Round 3 - Tavik

The priest is about to send a wave of negative energy to heal his ghasts when he hears the snap of the elemental breaking one in half.

He listens and decides the ghasts will not hold off the attackers long. He goes cautiously to the curtained window and chants.

Out in the courtyard the slain bandits begin to stir.

Janna, suddenly hearing the chanting, tries to identify what it is.

Suddenly she remembers that stupid party she was invited to in her freshman year... that is the same stupid chant.

She steps out to find the source of the chanting in the window.

If she can see the priest at the window... looks like a pain front moving in from the south

As the fell priest makes his re-appearance at the window, the doughty gnome see's his chance and propels both curses and a well aimed bolt at his foe;

"Black hearted bounder! Scurrilous scoundrel! Ye'll not raise more rotten cannon fodder, not on my watch by Jingo!"

Round 4

Slipping his left arm through his shield as he goes, Damien pushes into the smoke filled room, sparing a a quick but grim glance at the stirring bandit corpses across the courtyard.

Sliding past Leo, Damien follows the sounds of fighting through the smoke to the remaining ghast. Unfortunately the swirling smoke fouls his thrust and his weapons catches only air.

S~!%! Janna, Sergeant, keep an eye on those rotters outside! Someone please bring this scabby prick down! No less than two up the ladder when it falls. No one gets caught up there alone. We've enough graves to dig after all this!"

Tavik seizes and convulses from Janna's magic. Once again Vhillish's well placed shot teaches him to stay away from windows. He teeters, but catches himself on the window pane. A hand goes to his side, reaching for a war horn carved from a rams horn.

"If I die today, so shall you," he pronounces.

Round 4 - Ghast

The last ghoul lays in to Damien with tooth and nail.

Eyes narrowed, Kevezyat attempts to discern the remaining ghast , spying it through a swirl in the smoke, her motion economical, she keeps the sweep of her sword to a minimum, concerned about her companions sharing this smokey roome with her....

The ghast sees Samduc coming but still can't avoid his magic dagger completely.

Kevezyat's sword nearly finishes the job but the ghast is moving quickly enough to avoid fatal wounds.

Round 4 - Tavik

The evil priest leans out of the window of the steeple, and to Vhillish and Janna's surprise, he leaps out and floats slowly to the ground, a soft glow emanating from a ring on his finger. As he drifts to the ground he blows into his rams horn, the keen of the well-known orcish call to arms filling the air.

Tavik is wearing a ring of feather fall

When the priest lands in the courtyard, the stupified looking ogre on the distant watchtower springs into action, winding up and hurling the block of granite it has been holding with all of it's might.

Confirm: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 5 - 2 = 21

The block sails across the courtyard and lands squarely on Tavik, squashing the evil priest flat.

In a flash of black light, the evil priests shattered body disappears from under the block.

Momentarily, an answering trumpet call resounds from inside the donjon walls.

Damien's head snaps round at the sound of Tavik's horn just in time to make out the ogre's throw through the window, "Get down!"

As the crunch of the stone block's landing also cuts short the horn, Damien pauses puzzled but has little time to consider as the answering horn sounds through the smoke.

"Everyone inside now! Janna, Deputy, what the hell happened out there? Did the damned ogre just do our work for us?"

While waiting for answers, Damien leans over Kevezyat's smoky form to brush the hanging form of Lannet, imparting a breath of life back to the unfortunate thief, "No time for you to go dying on us you bloody fool."

Hearing his commanding officer's request, Vhillish makes for where the large rock that crushed the fell priest sits.

"Report in a jiffy sah! Need to do a spot of reconnoitering whot!"

The gnome shifts to the spot and crouches beside the block;

Before casting a beady eye on where Tavik's crushed corpse should lie:

More startled than injured, Damien pushes off the body of the now fully dead ghast, muttering, "Didn't think the damned thing had any fight left...bloody rotters..."

He calls to the deputy, "Make it quick! We've got more company coming!"

I'll extrapolate the several cultists and better than a dozen orcs at minimum mentioned earlier.

Damien scowls, "Too many. Time to pull back. I know, I know, but we need to come back when they aren't all riled up. We should look for a way out upstairs."

"Leo, any idea how long Jerrid and Lannet are going to be stuck like that? This'll be a lot faster if we don't need to carry them."

How far is it from the chapel roof to the top of the wall DMG?

Kevezyat looks out the door of the desecrated temple at the rising threat in the courtyard, alert to Damien's question to Leo.

Thinking she raises her own, "Leo, are you able to reconsecrate this temple to Thyr? That would surely weaken the power of the undead to harm us."


The chapel has a steeple that gets quite narrow and pointy up top but overall the steeple is 36' tall while the curtain wall is 24' tall I believe. From the window Tavik leapt out of one could easily toss a grappling hook over the curtain wall.

Leo:
You have the authority to reconsecrate the temple as a priest of Thyr, but you would need to be able to cast bless and consecrate to remove the effect of the candle.

Janna grabs Damiens's arm, wait a sec, That ogre, he purposely targeted the priest, I noticed him to be taking orders from someone else on that roof. something that we may want to check out.

Janna has a little bit of concern in her eyes, like she has a thought of who it is but dares not say.

Damien nods when he catches Janna's look, "Aye, it's a good wager. But we've climbed the outside of that tower before, we can do it again. First we need to get our asses out of the fire!"

Kevezyat frown out at the courtyard, the figures of the recently re-risen slowly shuffling about, the ringing of the horn still in her ears.

Turning to Damien, the former soldier can see the frustration writ on her face, "You talk sense, Damien. My instinct is to attack and rid the earth of the filth both above and below, but taking the high ground is the most tactically sound plan. Plus, I would know who now controls that ogre."

Sam jumps and scrambles up Lannet to cut him free. He checks the Halfling for signs of mistreatment.

Ironically he says: "Halflings can get into so much trouble without a strong moral compass."

He looks around. "Stopping the desecration of a temple is priority one."

The sarcasm drips from Damien's tongue as he turns to Sam, "I'm afraid I have to give staying alive priority there, pipsqueak. But very well, what does your "strong moral compass" suggest we do with the precious moments before the cultists come pouring out of the donjon?"

With a fragile voice Leoven intervenes

The desecration of the temple hurt my soul, but the priority is to stop the cultist from being a threat for the good folk of the area


The visibility in the Chapel improves with Janna's spell, an everyone can see how bad off Lannet is. At first one would think he is surely dead, but his chest is gently rising and falling... a little life is left.

Jerrid and Lannet will be paralyzed for a few more rounds. The orcs will arrive before they can move on their own.

Damien rolls his eyes, frustration in his tone, "Oh, I'm sure it would be extremely helpful. So you know how to reconsecrate it in the next 20-30 heartbeats? How about you Leo? Kev? No? Then were leaving..."

Tossing Jerrid's immobile form over his shoulder, Damien makes for the hatch to the second level.


Up in the steeple Damien sees the window from which Tavik had leaped to the courtyard where he got a rude surprise from the ogre. Outside the window Damien sees orcs spilling out of the donjon, but he also sees a short span to the crumbled outer wall of the keep... an easy toss of a grappling hook away.

You might have missed it Deputy, but Tavik's body disappeared shortly after being so unceremoniously squished.

Damien shouts down, "Kev, throw up that grappling hook. Everyone up! Orcs are already on the horizon! Move people, move!"

So is the gap small enough we can jump to the wall, anchor the rope and climb down the outside, or do we need to use the rope to reach the top of the wall in the first place.

No I knew that - figured it was in character to investigate the scene of the crime... but nothing brewing from DMG as yet, so don't want to move the Deputy off the scent just yet ;)

Kevezyat looks at Samduc directly, as always questioning the sincerity of his faith...With a shake of her head she says to the 'boy', "If we fall to the orcs, no consecration will ever take place."

She grabs Lannet and thrusts him up to Damien's waiting hands, then hurries the others up as well, keeping an eye on the orcs.

She then tosses up the grappling hook and stands guard while the other climb up the ladder....

Pretty much this. The crumbled outer wall is a bit higher than the windows out of the steeple, so you toss the grappling hook up and it's an easy climb from there, everyone can take 10 and be out before the orcs catch you.
