not caught that. I will change the Initiative block order to match the numbers shown now on Initiative.
And BG, yes, you are forced to move back by the sudden outburst of the wardrobe and creatures.
All of you notice the putrid, rotting smell and condition of these creatures.
Boudacia, and anyone who wants, Knowledge check = Religion
CURRENT INITIATIVE:
Block 1:
Boudacia (Already went), Sama, Brother Guiness & Gansu
Block 2
Blue Hostile
Block 3
Aldhranhald (Already went) & Tamlara
Block 4
Red Hostile

The All-Seeing Eye. |

The Blue humanoid takes no notice of Boudacia's Slumber hex.
Aldhranhald suddenly hears a noise above him, and looks up to see a net falling through the plaster of the ceiling!
Weighted net ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Aldhranhald just barely manages to knock it aside and avoid being hit by the weights or becoming entangled in it!

![]() |

Knocked back by the sudden onslaught, Brother Guiness steadies himself and prepares to counterattack when a net bursts through the ceiling and almost envelops Aldhranhald.
I knew there was something I didn't like about that ceiling...
Looking at (and smelling) the attackers, BG reaches for his battleaxe since they remind him of the gombies, just super-sized. Pausing for a split second, he considers if he has heard anything more specific to these creatures...
BG Knowledge/Religion: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
...and, nope. Hopefully the axe works just fine. BG draws his axe and takes a swing at the blue creature.
BG Battleaxe Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
BG Battleaxe Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Boudacia |

Stormstrider- I don't think you have rolled a save for my Hex.

![]() |

Stormstrider- I don't think you have rolled a save for my Hex.
It appears that the hex had no effect based on Stormstrider's comment above--perhaps these creatures are immune? I would also be interested to know if Aldhrenhald's arrow did any damage, though, in case they have some kind of damage reduction...

Boudacia |

Missed that BG. My bad.

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Stormstrider- I don't think you have rolled a save for my Hex.
BG is correct, they are immune to your slumber. Sorry. But not to your misfortune hex! And let's see, a potential of 1 point of damage from an arrow, how do I describe that? Did the hostile even really take notice of it if it did hurt him? What would your characters know other than they see an arrow sticking out of the thing? If it had been more serious damage I could at least maybe give some description to its reaction, but being only 1 point potential makes it difficult.

Gansu Kaichuta |

GM: Can I step into the square where the wardrobe is? If I can, I will as I will then flank with both Tamlara and BG.
Also GM: I assume divine favor has expired, yes? It has a duration of 1 minute. If it is still running add +2 to hit and damage here.
"Judging by the rancid smell, I don't think we want these fellows as friends," Gansu quips, as he swings his nodachi.
Nodachi: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 ... +2 to this if I can flank.
Nodachi damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Yes and yes. Knowledge check = Zombies, but something different about these, not your normal zombie?
At the sudden movement of Gansu, the zombie to the south turns back facing Gansu and swings both fists at him.
Blue Zombie first attack on Gansu: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Blue Zombie second attack on Gansu: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
The first swing bounces off Gansu's armor and throws the zombie off balance for his second swing causing him to miss completely.
CURRENT INITIATIVE:
Block 3
Aldhranhald (Already went due to the initiative correction/change) & Tamlara
Block 4
Red Hostile

The All-Seeing Eye. |

BG just sent me a message via facebook pointing out that I made no response to Gansu's attack. My bad! I apologize! Gansu totally hits with that 16! ... Now, which one since he did not specify who he was attacking?
Which zombie does Gansu attack? 1 = red 2 = blue: 1d2 ⇒ 2 Blue
Gansu swings his sword at the zombie between him and the dwarf and nearly cleaves its torso in two, but somehow the zombie still stands!

Tamlara |

Unhappily jostled from her hidey-hole, Tamlara takes a quick look around.
Tamlara Perception check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Seeing nothing special, other than the zombie creatures attacking Brother Guiness and Gansu, she uses Gansu's distraction to take a swipe at the nasty nearest to her.
Tamlara Melee attack: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 2 = 23 red zombie
Tamlara Dagger damage + sneak attack: 1d4 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (1) = 6
Edit: Wait, that's a critical threat! Rolling again!
Tamlara Melee attack: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 + 2 = 20
Tamlara Dagger crit damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Tamlara manages to take cut out quite a chunk of the zombie's chest, but it is still standing. It focuses its attention on the little redheaded girl that just stabbed him and swings its fists at her!
Red First attack on Tamlara: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Red Second attack on Tamlara: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
And one of its fists hits her square in the face!
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 Damage!

Block 1:
Boudacia, Sama, Brother Guiness & Gansu
Block 2
Blue Hostile
Block 3
Aldhranhald & Tamlara
Block 4
Red Hostile

Boudacia |

Boudacia employs the Misfortune Hex on the "blue" enemy.
Misfortune DC 16 Will Save. The witch can cause a creature within 30 feet to suffer grave misfortune for 1 round. Anytime the creature makes an ability check, attack roll, saving throw, or skill check, it must roll twice and take the worse result.

![]() |

"Nice work Gansu", remarks Brother Guiness, admiring Gansu's tactical acumen,"Now I must capitalize."
BG swings at the blue zombie with the advantage of flanking.
BG Battleaxe Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 2 = 17
BG Battleaxe Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

![]() |

If that attack destroys the zombine, BG will move to the north-west to box in the remaining enemy.

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Sama once again attempts to blast one of the corpses!
Which one? Doesn't really matter this time since you missed anyways, but ... please try to remember in the future.
Blue's Will save vrs the hex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
And the zombie to the south is feeling very unlucky.
And then he sees dwarf's axe swinging at him and he knows at least his bad luck is over with ... permanently ... unless someone raises him again into unlife. Brother Guiness's axe cuts his head clean off!
I moved you BG!

Gansu Kaichuta |

"Do these things stink more when they are dead? Or when they are... walking?"
Gansu swings again, trying to finish off the last zombie.
nodachi +2 flank vs. Red: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 2 = 14 ... maybe...
nodachi damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Gansu's sword slices the zombie completely in two!
Combat over. Please don't forget to indicate movement on the map or I'll have fun choosing it for you!

Aldhranhald |

"The amount of walking dead in this place is beyond unsettling. There has to be some source of great necromantic power somewhere in the bowels of this ancient structure." Aldhranhald says wafting the stench of reanimated corpses away from his face in exaggerated strokes. "Ugh! It smells like carrots and throw-up."

Gansu Kaichuta |

"Perhaps it is connected to the spire itself? When I opened my magical senses near the spire it was clear it had some kind of energy that I did not understand."
Gansu begins to look over the remains and the wardrobe for anything of interest.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Gansu searches for things mainly to remind the perceptive people to do the same, since he is blinder than Wayne, apparently.

![]() |

”If I recall correctly, there was a job posted in Fort Inevitable about some strange new undead that a priestess in town was worried about. There was a rumor that a halfling farmer had fought off a few skeletons and one had a strange marking on the skull. And didn’t we fight a skeleton that had a crown symbol etched into its skull? These may all be related. If so, we could be getting close to the source of their power—we should be cautious.”
BG takes a look at the remains of the wardrobe as well as the ceiling where the net was concealed...
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Among the remains of the wardrobe, you do find 107 Gp!
You cannot notice anything unusual about the rest of the ceiling, though through the hole that was left you can see there is some space above the ceiling that all of you clearly see upon first looking up. Is this whole ceiling a false drop ceiling designed to hide the real ceiling above it from view? Or what is the situation here? Does this merit further investigation? Or is it just a rabbit trail to lead you astray and make you waste time? :D
You also notice that, just like all the previous undead creatures you have fought (Sorry, the module does not say this on each monster entry and so I frequently forget about it. Until further notice, any undead you fight, will have small green crystals embedded in their bodies and the symbol of a Skull & Crown somewhere on their body or clothing, and tattered blue robes that all seem to match.) these also wore tattered blue robes, had a symbol of Skull & Crown etched on their foreheads, and had tiny green crystals embedded in their bodies. If you try to collect any of the green crystals they just crumble into fine powder at the slightest touch.

Tamlara |

"You do recall correctly, Brother, and our original group took that job before we headed in here. We haven't made much progress, though. . . Ugh! I think that zombie left some of itself on my face when it hit me!"
After scrubbing at her face, Tamlara bends down to take a look at one of the zombies.
"I wonder. . ."
If we try to remove one of the green stones from the zombies, it crumbles to dust, okay. What if we just take a whole zombie arm, or something??

Boudacia |

You cannot notice anything unusual about the rest of the ceiling, though through the hole that was left you can see there is some space above the ceiling that all of you clearly see upon first looking up. Is this whole ceiling a false drop ceiling designed to hide the real ceiling above it from view? Or what is the situation here? Does this merit further investigation? Or is it just a rabbit trail to lead you astray and make you waste time?
Boudacia flies up to hole in the ceiling to have a closer look, remaining airborne for the present.
I am not sure where the hole is so have not moved my ikon. I will establish the presence of rabbit trails or holes, along with red herrings and wild geese to chase. Perhaps I will find the whole enchilada, the full monty and the whole hog up there? One way to find out.

Gansu Kaichuta |

When he sees the green stones crumble to dust, he thinks for a moment.
"Perhaps it would be wiser to destroy all of these little crystals. If they are being used to create more powerful undead, then they are better off destroyed."
Unless anyone objects, Gansu begins pulling out the crystals and lets them crumble to dust.

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Tamlara comes up with a smart plan as to how to 'collect' some of the tiny green crystals and is working on taking off one of the arms, when Gansu makes his statement about destroying all the crystals and he turns towards the body that Tamlara was cutting off an arm from and he looks at her with a questioning look in his eyes.
Up to you all how you want to handle this.
In the meanwhile Boudacia flies up into the hole in the ceiling and she can easily see there are 3 more of those weighted nets up here in the ceiling rigged to some sort of wires & springs or something ...
Smart idea Boudacia! I put 3 red X's on the map to mark the locations. And the hole in the ceiling is directly over Aldy's head, so I moved your icon there.

Boudacia |

Boudacia flies down from near the ceiling and resumes human form. Boudacia then reports "There are three weighted nets in the ceiling rigged to some sort of wires and springs or something, there, there and there. We can likely just keep out from under them."
Stormstrider- I take it there was nothing else visible up there? And is there room for a person, maybe Tamlara to fit up there to disable the net traps?

![]() |

”Good work on finding those hidden traps, Boudacia. They must have been cleverly hidden indeed to escape our scrutiny when we entered the room.”
Turning to Aldhranhald, BG says,”So, what is our next move, master cartographer—back to the spider pit to go through the unexplored southern door, or have your eagle eyes discerned another possibility?”
I don’t think Aldy has mentioned the secret door yet...

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Correct Boudacia. Nothing else to see. There is room for a medium creature to be semi squeezed, but nothing for them to stand on on or support their weight. Plaster ceiling panels, VERY fragile.

Gansu Kaichuta |

"All other things being equal, I prefer to enter secret chambers. If the chamber is worth hiding, there is likely something of importance there."

Boudacia |

"Sounds good to me. We should remember the nets in the roof when we come back into this room."

![]() |

"Ah, another secret door--over there you say? This place has more than its share, I would surmise. Alright, let's see what is behind it. Let me know when you are done checking it for traps and such."
BG goes over to the secret door and waits for the perceptive types to check it for traps (and listen at the door if they like), then opens the door once everyone is in place. He will also take a look at the door while he is waiting to see if he sees anything interesting...
BG Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
