Sama manages to 'tickle' the unlucky Light Blue Skelly.
But she finally hit!!! She did damage! yay!
That same Skeleton then swings his scimitar at Brother Guiness.
Light Blue Attack: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
And misses completely!
In the meantime three of the other skeletons manage to get their coffins open and stand up inside the coffins. Green, Blue, & Pink Skellies.

That, however, was!
Sama fires again at the same skeleton!
Ranged touch attack, disrupt undead, into melee: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 5 - 4 = 2

Tamlara |

Tamlara waits for the skeletons to conveniently group together in front of Gansu and Brother Guiness.
Held action to lob the oil into a conveniently grouped bunch of skeletons. . .
Tamlara ranged attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 1 = 14 On square to be determined later, by you or myself, if that works Stormy? If necessary.

No, it is not. As someone who has suffered from misplaced accusations of pedantry I have had to become reasonably knowledgeable on the subject. When discussing if a statement is pedantic, an observation that the statement in question does not fall within the definition of pedantry is not a minor detail. It goes directly to the heart of the matter.

Sama Kattan |

Whether or not something is 'pedantic' when someone uses that term in a humorously self-deprecating fashion is, however, a trivial or minor concern in the scheme of an unfolding game that is not based on the usage of flavor commentary!
Sama looks disappointed as her positive energy beam goes awry, and crooks her finger to look at it disapprovingly. "C'mon, finger, you can do better than that," she scolds.

The next skeleton in line Blue tries to shrug off whatever Boudacia is doing to him. Will save DC 16 right?
Blue Will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
But he has no luck doing so.

The All-Seeing Eye. |

The skeleton in front of Brother Guiness drops his broken scimitar and instead swings both fists at the dwarf.
Light Blue's 1st attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Light Blue's 2nd attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
And only succeeds at looking silly flailing his fists around.
The rest of the skeletons Orange, Purple, Red, & Yellow Skelly all finish opening their coffins and standing up.

Gansu, & Brother Guiness

Gansu Kaichuta |

Gansu swings at the skeleton, but it is a lot quicker than it looks, and he misses.
nodachi: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
"Blast! All right, Brother, your turn!"
Gansu advances to within reach of the next skeleton, and is now on the far side of the first skeleton from Brother Guiness.
Moving forward 10'. This will provoke an AoO from the light blue skeleton. If it hits me for 5 or more I will lay on hands as a swift action:
healer's way: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

![]() |

Brother Guiness looks over at Gansu with concern as the tall warrior breaks out of the planned defensive line. I hope he knows what he is doing. I suppose not everyone plants themselves in a defensive position like I was trained to do. I do see his tactical plan, though, surrounding this skeleton to attack from both sides...This could work.
BG swings at the light blue skeleton with his trusty Warhammer and the advantage of flanking.
BG Warhammer Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 2 = 26
BG Warhammer Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Wow! Could be a crit!
BG Warhammer Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 2 = 15
BG Warhammer Critical Damage: 2d8 + 10 + 9 ⇒ (1, 3) + 10 + 9 = 23 Total damage if a crit
BG brandishes his Warhammer after the (potentially) massive hit, preparing himself for the skeleton counterattack...

The All-Seeing Eye. |

As Gansu (Bravely? or Foolishly?) walks on past the first skeleton it takes a swing at him.
Light Blue attack: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (11) - 3 = 8
But it doesn't even com close to touching him.
Then the dwarf gives a mighty swing of his warhammer and smashes the skeleton to dust!
The first damage of 9 bludgeoning was 3 more than needed to kill it, then add the 14 more on top of that! Hahahaha! :D

The All-Seeing Eye. |

I'll go ahead and post the 3 skelly's from block 2 to save time.
Another of the skeletons Green gets down off his coffin and steps over to the dwarf and swings his scimitar at him.
Green attack: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (19) + 0 = 19
So close! To crit is the only way these guys could possibly hit the dwarf though!
Another skeleton Blue takes a swing at the warrior that just walked up to him.
Blue attack on Gansu: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8
And strikes the wall instead.
A third skeleton Pink gets down and shuffles all the way over to stand in Gansu's way, but does not attack.
Full move plus 5 more ft of 2nd move to get there!
CURRENT INITIATIVE: - Allowing for Aldy's turn before this of course!
Block 3
Boudacia, Sama, & Tamlara
Block 4
Orange Skelly, Purple Skelly, Red Skelly,
Block 5
Gansu, & Brother Guiness

Aldhranhald |

Looks like, once again, the best Aldy has to offer is nothing at all. :D Just count me as delaying unless things turn dour, and or something is directly attacking Aldy.
Watching the skeletons continue to flail about to no avail, Aldhranhald stands watch the group's back to make sure no unseen threats materalize behind them. He holds his quarterstaff in both hands ready to swing at anything that gets close.

Tamlara |

"Aaghh! They're still too spread out! I guess I'll just keep waiting. . ."

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Thanks to whoever put the 'dead' marker on the /light blue skelly. I realize I forgot to.

Boudacia |

Boudacia, believing she has hit on the correct strategy, employs the Misfortune Hex on the green skeleton.

![]() |

Thanks to whoever put the 'dead' marker on the /light blue skelly. I realize I forgot to.
And here I thought you just left it for me since BG killed it...

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Green's will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
This Skelly green suddenly feels enveloped in a wave of despair - if he had feelings that is. ;)
Then the next skeleton Orange moves up and goes in between the coffins so he can reach the dwarf and he swings his scimitar at him.
Orange attack: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20
And somehow he manages to find an opening in the armor and get his scimitar through!
Confirm crit?: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1 That seems balanced. Oddly enough.
Orange's damage to the dwarf: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Then another skelly Purple steps down off hi coffin and also swings his scimitar at the dwarf.
Purple attack: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8
And he strikes the coffin instead.
Next skelly Red gets off his coffin and shuffles his way all the way over to Gansu and swings his scimitar at the warrior.
Red attack: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1
Confirm Crit fail?: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12
And instead he accidentally hits:
1d3 Pink, blue or green?: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Green (who is feeling really unlucky now!)
Red's damage to green: 1d6 ⇒ 6
And he actually manages to get some damage through! DR 5/Bludgeon, so 1 HP got through!
The last skelly in line Yellow, can't manage to reach anyone, but he does move up behind the others to be closer to Gansu.
CURRENT INITIATIVE:

Gansu Kaichuta |

The first damage of 9 bludgeoning was 3 more than needed to kill it, then add the 14 more on top of that! Hahahaha! :D
When the skeleton goes down, does it make THIS SOUND? :)
Gansu looks around at all the skeletons closing in. He swings at the skeleton to the south.
nodachi vs. RED: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
nodachi damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Assuming red is the same as the others I'm guessing that will take him down. If that is the case Gansu will take a 5' step south (which gives a possible flank to Guiness if he can also move). It also opens up the line of fire so that Pink has no cover from ranged attacks from Sama (though is still in melee).
I updated the map assuming red is dead.
"It's easier when they come to you! Looks like we're tied, Brother Guiness! What do you say... a gold piece per skeleton?"

![]() |

"More like a pint per skeleton!", says Brother Guiness, losing his focus for a moment thinking about the treasured brew and letting a wild strike from a skeleton get through. I suppose one was bound to hit eventually...
Surveying the tactical situation, BG also remarks, "Gansu, if you can take a step back or two, the skeletons may bunch up enough for the others to use their fire attacks.
The original plan was to stay in place so Boudacia could use her spell and the others could be involved in the battle a bit more. Gansu, if you would consider moving to the left instead of down, this may work better, and you would avoid the AOO's from moving through threatened squares (can't take a 5 foot step into difficult terrain).
In any case, BG keeps swinging, this time at the purple skeleton to the south of him.
BG Warhammer Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
BG Warhammer Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

The All-Seeing Eye. |

... and you would avoid the AOO's from moving through threatened squares (can't take a 5 foot step into difficult terrain).
I be confused? Where are you getting the difficult terrain from? Unless your saying the body of the skeleton makes it difficult? Cause there's enough room between the coffins to walk between them.I know whoever drew the map did not place those coffins in proper squares, so I'm saying there is enough space. *** I gotta get ready for work now, so I'll post for my next round of skellies sometime this evening.

![]() |

The coffins will block movement to some degree. They can be climbed over using 1/2 speed per square of coffin (or any part thereof). I'll rule on other issues as/if they come up as far as climbing over the coffins.
BG, sorry my friend, patience is required here. Especially on the weekend it seems. Aldy practically never is here on the weekends, Tamlara often does not make it on Saturdays, and Sama ... ? I haven't figured out her pattern yet. Like most women, she's doing a good job of keeping me confused! ;)
My apologies. From the above post, I interpreted that any square that had a coffin in any part of it would be difficult terrain. Thanks for clarifying.

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Ah! I can see why the confusion! My bad. I meant only if you are trying to climb on or over the coffin itself. Sorry I wasn't clear.
Aldhranhald keeps his rear vigil going.
The first skelly in order Green drops his scimitar in frustration and anger taking two full swings at the rotund dwarf before him. I am going to roll 4 attacks. He gets two, but due to the misfortune hex he has to roll twice each time and take the worst.
Green attack 1.1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Green attack 1.2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Green attack 2.1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Green attack 2.2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Well, any of those misses BG's 23 AC anyways. But that second attack, the hex would have been a savior for anyone else!
The next skelly Blue also drops his scimitar, taking two full swings at the human-looking warrior.
Blue attack 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Blue attack 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
He was distracted by the sight of two other skellys dead on the ground.
Then the other skelly Pink also drops the scimitar and reverts to his natural attack form. He will get the flank bonus for flanking with Green.
Pink attack 1: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 + 2 = 15
Pink attack 2: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 + 2 = 14
He at least comes close to striking Gansu, but still does not connect.

Gansu Kaichuta |

Boudacia moves forward next to Gansu, anouces in dread tones "Cleansing fire abominations!"and casts burning hands on the three skeletons attacking Gansu.
[dice=damage, Burning Hands]2d4
I'm not sure if it's too late or not, but Boudacia:
You can actually get all three skeletons with burning hands from one square back, and you won't hit me either, if you use the "straight" AoE instead of the "diagonal" one.
And if you stay back you also don't have to make a concentration check to cast defensively to avoid provoking an AoO. I'm not sure if you planned to do that or if you were just going to hope they didn't hit with the AoO.

Boudacia |

Thanks Gansu, you are quite right. If our GM will allow me to do as you suggested I certainly will. If not, well I will have to endure a AoO I blundered into. Be nice please Mr GM sir.

Tamlara |

Tamlara has been waiting for a chance to throw her pint of oil, so she will do that now.
Held action, previous attack roll of 14 for the square the pink skeleton is standing in. A -4, if necessary, has not been applied, but that would still leave a 10.
"Burn, you bags of bones!"

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Boudacia, If you would have looked at the map you would have seen that as of last night I had already moved your icon back 1 space and placed the template for the spell on there accordingly. That being said, Burning Hands does allow a reflex for half which you did not mention your DC in your post. That is the second time in just this battle alone that you have not included your save DC in your post. Please be sure to always include type of save AND the DC. Also, further down the road, I'll want you to include if SR applies or not.
Blue's Reflex save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Pink's Reflex save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Yellow's Reflex save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Two of the skellies Blue & Pink manage to dodge out of the way avoiding most of the damage, but the one behind them Yellow didn't see it coming in time.
1 Hp damage to each Blue and Pink, full 3 to Yellow
Now, on to the oil! Technically since Burning Hands is instantaneous, the oil should be thrown first, so that it is already there to be ignited by the fire. Tamlara was clear in her intent to hold that action until they were bunched up though and in this media with lack of communication, I am going to be super nice AGAIN and say that she threw it first as her held action, before Boudacia's fire. It hits. Sometimes I am way too nice as a DM!
Burning oil damage for Pink: 1d6 ⇒ 5
And 1 point splashed oil catching fire for each Blue and Yellow.

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Sama fires off another ray and she once again manages to strike one of the skellies!
3 damage to Green
One of the skellies by Brother Guiness Orange will swing both his fists at him.
Orange attack 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Orange attack 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Totally missing. The skelly next to him Purple will also take two swings at the dwarf.
Purple attack 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Purple attack 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
He got distracted by the failed swipes of the other and misses even worse.
The skelly all the way in the back Yellow, frustrated that he can't reach a target, finally moves around the cluster so he can swing his scimitar at the human-looking fighter.
Yellow attack 1: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
In his excitement he almost drops his scimitar. Any bets that next round he will drop it intentionally? ;)

Never mind on that request to remind to do the XP. I just went ahead and calculated it all including this battle. The Experience Chart has been updated. no one leveled yet.

Brother Guiness swings at the purple skeleton to the south.
BG Warhammer Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
BG Warhammer Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Snarling in frustration, BG holds position. So much for setting up a flank...

Gansu Kaichuta |

Gansu turns and faces the new threat. Trying to come at me from all sides! I'd better make a hole.
Gansu swings!
Nodachi (vs. yellow): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Nodachi crit?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
damage: 2d10 + 12 ⇒ (8, 2) + 12 = 22
Gansu's blade hits the skeleton's spine, and bones go flying!
"That's another one for me! My father's blade is alive in my hands!"

The All-Seeing Eye. |

For a split instant before the skeleton gets sliced up into fine dust, he thinks it may have been a mistake to move to this position. ;) - He only had 4 HP left, you did an extra 13 points above what was needed which was enough to kill him again! :) - Block 4 of the initiative has nearly been eliminated!
Aldhranhald continues keeping up the rearguard. Correct?
The next skelly Green will swing both his fists at the dwarf again.
Green attack 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Green attack 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
He then holds both hands up in front of his face looking at them and back at the dwarf and back at his hands, then he just shrugs. NOT REALLY! Just having some narrative fun! ;)
Then a skelly near Gansu Blue will swing both his fists at Gansu.
Blue attack 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Blue attack 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
And on of his fists slips past Gansu's defenses! Blue's damage to Gansu: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Then the skelly next to that one Pink, encouraged by his companions success, will also take 2 swings at the human-looking warrior.
Pink attack 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Pink attack 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
But he does not get to experience any of that success.

"Boudacia, I don't know how much fire you still have, but I have two flasks of oil left. We can try that again if we want to. . ."
Tamlara pulls out another flask of oil and stands ready to throw it right before Boudacia's next fiery attack.

Boudacia |

"Good idea Tamlara but I am out of fire magic for today. And I can't put these damn things to sleep"replies Boudacia, sounding just slightly frustrated, as she employs the misfortune hex on the "light purple" skeleton, the one in the second square directly in front of her.
Misfortune Hex Anytime the creature makes an ability check, attack roll, saving throw, or skill check, it must roll twice and take the worse result for 1 round. DC 16 Will Save negates.

Gansu Kaichuta |

Gansu is at 18 HP.
Oil on the ground burns for 2 rounds, so if you throw more it might catch.

Aldhranhald |

Aldhranhald continues keeping up the rearguard. Correct? Yes, correct. :D

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Pink's Will save vrs Boudacia's hex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Fail.
Tamlara, since the oil burns still for this round, you could throw that oil onto the same square (pink's) if you want. Again, 1 splash damage to ALL adjacent squares, so Gansu would get 1 hp also. I forgot to include that before.

Tamlara |

Tamlara, since the oil burns still for this round, you could throw that oil onto the same square (pink's) if you want. Again, 1 splash damage to ALL adjacent squares, so Gansu would get 1 hp also. I forgot to include that before.
Except Gansu didn't get hit with the fire from Burning Hands, so no burn for him.
Seeing the fire still burning on the skeletons, Tamlara will throw another pint of oil under the skeletons feet again.
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 the square with the pink skeleton

The All-Seeing Eye. |

Except Gansu didn't get hit with the fire from Burning Hands, so no burn for him.
Thank-you for pointing that out. Correct.
The fire soars up around the skelly Pink and he takes 2d6 fire damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6 and crumbles to the ground! Dead.
The skelly next to him Blue takes splashing fire damage from the the two pints of oil that have splashed on him. 2 Hp fire damage.
According to my records Orange & Purple have taken no damage yet. Any disagreements?
Two of the skellies next to the dwarf attack him. Orange & Purple
Orange Attack 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Orange Attack 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
The first skelly misses him completely.
Purple Attack 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Purple Attack 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
The second one however manages to get in a strike!

"Brother, you're not looking too good! Hang on."
Gansu, seeing that the skeleton to the north has gone down in flames, takes a step to the south, and swings at the skeleton between he and Brother Guiness.
Nodachi vs. Green +2 flank: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 2 = 10
But the skeleton is more nimble than it looks, and Gansu misses.
"Blast! Well, I guess this one's yours, Guiness!"
BG: you are now flanking against Green.
I am still within melee reach of blue but Tamlara should have a clear shot if she wants to do anything. Once blue is dead there will be a safe path along the top that people can enter through.

![]() |

Brother Guiness grunts as another skeleton finds a chink in his armor.
"Don't worry, Gansu, we dwarves are a hardy breed", but the toll the repeated attacks have taken on him is obvious.
BG pivots to attack the green skeleton, whom Gansu so thoughtfully flanked for him, swinging his hammer in a mighty blow...
BG Warhammer Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 2 = 25 flank
BG Warhammer Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
