Seeing Kenri's nervousness, Thorleif pats him on the back as he says "Easy there, lad. A servant clutching a weapon is kind of a dead giveaway for a spy. Remember, the best way to blend in is to act like you were always supposed to be here in the first place."

Ducking his head, Kenri whispers..
" Yeah. I guess... I- I'm just much more comfortable in ...more.. humble , surroundings..."
Relaxing his grip, he straightens a little and tries to look more casual...

"Get a tray from the buffet and get some food to the ballroom. We are short on crab-pies!" the servant says.
If you want to do what the servant says it takes 5 minutes to take the pies to the ballroom and come back. If you don't want to do that please find an excuse and do a bluff check :)

"Sorry pal, but we're on special orders from the ambassador. Apparently he's doing a quick business deal with some group of big-wigs in a private room and he wants us to make sure that they're 'well attended' . We'll be back as quick as we can."

Yes urgent business in the Parlor. We can't delay unless you want us to say that you held us up. What was your name again? The Chelish woman says in a firm tone backing up Thorleif.

"Exactly, we are lucky. You guys are standing around and doing nothing. We are doing alle the work." the servant says and continues on through the door mumbling something about lazy bastards.

The furniture in this luxurious sittin room is covered by drop-cloths, and buckets of paint sit against walls where erotic murals are in the process of being replaced by a neutral institutional taupe. An enormously tall gilt frame leans against the wall. A door to the east leads to a hallway, while to the southwest a door is propped open by a bucket and displays the half-dissolved inscription "Where Love Comes to Die."

As Thorleif looks around the room, he says "I think we're getting close. I met the Paracountess once before (First Steps) and this seems like her taste in decor. Looks like they're not expecting her back, though. Let's look around and see if we can't figure out why."

Thorleif reveals a crumpled and roughly folded canvas s with a full-length artistic rendition of Zarta in scanty red apparel, along with several other pieces of art apparently considered too lascivious to remain. The open door leads to Zarta's bedchamber. The bucket holding open the door i s full of a mixture of turpentine and varnish.

Kenri moves into the next room. This extravagant bedchamber is dominated by a massive four-poster bed that takes up half the room. Red-varnished wardrobes and vanities complement the black silk sheets on the bed, which appears to be in the process of being dismantled. The walls of the room have been stripped of portraits that once hung there. faint outlines of art pieces being all that remain. The exception to this is in the eastern wall, which is occupied by an elaborate woodcutting depicting but a single nymph in a seductive pose, garbed in nothing but a necklace bearing an amulet shaped like the Asmodean star.

![]() |

Unless something disrupts us, Kenri will take 20 on searching the woodcutting, for a total of 20.
Blushing a deep red, Kenri moves over and examines the woodcutting of the nymph and necklace

I'm going to assume they share that information with the group?
He pulls out the keyring they found earlier. "There's a similarly-shaped key on here. Could that be where it goes?" He tries putting the Asmodean key into the keyhole.

![]() |

Yes Kenri would share. He doesn't have a key or a skill for opening locks. XD
Stepping back Kenri motions Calchas forward.
Frowning in thought, he then draws his cold iron shortsword.

The key opens a secret door, but the secret door has two guards: Imps. They attack immediately.

Cold Iron or silver? Are Imps devils or demons. crap I don't remember.

It is a Wizard Archetype, explained here Infernal Binder. I was merely trying a diplomacy check to improve their attitude. Unless of course they are summoned in which case I would like to assume control.

![]() |

Sorry again for the delay, but I finally got home two hours ago so everything should be running normal again.
The imps are summoned by a spell which is triggered when the door is opened. Harlynne can attempt to take over control. DC 14 if I'm not mistaken, Lesser Planar Ally is a cleric 4 spell.

Herlynne tries to take over control over the summoned imps, but is not successfull. Kenri prepares to attack the devils once they are in reach.
The imp with the red sting approaches Kenri and tries to poison him with it's sting. In return Kenri tries to hit the imp but it's too tiny and dodges easily. The imp with the blue tongue gets closer to Harlynne and also tries to use it's sting on her.

He draws his long, curved sword. Though its use would seem impractical against such tiny creatures, the long blade is quicker than it looks. He slashes forward at the closer of the two, hoping not to hit Kenri in the process.
